Hi, I’ve got a long morning in Tozeur in mid-April (I need to be at the airport by 2 p.m.). I’d like to visit the palmeraie and the main sights in Tozeur and the immediate surrounding area within a few kilometers. Looking for ideas and tips—what to see and how to do it? If needed, I can keep my rental car (or take a taxi). Thanks so much!

I’d like to visit the palm grove

The palm grove is basically just a pretty monotonous row of date palms. Otherwise, I remember visiting a small zoo there.

Hello, A morning is short, even if it’s a "big" one. Still, a horse-drawn carriage ride through the palm grove—especially with kids, since the driver lets them sit next to him—is really pleasant early in the day. Next, visiting the old medina in the city center, called Ouled el Hadef, is a must to admire the brick architecture. Finally, near the airport, a stop at Dar Chrait—its museum, beautiful architecture, and a light snack before your flight—seems like a great way to make the most of your time. Enjoy your stay in Tozeur. Best regards, Calaf

Hello! Not much time to explore outside of Tozeur, but as mentioned, a carriage ride through the palmeraie and a walking tour of the medina are great options. While you're in the medina, you can visit the small museum that Souad will show you and take a look at the 2 or 3 beautiful artisan shops under the arcades, including Alef’s shop in the Souk Rebaa, which showcases and sells items from around 15 artisans.

Not sure if Dar Cheraiet is still open, but if it is, a little time on its terrace is really nice.

If you ever have more time, a trip to the mountain oases—Chébika, Tamerza, and Midès—is a must, though it’s over an hour’s drive. But it’s absolutely worth the trip.

Enjoy your stay in Tozeur!
