J'ai trouvé comme tout le monde beaucoup d'informations ici, et j'en remercie les membres.
J'ai par conséquent décidé de livrer ici l'avancée des préparatifs, et plus tard au retour de pouvoir donné à mon tour quelques bons tuyaux et récits.
Le transport : - nous voyagerons à destination du Vientam sur Qatar airways, les billets peuvent être réservés sur leur site ou sur n'importe quel voyagiste en ligne. Le choix s'est fait en fonction du tarif (environ 2000 euros pour deux avec assurance annulation), très intéressant (même si je viens de voir des vols avec Korean airlines un peu moins cher, mais la vente pour cette période n'était pas encore ouverte sur cette compagnie). Cette compagnie semble avoir de plus de bonnes prestations. Pour Vietam airlines les meilleurs places étaient semble-t'il déja partie. L'escale à Doa est suffisamment courte pour ne pas se morfondre et assez longue pour avoir le temps de faire la correspondance tranquillement.- à celà il nous faut ajouter un billet de train A/R Toulouse/Paris à environ 80-100 euros à deux en billets prem's ou idtgv mais les réservations n'ouvrent que 3 mois à l'avance. Pour info c'est le prix aller en avion low-cost. Nous ajouterons également un vol intérieur pour le vietnam afin de rejoindre Saigon au départ d'Hanoi pour retourner en France. J'ai vur sur le forum qu'il fallait compter au moins 45 euros par personne pour ce type de vol. Revenir à Ho Chi Minh par un autre moyen serait beaucoup trop long. Nos déplacement durant notre séjour ne sont pas encore fixés.Les formalités :- le Visa : visa on arrival ou commander totalement à l'avance. J'avoue que je suis tenté par le visa à l'arrivée ce qui nous permettrai d'économiser quelques euros utiles ailleurs. Pour le visa on arrival nous opterions pour ce site www.visa-vietnam.org nous pouvons opter pour le site actions visas (86 euros TTC pour un visa simple entrée d'un mois) pour recevoir les visas à domicile.- le passeport, évidemment indispensable. J'ai cru comprendre qu'un passeport européen peut s'avérer utile, puisqu'il peut permettre de s'adresser à l'ambassade d'un pays de l'union européenne pour au moins un premier contact. Nous avons tout deux un passeport à demander il sera donc européen. Coût 60 euros par personnes. Infos sur le site du ministère de l'intérieur ici Pour ce qui est du passeport biométrique il se met en place lentement et j'ignore s'il sera biométrique ou simplement électronique. Le visa biométrique est en place pour les vietnamiens pour leur entrée en France. Comprenons bien qu'il s'agit du visa pour la France à partir du Vietnam et que cette procédure ne nous concerne pas, voir ici- Santé : les vaccins habituels en France à jour (DT Polio....), certains autres sont recommandés : fièvre typhoïde, hépatite A (nous avons moins de 40 ans et donc peu de chance d'être protégé naturellement. Ma femme devra emporter ses ordonnances pour ses médicaments.

Nous avions prévu de voyager au Vietnam au moment où un de nos amis vietnamiens s'y trouverait lui-même, mais il a avancer ces dates de voyages, et ce n'était d'ailleurs qu'un point de chute à notre arrivée.
Le forum fourmille d'informations à ce sujet. Nous cherchons des hébergements abordables à Ho Chi Minh, Nha Trang, Hue, Hanoï et Hai Phông (baie d'Along). Nous avons d'ores et déja acheté le guide du routard :)

Ce n'est pas une bonne idée de passer par Qatar Airways pour deux raisons: Avril est une période creuse pour le billet d'avion. Le tarif doit être inférieur à 800 Euros AR, au plus fort du prix du baril. Avril 2009, le prix du billet devrait être encore plus intéressant car le prix du baril est déjà au plus bas et la crise est là, il y a moins de voyageurs Avec VN Airlines, vous avez la possibilité d'arriver à Saigon et repartir à Hanoi pour 760 Euros AR et vous économisez par rapport à Qatar Airways le vol Hanoi - Saigon.
Tout compte fait, je vous fais déjà gagner 240 * 2 = 480 Euros (Vol AR) et 80 * 2 = 160 Euros (Vol Hanoi - Saigon), donc un total de 640 Euros! Sur 21 jours, cela vous autorisera un budget supplémentaire de 30 Euros par jour!

