Nous voulions terminer notre voyage de 2 mois 1/2 en Asie du sud est par un séjour à Koh Chang et nous avons été tellement déçu que nous en sommes repartis le lendemain de notre arrivée. l’île est belle, mais les plages sont nulles, enfin celle ou nous étions : bailan beach, bungalow pas mal face à la mer avec belle vue, mais... pas de plage, enfin, plutôt une plage de boue et de galets au pied d'un muret à 20 mètres du bungalow. voir : http://chantal-et-jean-marc-en-asie.blogspot.com/2011/03/1er-au-5-mars-koh-phi-phi.html
Nous sommes repartis direct à l'aéroport de Bangkok pour prendre un avion pour kho pee pee, et là, si la plage est belle, l'ambiance de l'île était ...un truc de fou, pire que les souks de Marrakech, les endroits pour se baigner sont limités par des bouées, zones de 50m par 50 mètres et le reste pour les offshores de 20 places qui font le tour de l’île avec des moteurs de 800 CV... calme et tranquillité inexistants. A fuir aussi.
l'île paradisiaque que nous avons trouvé est Phu Coq au Vietnam, à 20 mn d'avion de Saïgon. Pas de minibus, c'est un enfer de 10 heures, à moins que vous ne vouliez visiter le delta du Mékong, mais sur 7 jours, c'est vraiment court.
Ou alors :arrivée Saïgon par Air Asia compagnie vraiment pas chère, 2 jours à Cantho, ça vaut vraiment le détour, 1 jour de minibus et de bateau pour rejoindre l'île et 4:5 jours sur l'île. Transfert à Saïgon par Vietnam Airlines (25€/pers) et retour en france par Saïgon.
Le nom de l'hôtel (avec un gérant qui est parfaitement francophone)où nous étions par mp si vous voulez, mais c'est un vrai paradis. nous avions loué une mob pour nos 5 jours, nous ne nous en sommes servi que 3 fois. bref un vrai bonheur!

Donner un avis sur une ile ou vous êtes restés une journée c'est quand même pas très sérieux, surtout en n' ayant pas visiter l'ile....Ko chang possède des plages de sable blanc déserte et très propre De l' hostellerie pour toutes les bourses et tout les gouts. Parlons de ce que l'on connait c'est beaucoup plus constructif. La thailand possede des iles pour tout le monde ca va aussi bien de phuket (la plus touristique) à ko lipe, kradan, muk. Lanta n'est pas toujours très propre et phiphi invivable en haute saison (pire que le mont st michel...)
pour un peu plus de précision, sur certains forums nous avions lu que les plages de sable blanc étaient pleines de touristes et les hôtels bruyant d'où le choix de bailan, ensuite, nous y sommes arrivés le soir, par temps gris et nous avons donc rapidement prévu de chercher un autre hôtel le lendemain, mais le matin, il tombait des cordes, donc, parfois il faut prendre des décisions radicales pour les 5 jours de vacances restants.
Pour moi, et ça c'est un avis personnel, un bungalow sea view se devait d'être au bord de la plage, c'est vrai que ce n'est pas front beach, alors ça, plus la boue et les galets, juste une piscine bondée pour se baigner, je ne fais pas 300km pour trouver un tel environnement.
Nous sommes donc partis car franchement par rapport à phu coq, il n'y avait pas photo. et si phi phi n'est pas terrible, il y faisait au moins beau et il y a une vrai plage , ce que nous recherchions car 2 en mois 1/2 de ballades, notre dose de découverte frôlait la saturation et nous étions fatigués.

Vous semblez bien connaitre Ko Chang. Pourriez-vous me conseiller. Je cherche 2 bungalows sur une plage de sable, pour baignade pépère , mais avec de l'animation pas loin. Nous sommes 2 couples d'age mur à partir en janvier à Ko Chhang. Nous ne voulons pas etre obligés de conduire la nuit pour se faire un restau ou boire un petit coup !
N'y a-t-il pas sur White sand beach, un hotel qui corresponde à ma description ?
D'autre part, nous aimons le snorkelling. pensez-vous que nous serons servis à Ko Chang ?
Nous partons pour 1 mois : 5 jours à bangkok, puis Ko Chang 8 jours, Ko Mak (3 jours) et Ko KUt (3 ou 4 jours)...

Il y a de très belles îles en Thaïlande. Des îles avec des bungalows sur la plage, sans route, sans voiture (je pense à Ko Kradan et Ko Ngai, par exemples).
Possibilité de snorkeling directement depuis la plage, déguster la délicieuse cuisine thaïe les pieds dans l'eau. Des plages désertes... Oui il y a tout ça en Thaïlande.
Faut se donner un peu de peine.
Janvier est parfait pour les îles de la mer d'Andaman, faites quelques recherches et vous trouverez votre bonheur.
J'aime bien, pour ma part, commencer mon séjour balnéaire à Koh Lanta (il y a des endroits charmants où le calme règne avec la possibilité de sortir dans des endroits plus animés). De Koh Lanta pendre un ferry pour une île plus petite est très facile.

Hello, proche de Lanta : Ngai, Mook et Kradan, mais exception faite de Mook où il y a une vie locale (village), ce ne sont que des îles hotels, avec plus ou moins d’hôtels, mais par conséquent, activité nocturne réduite, mais jolies plages ...
Ile pleine de charme : Koh Jum ... pour ne rien faire.
Plus bas, Koh Bulon (très tranquille, jolie plage) et Lipe alliant activités, "shopping" et très jolies plages (sur lesquelles vous serez rarement seuls).
Ko Chang, c'est pas mal aussi. J'y étais une fois. Faut aussi savoir que la route est très serpentée et dangereuse. Cependant, il y a possibilité de prendre les transports en commun et de faire de belle sorties dans la jungle et en mer pour le snorkeling.
A Ko Lanta, j'aime bien descendre dans le coin de Relax Bay, depuis cette plage en passant par un petit chemin sur la plage, on accède à deux criques paradisiaques. Sur la grande route (10 minutes à pieds) il y a des bars, des restaurants, des stands de fruits, etc.
A Ko Ngai, j'étais de l'autre côté de l'île où il n'y a qu'un seul ensemble de bungalows : Ko Hai Paradise Resort. Très calme et, très bonne cuisine.
C'est certain, c'est la partie de l'île la moins belle, cependant on accède à la plus belle partie de l'île en empruntant un sentier qui traverse la jungle (sinon possibilité d'y aller ne long tail boat).
A Ko Kradan, il y a un ensemble de bungalows à l'intérieur de l'île (environ 5 minutes de marche, à la cool de la belle plage) : Paradise Lost.
Deux bonnes adresses à prix doux : ces deux îles offrent plutôt des hébergements à prix élevé.
A Ko Hai et à Ko Kradan, il n'y a pas de vie nocturne.
A Ko Lanta, attention à marée base, selon les plages, il est impossible de se baigner.

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before.
