Barcelona at the end of October: what's the difference in crowds between weekends and weekdays?

Hi, I’ll be in Barcelona at the end of October. I can choose to be there over the weekend or during the week. Probably 4 nights. Is there a big difference in terms of crowds in the city and in the museums?

Little or no difference would simplify my itinerary on the way.

Thanks

Hi there,

At the end of October, there *is* a difference in crowds between weekdays and weekends, but it won’t be as noticeable as in the summer. I don’t think you need to adjust your plans because of it. There’ll be slightly more people on Saturday and Sunday, but you’ll get the vibe that comes with it 😉 However, keep in mind that on November 1st (a public holiday in Spain), the crowds might pick up again.

Thanks for your reply, Kate. I won’t be there anymore on November 1st.

crowds in the city and in the museums

Hi there,

From October 17 to November 2, 2026, it’s the All Saints’ holiday in France, and Barcelona is a very popular destination for the French during school breaks. So, expect crowds during this period—both on weekdays and weekends.

hi there in Barcelona—I went in autumn and in summer, and either way it’s a really busy city, summer or not
SI Sinforosa Veteran ·
Yeah, in big European cities there's practically no off-season anymore, and Barcelona is one of the most visited cities year-round. It's no surprise there are regular protests against mass tourism.

Hi there,

Barcelona is a busy city year-round, whether it's summer or winter. The difference between weekdays and weekends is noticeable in the streets, on the beaches, and for sightseeing. You’ll also see it reflected in some prices. So if you have the choice, try to arrive during the week if you want to avoid the crowds.

Hi,

Also try to aim for days with the fewest cruise ships—it's not easy...

Sorry for the very late reply, My itinerary will take me to Barcelona from Sunday, October 25th to Tuesday, the 27th.

Hi Stratele, don’t overload your itinerary because there’s so much to see in Barcelona. Just visiting the Sagrada Familia takes time because there are people waiting to get in. Walking down La Rambla also takes quite a while. You’ll have to make some choices because 2-3 days on site isn’t much.

Hi Stratele, don’t overpack your itinerary because there’s so much to see in Barcelona. Just visiting the Sagrada Familia takes time because there are people waiting to get in. Walking down La Rambla also takes quite a while. You’ll have to make choices because 2-3 days on-site is too short.

For me, 3 days is perfect for Barcelona. You can easily cover the old town, Las Ramblas, Montjuïc, the beach, Park Güell, La Pedrera, the port, and the Sagrada Familia without rushing. Remember to book tickets in advance (Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, La Pedrera) to skip the lines.

The metro in Barcelona is well-designed and makes it easy to get around.

As you probably read in the other thread about visiting Barcelona, my itinerary is already set and I’ve got a ticket booked for the Sagrada Família.

Aeronautical Cultural Centre. Sagrada Família. Barcelona Maritime Museum. Barcelona Music Museum. La Monumental Arena. Museu del Rock. Cathedral of the Holy Cross of Barcelona. Picasso Museum in Barcelona. (if time allows) La Rambla. The Gothic Quarter.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Leaving in 10 days for arrival in Lyon.

hi again, this program is still pretty packed. What time are you getting in? If you arrive late in the day, it’ll be tough to do much sightseeing. And don’t forget about jet lag if you’re coming from Montreal

Hi Mathiew,

I’ll be in France for a week before visiting Barcelona. I’ve estimated I’ll have enough time to do all this without rushing too much, but it’ll make for some full days. Since I’ll be staying in the city center, almost everything is within walking distance of my hotel.

At worst, if I don’t have enough time, it’ll be for another trip. I’m lucky to be able to travel often, and I’m used to leaving out a lot of sights since there’s so much to see everywhere.

have a great time in Barcelona!

Thanks, that's kind of you.

I'm leaving Barcelona today, Mathews. Yeah, the schedule was packed, but I managed to visit what I found most interesting. And I prefer having a packed schedule to wondering what I’ll go see today when I leave the hotel. All my priority visits were completed.

Here’s what I visited:

Aeronautical Cultural Centre. Very good. Sagrada Família. A marvel—I had a skip-the-line ticket. You’ve got to go once in your life.

MILITARIA Sagrada Família (vintage military items store and more). Not bad if it interests you.

Barcelona Maritime Museum. Worth seeing, superb. Palau de la Música. A beautiful discovery. La Monumental Bullring. From the outside—it was closed. Museu del Rock. I’ve seen several similar ones, but this one is very well done. La Rambla. Phew, so many people. Lots of construction and a large homeless encampment.

All these places were a 40- to 50-minute walk from my hotel. I got to explore a lot of neighborhoods on foot.

Hey, thanks for the feedback. Were there any protests?

No events at all.
