Nous partons 15j en californie fin octobre - début novembre et notre plus grande interrogation est la suivante :
La cote entre san-francisco et los angeles vaut-elle le coup à cette periode ou est-il préférable de privilegier l'interieur des terres? quelle est la météo sur la cote?
En effet, nous hésitons entre 2 itinéraires principaux :
Itinéraire 1:
Arrivée à los angeles
Los angeles (2j)
Las vegas (2j)
Grand canyon + retour las vegas (2j)
Death valley (1j)
King's canyon (1j)
Yosemite (1j)
San francisco (2j)
Cote entre san francisco et los angeles (3j)
Départ de los angeles
Avantages: Permet de voir les villes, les parcs et la cote
Inconvenient: risque d'etre trés serré au niveau timing
Questions:
Va t-on vraiment profiter de la cote a cette periode?
Y a t-il des arrets à supprimer ou à ajouter?
Itinéraire 2:
Meme itinéraire mais sans la cote (pour l'avion, on aurait donc : arrivée à los angeles et départ de san francisco)
Avantage : permet d avoir un rythme moins soutenu et de peut etre mieux profiter de chaque endroit
Inconvenient: pas de cote 😕
je ne sais pas si tes billets sont reservés et définitifs, mas la bonne astuce pour éviter ce genre de probleme est d'arriver à LA et de répartir de San Francisco !
Personnellement, je ne sacrifierai par (toute) la côte. Ensuite, 2 jours LA permettent effectivement d'avoir un apercu de la ville. Vegas en 2 jours c'est largement suffisant pour en profiter. Death Valley en 1 jour me parait etre limité, mais le parc n'est pas immense. Tout dépend si tu as prevu de marcher un peu. Un jour à Yosemite est vraiment tres juste, encore une fois tout dépend si tu veux faire un peu de rando ou juste voir Yosemite Valley. 2 jours à San Francisco, c'est bien et c'est la meilleure facon de vouloir y retourner ;) Enfin 3 jours entre LA et San Francisco par la route 1, c'est a mon avis trop.
En resumé, ton voyage sera de toute facon speed qu'elle que soit l'option. Mais tu vas te régaler !

Que pensez vous de king's canyon? ça vaut le détour?
Sinon le fait d'arriver à LA, de remonter la coté jusqu'à SF, de faire qq parcs, puis LV et grand canyon et reprendre l'avion depuis las vegas peut etre pas mal...
Je pense que l'élément determinant est la météo habituelle sur la cote entre LA et SF? Habituellement, quelle est la température moyenne?
Nous on prend le risque pour taiga road et c'est pour ça qu'on tourne de L.A vers San Francisco en premier, afin de mettre toutes les chances de notre côté.
Ces dernières années, la taiga road à fermé fin nov, debut décembre, donc on y croit très fort.

En fait, je crois que tu voulais parler de la route qui emprunte le Tioga Pass ( 3030 m ), donc Tioga Road . Nous y passerons en ce qui nous concerne le 21 septembre prochain, en principe avant la neige ...
C' est vrai que tous ces noms ne se retiennent pas toujours facilement, mais je trouve que c' était bien + problématique avec les noms de lieux maoris en Nouvelle-Zélande .

Les 3.4 million d'âcres de Death Valley en font le plus grand parc des États-Unis (Denali excepté). Cinq fois plus grand que son voisin californien Yosemite.
Oui, je suis absolument certain d'y etre passé 😎 Nous avons passé de mémoire deux nuits dans le parc. Quand je dis qu'il n'est pas immense, c'est qui est possible d'avoir un tres bon apercu du parc sur deux jours pleins. Nous avons fait Zabriskie Point à l'aube, les dunes, le point le plus bas et ceci avec pas mal de rando. C'est vrai que la superficie du parc est immense, mais il reste possible d'en avoir un tres bon apercu sur 2 jours, contrairement à d'autres parcs tres étendus comme Yellowstone, Yosemite ou Sequoia.
Nous avons également eu le plaisir de croiser un "road runner" à l'aube!

Personnellement, je ne supprimerais pas la côte. Même si vous ne pouvez pas vous baigner, la côte vaut la peine d'être vue. Je priviligierais Santa Barbara pour un éventuel arrêt.

