Introduction to Brantôme in the Périgord
In 2016, the municipality of Brantôme merged with that of Saint-Julien de Bourdeilles to form the new municipality of Brantôme en Périgord. Located north of Périgueux, the former Brantôme offers a very beautiful town centre along a river (the Dronne), notably featuring the imposing Saint-Pierre Abbey.

Brantôme
Tourist interest in the new municipality is concentrated in the centre of old Brantôme, around the river. Besides the abbey, the heart of the town is home to several old houses, some dating back to the Middle Ages, as well as a large garden (the "Monks' Garden"), which originated in the 16th century.

Partially hidden by the abbey, these are the remains of Brantôme’s first Benedictine monastery (8th century), carved into the cliff. In the "Last Judgment" cave, you can see two monumental bas-reliefs.
