Ensuite, quand tu arrives à l'aéroport, tu vas au comptoir "Direct Road" (en espérant que la file soit moins longue....😛).
J'ai fait la partie internet et je testerai le 5 aout le comptoir "Direct Road" à Las Vegas, car je ne l'ai pas encore utilisé. Donc, le feed back à mon retour...

Le problème, ce n'est pas le temps que toi tu mets à remplir les infos (ils ont déjà tout, et la résa est déjà faite !), mais les gens devant qui eux, prennent leur temps et n'ont pas déjà fait toutes les démarches ! 😛 En 2 minutes, c'était bouclé pour nous !
Maintenant, si cette option "direct road" permet d'aller aux automates, complètement désertés, c'est tout bon ! Pour le reste, je n'ai pas vu de guichet "direct road" à LA, mais peut-être que c'était inscrit au-dessus des automates, justement.

Bonjour Virginath et bravo pour ton post très complet et tes commentaires qui permettront sans doute aux prochains partants de se faire une idée précise de ce qui les attends.
En ce qui concerne Lower Antelope j'ai vécu la même triste expérience en ce qui concerne l'acceuil et le déroulement de la visite.
Une jeune femme nous a guidé, gentiment certe, mais aucune explication donnée et pas moyen de lui faire desserer les dents.
Le joueurs (gratteurs) de guitare étaient là également lors de notre passage en juin 😎
Je regrette pour toi le mauvais temps connu à Bryce car sur ton parcours c'était un des Musts.
Bonne récupération, perso il m'a fallu 1 semaine cette fois ci.

Je vois que ça s'est bien passé pour toi! Nous, on a eu pratiquement que du beau temps, même à Bryce! Il fallait venir le 4 juillet, on a eu droit à un beau feu d'artifice 😛
Concernant Alamo, la prochaine fois je choisirai la concurrence 😉, on verra si c'est pareil. Leur service après vente n'est vraiment pas à la hauteur... Déçu de chez déçu! 😕

Je vois que tu as été déçue par le Ruby's Inn. C'est aléatoire, car moi j'ai eu une trés belle chambre dans le bâtiment principal, juste à côté de la piscine. Seul bémol, le prix du repas et ils ajoutent délibérement 15% de TIP à la note... Je n'aime pas être forcé 😕
Ah oui, je ne le regrette pas un seul instant. Mon mari aussi était bluffé. C'est fou comme cette région est riche. J'ai adoré. Il faudra absolument que tu y ailles !
Et le Ruby's Inn, tu en as pensé quoi toi ? (PS : je viens de voir ta réponse... Comme quoi, c'est très aléatoire !) J'y suis passée avant toi en fait ! Vu le mauvais temps qu'on avait, je me demandais si c'était pareil pour toi du côté de Monument Valley, mais Bryce est tellement en altitude que c'est un microclimat !

Sur la route du chemin de Bryce on a eu un orage, mais ensuite il a fait beau jusqu'au départ! A Monument Valley nous avons eu du beau temps aussi, mais on voyait qu'il y avait des nuages orageux plus au Nord!
Pour la voiture, en fait on a crevé à Monument Valley 🤪 ... Un caillou pointu est rentré dans le pneu, il me semble que les pneus des voitures américaines ne sont pas trés costauds, en témoigne le nombre de pneus éclatés vu sur les routes, et le nombre de gens changeant leur roue sur le bord des routes... Au Goulding's ils ont eu la gentillesse d'accepter de téléphoner pour nous au service Alamo (on avait pris l'assurance crevaison et bris de glace). Déjà, 20 minutes d'attente avant de les avoir... Ensuite, après des pourparlers, ils veulent nous envoyer à Flagstaff qui n'est pas du tout sur notre route! Finalement, ils nous disent qu'à Page il y a un Firestone (agrée Alamo) qui nous changera le pneu gratuitement. Le lendemain, arrivée à Page, avec l'adresse du supposé Firestone. Arrivée à destination, le Firestone en question n'existe pas!!! Merci Alamo!!! 😠 Bon je reconnais qu'on n'avait en théorie pas le droit de prendre des chemins en terre...
On se renseigne dans un magasin, on nous dit qu'il n'y a pas de Firestone à Page 😕. On nous envoie donc ailleurs, chez un garagiste qui nous change la roue pour 153 dollars. Il téléphone à Alamo pour leur expliquer la situation, c'est bon, on a juste à avancer l'argent, et Alamo nous remboursera...
Quand on a rendu la voiture à Vegas, la femme était aussi aimable qu'une porte de prison... En plus elle parlait dans un anglais incompréhensible, vite et un accent ou je ne saisissais aucun mot! Le mec qui a inspecté notre voiture nous a dit que tout était ok, et qu'on devait placer le GPS dans une boîte spéciale, ce qu'on a fait. Quand on est passé au comptoir, cette mégère nous a demandé où était le GPS, d'un ton agressif, supposait-elle qu'on l'avait volé? Tiens en parlant du GPS, pas mis à jour depuis 2005!! Incapable de trouver un simple Mac Do, une station essence... 🤪
Cette histoire nous a fait perdre une journée! 😠 Sur un voyage de 18 jours ça fait beaucoup.
Bref, Alamo, pas à jour du tout, qui t'envoient à de fausses adresses!! 0 pointé! La prochaine fois je choisirai Avis ou Hertz...
Effectivement, j'ai trouvé moi aussi que l'on voyait énormément de pneus crevés sur les bas-côtés. Et nous avons croisé au moins 5 RV ayant éclaté un pneu 🤪
Vu ta mésaventure, quand je pense aux pistes que nous avons faites, j'en ai des frissons. La première (Notom Road), j'ai eu peur de crever, mais comme tout se passait bien, je me suis dit qu'après tout, un 4x4, c'était fait pour ça ! J'étais donc plus relax. A noter, il me semble, qu'on n'a pas le droit de faire du hors piste, mais qu'on peut faire des pistes, avec une voiture de location (beaucoup de routes ne sont pas asphaltées, aux USA).
Je n'ai pas été convaincue non plus par le GPS, comme tu as pu le voir, et on n'a pas utilisé la fonction "recherche de restos". En général, ce n'est pas ça qui manque ! A Marble Canyon, mon mari a eu peur car il ne pensait pas que c'était si loin et on n'avait plus qu'un quart de plein avant le Grand Canyon. C'est une Ranger qui nous a indiqué qu'il y avait une station-service juste après le tournant ! Moi, j'avais rangé le GPS bien au fond de la boîte à gants. Pas besoin de cette bête-là hors de LA !

