First names on flight tickets

Hi there, I bought a flight ticket with Turkish Airlines to Vietnam. On the form, it said: first name then second name, which I did. However, my passport has 3 first names. I called a number in Paris, and they played it safe by repeating: the names must match exactly what’s on your passport. I’ve seen on forums that some say even one first name is enough… Do you know about this situation? Thanks everyone.

Hello,

As far as I’m concerned, I have three first names. I’ve probably taken around a thousand flights in my life—about 150 with Turkish Airlines—and I’ve never used anything other than my first name, in line with the recognized practice for French passports. That said, some destinations *can* cause issues, apparently more out of malice than actual regulations. Vietnam is one of them, though I’ve never been there myself.

In your case, if you’ve gone to the trouble of including your second first name, I don’t see how there could be a problem. Boarding passes don’t have much space, so they’ll just fit your first name and the start of your second one.

Everything will be fine—don’t worry. Never call an airline by phone; you’ll never get a relevant or intelligent answer. Worst-case scenario, they wouldn’t stop you from boarding, but you might have to pay a fee to reissue the ticket. Though I really don’t think that’ll happen—not at all.

Thanks for your reply—it reassures me. In the absolute worst-case scenario, as you mentioned, buying a new ticket would be an issue because the last-minute price definitely won’t be the same. But the main thing is being able to board.

I wouldn’t suggest buying a new ticket, in my opinion. At worst, reissue the ticket; there’s a fee for that in your fare conditions. Usually 100 or 150 €.

Besides, if anyone gives you a hard time: stay confident, calm, smile, and above all, don’t let yourself be intimidated.

True, the problems only come up when there’s a mistake in the first name or last name, or a wrong first name.

Always take the time to double-check your info and what others have written.

Hi there. I took a one-way flight Mrs/BKK with Turkish Airlines. I have three first names, but I only put two, and there was no issue. Really great airline, by the way. First time flying with them, and I’m definitely not disappointed. Safe travels!

Thanks for your reply. Turkish Airlines is indeed an excellent airline that I’ve flown with several times, but I never really thought about it because all three first names were listed.
