bravo pour l’itinéraire choisi pour ton 1er voyage aux Philippines. Les rizières en terrasses de la région de Banaue seront à jamais gravées dans ta mémoire car la majesté de l’endroit est unique.
J’ai lu également tous les posts sur les Philippines et j’aimerais décrire un endroit que Boqi a qualifié de glauquissime : Puerto Galera. Je respecte son avis mais je ne le partage pas.
C’est une station balnéaire proche de Manille et facile d’accès qui propose une large gamme d’activités allant du farniente sur de belles plages à la plongée, au snorkeling, à toutes les activités aquatiques, et à la randonnée.
Il y a plus d’une quinzaine de plages avec des resorts ( large gamme de prix ) constitués de bungalows. Certains établissements sont en pleine nature sur des positions uniques avec une vue magnifique et un calme olympien.
Certes, la plage de Sabang est animée le soir. Quelques ( 3 ou 4 ) bars et boites drainent les amateurs de vie nocturne, mais rien ni personne n’oblige à la fréquenter.
A côté de cela, il y a TOUTES les autres plages, une quinzaine, où calme et quiétude règnent dans une ambiance décontractée à l’ombre des cocotiers.....paradisiaque !
En dehors des semaines de Pâques et de Noël, Il n’y a jamais de foules de touristes envahissant l’endroit. On a souvent l’impression d’être seul sur la plage.
A 2h30 de bus et 1h30 de bateau de Manille, la destination est commode et pour quelques jours de décompression est tout à fait recommandable. J’y suis allé 7 ou 8 fois, entre 2 et 4 jours, séjournant dans des établissements différents et j’y retournerai volontiers.
Le site travelpuertogalera.com décrit le lieu avec cartes et photos et indique les modalités d’accès et de séjour.

Je pense alors faire un tour sur cette plage bien glauque😛 qui sera dans tout les cas bienvenue apres les grattes ciel de shanghai et ces eaux marrons (attention shanghai est une super ville a voir aussi) et il vaut mieux commencer doucement pour s en mettre plein les yeux ... au fur et a mesure du voyage!

Nous recherchons + d'info à ce sujet : Qui à t'il a voir sur ce trajet ? Nous comptons louer un véhicule avec chauffeur.
Eventuellement retour de Legaspy en Avion à moins qu'un autre ittiléraire intéressant est possible au retour ???
Ensuite Bulacan et quelques jours de repos dans la famille de mon épouse.
Puis ton ittinéraire suivit d'une visite de quelques iles (2 semaines) mais lequels ???

Chocolat Hills sont sur l'ile de Bohol (Voir CEBU) un peu loin par rapport aux rizières surtout si tu n'y restes que 12 à 15 jours. (Voir site de Loic : www.loic-paradise.com, il y a de magnifiques photos d'un peu partout).

