Often overlooked by foreign tourists, North Carolina offers plenty of attractions. It starts with its lovely coastline, featuring beaches like those of the Crystal Coast or the Outer Banks islands, which draw crowds in the summer. Additionally, cities like Wilmington, Asheville, and Winston-Salem reveal some beautiful historical landmarks. But North Carolina is above all about nature and outdoor activities in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which, with over 9 million visitors a year, is the most visited park in the country and is also a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Beaches and Coastline
This is one of the state’s key tourist draws, with beautiful beaches and activities concentrated along the few dozen kilometers of the Crystal Coast or in the long chain of small islands to the north of North Carolina known as the Outer Banks. The agenda includes beaches, fishing, diving, surfing, and other water activities in a stunning environment. This means crowds in the summer, though it’s possible to find quieter spots elsewhere along the state’s 800 km of coastline.
Nature and Outdoor Activities
While the Atlantic coastline offers a beautiful setting and plenty of activities, the interior—especially the western part of the state—is just as impressive. Here, the Appalachian Mountains can exceed 2,000 meters, with numerous national and state parks perfect for nature and adventure lovers. Just with the Blue Ridge Parkway or the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, visitors can hike for hundreds of kilometers, ski, raft, canoe, and enjoy many other outdoor activities.
