Nous projetons, ma femme et moi, de passer 15 jours en Thaïlande fin janvier 2010 façon routard mais avec des moyen quand même :)
Je m'explique, nous aimerions diviser notre séjour en 2 parties, 1 semaine dans le nord, 1 semaine au sud sur les plages, îles, etc...
Nous arriverons a Bangkok, et pour voyager je pense que le train peut être un bon moyen pour voir du pays, je me trompe? qu'en est il de la sécurité au nord qui est peut etre moins touristique.
Pour la première semaine, au nord, je n'ai aucune idée ou aller, quelle villes, quel endroit ne pas rater, spectacle traditionnel, combat de boxe thaï, spécialités..., bref s'immerger a fond dans l'atmosphère Thaï.
Au sud ca parait plus simple, avec Ko Samui, Phucket ... le plus connu, sinon quoi de mieux? pour cette semaine, nous aimerions trouver, plage de rêve, tranquillité, hôtel 4* au bord de l'eau, authenticité.
Pouvoir faire de la plongé, du snorkeling.

salut, tu pourrais passer quelques jours à Bangkok déjà et tu y verras des combats. Pour le nord, Chiang Mai est pas mal, en train de nuit ou en avion. Il y a pas mal de choses à voir et à faire, moi j'avais bien aimé le repas Kantoké, mais c'est vraiment pour touristes. Pareil pour le marché de nuit. Il y a aussi Chiang Rai et le triangle d'or. La Thailande est un très joli pays, quelque soit l'endroit où tu te poses, mais faut prendre le temps. Pour le sud, si tu cherches le calme, évite peut etre Phuket, il y a plein d'iles moins touristiques.
Moi j'y retourne bientot pour 3 semaines, je vais faire Ayutaya, Kanchanabury et pousser jusqu'en Birmanie, puis vers Sukotai avant de descendre sur le sud. Biensur je passe quelques jours sur Bangkok.
Moi je dirai, mais ça n'engage que moi, 3 jours sur Bangkok, 7 dans le nord et 5 dans le sud.

Une semaine dans le Nord à Chiang Maï et ses proches environs très bien , départ de Bangkok en train pour CM ok mais pour le Sud pense que tu as des vols direct Chiang Mai >> Phuket pas cher avec Air Asiacar en train jusqu'à Phuket très très long jusqu'à Surat Thani ensuite bus pour Phuket donc vaut mieux l'avion pour ce trajet comme tu n'as que 15 jours faut gérer le temps aussi , voici un postdes plus belles plages de Phuket en photos pour te faire une idée . 😉

Je ferais Bangkok 2 jours (visite le palais royal, balade sur les klongs en bateau, marché aux fleurs, le quartier chinois, la maison de jim thomson, boire un coktail en haut de la tour bayoke vue superbe de bangkok surtout la nuit à un prix dérisoire etc...)ensuite prends le train de nuit environ vers 17 h.30 pour une arrivée 7 à 8 h.le lendemain matin sur chiang mai.Y passer au moins 5 jours et si tu veux te faire plaisir descends au rachamankha ou au tamarind village 2 superbes hotels boutiques que tu ne regretteras pas en plus à côté du rachamankha tu as le spa oasis spa un délice.
POur phuket c'est un bon départ pour beaucoup d'excursions pour les différentes iles environnantes donc pour moi un bon choix (étions descendus à l'hotel The Chedi avec plage privée donc le top petit resto à côté pour ne pas manger à l'hotel car toujours plus cher mais le resto de l'hotel vaut son détour)Si plus de renseignements je suis à ta disposition

1) Je confirme pour le Tamarind ! j'y ai passé 3 nuits superbes !
2) Descendre en avion de Chiang Mai à Phuket grace à Air Asia (bien moins cher que la Thai)
3) Pourquoi la déprime ? Perso à mon retour je pense déja au voyage suivant 6 mois plus tard sans aucune nostalgie.

pour le Nord, je te conseille également Chaing Mai, qui est une ville très trsè sympa, avec un lot d'activité diverses à faire.
Je repars en avril, nous avons programmé 4 jours là-bas, contacte moi en MP si tu veux que je te donne ce que nous avons prévu de faire pour te donner des idées.
Je te conseille en tout cas le Doi Sutep, qui pour moi a été le temple qui m'a le plus subjuguée, à tel point que je retourne le voir cette année..
Pour ce qui est du sud, je ne connais pas le côté de Koh Samui, j'y vais cette année.
Mais l'année dernière, j'ai passé une semaine sur Koh Phi Phi et une semaine sur Koh Lanta, et je te recommande vivement Koh Phi Phi qui est (encore une fois, à mes yeux) un petit paradis sur terre.
Tu peux y passer des moments calmes comme des soirées sympa avec des petits bars au bord de l'eau ou tu peux assister a des spectacles de feu etc... Un pur bonheur!