un petit message pour confirmer les infos des messages precedents: Banaue et Sagada sont absolument superbes. Et ca prend bien 1 semaine pour faire le tour: les transports sont tres lents aux Philippines. Je n'aime pas trop 100 islands et ca va te prendre 2 jours pour visiter l'endroit...
Puerto Galera est un endroit sympa qui offre de multiples possibilites: plage, plongee, ballade dans la nature, vie nocturne, ... A toi de choisir. Et ce n'est qu'a 4/5 heures de Manille!
Chocolate Hills: endroit sympa egalement si tu aimes la nature mais ca fait un long voyage simplement pour l'ile de Bohol. Mieux vaut integrer la visite a une visite des visayas.
En resume, Banaue/Sagada puis Mindoro devrait remplir tes 12 jours.
Remaste, 20 ans après, je retournerai volontiers à Shanghai, mais je vais attendre l’expo universelle.
3 semaines en Chine en 1985 m’avaient éreinté. Pour mon voyage suivant, en 1987, je souhaitais un rythme plus calme et j’envisageais de retourner buller un peu du côté de Puerto Escondido au Mexique. Une relation me narre brièvement alors son voyage en Indonésie, Malaisie et Philippines.
8 jours plus tard je m’envole pour les Philippines, sans guide, sans carte et ne connaissant vraiment rien. Dans l’avion, un retraité, collectionneur de coquillages qui en est à son 8ème voyage !? ( comment peut-on aller 8 fois aux Phil ?) me transmet ses infos. A l’arrivée, office du tourisme, 2 agences et mon programme est décidé : Puerto Galera, Banaue, Cebu, Bohol. En 3 semaines, j’allais découvrir des endroits superbes, une ambiance chaleureuse et un climat appréciable pour un mois de mars !
Sous le charme du pays, j’y retournerai à 15 reprises pour des séjours de 2 à 6 semaines pour y découvrir :
Banaue, Mindoro, Iloilo, Boracay et Guimaras, Negros- Bacolod et Dumaguete, Cebu, Mactan et Moalboal, Bohol et Tagbilaran, Leyte et Ormoc, Samar et Tacloban, Legaspi et le Mayon volcano, Zamboanga city, Dipolog, Cagayan de Oro, Surigao et Siargao island, Palawan nord et sud !
Sans guide ! j’utilise tous les moyens de transport, séjourne en pension-houses, hôtels, bungalows et prend le temps de respirer, contempler, partager et apprécier sans incidents notables, ni mésaventures. En arrivant la chaleur, les prostituese, les travelots et le tout dans du rap tappageur c est un peu impressionnant mais c est delirant et puis avec la chaleur etouffante un grand sourrire et une joie sont arrives tout de suite en me disant: ca y est c est le voyqge!! YES!
je suis partis le lendemain soir apres avoir visite un max la ville et apres avoir rencontre pas mal de monde tant etranger que du pays pour banaue puis direct sur bontoc pour sagada.
ha les tranports... plutot bons d ailleurs.
delire de se percher sur les toit de jeeps mais aussi des bus.
j a rencontre un francais et on a fait un trek de trois jours depuis bontoc une petite ville bien sympas au passage.
j ai zape les noms des villages visitees mais c etait trop bien de voir ces gents coupes de tout avec ces petites vieilles au tatouages impressionnants, des gamins de partout dans un carde... mes amis je ne vous dit meme pas!
on a delire dans une belle cascade entoure de gosses. on passait bien pour des betes de zoo et ca me faisait delirer!
sinon apres je suis retourne sur banaue ou pour la petit histoire j ai failli prendre un plomb dans la tete. j ai pas trop compris c est arrive de nul part et j ai vu personne; mais bon, j ai rien eu.
apres j ai enchaine le bus pour manila la terrible et suis arrive vers 2h du mat. la direct aeroport pour un avion pour caticlan. puis un p tit tour a boracay.
la plage est surpeuplee et les hotels trop cher genre 600 ps en discutant.
j ai zone et ai trouve par une petite echoppe toute degluingue qui m a adresse a ses voisins une maison ou la famille etait en train de faire des chambres pour les louees pour un mois et plus.
au final ils etaient geniaux et j ai vecu avec eu a faire ma bouffe mon marche ma lessive pour 300ps... en haute saison.
et puis il y avait des ingenieurs qui realisaient un cottage qui etait aussi la depuis quelques temps. j ai delire avec eux, trop gentil trop cool les mecs, on a fait un anni d un d entre eux.
vive la cuisine philippinaise, un pur delice.
pour l ile il faut aller a cupa shell beach trop beau, personne trop super.
sinon y en a plein d autres de plages sans personne si ce n est des win surfer bien relax aussi.
j ai loue un bateau aussi pour faire le tour de l ile et faire un peu de snorkeling, franchement a faire!
apres 3 jour la bas, j ai eu bien le boulles de repartir et de laisser la famille et les ingenieurs.
je suis alle a iloilo pour prendre un ferry pour cebu puis bohol mais la plus aucun place donc j ai migre direct sur guimaras une ile qu touche presque iloilo et que les phillipinos m avaient conseilles.

