Has anyone here had experience using a gas stove in Sardinia and Sicily? I’m wondering if screw-on gas canisters (not the blue Campingaz ones, but brands like Coleman, Primus, etc.) are easy to find.

Hi, I’m planning a bike trip in Italy starting from Pisa to Cinque Terre and I’m looking for a company to transport two suitcases. The suitcases are picked up in the morning at our hotel and dropped off at the next hotel along our route. I’m looking for something like *La Malle Postale* in France, which some people use on the Camino de Santiago. Thanks for your feedback!

We’re back from our 6-day bike trip between Innsbruck and Venice from June 30 to July 6, 2019, on the well-marked Munich-Venice route.Our overall impressions: the route is really beautiful, especially for us during the first three stages: Gries am Brenner (AT) to Mühlbach or Rio di Pusteria (IT) – towns with dual names – Rio di Pusteria to Toblach or Dobbiaco – a town we really loved – and Dobbiaco to Pieve di Cadore.
The passage through the Dolomites on a path that’s half paved, half white gravel road is absolutely stunning, even if it’s quite a climb.😊
We chose accommodations in hostels, and luckily so, since there weren’t many campsites along the way. There were a few cyclists, but not too many. We had great weather, even very hot on the last stage from Treviso to Mestre. The arrival in Mestre isn’t very well signposted – several directions overlap and don’t lead you straight to Mestre. Once you find the right route, though, it’s pretty easy. We had a paper guide and GPS, which helped a lot. If you need info on the route, we can chat about it! Happy travels
Excellent bike path almost entirely off-road, with a really scenic route. We joined it in Bad Tölz after coming from Strasbourg and left it 100 km before Venice to stay in the mountains and connect with the end of the Via Claudia, which is probably on next year’s program. The trail is often on packed gravel, but even though some short sections aren’t great, our 32C tires were enough—though wider would’ve been better. Mostly wild camping, often by a lake or river. The signage is top-notch. The only downside is the noise from cars in some valleys—out of sight but not out of earshot.

With summer just around the corner, I’m looking for ideas for organized bike trips in France or Italy. I’m pretty used to traveling independently, but this time I’d like to try something more structured—either in a small group or with minimal logistics (accommodations booked, luggage transport, etc.).
I’m open to different difficulty levels, as long as the setting is pleasant (countryside, seaside, well-known routes, or even a bit more off-the-beaten-path). If you’ve already tried this kind of trip or have good recommendations for agencies or providers, I’d love to hear them!

Who among you has explored northern Italy along the Mediterranean, in Liguria?
I’m dreaming of cycling there from Nice, crossing through villages like Menton, Ventimiglia, Dolceacqua, Apricale, Monte Ceppo, Triora, Ponte di Nava, Ormea, Garessio, Ceva, Mondovì, and Cuneo.
Beyond that, it’s the route toward Queyras in France via the Col dell’Agnello, on the slopes of Monte Viso.
A few questions for those who know the area: Is it interesting by bike? Is the road surface decent? Is car traffic low, or at least manageable?
We had this plan back in 2009 as part of a Nice-Rome crossing, but we ended up doing it differently. I might get to revisit it this summer (solo this time, not on a tandem like we usually do).