C'est vrai qu'à LA, le GPS a été fort utile et nous a fait gagner du temps. Pour l'essence, dès qu'on était en dessous de la moitié du réservoir nous refaisions le plein pour éviter les mésaventures, car certains endroits sont vraiment des No Man's Land sur des dizaines et des dizaines de kms!
Monument Valley et été notre seule piste et ça ne nous a pas réussi. Du coup, Valley Of The Gods prévu le lendemain a été annulé, je ne nous voyais pas faire cette piste avec la roue de secours! Tu as eu de la chance de faire plein de pistes, car en quelque sorte c'est sortir un peu des sentiers battus!
Enfin, plein... plus que ce que j'avais prévu en tout cas. 😛
Notom Road, Shafer Trail, Onion Creek (sans le vouloir 😇) et Monument Valley. Et c'est vrai que c'était bien sympa.

Très agréable, cette rapide galerie photo.
Quel dommage que vous ayez subit ce ciel grisâtre autour de Bryce, puis sur la BW 12... De fait, on comprend bien l'aspect sauvage du rodéo, en regardant les drapeaux tendus par le vent.😉
En revanche, très très beau ciel lors du couchant à MV, et de jolis cadrages, tout comme à Dead Horse point !
J'ai aussi remarqué votre profond respect pour la mémoire des insectes suicidaires 😛. C'est touchant....😎 😎 😎
On avait beau nettoyer le pare-brise (j'avais acheté une super peau de chamoix !), les traces de bestioles revenaient aussi vite ! J'ai souvent pensé à toi et à madame qui scrute la trace qui tue !

