Je lis depuis 15 jours pleins de blogs et autres sites sur les voyages en Malaisie ... Je me lance et me décide enfin à poster un message sur ce forum car je ne sais quoi faire et comment m'organiser tant les avis divergent d'un site à l'autre !
Alors nous allons à 3 en Malaisie pour 3 semaines et 3 jours (pleins de 3 j'avais pas remarqué:), c'est notre 1er voyage sans passer par un tour opérateur (qui s'occupe de tout et nous de rien de tout :)
Mais en lisant les commentaires des baroudeurs que vous êtes ...on a décidé de sauter le pas... tant il y a de choses à voir en Malaisie et pour dire la vérité on en a marre de suivre comme des moutons un guide et un circuit imposé !
Le problème c'est que là il faut tout préparer et penser à tout avant le jour J !
Alors je voulais savoir si vous pouviez me donner votre avis et m'aider dans la finalisation de notre circuit
On arrive à Kuala lumpur :
1er problème l'hôtel j'en ai pas encore trouvé, tous les sites se contredisent coté qualité et surtout propreté...j'ai noté le swiss in ou l'alpha genesis ...qu'en pensez vous ? si vous en avez d'autres à me proposer je suis preneuse :)
Nous comptons y rester 3 voire 4 jours histoire de se remettre du voyage et du décalage horaire... je pense que c'est suffisant pour voir chinatown, faire un tour a little india, bathu caves, Petronas towers
Une semaine à Bornéo (état de Sabah)
Direction pour Bornéo en faisait kuala lumpur-tawau en avion puis direction semporna pour une semaine : on voudrait faire notre bapteme de plongée si c'était possible dans le coin!
Sur 2- 3jours jours pour voir les iles de sibuan, sipadan et mataking. Séjourner au Dragon Inn hotel à Semporna j'ai noté que cet hotel de bien dans le coin
Semporna - Sepilok/sandakan apparement on peut y aller en taxi mais bus ? je sais pas
2 jours à sepilok : séjourner au sepilok forestedge comme on ne peut pas faire le séjour à l'uncle tan (trop dur certains sont douillets:) on va se rabattre sur un séjour à Sepilok et voir les ourang utan park
Puis direction sur kota kinabalu mais pour y faire quoi ? mont kinabalu ? en fait, on est obligé d'y aller pour reprendre avion direction kota barhu mais sur place je ne sais quoi faire et ou aller ...si vous connaissez les environs ...help me please :)

puis direction les perenthians-apparemment c'est mieu de séjourner à Kesil (+ tranquille) mais quel hotel ?
je ne sais pas si on peut aller d'une ile à l'autre facilement, car nous voulons aller à pulan redang et d'apres notre bouquin il faut aller sur kuala terranganu pour prendre la navette. Je pense qu'il doit y avoir une navette qui fait directement les deux iles non?
ensuite on redescend pour aller sur singapour si vous connaissez des coins sympas sur la cote est je suis preneuse (ça change pas:) Kuantan, l'ile Tioman, les cascades de kota tinggi ce sont les seuls lieux que j'ai retenu de mon guide mais les avis qj'ai lu sur les sites sont pas très encourageants :(

Après je me dis est ce qu'on passe pas à coté de qq chose en allant pas à Penang, cameron highlands, ou taman negara...il y a tellement de lieux à visiter que c'est dur de choisir ! et là je viens de visiter le blog de Yann (http://yannsenant.com) merci pour ce magnifique récit et ces superbes photos.... mais à cause de toi je me pose encore plus de questions sur mon circuit :)
Alors si y'en a qui peuvent m'aider, comme on dit l'expérience de certains enrichisse les autres ! et les guides du routards et cie je trouve q c'est pas si objectif que ça

