Your thoughts on booking Agoda via Kayak for cheaper rates

hi everyone, here’s the thing I just made a hotel reservation on Agoda through Kayak

I found an interesting hotel in Krabi—booking directly through Agoda was 160 € per night, but when I searched the same hotel and dates on Kayak, it showed 136 € per night... So I went with that option via Kayak, and I landed on Agoda with the original price of 160 € crossed out and the new price at 136 €. I completed the payment and instantly received an email from Agoda confirming the booking.

But why such a discount? I’ve got quite a few more bookings to make, and they’re all cheaper through Kayak. I’ve seen negative reviews about Kayak, but only for flights. Plus, at the bottom of Agoda’s site, it says Kayak and Agoda are partners.

I’d love to know if anyone else has used this method and if they had any bad surprises... Like the site canceling the reservation last minute or the price suddenly going up.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts! :)

I’ve always booked directly through Agoda.

However, I’d recommend checking the actual hotel prices first by searching their name online. For hotels with their own website, you’ll at least have a solid baseline. If not, you’ll still get an idea of the usual rates from different competitors.

I’m curious about the prices you mentioned. Those sound like luxury hotel rates—almost French-level prices. If you’re not specifically looking for that, keep in mind you can often find mid-range hotels with a pool for 25 to 40 € per night. It also depends on when you book, where you’re staying, and the season.

Hi, I never book my accommodations in advance. I check on Booking.com and Agoda, as well as the hotel’s own website if it exists. Then I pick a few places and make a list with their listed prices. Once I’m there, I negotiate the price down by 10–15%, sometimes even more. Plus, I can see the place in person, and if I’m not happy, I just move on to the next option on my list. It’s rare that the first one is fully booked, but it can happen—no big deal, there’s always somewhere else. How did people even travel before the internet when no one booked anything in advance?

hey, we're heading to Krabi just for this high-end hotel on the most beautiful beach there, and it's really popular so yeah, we won't go without a reservation—thanks though!

if anyone's used Kayak to book before, I'd love to hear about it :)

This is my 7th trip to Thailand -- hotels at 20 € don’t interest me anymore

When are you leaving? On Booking it's 115 € for 2 people—I did a simulation for May 15th.

April 22 to 26, and I’d already checked Booking.com. My question is specifically about Agoda reviews when booking through Kayak—I’m hoping someone here has done this before. Thanks!

Hi there, - Kayak is a comparison site. - On Kayak, sites are competing, so they often offer lower prices. - When you click on an offer, the generated link sent to the chosen site contains a code with 'kayak,' and the site is informed... and even sends a thank-you payment to Kayak. - After checking the site (Agoda, for example), sometimes if you close the Agoda window and return later, Agoda might offer an even lower price (Agoda knows you’re back thanks to cookies saved on your computer). That’s one of Agoda’s techniques!

On the hotel’s website, the cheapest rooms for those dates are over 200 € per night.

However, there’s a warning before the homepage due to renovation work on the lobby scheduled from December 1st to April 30th. Since you’ll be there toward the end of that period, you probably won’t face too many inconveniences.

we already booked them through Kayak last week for 134 €, but since then the prices have gone up. I’m thinking of using the same method for Koh Tao. I’m still hesitating between Sairee Hut Resort and Savage Hostel for April 26–30.
