Si tu pars longtemps cela peut être intéressant (encore que j'en doute), mais sinon autant louer là bas il y a tout ce qu'il faut sur place pour trouver son bonheur (et pas que des Harley).
Fatality64, je te remercie de ton message mais je dois préciser que mon projet fixe la durée du séjour entre 3 et 6 mois donc je pense que la location n'est pas financièrement intéréssante en ce cas, reste à savoir deux choses:
_l'achat d'une moto d'occasion sur place (prix ET possibilité rapide de revente aprés le périple) transport de ma propre moto sur place avec retour.
Je reste donc dans l'attente (active) de renseignements frais à ces sujets.merci d'avance.

D'après les discussions sur le forum, il n'est pas simple d'acheter et surtout de revendre rapidement une moto aux states. Et l'assurer semble un casse-tête ...
Oui, 3 semaines c'est un minimum ;faut mieux compter un mois ou presque;je compte environ 1500 euro pour un aller et presque autant pour un retour :cher le trip !presque 3000euro de voyage moto sans compter l'assurance plus le billet avion, je te dis pas le budget engagé avant même d'avoir fait le premier mile !! je me demande si je ne suis pas un peu irréaliste en projetant ce truc..A moins de se faire sponsoriser..mais qui va sponsoriser un gars qui veut voyager à moto aux States..

Si ça te coûte 1500euro de l'envoyer par bateau, envoie la par avion ça coute le même prix et il faut pas 1 mois pour faire la traversé. http://www.motorcycleexpress.com/Shipping/ShippingQuote/ se site propose une offre tous compris tu part de paris et tu peu arrivé dans pas mal de ville différente au états unis ou au canada. Un site d'un couple qui a utilisé cette société très récemment http://www.motards-nomades.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=13&Itemid=12 et ils en sont très content, à l'arrivée ils ont juste signé un formulaire et payé 30€ et c'était partie.
Pour l'assurance va voir se site allemand (disponible en anglais) http://www.tourinsure.de/englisch/index_e.htm, il y a les tarif en fonction de la cylindré de ta moto et si tu l'assure au tiers ou tous risque. oui moi aussi j'ai remarqué ça, mais moi il y a que l'allée qui m'intéresse car après je laisse ma mob la bas. Moi je fais Paris Montréal pour 1800$. Le fait que le retour sois moins cher est du au faite que les taxes à l'entrée du pays Français sois moins élevé que les taxes à l'entrée des USA, et il y a aussi le fait que l'entreprise Motorcycleexpress est basé au Etats Unis, donc ils ont surment des reductions pour les départs des Etats Unis. mais bon je me suis pas penché sur le problème vu qu'il y a que le trajet allé qui m'intéresse. Il y a aussi le fait que si tu fait l'allé au retour sa leur fait moins de paperasse à faire car tu à déja ton dossier de fait, donc encore un gain d'argent. Enfin de toute façon j'ai pas trouvé moins cher que eux en offre tous compris.

je me demandais par hasard avec quelques copains, si en se mettant à plusieurs, louer un conteneur de petite ou moyenne taille suivant le nombre que nous sommes (aller et retour) et y mettre les motos pour les envoyer au usa, et le tout diviser par le nombre de moto niveau financier, ca serai pas avantageux et moins couteux que de louer directement au US

un conteneur ou l'on peut mettre un 4*4 coute environ 3000 euro; (l'allée simple), donc 6000 aller-retour. Je pense que tu peut logé 6 moto dedans. Ensuite il faut compter le dédouanement, environ 1000$ pour une voiture, donc surement moins cher pour une moto. Et après il faut prendre une assurance américaine pour assurer ta moto car en France tu ne trouvera aucune compagnie qui te couvrira.
Je peut pas te dire le cout de la location d'une moto au US, mais tu trouvera surement la réponse sur le forum. Mais au US c'est surtout des Harleys qui sont en location, donc je sais pas si c'est le genre de moto que tu conduit.
A savoir aussi qu'il faut compter 3 semaine pour faire traverser ta moto (15 jours de traverser et 3 jour de stockage dans le port de départ et 3 jour de stockage dans le port d'arrivé).
Moi j'ai fait envoyer ma mob par avion a Montréal, par une compagnie qui transporte des motos, Sa ma couter 1300 euros tous compris et la mob a fait la traverser dans le même avion que moi.

