Vous m'avez déjà aidé à créer mon circuit dans les parcs et je vous en remercie.
Je me pose la question concernant notamment les assurances voyages, voitures ...
De nombreux sujets ont déjà répondu à ces questions mais ils ne datent pas d'hier et ce qui est important à mes yeux est de savoir si vous avez eu un soucis, est ce que vous avez été satisfait ?
* Assurance voyage : Billets d'avion acheté avec ma carte visa classique = rien hormis je crois une assistance rapatriement ?
Ayant choisi des billets modifiables et remboursables, je me demande à qui m'adresser pour une assurance car je n'ai pas besoin d'une garantie annulation des billets ou du voyage ?
Mondial Assistance me demande presque 500 euros pour 4 !
Avec vos liens mis dans les précédents posts j'ai trouvé 200 euros avec le routard et 200 euros aussi avec l'assurance April.
Que pensez vous de ces assurances ? si vous les avez utilisées bien sur. Pourquoi une telle différence de tarif ?
Je souhaite juste être assurée pour mes bagages et pour les frais médicaux si un de nous 4 avait un souci de santé là bas (les frais médicaux étant hors de prix aux USA).
* Assurance voiture : J'ai également lu vos conseils et il me semble que Autoescape est pas mal (c'est ce que vous en disiez dans des posts de 2008 et 2009) ; êtes vous toujours d'accord ?
Je paierai ma voiture avec ma Visa PREMIER (que j'aurai dans quelques jours). Assurances Visa Premier + contrat Autoescape vous paraient suffisant ?

J'ai consulté les multiples messages concernant ce sujet, suis allée sur les sites mentionnés mais ... aucun n'assureur ne couvre les frais médicaux à hauteur de 1 000 000 $ comme vous le conseillez.

Le prix oscille, pour 4, entre 120 et 450 euros ....
As tu contacté ton/tes assureurs pour savoir déjà ce que tu as comme couverture médicale du fait de tes contrats pour ta maison, ta voiture, ton assurance perso et famille ?
Généralement avec tout contrat d'assurance de base voiture/habitation on bénéficie d'une assurance type Mondial/Europe/.... Assistance qui couvre certains choses.

M'est avis que tu as mis la charrue avant les boeufs 😉: fallait utiliser la Visa Premier pour les billets d'avion 😛
Pour les éventuels frais médicaux, c'est en principe inclus dans Visa Premier.... mais si l'affaire est sérieuse (ce que personne ne te souhaite...) on te rapatrie au lieu de te soigner là-bas... ça coute moins cher !!
Pour ce qui est des assurances voiture de loc, il est vrai que les suppléments indispensables (CDW et surtout LIS, resp. civile) sont inclus dans les devis des courtiers tels que Autoescape, ce qui rend la Premier "doublon" ! De toute façon l'assurance responsabilité civile n'est JAMAIS incluse dans les CB Gold.
A noter que en 2010 (2 locations USA) j'avais trouvé locationdevoiture.fr pas mal moins cher que Autoescape auquel je m'adressais avant cela !
Si vous ne réussissez jamais rien du premier coup, n'essayez pas le parachutisme !
J'ai regardé mes assurances : mon assurance voiture me couvrent pour les frais médicaux à hauteur de 4000 euros ; une misère quoi !
Je n'ai rien vu au niveau de ma multi risque habitation. Pour la visa premier, je ne savais pas .... je l'aurai dans quelques jours et l'utiliserai pour payer la voiture de location, ce qui me couvrira un peu je pense (j'irai relire les garanties).
Pour l'assurance voiture, j'ai bien lu vos posts en faisant "'rechercher" et je pense parvenir, en plus de ce que vous venez de me dire dans vos messages, à trouver la bonne formule pour être bien couverte.
Ce que je ne comprends pas, c'est qu'après épluchage des assurances, je trouve des prix très différents pour des couvertures à peu près identique :
* Mondial Assistance (celle que vous recommandez en majorité sur ce site) ne couvre les frais médicaux qu'à hauteur de 150 000 euros pour la modique somme de 500 euros (pour 4 personnes pour 17 jours de vacances).
* AVI (pour routard voyages), pour 300 000 euros de soins médicaux ne coûte plus que 170 euros environ !!!!
Tout cela est bien compliqué !
Certes, en partant en voyage, il ne faut pas penser au pire mais s'il advenait, je ne voudrais pas, en plus d'avoir un voyage gâché me retrouver sur la paille en devant payer des sommes faramineuses pour des soins médicaux.
Aussi, si vous avez quelconque conseil à me donner, un nom d'assurance qui vous a bien couvert si vous avez eu un soucis, s'il vous plait, donner moi juste son nom.
Ayant 2 filles asthmatiques légères, mais asthmatiques quand même, je voudrais pouvoir partir tranquille en me disant que si un aérosol ou plusieurs ou si une courte hospitalisation arrivait, que je n'ai pas de soucis supplémentaires ... vous comprendrez mon inquiétude je pense !
.......perso, à part l'assurance annulation sur les billets d'avion, je ne prends aucune autre assurance........
.....je loue généralemnt avec Autoscape, je n'accepte de payer en + au moment de prendre la voiture que le supplément "retour reservoir vide", c'est tout..........
.........pour les petits bobos, on trouve facilement des pharmacies (souvent ouverte 24/24) avec plein de médocs vendus sans ordonnance.........
Il te faut prendre une assurance voyage pour les Etats-Unis qui te couvre tes frais médicaux correctement avec des garanties élevées car la sécurité sociale ne te prend pas en charge, la carte bancaire très peu d'après ce que j'ai lu et les frais médicaux sont très élevés. Tu trouveras plein d'infos sur le sujet http://www.europusa.com/pourquoi-et-comment-choisir-une-bonne-assurance-sante. Les différences de tarifs des assurances dont tu parles doit être lié aux garanties proposées, à la marque...etc.
Pour l'assurance voiture, je ne connais pas celle d'Autoescape, regarde aussi les garanties mais de toute façon, il faut que tu prennes une assurance liée à ton loueur de voiture car il n'y a pas d'assurance locale américaine qui te couvrira pour une petite période.

