Hi everyone,

From January 1st to 4th, I’m heading to Barcelona for the first time. Beyond the tourist sites—which are going to cost me an arm and a leg!!—I’d love to spend a day off the beaten path and see some less touristy spots. What do you recommend? I’ll be getting around on foot, by metro, or possibly by train if it’s not too far. I love both nature and cultural spots. And one last thing—is Barcelona at night safe for a woman alone, or is it sketchy?

Thanks for your help! :)

Hi everyone, And one last thing, is Barcelona at night sketchy for a woman alone?

Hey, Barcelona is a relatively safe city. However, in the evening and at night, avoid the backstreets in the center, especially if they’re deserted. Also, watch out for drunk people on Plaza Real. Sticking to La Rambla is no problem at all.

hi Anne Taking the train, walking, or the metro to get off the beaten path from Barcelona isn’t something I’ve thought much about, maybe the Pedralbes Monastery? https://barcelonesite.fr/monasteriodepedralbes.html If you can, take the train to Girona— it’s a gorgeous city!! The old quarter is stunning. It only takes 58 minutes by train from Barcelona. https://www.thetrainline.com/fr/horaires-train/barcelone-a-girona

Thanks for your reply—I’m really tempted by the city of Girona. The train ride is actually pretty quick😎

Hi there, I don’t see much point in visiting this city outside the usual tourist spots. The Sagrada Familia, which is truly one-of-a-kind, is a must-see! Plus, it was only finished recently. Then there’s Park Güell to explore. And of course, La Rambla, where you can really feel the city’s pulse—it’s an institution in itself. If you insist on "going off the beaten path," you might end up seeing places that aren’t all that interesting.

Hi Mathew, Here’s my itinerary for Barcelona. Not sure if Eleane94 will be interested, but since you’re asking me... These visits were guided by my own interests. I never consider the "classic" circuits as such.

Aeronautical Cultural Centre. Sagrada Família. Barcelona Maritime Museum. Barcelona Music Museum. La Monumental Bullring. Museu del Rock. Cathedral of the Holy Cross of Barcelona. The Picasso Museum in Barcelona (if time allows). La Rambla. The Gothic Quarter.

hi there, This is a great route, but if you’ve still got time, try visiting Park Güell. It was designed by the same architect as the Sagrada Família.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’d noted it down, along with a few other spots I’ll check out while moving between my top-priority visits—the ones I mentioned.

Hello,

I spent 6 months in Barcelona in 2024. If it’s your first visit, I’d recommend checking out the Palau de la Música Catalana (it’s stunning both inside and out—I went for a Candlelight concert). I also loved the Gràcia neighborhood.

Around the city, there are quite a few places you can reach by public transport, but the one I’d really recommend is Sitges. It’s a small coastal town just 30 minutes from Barcelona, and it’s so pretty and full of charm.

Have a great trip in this amazing city! 🙂 If you have any questions, feel free to DM me or reach out on social media