Bon, le suiss in, j'y ai sejourné. C'est un bon hotel, dans china town, mais les prix peuvent varier du simple au double en fonction de la saison. A mon avis, tu peux voir ce que tu as prévu à Kuala en 2 jours.
A semporna, le dragon in est d'un bon rapport qualité/prix. Cela dit, à part plonger, il me semble qu'il n'y a pas grand chose à faire par la-bas.
Tu peux prendre le bus pour Sepilok sans problème. Là, dommage pour l'oncle tan, c'est vraiment mieux que le centre de reabilitation.
Tu peux, ensuite, aller au mont kinabalu pour son ascention. Il y a aussi un beau parc. A Kota kinabalu, il y a les iles du tunku abdul ramane park, à +/- un quart d'heure de bateau.
Aux Perenthians, j'étais au D' lagoon sur kecil. Tranquile. Si tu y vas, ne manques pas d'aller te baigner avec un masque à la petite plage sur l'autre cote de l'ile, à dix minutes à pieds, vers 7h le matin. Grosse surprise!
A ma conaissance, il n'y a pas de liaison Perenthian/ Redang mais ça à pu changer.
Kuantan, pas grand chose(mais je n'y ai passé que deux jours), tioman est sympa, une jolie ile couverte de foret.
A singapour, je logeais à johore baru, juste devant le cause way (la frontiere avec singapour) coté malais, bien moins cher que Singapour ou j'allais en bus.
Ces info datent d'il y a 4 ans ou j'ai fais tout ça plus deux, trois trucs en 3 mois.

non, non, c'est bien de faire KL en 3 ou 4 jours.
Kl en 2 jours, c'est passer à coter de tout ce qui est fascinant dans cette ville, et de jouer au touriste blasé qui ne regarde pas autour de lui. c'est comme visiter malacca en 1/2 heure, c'est faisable mais on ne voit pas grand chose quqnd même. > bon, e n'est que mon opinion à 2 cents, et je conviens qu 'il y a mille facons de visiter une ville.
Ne pas aller crapahuter dans la forêt équatoriale, quel dommage! Evoluer sur des ponts de singe, rallier en pirogue (en partie) une "plage" de galets pour aller ensuite se baigner dans l'eau fraiche, marcher dans la jungle, écouter le silence, se déplacer la nuit à la lueur des lampes...quels merveilleux souvenirs!

pour Kuala, 3 ou 4 jours sont utiles, un conseil, se loger à Chinatown (donc plutôt le swiss inn que l'allson genesis)
Penang, Kuantan : tu ne louperas pas grand choses et de toute manière le temps vous sera compter !
Limitez au maximum le séjour à Singapour (juste de assez pour passer la frontière et aller a l'aéropor) et vous pourrez ainsi vous arrêter un peu à Malacca (ou dans le Taman Negara), ou avoir une marge de manoeuvre pour ce planning bien chargé.

Il existe un hotel tres correct dont le nom m'échappe en face du Swiss Inn. Il me semble qu'il s'appelle le Chang Hotel mais je confonds peut-être... Tarifs à peu près moitié moindre que le Swiss et confort plus que correct.
Pour se rendre à P. Perhentian depuis Khota Bahru il faut prendre le bus pour Kuala Besut (2h).
Attention aux temps de trajets, transferts et autres navettes. Il arrive que les iles soient inaccessibles pendant qq jours. Les gares et débarcadères sont souvent très excentrés, voire dans un bourg voisin de la ville principale.

Nous avons séjourné au Swiss Inn et nous y retournons cette année. Si vous êtes trois, ils ont des chambres triples assez simpas. La particularité de cet hôtel est d'être en plein coeur de Chinatown.
Concernant le sabah, c'est vrai, c'est dommage de ne pas faire uncle tan !!!!
Pour ce qui est du dragon inn, c'est un hôtel sympa que l'on apprécie encore plus lorsque l'on vient de chez uncle tan !!!

Puisque vous allez à Bornéo, je vous conseille vivement d'aller dans le sud au Sarawak où Kuching est une des villes les plus agréables d'Asie. Passer 2 jours (1 nuit) au parc national de bako est une super expérience. Passer une semaine à Bornéo est bcp trop court. Il faut choisir. Dites vous que peut-être vous n'y reviendrez jamais plus et en 8 jours on ne voit rien. Laissez pour une autre fois la Malaisie et concentrez vous sur Bornéo. J'en ai un super souvenir. La nature y est époustouflante, les arbres, les animaux tout est fantastique. Un autre avis personnel : Malacca qui pour moi était mythique m'a énormément déçu. Je ne le conseille pas.

