Hi everyone, We’re planning a one-month trip to the Philippines for two of us, spanning April/May 2027, and we’d love your valuable advice to tell us if our itinerary is realistic or not :) Just so you know, we’re divers and want to take the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course at the start of our trip (which will take up 2 full days) so we can fully enjoy the different dive sites afterward. We also want to limit internal flights as much as possible. Here’s our itinerary: Arrive directly in Cebu Take the ferry to Bohol, head to Panglao Island Diving in Panglao (& PADI training) + visit Bohol Island for 4/5 days We’re wondering about this part of the trip because Panglao Island seems very touristy—what do you think? Would the Camotes Islands, for example, be more interesting? Take the ferry to Siquijor, stay there for 3/4 days (combined with a visit to Apo Island) From Siquijor, return to Cebu to head to Malapascua, stay there for 2/3 days Again, return to Cebu to take a flight to El Nido → So about 12 days in the Visayas Do the El Nido→Coron 3-day/2-night cruise Stay 2/3 days in Coron (combined with Apo Reef) Head to Luzon Island from Coron (by plane or ferry) Visit the Banaue Rice Terraces (if possible) for 3/4 days Return to France from Manila Thanks for your help :)

Hi, Great itinerary, but here are a few things to keep in mind: - April/May falls during school holidays, which means flights and/or boats will fill up faster than usual and may be more expensive. - Note that your 30-day visa starts the day after you arrive, and you must leave by the last day of the visa at the latest. - Visiting the rice terraces at this time isn’t a great idea—it’s not the season (December/February). - Every time you move (by plane, ferry, bus, etc.), budget at least a full day for travel. - Panglao is nice if you explore off the beaten path—like the Chocolate Hills at dawn or in the evening, not in the middle of the day with all the tourists. The dinner cruise on the river is basically the Philippine version of the Seine’s *bateaux-mouches* in Paris. Avoid the tarsier tours run by big-group guides; instead, visit the dedicated reserve (I don’t remember the name). - Siquijor is amazing—it’s magical. I’m not sure if there are direct routes from Siquijor to Apo Island. - I’m not familiar with the Camotes Islands. That’s what I can share based on my experience. Oh, and it’s better to focus on one region rather than trying to do everything in a month—it’s just not possible.

Hi,

I recently did Banaue + Siquijor + Bohol in 2 weeks. Back in April.

As mentioned elsewhere, each trip takes a full day. So with all your travel time, you’ll already lose 5 days in the Visayas, meaning you won’t have 12 days left to enjoy things...

Bohol was great. Chocolate Hills, the little cruise, the tarsiers. I had some unforgettable dives around Balicasag Islet, where I came face-to-face with the biggest sea turtles I’ve ever seen!

Siquijor was really nice—authentic, peaceful—but I’m sure it’s changed in 10 years. Rent a scooter to explore freely.

I dove at Apo Island: pretty disappointing.

The rice terraces near Banaue were muddy at that time of year, but Batad’s were stunning!

Thanks for your feedback—what do you mean by it’s not the season to visit the rice terraces?

To explore the rice terraces, you’ve got to get lost in them on foot. The best season is from December to March. Beyond that period, rain and temperature can be a factor, and there’s a risk of having to walk through mud, which isn’t ideal but still doable. Just something to keep in mind.

Just to clarify, the photo I posted above of Batad was taken in April. We did a 2-day trek without wading through mud 😉

Hello,

We’d finally like to add a stop in the Visayas 😇. We’d also like to go to Padre Burgos. So we’re wondering what order to visit these places in to minimize travel: Panglao, Bohol, Siquijor, Apo Island, Malapascua, and Padre Burgos on Leyte Island.

Thanks for your help,

And then, the rice terraces in the north or the abandoned project? I say this because it’ll end up being a lot... Just a reminder, you need to allow a full day for transfers between two places. After that, personally, I’ll let others make their suggestions since I don’t know all the spots.

No, we’re leaving the rice fields behind… For the second part of our trip, after Coron, we’ll head to Mindoro before making our way back to Manila just before returning to France.

In any case, plan to arrive the day before your international flight and spend the last night in Manila. Just to make sure you’re there for your return flight.

Make sure to arrive the day before your international flight and spend the last night in Manila. Just to be certain you’ll be there for your return flight.

Great suggestion because in July 2016, among other things, quite a few travelers missed their flight due to an incident on the runway (damaged asphalt), and flights from the provinces to Manila were delayed by 6 hours while repairs were made. For example:
