hi After reading quite a few posts and buying a guidebook, I’m still struggling to finalize my suitcase. Given that we’ll be visiting both islands during our road trip and suitcases aren’t exactly expandable, I’ve noted that temperatures can be changeable—but should I pack more winter clothes than summer ones? Thanks for your help

Hi,

During my second trip to New Zealand, I visited the South Island in October. I had 1 fleece, 2 sweaters, and the rest were T-shirts, and that was enough for me. This site has the weather for March in the country: https://partir.ouest-france.fr/meteo/nouvelle-zelande-idpaysmois-101-3.html

Thanks for the quick reply! A sweater and a puffer jacket will do the trick. If I end up buying something there, it’ll make a nice souvenir. Jm

Hi, Back in March 2016, we took waterproof over-pants, a waterproof jacket, and waterproof shoes, which we used 24/7 for 4 days, plus a down jacket that came in handy on the boat deck during the crossing and for the Milford Sound cruise. Most of the time, we were in T-shirts during the day, a fleece in the mornings and evenings, and the waterproof jacket as a windbreaker. Here’s the link to the blog we kept at the time—might be useful! https://veraphnz.blogspot.com/ Happy planning! Raphaël

Hello, Thanks for your reply—it’s reassuring about what we’ve packed! I went through your blog, and we can’t wait for the big day, even though we’ve got a long flight ahead of us. Our road trip is based on several stops in serviced apartments, and no kilometers are planned—hoping to avoid the sidewalks! Jm
