Getting Around Essaouira
FR

Getting Your Bearings

Essaouira is a relatively small city where it’s easy to find your way around, or at least to locate the main points of interest: the port, the medina, and the beach.

Transport

Car

As in many towns, a car isn’t really the best way to get around Essaouira, especially in the city and medina where traffic is theoretically banned. It’s best to leave your vehicle in one of the parking lots near the centre; the most convenient are the one near the port and Moulay Hassan Square, and the one at Bab Marrakech facing the medina. Essaouira has three or four car rental agencies.

Public Transport

Taxis

Urban taxis remain affordable as long as you negotiate the fare beforehand. Expect to pay the equivalent of 1 € to 2 € for a trip within the centre.

Two Wheels

This is an option with the few bike rental shops in the city. Beyond getting around the urban centre, cycling can also be a way to explore the surrounding area.

On Foot

By far the best way to get around. The distances between points of interest are short, so walking is the best way to discover the city.
