Accommodation tips in Rajasthan

Hi there,

From the list you provided, I can recommend a couple of places I mention (or will mention) in my current travel journal:

- Jaisalmer: Hotel Tokyo Palace, within walking distance of the fort, with some charm and comfortable rooms. They have nice suites for just 2,500 rupees (25 €) and a decent pool.

- Jodhpur: Jodhpur Heritage Haveli, an old haveli in the old town, quite close to the fort, bought and renovated by a Nepali family. It has a lot of charm, beautiful rooms with local decor and a view of the fort, plus a rooftop with a full view of the fort and city. A large room for 4 costs around 50 €.

- Udaipur: Red Pier, a hotel in the heart of the old city with quite nice rooms built around a lovely pool. I can’t remember the price, but it was probably around 40 €. That said, we had a bad experience with the reception staff who tried to scam us, so I wouldn’t really recommend it. Too bad...

For the other cities, my info is too outdated—sorry about that...

Hi Éric, My experience is from 2018, so you’ll want to double-check that it’s still current, but here’s what I enjoyed:

- Varanasi: Ganpati Guesthouse, right by the river with a stunning view and decent rooms - Agra: Coral Tree Homestay, very close to the Taj, with a lovely little garden - Gajner: Gajner Palace—gorgeous! - Fort Barli: Fort Barli Palace—a bit out of the way, but a night like a maharaja!

Thanks for these addresses—I checked the recent reviews, and they have good feedback. I’d already noted the one in Agra. As for the palaces, aside from being a bit out of the way, they’re beyond our budget since we’re traveling for 7 weeks.

We’re getting more and more doubtful about the reliability of Booking.com reviews, so we’d rather ask fellow travelers for relatively recent info on accommodations along our route.

Same here. Lots of fake reviews on Booking—better to cross-check with other sites or go with tips from travelers here ;)

Here are my recommendations so you can compare: Delhi (the hardest for us to find): Eleven Bed & Breakfast. Spotless. Agra: The Coral House Homestay (mentioned by Montagnard). Super nice! Jaipur: All Seasons Homestay. Great, classy (but a bit far from everything). Bundi: Castel View Homestay. Simple but well-located, and the hosts are really friendly. Udaipur: Udaipur Madri Haveli. The best place we stayed. Gorgeous haveli. Jodhpur: Chotaram Prajapat Homestay. Out in the countryside—we loved it! Jaisalmer: Diamond Guesthouse. Inside the fort. Simple and cozy.