Votre itinéraire a l'air pas mal. C'est vrai que ça m'embete un peu de passer à coté de bryce canyon.
En revanche: san diego -grand canyon, ça me parait etre une grosse étape...
Wow ! Très bel itinéraire. Mais il est certain de mon côté que je n'éliminerais pas la Côte (route 1). C'est vraiment sublime... je l'ai fait dans les deux sens et je l'ai adorée... Bizarrement, je te dirais que j'ai davantage apprécié du Sud au Nord que du Nord au Sud. L'aperçu est vraiment différent.
N'hésite surtout pas si tu as besoin d'aide dans la conception de ton voyage, je pourrais t'aider avec plaisir et te faire parvenir quelques photos !
Pour ce qui est de ton itinéraire, je l'ai survolé à nouveau et je le trouve parfait ! Tu as fait du beau travail !
As-tu déjà trouvé tes vols, voiture et hôtel ? La seule petite chose, tout dépendant du tarif journalier de la voiture, pourquoi ne prends-tu pas la voiture seulement à la fin de ton escapade à Los Angeles. Car la majorité des endroits que tu mentionnes sont facilement accessible par métro ou autobus. Je prendrais donc la voiture à partir du jour 4. Et autre conseil, surveille bien la qualité de tes pneus avant de quitter car la première fois que j'ai loué une voiture en Californie, les pneus étaient extrêmement usés (j'imagine que la plupart des voitures louées en Californie font extrêmement beaucoup de route en raison des attractions dans les autres états américains environnants, donc très accessibles mais tout de même loin. Donc, on avait eu une crevaison près de Monterey la première fois (d'autant plus qu'en bord de route sur la 1), on sort souvent de la route pour aller prendre des photos dans les endroits prévus à cet effet, donc, des fois, c'est risqué de prendre de la vitre, etc.
Et aussi, toujours prendre note qu'il y a souvent beaucoup de congestion en Californie (et ce, même en plein après-midi)... C'est à noté dans le calcul des délais de voyagement. Je suggère aussi la location d'une décapotable. Ça en vaut vraiment le coup ! Peut-être justement que si tu économises tes 3 premiers jours de location, peut-être pourrais-tu te permettre ce petit luxe ??!!
Pour Las Vegas par contre, je mettrais deux jours si tu comptes prendre 1 journée entière pour Grand Canyon. J'ai aussi fait le Grand Canyon et ça nous a pris une journée. Et ensuite, je compterais 1 autre journée pour marcher sur la Strip de long en large, les hôtels sont de vraies attractions et leur visite sont très intéressante. De plus, il y a tout plein de petits spectacles gratuits. Tu pourrais ainsi te permettre d'ajouter si le budget le permet un spectacle du Cirque du Soleil... Wow !
2 jours à San Francisco me semble parfait. Tu devras bien cibler tes attractions, mais ça me semble parfait... D'autant plus que tu auras la voiture pour explorer les coins un peu plus reculés.
Pour ce qui est de ta descente sur la route 1, je te suggère fortement d'allonger ton temps un peu. Car, admettons que tu fait un mapquest entre Monterey et Big Sur, ça te dit 1 heure... mais sache et je te le promets, que tu voudras arrêter à tous les 4 minutes pour prendre des photos et quelques pauses... Il y a plusieurs petites sections en bord de route pour t'arrêter et admirer les paysages... Donc, je suis certaine que tu prendras plus qu'une heure. Simplement pour t'aviser... ;o)

Pour répondre à ta question l'étape SD >>GC est très longue effectivement. Nous souhaitons prendre la route par Anza Borego / salton sea et remonter ensuite par lake Havasu; je pense que nous nous arrêterons vers Needles pour dormir ou un peu plus loin ( on verra ... on se laisse un peu de liberté ) c'est une des plus grosses étapes du voyage.
Pour l'itinéraire, ce qu'il serait possible de faire est de le faire en sens inverse et de repartir de las vegas. ça permet de ne pas se faire la roure las vegas -LA. Qu'en pensez-vous?
Ensuite pour la location de voiture, je suis vraiment pour louer un cabrioler. En revanche, je ne trouve pas de compagnie où on peut vraiment choisir le modèle 🤪 . auriez-vous des conseils?
Le truc, c'est que tu n'as pas de compagnie qui vol en direct entre Vegas et la France, hors charter. Donc tu auras mécaniquement une connexion, soit vers la côte Ouest (LA, San Francisco pour Air France), soit vers l'Est (exemple Atlanta, Cincinatti pour Air France/Delta). Prends ce parametre en compte, car une connexion au retour, c'est souvent du temps perdu sur le voyage !
Concernant la voiture, les "convertible" sont disponible uniquement dans certaines stations chez les loueurs. Demande un devis pour ce type de véhicule (dispo vraissemblablement à LA et Las Vegas). Si tu veux vraiment un cabrio, assures toi de reserver cette classe.

Circuit classique : arrivée à Calgary, Banff, Jasper, Clearwater, Whistler, île de Vancouver, départ de Vancouver.
Je sais que vous ne lisez pas plus que moi dans la boule de cristal, aussi je ne vous demande évidemment pas quelle sera la situation au niveau des incendies dans un mois...
Mais si certains d'entre vous pouvaient me dire si, ACTUELLEMENT, il y a de grosses difficultés, non seulement pour les habitants, évidemment, mais pour les touristes ?

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.

Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?
Are there any other must-see spots or things we shouldn’t miss?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.
Thanks for advising me on the booking—should I reserve a room in the hotel or go for a cabin for the best view?

Travelers to the United States | Photo Now Mandatory Upon Entry and Exit | La Presse
I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!