Je me pose une question, nous partons 15 jours, je me demande comment faire pour les resa hotel, je me vois mal réserver plusieurs hôtel sur une durée de 15 jours depuis Paris, on ne sait jamais, on peu aussi changer d'avis, de direction, ou avoir un imprevu.
Du 25/01 au 9/02 est ce une période ou les hôtels sont surbookés? genre fêtes, vacances etc... l'année dernière nous étions partis a Bali pour le jour de l'an, et bien nous en a pris de réserver depuis Paris, vacance indonésiennes oblige, l'île était envahie.
Mais la, nous allons certainement passer par 3-4 hôtels, peut être vaut il mieux prendre les coordonnées des hôtels susceptible de nous intéresser et réserver sur place le moment venu?
Perso je te conseille de faire 2-3 jours à bkk et ensuite prendre le train de nuit pour Chiang-Mai. Le train est très sympa on y rencontre pleins de gens et les thais.
Tu peux organiser un petit trek de 2 jours dans les villages autour de chiang-mai, tu peux le faire de bangkok. Je te conseille de le faire avec BMP. En plus ils ont une guest House tres sympathique et pas loin du centre de chiang-mai. Tu peux rester 2 jours sur chiang mai, il y a pas mal de chose à voir.
Pour le sud je te conseille le côté Est et plus particulièrement Koh Tao qui est une toute petite île où on peux trouver des hotels très confortables et tu peux y faire de la plongée ou snorkeling.
Nous avons fait une journée en bateau avec snorkeling sur 6 sites différents (chacuns leur charmes : requins, coraux, bénitiers, poissons, etc...)
Nous devions rester que 2 jours et nous y sommes restés 4 jours.
Pour les réservations d'hotel il faut pas se prendre la tête.
Nous sommes partis du 18 janvier au 7 février 2009 et nous n'avions réservé aucun hotel et nous n'avons pas galéré une seule fois. Nous partions le matin sans savoir où nous allions dormir le soir.

Oui.
On va te dire que tu peux toujours trouver de quoi te loger a la dernière minute mais n'espère pas, alors, avoir le choix de l'hébergement... 🤪

Au fait, le nord de la Thaïlande est très touristique...

Ca depend... Faut regarder les dates des jours fériés (très nombreux). En général, ca donne soit un week-end de 3 jours, soit un pont, voire un aqueduc 😉 et les thaïs prennent alors d'assaut les bus et les trains, les touristes étrangers se rabattent sur l'avion et celui qui arrive après, ben... Il change ses plans!!! 😏
En fait, en Thailande, si tu veux voyager en bus et en train, il faut prendre en compte le facteur touriste thaïlandais (tout comme en France, d'ailleurs! 😛 )...

Nous avons 10 jours a booker aux alentours de phuket, (iles), avec un budget max 90e/nuit en esperant trouver un hotel de reve:) genre 2 foix 5 jour, 2 endroits diferents ou carement 10 jours si ca vaut vraiment le coup avec possibilite de plonger francophone si possible et joli spot de snorkeling. on a pas trop envie de trainer ca reviens plus cher, les sites ultra touristiques cest pas mon truc.
Voila c'est fini, retour dramatique a Paris, il neige il fait très froids, et la grisaille pique les yeux 🙁
Sinon, séjour en Thaïlande que l'on est pas près d'oublier, apres 2jours a Bangkok nous sommes descendu a Phuket en avion par Airasia.
1 nuit a Patong, et départ le lendemain matin pour Ko phi phi en bateau.
9 jour sur l'ile, le rêve, circuit autour des iles en bateau, plongée avec la charmante équipe francophone de Phi Phi Scuba Diving Center, Christian d'origine canadienne, a Phi Phi depuis 2 ans, nous a fait découvrir de magnifiques fonds marins lors de nos 2 plongées, merci a eux, Chris, bill, nico, brigitte, et les autres pour cette formidable journée, et ce magnifique Dvd conçu par nico.
Aussi, jolies promenades, snorkeling, des poisson partout, des petits requins a la pointe de long beach (sisi, j'ai nagé avec😛), kayak pour aller vers monkey beach ou nui beach, etc...
On mange super bien aussi, il y a un papy qui fait des pad thai enveloppé dans une fine omelette et d'autres plats excellents, j'ai jamais mangé mieux que chez lui, dans la rue qui part en face du port, une 100aine de mètres sur la gauche.
Nous sommes descendu au Phi Phi villa resort a 3000 bath la nuit, c'est pas donné, mais l'endroit est charmant, et le service et l'équipe impeccable. il ya un peu moins cher, 1500 bath environ avec clim, partout en ville au dessus des magasins. on peu trouver encore moins cher pour les aventuriers, j'ai vu un truc a 250 bath la nuit :)

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. What do the experts here think? And which website can we use to book the tickets? Thanks in advance for your tips!

For those familiar with SOUTHEAST ASIA, I'm planning to leave in mid-June (with the trip ending at the latest in November), and I don’t have a precise idea of exact places or itineraries yet. The thing is, this period is usually the rainy season...
Any advice? I was thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia, like Sulawesi, for example (all countries and islands in Southeast Asia interest me except Bali).
Any recommendations? I’m doing my research online, but if anyone here has the time and knowledge, I’d love to hear from you.
My partner and I are planning a trip to Indonesia in September-October 2026. It’ll be our first time in Asia, and we’re thinking of hitting the classic spots in East Java and Bali, then wrapping up with a cruise around Komodo for some snorkeling/diving. My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?