des gerantes trop superdans un cadre unique, foret luxuriantes, vue sur la mer comme jamais avce piscine source naturel hamac... pour 300ps la maisonnette, que dire de plus... dans tout les cs y avait pas de dortoires et en plus les qutres hotel... bonjour le prix!
j ai loue une moto et ai trippe toute la journee . une americaine rencontree au passage etait la depuis un certain temps et m a indique les truc cool a faire, et effectivement, trop class!
puis je voulais alle au nord de l ile.... j y suis alle sauf que la police de la bas m a arrete.../ sans papiers (rien du tout c est a dire pas de passeport pas de carte d identite pas de papier de vehicule pas d assurence pas de permis... rien)
et aussi sans casque...
les cons de M... ils n ont pas voulu de backshish... ils opnt fait leur show car y avait les locaux, ils ont pris la plaque d immatriculation et m ont foutu 910ps dans le nez.... je devait aller au poste et aussi y retourner deux ou trois jour plus tard avec le proprio pour arrager tout ca... mais deux ou trois jours plus tard et bien je devait etre a manila!
resultat, je me suis arranger avec le proprio je lui ai file 500 pesos pour la moto et 200 pesos pour qu il se demerde.
il ma dit aucun soucis
je suis donc repartis
ai bien galere pour retourner sur caticlan

marche puis jeepney puis bateau puis velo puis jeepney puis van pour je sais plus ou puis van again pour caticlan puis boat et enfin me revoila dans la famille avec une anglaise que j avai rencontre d ailleurs juste avant.

et le lendemain derniers plouf et accrobaties sur la plage et direction aeroport pour manila.
la j avai rencontrer un jeune femme de voyage forum qui bosse pour un super assoc, vraiment chouette action qu ils font tout et ont a passe la soiree la bas avec plein de monde perdu dans manila a parler et boire... a 6h30 je me suis decider a partir pour recuperer mes staff laisse a l hotel prendre une ennnnormmmee douche zoom pour l aeroport.

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. What do the experts here think? And which website can we use to book the tickets? Thanks in advance for your tips!

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.

• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?

August 7: Tana Toraja to Tentena + visit Tentena
August 8: Early departure with a private driver to Ampana, then ferry to the Togian Islands
August 9–15: Togian Islands (2 different resorts)
August 15: Depart Togian Islands for Luwuk
August 16: Flight Luwuk to Makassar
August 17: Rammang Rammang
August 18: Stroll in Makassar, then return home

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...

Family of 4—2 adults and 2 kids (11 and 15) who are well-traveled.
We’re planning a 15-day trip to Indonesia and would love your thoughts on our itinerary.
We love discovering local culture, food (!!), seeing beautiful landscapes, and keeping an active pace. We’re not the type to lounge on the beach for 5 hours or spend ages by the pool when we’re halfway across the world. Also, we try to avoid places "ruined" by mass tourism (like Holbox in Mexico, which we loved 10 years ago but not at all on our last visit, or Phi Phi in Thailand, completely destroyed by mass tourism).
Special note: we love traveling by train :)

We’ve just started planning our family trip to Vietnam this coming August. We’d like to travel from North to South, starting in Hanoi and ending in Ho Chi Minh.
Usually, we rent a car when we arrive and manage on our own. But I get the feeling that in Vietnam, it’s more complicated... It seems like the only option we have is to rent a car with a driver? Is that really the case?
I’m thinking of starting with a cruise in Halong Bay since we arrive on my partner’s birthday, and I wanted a beautiful setting to celebrate it. So, is the option of having a driver wait for 2 days while we’re on the cruise really feasible?
The rest of the itinerary isn’t planned at all yet. I’d love to hear your tips. We’re traveling from August 8th (morning) to the 26th (afternoon).
