Sleeping and eating in Essaouira
Location Map of Essaouira
Accommodation
Essaouira is a tourist town with a wide range of hotels, guesthouses, riads, and even campsites. Touts often approach customers at the bus stations. The only downside is that during high season or the Gnaoua Festival (late June), prices tend to rise, and finding a room isn’t always easy. However, Essaouira is increasing its accommodation capacity with the Mogador-Essaouira resort just a few kilometres from the city.
Hotels and riads
Generally, smaller establishments and riads are located in the medina, while more upscale hotels are outside or on the outskirts of the city.
Camping
There are several campsites, more or less well-equipped, on the outskirts of the city. However, it’s recommended to have your own transport if you plan to stay there.
Other accommodation
Villas and apartments are also available in Essaouira. This is a good option if you’re travelling in a group and planning to stay for several days.
Food
No problem finding somewhere to eat. From small local eateries to more upscale or touristy spots, there’s something for every taste and budget. However, places serving alcohol are relatively few.
Where to eat?
There are roughly three areas for dining in Essaouira:
- The port: Here, you can eat fresh fish caught on the spot in small open-air stalls.
- The city centre and medina: A wide variety of options in all categories and price ranges.
- Along the beach: A few more upscale or touristy establishments.