Hi there,
A year ago, I posted looking for a cycling route for a trip in Sicily with my partner and our two kids (3 and 4 years old) in a trailer—something calm, with nature and a bit of culture. I didn’t get many replies, so I’m sharing our itinerary, which we really enjoyed. We cycled from the southeast (Syracuse) to the northwest (Palermo).
**Note:** We had no issues on the road—drivers were very courteous, the welcome was exceptional (lots of invitations to eat and/or stay overnight), and there were very few people on the roads, even the big ones, since we were there from September 23 to October 7.
**Weather:** Apparently, the summer of 2014 had been awful (only 25°C...). We, on the other hand, had 3 days at 44°C—it was *brutal*, including one day at 35°C at 1,000m altitude in the center of the island on October 1st...
**Accommodation:** 15 days of wild camping, with just one really nice apartment after 7 days in Piazza Armerina. Wild camping was tough—rocky, dusty, hard to pitch tent stakes. Our tent got pierced by thorns (even the groundsheet) from one side to the other. We washed up at village fountains, and—let’s be honest—less often than we’d have liked. The kids’ clothes, which spent a lot of time on the ground, were pretty grimy since laundry was rare. Only one official campsite (otherwise, they’re all on the beaches): Da Vinci Camping, in the middle of lemon groves near the southeast (Rosolini). It’s well-known on social media for being very "roots."
**Water:** A real challenge—*very* tough. Off-season, many homes are abandoned, and on some days, we passed through few villages. Result: we always carried our max water (9L) and sometimes had to add extra bottles to last 2 days, covering the day’s ride, wild camping, and the next morning—that’s 15L on the bikes. So be careful with this!
**Itinerary**
We arrived by train in Messina from southern Italy (yes, the train goes onto the ferry—worth seeing!), then took the train to Syracuse. We decided the northeast coast was too dangerous to cycle, so we visited Syracuse and then picked the SP roads (the smallest ones, more or less following the coast) toward Noto. We were supposed to head southeast to Pachino, but since our ferry from Palermo was booked 15 days later, we cut the route short and headed toward Rosolini instead. Nothing exceptional until Modica, crossing the Ispica fault. Modica is a really pretty town to see. Then Ragusa’s old town via the SS 115—a quiet but very scenic road. The town is stunning, but getting through the modern part (Ragusa Alta) means 300–400m of elevation gain... Caltagirone: a lovely town (famous for ceramics), but the center is uphill. We took a bigger road, but there was hardly anyone around. Left via Mirabella, then visited Piazza Armerina and the Villa Romana. Took the SP 15 to Barrafranca, Pietraperzia, then Caltanissetta via the SP96 (choose carefully—there’s a bigger road nearby).
Then Serradifalco, Mussomeli (castle), San Giovanni Gemini—a series of hilltop villages with valleys in between. We climbed and descended 500m+ repeatedly. Santo Stefano Quisquina, Prizzi (passing at 1,000m altitude—really nice, no one around). Corleone (great road, some climbing, but it’s awesome); Ficuzza, Santa Cristina Gela, Altofonte, and Palermo (no traffic issues).
**Reminder:** This was off-season—no one on the roads. We found the route through Caltanissetta, Mussomeli, etc., *spectacular* and sometimes breathtaking. Sicily is a rugged place for rugged people (especially wild camping). We’d heard the center of Sicily was overrated (not at all...). After 4 months of traveling without always listening to others’ opinions, we confirm: central Sicily is amazing—rugged, dramatic, and perfect for what we were looking for (though we didn’t swim).
**Elevation:** People kept saying Sicily was a nightmare for climbing. We’ve done much tougher routes in the Black Forest or Slovenia. The tricky part in central Sicily is the constant ups and downs—you climb 300–600m in one go, then descend right after. We used "Ride with GPS" to test different routes and avoid unnecessary descents (or minimize them). With a few extra kilometers, we saved about 2,000m of elevation gain overall, especially around Caltanissetta, the Modica-Ragusa link, arriving in Modica, and leaving Ragusa.

Malgré cette période délicate pour voyager, nous partons vers les Dolomites. Nous avons réservé un studio à Perlado. Nous aimerions avoir quelques conseils pour circuler, apparemment, les parkings sont rares dans cette ville...La circulation compliquée...Peut-être circuler à vélo est plus facile? Faire le tour du lac à vélo? Quels circuits conseiller à un très bon cycliste, habitué aux reliefs montagneux? Les promenades en bateau, sur les lacs, semblent sympathiques...Les villas à visiter aussi...Et les îles Boromée...Si vous connaissez un peu les lieux, je suis preneuse de conseils... Y a t-il beaucoup de monde, là bas, malgré le corona virus? Nous partons lundi 17 aôut...C'est proche!

J'ai pour projet d'aller a Turin en vélo en partant d'Avignon en Avril, de la je pense aller sur Gap ou Embrun et monter jusqu'à Briançon, mais pour traverser les Alpes j'ai aucune idée des itinéraires conseillés, je suis assez limité dans le temps ( 6 jours ) donc je ne voudrai pas m'attarder, le plus rapide sera le mieux.
Je suis ouvert a vos conseils quel qu’il soit.

Je prépare petit à petit un voyage Belgique - Athènes pour cet été 2020. L'aller à vélo mais le retour en bateaux et en train.
Ne sachant évidemment pas le jour exact de mon arrivée en Grèce, je ne peux pas réserver le bateau (Patras - Venise) à l'avance. Je souhaiterais donc savoir s'il était possible de prendre le bateau vers l'Italie sans réservation au préalable.
Il est fort probable que certains d'entre-vous ont vécu pareille situation ?