merci pour la reponse, je sais bien mais je me suis renseigné avec des amis sur la location de moto avec eaglerider et pour une durée de 25 jours de locations ca fait une facture de 4500 $ soir environ soit 3200 euros pour une harley et pour une goldwing sa frole les 5000 $, bon biensur la evip et la sli sont comprises.
Il est vrai qu'à ce tarif là, pour la location, il est normal de réfléchir, c'est d'ailleurs pour cela qu'on regarde toute les éventualités pour réduire le budget. D'après ce que tu viens de me dire, en parlant de transport pur et simple, avec 6 motos ca reviens à 1000 euros A/R, c'est un bon tarif, tout dépends de la taille du contener et aussi du rangement des motos dans le conteneur et surtout des caisses. Après il est vrai que je connais pas encore la réglementation la dessus, mais peut être qu'on peux fabriquer nos propres caisses pour les entreposer (sans roue avant et sans guidon, pour que ca prends le moins de place possible et d'en mettre un max).

En effet c'est cher de louer une moto au USA.
Pour les conteneur ils font tous 8 pied de large (environ 2.4m) et les longueur sont 20, 30 ou 40 pied (soit 6, 9, 12m). Le prix que je t'avais donner c'est pour un 6m. La réglementation maritime est moins exigeante que l'aviation. Tu peux faire tes caisse toi même, et je te le conseil , sa limite les risques d'abimer les motos.

Je continue l'élaboration de mon projet de voyage-moto aux USA ;je me heurte à plusieurs problèmes
1.Je suis trés légèrement handicapé du pognet droit : il est bloqué par arthrodèse :ma poignée de gaz est à gauche ;mon permis est régularisé , mon assrance idem , je suis total '' street legal '' en Europe .
2.Aucun loueur contacté ne veut modifier une moto louée donc impossible louer .3.Aucun des assureurs spécialisés dans l'assurance des voyageurs étrangers n'a répondu à mes mails et courriers postaux ..Ecrits en bon anglais ( je suis prof d'anglais ..) donc parfaitement lisible et compréhensible ..3.Je suis donc bloqué .Quelqu'un aurait-il une idée pour sortir du problème '' par le haut '' pour pouvoir réaliser ce projet ? Je rermercie d'avance toutes les personnes qui pourraient coopérer .
a tu essayer de contacter http://www.motorcycleexpress.com/ ils sont très prot et réactif, ils ont réussi à assurer ma mobylette sur le sol américain et canadien, donc je pense qu'une moto avec la poignée d'accélérateur à gauche ne devrais pas posé de problème. En plus pourquoi précise tu au assurance que ta poignée d'accélérateur est à gauche, franchement on sens fou. Quand tu vois certaine Harley au usa, qui on par exemple un levier pour l'embrayage (il faut donc tenir le guidon d'une main pour changer de vitesse), c'est bien plus casse gueule. Et pour infos au usa la moitié des voitures et moto ne sont pas assurer. Je serrais toi je dirait rien sur la spécificité de ta moto.
Oui , j'ai contacté motorcycleexpress via son assureur aux usa et ils ne m'ont pas répondu ;je suis obligé de le mentionner car c'est écrit sur mon permis , qui a été régularisé pour que je n'ai pas de souci pour rouler et puisse être assuré au tarif normal .Deuxièmement il est impératif d'être assuré aux USA pour un étranger sinon en cas de problème , c'est la catastrophe économique ;donc pas question de jouer au chat et à la souris : je pars oui mais correctement assuré sinon c'est niet .mais je ne vois pas pourquoi ils ne répondent pas .

Je n'ai pas pu (encore) réâliser ce projet:à cela deux raisons principales.
1.
La première est que je n'ai pu obtenir la retraite au titre de la carrière longue, un des mes trimestres avant 20 ans n'ayant pas été déclaré par l'employeur...
La seconde est que les prix sont prohibitifs pour mon budget:aller-retour avion (bien plus simple et pratique que le maritime) coûtant environ 4000 euro...Plus l'aller retour bonhomme + l'assurance:je dois dépenser plus de 6000 euro avant d'avoir fait le premier mile sur la route;c'est tout simplement trop...pour mon budget! Et toi, où en es-tu?