Je suis toute nouvelle sur ce forum, c'est mon premier post, mais votre sujet m'intéresse.
Je pars cet été pour l'ouest américain, j'ai loué la voiture avec elocationdevoitures.fr (pas cher du tout, et normalement pas de mauvaise surprise : j'ai écrit à Dollar, le loueur, et ils m'ont confirmé ma réservation).
Elocationsdevoiture couvre en cas de dommage au véhicule (responsable ou non), ou si vous blessez un tiers, mais pas si vous êtes vous-même blessée dans un accident de voiture! D'où l'intérêt d'une assurance complémentaire.
J'ai contacté Visa Premier (la carte que j'ai utilisée pour réserver la voiture), et bien relu leurs conditions générales, mais la protection personnelle en cas d'accident avec un véhicule de loc n'est pas très élévée : 40 000€ (donc le prix d'un appendicectomie aux USA! lol). Donc là encore, l'assurance complémentaire s'impose (pour les plus prudents, car je sais que ce n'est pas de l'avis de tout le monde).
J'ai vu AVI (assurance du Routard), Europe Assistance, Mondial Assistance, Mond'Assur...
Grosses déceptions :
- AVI n'a jamais répondu à mon mail pour demande d'info, et leurs conditions générales stipulent qu'ils ne couvrent pas en cas d'accident avec véhicule à moteur.
- Mondial Assistance a répondu à mon mail en me disant qu'ils ne couvraient pas les frais médicaux / hospitalisation si accident de voiture avec véhicule de location! J'étais dubitative, donc j'ai renvoyé un mail pour être sûre d'avoir bien compris, mais la conseillère me l'a confirmé 2 fois! Je précise cependant que j'ai épluché leurs conditions générales et n'ai rien trouvé de tel, mais comme la conseillère me l'a écrit par mail, je ne suis plus que croire, donc j'ai abandonné Mondial (j'avais même peur qu'ils retournent nos échanges de mails contre moi, comme une excuse pour ne pas me couvrir, en cas d'accident. Peut-être un peu parano, mais avec les assureurs, je me méfie! lol).
Selon moi, le meilleur (parmi ceux que j'ai interrogés), c'est Mond'Assur, avec leur Pack Premium. Pour 50€ (par personne, voyage de 4 semaines), ils me proposent une assurance plus intéressante que les concurrents, qui me demandaient 100 à 250€. Mond'Assur propose une couverture des frais médicaux / hospi jusqu'à 1 000 000€, contre 150 000€ généralement pour les concurrents.
Seul limite pour les voyageurs de ce forum : c'est un contrat pour les moins de 35 ans. Mais peut-être ont-ils d'autres offres intéressantes?! L'assureur, derrière, c'est Chartis (car Mond'Assur n'est que courtier).
Je ne sais pas ce que cela vaudra si on a un accident, mais en tout cas pour le moment, ils répondent très vite et très précisément à tous mes mails, sans aucun forcing commercial (pas de spams, pas d'appels, et les mails sont purement informatifs).
J'espère que cela pourra vous aider, car j'ai trouvé qu'il était très difficile d'avoir des infos sur les assurances voyage (entre les assureurs, les loueurs de voiture, les cartes Premier ou Gold, etc., on ne sait plus trop où on en est!).
Si votre voyage est déjà passé, pourriez-vous me dire quelle assurance vous aviez choisie?

Je sais que vous ne lisez pas plus que moi dans la boule de cristal, aussi je ne vous demande évidemment pas quelle sera la situation au niveau des incendies dans un mois...
Mais si certains d'entre vous pouvaient me dire si, ACTUELLEMENT, il y a de grosses difficultés, non seulement pour les habitants, évidemment, mais pour les touristes ?
Nous hésitons en effet à tenter le coup ou à annuler ce qui peut encore l'être.

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.
I’m currently putting together my day-by-day roadbook and having some trouble planning certain days, like in LA or Las Vegas. Choosing hikes isn’t easy either—it’s tough to decide!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.

I’m planning a week-long family trip to NYC in October 2026. The focus is on museums and soaking up the New York vibe. I’ve been checking Airbnb, but the prices in Manhattan are through the roof. Since I don’t know NYC well, is it "wise" to look outside Manhattan? Any neighborhoods you’d recommend?

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

I’m planning a week in S.F. in April 2026 and I can’t figure out how to tell the cable cars—of which I understand there are three lines—apart from the trams, which I think number seven. I can’t find their individual numbers or routes anywhere.

Is it possible to buy the pass online before the end of the year to lock in the 80 € rate? If so, where and how do I go about it?
