Hi everyone,

We’re planning to explore Peru’s main highlights and were wondering if anyone could share insights on the quality and comfort of overnight buses. If so, which bus company should we trust?

Thanks for your replies and suggestions

Hi there! Yes, to put your mind at ease, traveling in Peru is very comfortable—provided you choose the right companies. The road network can be winding (especially in the mountains), but the premium bus companies offer a level of comfort that’s a pleasant surprise the first time. Forget about those uncomfortable coaches; long-distance buses in Peru are often double-decker and come with several seat categories: https://www.checkmybus.fr/transport-par-bus/transportes-cruz-del-sur#:~:text=Transportes%20Cruz%20del%20Sur%20propose%20les%20classes, travailler%20ou%20vous%20d%C3%A9tendre%20pendant%20votre%20voyage.

Hi Alex, thanks for the info—it’s reassuring, especially since the distances can be long. Best regards

Most major companies offer a good level of service as long as you use the *cama* buses and first-class seats (most companies have different service levels and more or less new buses depending on the route). Travelers swear by Cruz del Sur, but Oltursa, Excluciva, or Movil often have a much better quality-to-price ratio.

That said, don’t expect to be in great shape after a 12–20-hour bus ride to start sightseeing as soon as you arrive. Plus, flight options are starting to expand again after being reduced to the bare minimum during the Covid period. It’s a bit more expensive, but it saves a lot of time (1h30 of flight for most destinations in the country vs. 15–20 hours by bus).