Nous envisageons (3 adultes) de parcourir la partie cycliste de la via francigena jusqu'à Rome et, pour ce faire, de partir du col du grand saint Bernard. Avez-vous une idée de la date a partir de laquelle le col et la route qui part du col sont praticables ? A priori nous pensons à un départ début mai ; une pure absurdité ? Bonjour, je suis en train de préparer un itinéraire pour me rendre dans les Balkans depuis Lyon en mars. L'idée est d'alterner le train sur certains tronçons et le vélo sur d'autres. Je pense faire Lyon-Domodossola (Nord de l’Italie juste après le Somport) en train puis la région des lacs en vélo, (lac Maggiore, lac de Côme, lac de Garde). Y a t'il un itinéraire qui peut relier ces lacs sans descendre trop au sud dans les villes et sans aller trop au Nord en altitude (on sera encore en mars) en vélo par des routes tranquilles ou des voies cyclables. Je souhaite partir de Grenoble et traverser l'Italie du nord au sud en suivant si possible le littoral, gènes, Rome , Naples et traverser en Sicile par Messine, puis traverser et remonter la Sardaigne et hop la corse( pour la corse je connais 🙂 et Grenoble. Tout ça en en autonomie partielle, principalement en tente...
Quid du camping sauvage pour la nuit? trouve t on facilement des campings, des gîtes ou auberges???
Je compte réaliser ce périple sur environ 5 à 6 semaines, oui je sais c'est sport, mais c'est un de mes objectifs, à voir???

J'ai déjà tracé le parcours jusqu'au lac de Côme en Italie environ 550 km de pistes cyclables Allemande et suisse .En revanche ça se complique une fois arrivé en Italie, je trouve très peu ou presque pas de piste cyclable et j'ai un peu de mal à me retrouver dans la nomenclature des routes et leurs fréquentation automobile . Si vous avez des conseils à me donner pour rouler le plus au vert possible .
J'ai vu aussi qu'il y avait l'Euro vélo route 5 qui pourrait faire l'affaire , mais sur le site, le tracé Italien est donné comme en cours de construction.Avez-vous des infos sur l'avancement des travaux?

Comment revenir de Vérone vers la france sans risque ? Rejoindre la via francigena (voie vélo) vers Plaisance serait une possibilité. Comment rejoindre cette voie ?

En ce mois de novembre ou le vélo est moins présent pour moi, j'ai enfin trouvé le temps de mettre les photos de mes trois voyages de cette année en diaporamas.
La Loire à vélo en avril, Les grands lacs italiens et les Dolomites en juin et enfin la côte nord de la France en juillet.

j'aimerai envisager le circuit suivant pour 2020 :
Besançon – Bâle – Passau par EV6
Passau – Salzbourg (il semble qu'il y ait une piste cyclable) à confirmer.
Salzbourg – Udine par « Alpe Adria »
Udine – Turin *
Turin -France **
* il y aurait semble t-il une piste cyclable ? (voir plan ci-dessous....Bi12 http://www.bicitalia.org/it/bicitalia/gli-itinerari-bicitalia/137-bi12-ciclovia-pedemontana-alpina ) ou faut-il rattraper l'EV8 ?
** de Turin comment regagner la france ? Par monaco ? (col à franchir?) ou autre possibilité ? - toujours à vélo.
*** existe t-il un autre trajet/boucle ? Peut-être par la suisse ?

Nous arrivons à Rome le 14 mai prochain et aimerions savoir s'il est possible de rejoindre la gare de Rome à Vélo. Nous voyageons uniquement à vélo et souhaitons entrer à Rome à Velo sans prendre le train ou autre moyen de transport.

Bonjour à tous,
Nous rentrons tout juste d'un périple en famille (avec nos 2 enfants de 9 et 11 ans) de 650 kms au départ d'Autriche jusqu'en Croatie.
Nous avons commencé le parcours à Toblach sur la Drau Radweg jusqu'à Villach avant de rejoindre Grado sur la côte Adriatique. Nous avons ensuite pris le ferry pour Trieste pour terminer notre parcours sur la Parenzana jusqu'à Porec.
L'itinéraire est très roulant, bien balisé jusqu'à Grado. Sur la Parenzana, cela se complique un peu avec davantage de côtes, des chemins de pierre mais en prenant son temps, cela se fait.
Je prévois de faire un blog dans les prochaines semaines mais en attentant, si vous avez des questions, n'hésitez pas, le parcours est encore très présent dans ma tête.

A notre 4e mois en tandem depuis avril (bientôt 6,000 km parcourus et 55,000 mètres d'ascension), nous sommes actuellement en Slovénie et nous nous dirigeons vers 2 cols alpins que je rêve depuis longtemps de grimper à vélo: - En Slovénie, La traversée du parc national de Triglav par le col de Vrsic
- En Italie, Le Col Stelvio, dans les Dolomites
Plus précisément en Italie, j'ai planifié les étapes suivantes (nous roulons sur un tandem de route avec bagages, environs 50 kgs). - Bolzamo à Dimaro (environs 68 km) - Dimaro à Pezzo (environs 43 km) - Pezzo à Niblogo / Bormio (environs 49 km ET - Bromio à Prato allo Stelvio (environs 47 km), par les SS38 puis SS40)
Question: Sur cette dernière section qui se veut être "Paso di Stelvio", y a t-il des restrictions quant à son passage à vélo (notamment sur les heures de passage permises à vélo, ou encore sur des tunnels qui pourraient ne pas être autorisés à vélo?