Vous pouvez louer une tente au bord du Golfe de Vinh Hung près de Phan Rang, et le tarif ne doit pas dépasser quelques euros par nuit ou dormir à la belle étoile dans l'ile de Quan Lan, sur une plage de sable blanc (tout à fait autorisé, d'autant qu'en fin Avril, le climat est très agréable dans l'ile).
En ce qui concerne les vêtements nous prévoyons quelques vêtements chauds et résistants à la pluie même si nous serons hors mousson
Pas de vêtements chauds, svp, mais des vêtements très légers en coton pour absorber la sueur.

Il vaut mieux compter un budget à 2, car vous partagez la chambre d'hôtel🙂 + budget repas autour de 10 euros par jour + Frais de transport. On a donc 24 Euros + 30 Euros (que je vous ai fait gagner), vous aurez un budget confortable à 54 Euros par jour et ce n'est pas un luxe encore!

Vous avez déjà bien programmé votre voyage, donc je me contenterai de répondre seulement à quelques détails :
Dommage que vous n'ayez pas pu obtenir de billet Vietnam Airlines, le préacheminement depuis la province sur Air France vous aurait fait bénéficié de la gratuité et vos bagages auraient été enregistrés jusqu'à destination - bon à savoir peut-être pour un autre voyage..
Pour les vaccins, vous pouvez vous inspirer effectivement du Guide du Routard, lequel ne vous recommandera pas d'avaler des tas de cachets contre le paludisme..
Par contre à Hanoi, ledit guide vous parlera sans doute du Vénus Hôtel, rue Van Can.. N'y allez pas, il a changé de propriétaire et ce petit hôtel qui était délicieux.. est devenu... enfin n'y allez pas - j'ai d'ailleurs vu des tas de retours de touristes qui ne l'ont pas apprécié non plus!!.
Vous pouvez en trouver rue Hang Be (près du Lac Hoan Kiem) il y en a au moins 2 très corrects et dans le cadre de votre budget : au 57 et 22. - quant à Ho Chi Minh Ville vous aurez tout un choix à prix raisonnable dans le quartier routard Pham Ngu Lao - d'ailleurs ils sont indiqués dans votre guide : je les ai vus : ils sont valables dans l'ensemble avec un bémol pour Lucy Hôtel où, si les chambres sont bien, l'accueil est quelque peu froid; par contre au Betty chambres à louer, ils parlent le français -
Pour le visa, comme vous êtes en province, il est sans doute plus facile de passer par action-visas qui vous les enverra à domicile.
Quant aux passeports, bien sûr qu'ils sont européens - selon votre région je pense qu'on vous délivrera les nouveaux. ou les anciens comme les nôtres de 2006 mais qui "passent" tout à fait au Vietnam!!

Pourquoi passer par un organisme ? Je vous assure que cela ne pose aucun problème d'obtenir son visa par correspondance, directement auprès de l'ambassade du Vietnam à Paris lorsqu'on habite en province ; et que les délais sont identiques voire plus rapides. C'est ce que nous avons toujours fait jusqu'à présent ; et cette année c'est également par correspondance que nous avons obtenu sans souci nos certificats d'exemption de visas (origines vietnamiennes). Une seule reserve mais de taille !! verifiez bien vos confirmations de vol avec Qatar. Ils ont la sale habitude de faire du surbooking et n'hesitent pas a laisser en plan des voyageurs sous des pretextes divers : excedents de bagages par exemple. (histoire vecue, j'ai une amie qui est restee bloquee deux jours a l'aeroport de Bangkok sous des pretextes bidons. En transit a BKK et tunisienne, elle n'a meme pas pu sortir de l'aeroport, puisque la Tunisie n'a pas d'accord de visa immediat avec la Thailande, jusqu'a ce que nous intervenions avec force de Vientiane aupres des responsables de la Qatar Thailande).