J'aimerai beaucoup partir avec ma moto (transalp dernier modèle) car je ne parle pas anglais couramment et pour en acheter une, j'ai peur de ne pas tout comprendre (propriété, établir une carte grise...). C'est pourquoi je regarde avec des organismes qui pourraient m'aider dans cette démarche.

New to the forum, but not so new to Asia 😄
I’m Nico, from Switzerland, currently based in Bangkok. I love taking my motorcycle out to get lost in the mountains and small villages of Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and more. I’ve been roaming around this area for a good fifteen years now, racking up quite a few kilometers—especially in northern Vietnam.
This time, I finally decided to tackle the Mae Hong Son Loop, clockwise. I’d been to Pai several times before, but oddly enough, I’d never done the full loop.
So, I’ll try to give you a little recap here, day by day, with the roads, stops, places worth checking out… and those that didn’t quite blow my mind 😅
I also filmed the trip, so I’ll post the corresponding video at the end of each day if that’s okay. If it’s not allowed here, just let me know, and I’ll remove them without any issue.
DAY 1 — Chiang Mai → Doi Inthanon → Mae Chaem → Khun Yuam
I left Chiang Mai after renting a Honda ADV 160 from Pop Motorbike. Not exactly an Africa Twin, but for what I had planned, it was more than enough.
Quick hotel note: I stayed at the Lanna Thaphae Hotel before leaving. Around 30 € per night, super well-located, and probably one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in. A crucial detail for any motorcycle road trip, obviously.
The plan for the day was pretty straightforward:
Head toward Doi Inthanon… and see what happens.
Flawless Swiss organization.
First stop along the way at Wachirathan Waterfall. A really nice waterfall, very easy to access, but don’t expect to channel your inner Indiana Jones—it’s crowded, touristy, and swimming isn’t allowed. Still, it’s a pretty stop along the way.
Next, up to Doi Inthanon.
The road climbs steeply, and my little 160cc started to realize that carrying my 80 kg to Thailand’s highest point probably wasn’t part of its youthful dreams. I was maxing out at 34 km/h in some spots.
But it made it. Good little bike.
The summit is nice—the forest is beautiful, and it’s cool—but I have to admit, it didn’t completely wow me. Glad I went, but not necessarily the highlight of the day for me.
Because then comes Route 1192.
And that’s *much* more my thing: small mountain roads, beautiful scenery, hardly any traffic… the kind of road where I usually start taking way too many unnecessary detours just because a little side road “looks fun.”
Stopped in Mae Chaem for a bite to eat, then headed to Khun Yuam to finish the day.
A little over 200 km in total.
Khun Yuam is… quiet.
*Very* quiet. 😅
A cute little market, a couple of cafés/restaurants, and zero chance of ending up in a club until 4 AM. But after a day on the bike, it was perfect.
Stayed at the Mit Khun Yuam Hotel, around 20 € for a small but very decent room.
All in all, a solid first day and a pretty relaxed start to the loop. Part of this leg is mostly about getting out of Chiang Mai and really diving into the mountains, in my opinion.
Because for me, the really interesting stuff starts over the next two days…
And a few slightly questionable route decisions will also make an appearance 😅

I’m starting to think about a trip that’s really close to my heart: Algeria by motorcycle, specifically the southern part of the country. It’d be for January 2025, and I’ve got two main questions:
Is it possible for an individual on a motorcycle to travel freely, outside of any organized tour, or does the regulation require some kind of supervision in the Algerian Sahara region?
Is the Hoggar massif accessible by road or by (rideable) tracks?
Beyond the official recommendations, I’m really looking for your firsthand experiences.

