Hi everyone,

I’ve already been to Quebec City and Montreal, so this time I’d like to return to Quebec but skip visiting those two cities and focus entirely on Gaspésie. I’ll be traveling solo from October 5th to 15th.

What do you think? Any thoughts on park closures, weather, etc.?

Thanks! :-)

Hi! You seem aware that you’ll be traveling off-season. Depending on your route, make sure to check what’s open—whether it’s accommodations, tourist spots, boat tours, etc. Pack warm clothes. Layering is key 😊. Nights will definitely be very cold. Good shoes are a must too, since you could get a lot of rain. The fall colors in the forest should be gorgeous. If I were you, I’d check out Haldimand Beach in Gaspé. It should be beautiful. Let us know once you have more details. Cheers! 😊👋

Hi, Bauhaus has already said almost everything, but I’ll add a couple of little tips!! As for the tourist season, you’re definitely arriving at the end (let’s say the first Monday in September—Labor Day here—marks the end of the summer season, and the second Monday in October—Thanksgiving—marks the end of the tourist season). Check the schedules because, for example, Bonaventure Island isn’t accessible after October 12th (I’d recommend planning your route so you can visit the island, which is home to the largest gannet colony in North America). As for the weather, yes, the nights will be chilly, but I hope you get some beautiful fall days like we can have in autumn!! One thing’s for sure—you’ll be right in the middle of the fall colors!! If you can, take a direct flight to Québec City round-trip—it’ll save you time!! Are you planning to rent a car? Happy planning!

Hi there, I love the idea, but watch the timing!

You’re arriving at the very end of tourist season, which is great because it won’t be crowded, but it’s also a bit of a gamble for fall colors (the autumn foliage often fades by early October in that area due to forest fires).

Many places (SEPAQ, campgrounds, local restaurants, hostels) officially close around Thanksgiving (the second Monday in October). Expect some trails or services to shut down during your stay.

Also, it can get pretty chilly, especially in the mornings (near 0°C or even colder in mountainous areas like Gaspésie National Park), with ocean winds that’ll mess up your hair. Pack warm layers.

The distances between villages are huge, deer/moose cross the road without warning, and cell service drops out in spots. It’s perfect for recharging, but you’ll need to plan ahead.