VN Airlines propose 2 périodes promotionnelles du 21 Avril au 16 Juin et du 21 Aout au 10 Octobre. J'ai obtenu justement des billets à 760 Euros en Juin 2008, ce pourquoi j'en parle en toute connaissance de cause. J'ai eu aussi des billets à 900 et 1100 Euros en dehors de la période promotionnelle.
En ce moment, bien qu'on ne soit plus en période de promotions, on peut trouver sur le net des billets à plus de 1100 Euros que ce soit sur VN Airlines que Qatar Airways.
Mais la crise est bien là, je viens d'avoir des billets Départ Novembre et Retour en Décembre pour 800 Euros, modifiable une fois pendant une période de 3 mois! sur Qtar Airways, grâce à une agence de voyages!, alors que sur le net, on ne trouve que des billets de plus de 1100 Euros.

Premier point le prix des billets : j'avais repéré les périodes de promos de vietnam airlines et cette possibilité effectivement d'arriver dans une ville et de partir d'une autre, mais nous avons décidé de partir au moi d'avril en raison des vacances de pâques, ce qui simplifie les choses pour notre fils qui ne voyagera pas avec nous cette fois, c'est vrai que je n'avais pas précisé ce point.
760 euros je n'ai pas trouvé, excepté peut-être avec cette fameuse compagnie russe ;), et vietnam airlines était déja loin de ce prix.
Nous sommes un peu novice pour ce qui est de chercher les meilleurs prix pour les vols Abalone, j'ai l'impression qu'il s'agit avant tout d'arriver au bon moment pour réserver son vol dans telle compagnie : exemple Korean airlines qui ne proposait pas encore de vols pour cette période.

Je ne m'amuse pas à rechercher le meilleur prix dans d'autres compagnies, sauf une fois avec Ethiheid mais cette fois-là j'avais décidé d'aller à Phuket🙂, cependant de longues heures d'attente dans une escale au pays du Golfe de presque 10 heures m'a guéri de vouloir profiter d'une "bonne occase".
Dommage pour vous de ne pas pouvoir déplacer votre voyage de quelques jours pour profiter du tarif promotionnel de VN Airlines.
Mon message était aussi de vous dire que les tarifs actuels sont encore basés sur le prix du baril à plus de 100 voire 140 dollars, et que le prix du baril est maintenant très bas et que les compagnies n'ont pas encore répercuté cette baisse.
Rien de sert pour l'instant de vouloir réserver trop tôt, ce n'est plus le même problématique qu'il y a 6 mois et que la crise économique raréfie le nombre de voyageurs, donc une concurrence plus féroce se fera entre les compagnies.

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. What do the experts here think? And which website can we use to book the tickets? Thanks in advance for your tips!

I’m heading back to Thailand in July 2026 with a stopover in Cambodia to visit the Angkor site.
After Angkor, I’ve booked a stay on Ko Chang island. Does anyone know if there are direct transport options from Cambodia to Ko Chang without having to go back through Bangkok? That would be amazing!!
I think there are, but I’d need more details!!
I went to Thailand in February 2025 and don’t remember having to apply for a visa—is that still the case now? And for Cambodia too?

For our Bangkok-Sukhothai trips, I use a company I’ve already tried, but they don’t have a fleet available from Sukhothai and have to go through third-party companies—which, understandably, take their commission. This nearly doubles the prices...

My trip’s coming up, and I’m having a bit of trouble with three bus/minivan routes. Usually, I find everything at this time of year, but this time—yikes!
Sandakan → Sepilok:
No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.
Where do I board, and where does it drop me off?

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.

• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?
