Geography and Environment of Tunisia
Location Map of Tunisia
Country Overview
Natural Regions

There are around fifteen national parks and as many nature reserves in the country. Among the most "interesting" natural sites for tourism are:
In the north
- Chambi National Park: a large high-altitude park near the Algerian border.
- Ichkeul National Park: located near Bizerte, this UNESCO-listed site consists of marshes, a lake, and small mountains that are home to many bird species.
In the south
- Chott el-Jerid: Tunisia’s most famous *chott* (a saltwater expanse in the desert). Visitors come for its landscapes and the surrounding oases (Nefta, Tozeur, etc.).
- Selja Gorge: a stunning canyon north of Chott el-Jerid, best explored aboard the *Lézard Rouge*, a tourist train departing from Metlaoui.
- Great Eastern Erg: the Saharan region of Tunisia, known for its dunes and oases. It has become a major tourist destination.
- Jbil National Park: the largest Tunisian park, southeast of Chott el-Jerid. It features a mix of vast dunes and rocky formations, home to gazelles, fennecs, and numerous bird species.
- Sidi Toui National Park: a beautiful blend of dunes and steppes near the Libyan border.