I just realized I’ve been registered on VoyageForum since... March 28, 2012 😊. Yet, I’ve barely participated until now.
August 1, 2026, will mark a somewhat special milestone: 5 years on the road.
We left Switzerland on August 1, 2021 with a simple idea: let chance decide our direction. We placed a bottle of wine on a world map, spun it... and it chose our first destination.
A year later, when we arrived in Morocco, we faced a new choice: continue toward Africa or head to Asia. This time, a tarot card game made the decision. Since then, we’ve tried to keep this journey as open to the unexpected as possible.
Today, that adds up to about 120,000 km, 46 countries, and over 1,800 days on the road—mostly by motorcycle, but also by sailboat, train, bus, hitchhiking, or on foot when adventure calls.
Our guiding thread isn’t just the motorcycle, but service exchanges. Instead of simply passing through countries, we try to stop regularly to lend a hand to the people we meet. So far, that’s about 600 days of volunteering.
Over the years, we’ve:
renovated a house in Croatia
made earth bricks in the Moroccan desert
helped sail a boat through the Greek islands
looked after houses, dogs, horses, a camel... and lots of other animals
worked at a street art festival in Morocco
created videos for local associations and projects
worked the grape harvest on the Tibetan plateau
been accredited as "media" for the World Nomad Games in Central Asia
Some of the moments that have stuck with us the most include six months in China, a night spent on the Great Wall, the Pamir Highway, the Silk Road, three months in Taiwan, and the incredible encounters in the mountains of Central Asia.
We travel on Falkor, our lucky dragon—a 2014 BMW F800GS that’s been with us since the start and is starting to have some great stories of its own.
While we share our adventure on Instagram, Polarsteps, and YouTube, that’s not why we’re here. The forum’s rules about promotion are clear, and I totally get them. If I’m finally taking the time to write, it’s mostly because after five years on the road, I thought our experience might be useful to other travelers.

I’m planning a motorcycle road trip to Armenia and Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027. I’m looking for one or more riders (male or female) who’d like to explore these countries with me.
Along the way, we’ll visit Cappadocia, the capitals Yerevan, Tbilisi, Sofia, Skopje, and other cities—we can finalize the route and roadbook later.
This trip requires experience with long motorcycle journeys, as we’ll cover around 7,000 km over 5 or 6 weeks (or more, depending on sightseeing and time spent).

Ideally, coming from Athens, I’d take a bus or train to get as close as possible to a starting point, then rent a scooter (125cc) to explore by taking secondary roads or even coastal paths. I’d stay in 2-3 places for a few days each to discover their surroundings.

From Athens, the best option would be to take either a flight or a bus to Kalamata. Rent a scooter and head either west or east. Is there a tertiary road (very lightly trafficked) or a path where I can ride slowly, take it easy, and enjoy the scenery without being bothered by traffic? I’d like to go all the way to Monemvasia, still hugging the coast. I need to find a way to avoid returning to Kalamata to drop off the scooter and catch a flight—maybe a small town where the train stops so I can head back to Athens.

I’m looking for info on shipping my vehicle by sea—possibly to Uruguay or another destination, as I haven’t finalized anything yet.
How do you get visas for the countries I’ll be crossing: Uruguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and Chile? Are they e-Visas, obtained at the border, or through embassies?
Where can I get vehicle insurance?
Lastly, if any bikers want to join us (my partner and me), we’re open to that possibility too.

I’ve got 15 days off in June and I’m pretty undecided about where to go for a motorcycle road trip. Two strong desires are pulling me in different directions: Corsica or Norway.
Corsica has been a dream of mine for a long time: legendary roads, stunning landscapes, a unique vibe, and the perfect mix of sea and mountains. At the same time, I’m wondering if 2 weeks might be *too much* for Corsica—risking feeling like I’ve seen it all too quickly, especially on a bike.
Since I also have an extra week free in May, I could use that specifically for Corsica. Maybe splitting it into two trips would make more sense? If so, which routes or regions would be the most interesting to plan for a 7-day trip?
On the other hand, Norway is *super* appealing. The landscapes look incredible, totally different from anything I’ve experienced, and it’d be a real “wow” trip. I know 15 days is still short for such a vast country. Getting all the way to the North Cape seems pretty much impossible in that time, but I’m curious about what realistic routes could be planned.
So I’m wondering:
Is it better to save Norway for next year, take 3 weeks off, and do it *properly*?
Or are 15 days enough for a first amazing taste of the country?
I’d love to hear about your experiences—whether it’s Corsica (ideal duration, routes) or Norway (what’s realistic in 2 weeks on a bike).

Hello! We’re planning a motorcycle trip that will include a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in June 2026.
We’re unsure (still debating) whether we should stay at a hotel on-site and get to the memorial with an Uber (leaving our bikes at the hotel) and book a guided tour, or base ourselves in Kraków and take a tour that includes transport.
One thing’s for sure—we’d prefer a guide in French since we don’t speak English 😅.
Could you share your experiences or advice?