Je compatis avec ta mésaventure, laquelle m'a rappelé des souvenirs. 😉
Je remarque tout de même que l'assistance d'Alamo t'indique au moins des adresses de vendeurs de pneus, ce que ne daignait pas faire celle d'un autre loueur testé à l'automne dernier.😕
Pneu déchiré (donc irréparable) alors que Mme était calmement au volant sur une unpaved road à vitesse plus que règlementaire (la toute fin d'Hole in the Rock Road), après que Monsieur ait joyeusement fait mumuse des jours durant avec le SUV sur des terrains autrement plus agressifs, mais aussi à des allures moins....sages.
Donc faute d'assistance, ce fut dans un premier temps sauts de puce de garage en garages au gré des recommandations
des mécaniciens, puis annuaire et téléphone pour consulter plus aisément les dépositaires possibles, et enfin, une fois obtenu confirmation que même les revendeurs Bridge#### étaient dépourvus de cette qualité de gomme dans cette dimension (pneu non distribué sur le marché de la 2ème monte 😮), nouvel appel à l'assistance d'Advantage.
Solution proposée après ces 250 km à silloner le sud Utah à la recherche de ce fichu 245*60*17 : aller changer de véhicule à Salt-Lake City Airport (soit 420 km sur la galette.....🤪🤪🤪🤪 laquelle se dégrade au fil des miles, même à 55 mph🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️).
Si tu as loupé Valley of the Gods, nous avons en revanche dû renoncer à Cottonwood Road, perdu une grosse journée, mais nous avons découvert à faible allure l'I-15 et ses jolis paysages, découvert le plaisir de manger en roulant, puis eu un aperçu de SLC, et avons été toujours accueillis avec le sourire 😛 par le loueur.
Bref, juste une péripétie de vacances.......
Je ne sais pas ce qu'il vaut mieux, pas d'adresse du tout ou une fausse adresse donnée 😏
En tout cas je compatis aussi à ta mésaventure, je précise également que je roulais à vitesse réglementaire dans Monument Valley quand c'est arrivé! J'ai juste roulé sur un mauvais caillou... Mais je ne me voyais pas aller jusqu'à Flagstaff pour changer de véhicule alors qu'on allait au contraire du côté de Page...
Tu as eu du courage de rouler jusqu'à Salt Lake à 55mph, m'enfin tu n'avais pas trop le choix!
Quelle chance d'avoir pu décrocher un sourire! En ce qui nous concerne le séjour a été souriant sauf à Best Western Sunset Plaza à LA où les tenants étaient un peu coincés, à Monument Valley hormis à l'accueil du Goulding's où ils étaient sympas et souriants (bon il parait que c'est dans l'esprit là bas de tirer la gueule 😄 ) et enfin à Alamo lorqu'on a rendu la voiture.
Comme tu dis ce sont des péripéties du voyage et il n'y a pas eu mort d'hommes, c'est le principal! 🙂
Virginath, j'ai consulté tes photos et je les ai trouvées très réussies !!
J'ai vu notamment que vous êtes allés au Red Cliffs Lodge de Moab. Je vais y passer une nuit au mois d'août et je voulais avoir ton avis.. En fait, nous voulions réserver 3 nuits dans un B&B mais seulement 2 nuits étaient disponibles. Nous avons donc complété notre séjour à Moab avec une nuit au Red Cliffs Lodge...
Nous n'y avons pas logé. J'en avais l'intention, mais au départ, on ne passait qu'une seule nuit à Moab, et on faisait un forcing pour tout voir. On n'aurait donc pas profité d'un si bel hôtel. Je me suis donc rabattue sur le Inca Inn, nettement plus raisonnable et plus proche du centre. Finalement, on est resté 2 nuits et j'ai conservé le Inca Inn.
Le décor dans lequel se site le Red Cliff est absolument superbe, comme tu as pu le voir sur les photos. Il est cependant très isolé de la ville. Il faut une petite demi-heure pour y accéder. Tout dépend donc si vous avez l'intention de sortir de l'hôtel ou pas. Le resto est bien situé, avec la vue que tu vois sur les photos. Je n'ai pas vu les chambres. La réception est OK, avec un petit magasin de souvenirs et de chips/barres chocolatées etc. Leur musée du cinéma est sympa aussi. Cela fait plutôt ranch qu'hôtel. Pas mal de poussière qui vole.

concernant Alamo, je ne peux que confirmer. A Grand Canyon Sud, même un membre de l
équipe du camp, donc parlant parfaitement américain, a été incapable de leur faire comprendre où envoyer un dépanneur. J ai du me débrouiller seul et leur ai présenté la facture en arrivant.
L'isolement du Red Cliffs Lodge ne nous fait pas peur puisque ce sera notre 3ème et dernière nuit à Moab...au contraire, ça nous permettra de faire un petit break sympa avant de repartir "on the road" !!

Le nouveau Best Western en face est un 4* et les prix aussi (on avait demandé le prix au Ruby's Inn mais je n'ai plus le prix en tête, sauf que c'était trop cher pour nous !)...
OUF : Je ne vais pas au Ruby's.
Par contre j'ai réservé au Bryce view lodge (11 août), qui semble être en face du Ruby's, mias ce n'est pas annoncé comme un BW à 4*.
J'ai une chambre quadruple pour 69e - 96$ (le Ruby's me demandait 106e - 148$) - On verra 😐😐
Attention, ne pas confondre le Bryce view lodge en face du Ruby's et le Bryce Canyon lodge dans le parc lui-même 😉
Comme dit plus haut, faut essayer de ne pas s'emmêler les pinceaux avec tous ces noms d'hôtel qui se ressemblent ! 😉
Le nouveau Best Western (annoncé 4* par la personne qui nous a reçu au Ruby's Inn) est le "Best Western Bryce Canyon Grand Hotel" (http://www.brycecanyongrand.com/)... ouvert depuis mai 2009 (travaux en cours autour lors de notre passage en mai).
Le BW Ruby's Inn et le Bryce view lodge (et même le Bryce Canyon Lodge dans le parc) sont des 2* apparement...

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.
We found Emmanuelle and Isabelle, and wow, they were fantastic. It was just the two of us with them, so it was a truly VIP, ultra-personalized experience. They treated us like royalty from start to finish. These two live in Las Vegas and know the region like the back of their hand. The service was really personalized. They adapted to our pace and preferences, and we could stop whenever we wanted to take photos. It’s the luxury of being in a small private group—you’re not just a number on a big bus.
In short, we really felt like we were traveling with friends rather than professional guides. Everything’s included in the price (hotel pickup, meals, park entries, etc.), so the value for money is fair.
We loved it so much that we’re already planning to come back next year to explore other areas with them. I think we’ve caught the American West bug—it’s all we can think about, and we can’t wait to return.
