Booking Tabsa ferry from Punta Arenas

Hi,

We’ve planned our road trip in Chile, and the only thing left is to book the TABSA ferry from Punta Arenas to Puerto Williams. Problem: the ferry that leaves Punta Arenas at 1 AM isn’t available for booking, no matter the day or month. All the other departures can be booked, though. On top of that, Tabsa isn’t responding to any messages.

Does anyone know more about this?

Thanks in advance. Anne Marie

Hi there, it’s pretty well-known that the TABSA website handles overnight crossing dates really poorly. Often, the system either thinks the slot isn’t open for online sales yet or it completely glitches with the date change, blocking payment even though the ferry is officially scheduled. On top of that, TABSA’s customer service is notoriously slow (or even non-existent) by email, especially from abroad. So, either try booking a different departure, contact them by phone (or WhatsApp), or, as a last resort, buy the tickets on-site (available directly at their physical office in Punta Arenas, usually in the city center or near the dock). Just be careful—this route is in high demand with locals and freight, and buying a last-minute overnight departure without a reservation carries the risk of the boat being full.

Hi,

Back in March 2017, I used it but in the opposite direction—Puerto Williams to Punta Arenas. Following the company’s advice, I booked my ticket directly at the dock in Punta Arenas 8 or 10 days before departure, just before heading to Ushuaia. At the time, payment was cash-only, and the cheapest seats were prioritized for Puerto Williams residents. When boarding, there were still several seats available. Have you tried contacting them via the email listed on their site: reservas@tabsa.cl?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I’m trying to reach them by email. So far, the messages I’ve sent via WhatsApp haven’t gotten any response from the company. We’ll arrive in Punta Arenas on Sunday, March 14, 2026 ... for the ferry at 1 AM on Monday, March 15. That’s why I really need to book those two spots!

Following 4 ecofuel’s advice, I emailed Tabsa and—miracle!—got an immediate reply!

Here it is:

Dear, I would like to inform you that we expect to have the itineraries available by mid-December. The service is currently undergoing a tendering process, and the itineraries will be updated should we continue to operate it.

So now I just have to try my luck in December. Thanks everyone. Anne Marie
