Hi,

Has anyone gone on a language study trip in Europe? If so, which agencies did you use? What can you tell me about it? Thanks a lot! Kelkune

I’ve got a great tip for a language school in Spain—they also handle accommodation (there are several options) but not transportation.

Oh cool.. what’s this school? Do they have a website? Are the prices reasonable? Thanks!!! 🙂

Here’s their website: http://www.dilecursos.com/fr/

DILE Spanish courses in Salamanca, which is also a gorgeous and very lively city. The school is reliable and friendly. The facilities are great too. The teachers are competent. There are a maximum of 8 students per class. The prices depend on the number of hours you take per day. Starting from **240 €** for 2 weeks with 3 hours per day, Monday to Friday. Much cheaper than private lessons in France. Plus, in Salamanca, you get the chance to practice Spanish while running errands, unlike in Barcelona where Catalan is spoken more than Spanish (Castilian).

Accommodation (arranged through them) starts at **119 €** per week with half-board in a host family or **190 €** per month for a shared room in an apartment.

Hi Kelkune, I don’t know exactly what kind of trip you’re looking for, but I know a really good organization that offers a lot of options—it’s SILC. Their website is www.silc.fr. Good luck with your search! 😉

Hi, I went to Seattle with EF Education and it was amazing—I had 3.5 hours of classes per day and then activities with young people from all over the world. There were almost no French people, so I was really immersed. I chose the on-campus option, so I ate and slept there like a real American! ;) They have tons of destinations in Europe too if you want to check it out—I think it’s ef.com Cheers!
Marjo ;)

Hi!

I’d like to go this year starting in March and until the summer, either to Spain or Italy.

I saw that in Spain, the Cervantes Institute brings together qualified schools. As for destinations, I’ve looked around a bit and concluded that Salamanca offers the best value for money (real estate is half the price of Madrid, and the Spanish is "pure"). But I’m not set yet and I’m looking for opinions from other people.

Which country are you planning to go to?

See you soon, Florent

I mentioned it a few days ago, but Salamanca is really great—beautiful living environment, great vibe, and actually very affordable rents. No bus budget needed, you can walk everywhere, and there are kind of university-style restaurants with meals at really good prices. Pure happiness!

Thanks so much, Jalan22, I really like that school! How long did you stay there? Do you think if I go for about 3 months, it’ll cost me less than 3500/4000 € all in (because I’m on a tight budget!)? Thanks to everyone else for the extra info, that’s really nice ;)

I went to Ireland for 2 weeks with CIVEL—it's an association based in Lyon that offers exchange programs, language internships, hosting foreigners, and au pair stays.

The internship I did was really great: classes in the morning and activities in the afternoon (sports, visits, excursions...).

What I loved most was how friendly the association is. They take the time to meet us and figure out what would suit us best.

I’m also planning to go on a language study trip! I looked it up online and found ESL. They sent me a really detailed brochure! It looks pretty good! :)

Hey everyone,

Just posting here to say that since I want to go on a language study trip to the US this summer, I’ve decided to start a little blog to share how I’m going about it—hopefully to help others who might be tempted to try the experience this year or whenever!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them on my blog! 🙂

Hi Kelkune, Yes, several friends and family have gone on language study trips in Europe, and their experiences vary a lot depending on the organization. Many choose big agencies like EF, ESL, or Kaplan, but the feedback is sometimes mixed: groups are too large, too many French speakers, little real support, etc. If you really want to improve your English (or another language), the most important thing is to have good supervision and, above all, not to stay stuck in a "French bubble." For that, it’s better to aim for more demanding programs that offer more personalized formats. I can recommend checking out OISE. It’s not necessarily the most well-known option for the general public, but they focus specifically on intensive programs, in small groups or even one-on-one. It’s really geared toward progress, not just language tourism. They have schools in England, Ireland, and elsewhere in Europe. The vibe is truly immersive and serious—definitely a good option if you want real value for your investment, especially for a stay of a few weeks to a few months. Good luck with your search! !