Sinon je me remet sur notre circuit je n'ai malheureusement pas eu le temps de m'en occuper et je crois que là, on va vraiment avoir un problème pour nos réservations ....vu qu'on s'y prend un peu à la dernière minute ...quand je vois que certains ont déjà tous bouclé!
Suite à vos différents commentaires, j'ai modifié le circuit qui était finalement très ambitieu pour 3 semaines et demi ...du coup on a allégé le parcours et on s'est basé sur un circuit qui serait plus axé à la découverte des iles malaisiennes (sipadan et cie, les perenthians; tioman), à cela on a rajouté sepilok et singapour + kuala lumpur la ville d'arrivée
Je mettais fais un circuit et poisseuse comme je suis en voulant réserver les vols internes il y a deux minutes je me suis rendue compte que les aéroports de sandakan ou tawau n'était pas bien desservi par airasia.... rebelotte je dois tout changer
Petite question mon urgence aujourd'hui ce sont les hotels comment avez vous fait ? vous les avez réservé en avance pour chaque étape de votre parcours ou seulement quelque uns ? au début je voulais réserver que celui de kuala lumpur mais je me suis rendue compte que les hotels que j'ai ciblé à semporna (dragon hill)+ sepilok (foresdege) sont des hotels qui sont pris d'assaut
Alors finalement je pense aussi réserver d'ore et déjà nos chambres pour ne pas avoir de mauvaise suprise mais je ne sais pas via quel site passé il y en a tant !
Quelqu'un connait le Mohsin Chalet dans les perenthians ... c'est le seul hotel que j'ai trouvé ayant un bon rapport qualité/prix
Et le Citrus hotel à Kuala Lumpur, j'ai vu les photos ça a l'air très sympa comme hotel mais j'ai vu des commentaires négatifs notamment vis à vis du personnel (je m'en fous un peu si la standardiste n'est pas souriante:) mais coté propreté c'est toujours du 10/10 ...quelqu'un aurait séjourné la bas? Sinon c est le Swiss in ou j'irai mais j'ai lu de très mauvais commentaires coté propreté et je commence à douter sur l'état de l'hotel surtout qu'on va y rester 4jours
Autre question un peu bête : on a des escales d'une journée à dubai, on nous a confirmé qu'on pouvait sortir de l'hotel par contre on se demandait comment ca se passait quand on change d'avion lors d'une escale ...on récupère nos valises? comme c est la 1ere fois qu'on prend des longs courriers, je savais pas comment ca se passait

Je suis allé 2 ans de suite aux Mohsin Chalets au cours de mes 2 voyages en Malaisie.
J'en ai été très satisfait : la plus belle vue sur Long Beach, les chalets sont sympas, le confort est correct et le resto a, là encore, la plus belle vue sur les Perhentian. De plus, il est très bon et la serveuse est pas mal... 😎
Sur mon blog, tu as des photos des hébergements et même la carte des prix, c'est pas beau ça?!

Nous avons passé en famille un peu plus de 2 semaines avec comme programme Hanoi 5 jours
Baie d'Halong 3 jours et 2 nuits
Tam coc 3 jours
Mai Chau 2 jours
Sapa 3 jours
Vélos , scooters, grab et bus pour les déplacements.
Hébergements principaux en homestay et hôtels sur Hanoi.
Nombreux musées , temples et quartiers sur Hanoi visités
Trek de 2 jours et 1 nuit sur Sapa avec May de la minorité Hmong en direct et sans agence .
Plusieurs petits regrets , temps couvert et pas de possibilité d'aller au Fansipan mais rien de grave 😉, pas pu trouver de transport pour rejoindre Mu Cang Chai de Sapa .
À part cela , ce voyage restera gravé dans nos mémoires pour la gentillesse des vietnamiens , les rencontres faites , la nourriture ( rue , homestays...) , les cafés 😋, les paysages , la facilité pour se déplacer ....
Notre volonté était de prendre notre temps et de nous consacrer uniquement à une petite partie du Nord Vietnam.

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.
