600 euros c'est : le salaire d'un prof du Lycée Français en contrat local travaillant à temps plein 3 fois le salaire d'un prof de l'Université de Pondichéry 4 fois le salaire d'un ingénieur du ministère des Travaux Publics de Pondichéry 6, 5 fois le salaire d'un gardien du Consulat de France 15 fois le salaire indien moyen
En vivant modestement (selon nos critères occidentaux) à trois, cela est donc possible. Il faudra se déplacer davantage à pied, à vélo, ou en bus, qu'en rickshaw ou en taxi, et faire davantage les courses au marché qu'au supermarché.
L'ambiance est très paisible par rapport à une ville indienne ordinaire. C'est un peu la sous-préfecture de province, avec le charme de l'architecture coloniale, et une présence française et occidentale relativement importante. Vous pourrez même fêter le 11 novembre et le 14 juillet. 😏

Je vie en Inde depuis 2002, très exactement à Pondicherry, il faut relativiser les choses. Pour 200€ (+- 11000 Rs) vous ne trouverez pas de logement convenable, a moins d'accepter un confort dés plus rudimentaire, la proximité des temples (ce qui veux dire de la musique à fort décibel toute la journée et meme la nuit ou tot le matin: ex 4h) une rue très passante. Et je ne parle pas des pétards, des mariages et des bandes de chiens hèrrants qui aboits la nuit.
600€ à trois c'est très juste pour un Européen.

Budget! je vais vous donner des indications: l'avion le moins cher Srilanka Airlines avec +- 2h d'arrét à Colombo. Lycée Français (4800 Rs mensuel) équivaut à habiter la ville blanche, loyer minimum 15000/20000 Rs (55 Rs= 1€) encore faut'il trouver du disponible!
électricité 500 Rs par mois, eau 150 Rs tous les 3 mois, ADSL de 1800 Rs à 3000 Rs par mois, télévision satellite 300 Rs par mois.
Tomates 10 Rs le kg, poulet 120 Rs le kg, pomme de terre 7 Rs le kg, le boeuf (quid) 110 Rs le kg, le mouton 165 Rs le kg, les pates 65 Rs les 500 gr, la biere 41 Rs la bouteille de 65 cl, le wyski de 120 à 1450 Rs, cela dépant de vos gouts, mais je déconseille de descendre en dessous de 800 Rs.
Pas de plage à Pondicherry, budget piscine 1500 Rs par mois.

En général, les gens commencent par arriver à Pondy, à passer un certain temps dans une guesthouse, le temps de trouver ce qui vous convient.
Rien de tel que de demander à un membre du forum qui en a fait l'expérience cette année, et pour qui 500 euros de loyer par mois est une somme exorbitante à Pondy, j'ai nommé Abystrale, que vous pouvez joindre de ma part en message privé.
Mes amis pondichériens m'ont tous certifié eux aussi que 200 euros suffisaient à trouver quelque chose de très correct hors de la Ville Blanche, et parfois même en son sein. Ensuite, tout dépend de vos exigences de confort.
Si toutefois vous souhaitez vivre à deux pas du Consulat Général de France, de l'Ashram de Sri Aurobindo, et du temple de Ganesh, contactez un membre qui a une maison de deux étages à louer dans ce secteur prestigieux de la ville, à un prix élevé pour Pondy mais dérisoire pour un Français: Lakshmiganes.
Bangalore est une ville très chère en plein boom économique (Silicone Valley indienne) où un revenu 3 fois supérieur au salaire moyen indien suffit à peine à se débrouiller.

Voyant certaines réactions à mes messages, je me permets d'insister sur une chose que j'ai déjà écrite, peut-être pas de façon assez évidente pour certains: avec votre budget de 600 euros pour trois, location comprise, il vous faudra vivre à l'indienne, c'est à dire fort modestement selon nos critères. J'ajoute que vous n'aurez certainement pas de climatisation.
Certains blancs sont incapables de supporter de telles conditions de vie.
J'ai complètement oublié un détail très important: à Pondichéry, quand loue quelquechose, il n'est pas rare que le propriétaire exige 6 mois de caution (au lieu de deux comme chez nous)... 😕

Si c'est le cas, pour vivre correctement, d'après ce que m'ont dit les expatriés vivant à Pondy, tu ne pourras louer qu'un appartement sans climatisation, et tu devras te priver de voiture personelle. Il ne sera pas possible de rentrer fréquemment en France. Il vaudra mieux manger à l'indienne qu'à l'Européenne.

After living for many years in the West (Belgium, Italy, Switzerland),
I’ve decided to return and settle in Cameroon, my home country.
