Hi, I need to stay in Paris or Créteil for 2 nights a week for a month. I know some cheap backpacker options, but I’d like something even cheaper. Do you know of any rooms for rent from private individuals? Thanks

Hi there,

I’m also looking for accommodation in Paris since I’ll be there for 4 months to study.

I was thinking of starting at CISP Kellermann (from 21.80 € per night): www.cisp.fr. If anyone has any feedback, because I can’t find any online...

For your second question, even though it won’t help for something like 2 days a week since it’s more for full-time stays, the only options I know are: - http://www.souslouer.com/sous-location-paris.htm for subletting a studio, apartment, or room in a shared flat, etc. - Intergenerational flat-sharing with associations like PariSolidaire—it’s quite affordable but doesn’t suit everyone. Might be useful for others! If anyone has tips for renting a room in someone’s home in Paris, I’m all ears! Thanks everyone!

You can also contact CNOUS or even directly the university residence.

CNOUS or CROUS... they never respond to anything, and there’s nothing available in Paris anyway. You have to apply about 6 months in advance...

I found this otherwise: http://fr.welchome.com/ but you have to pay a 30 € pass to contact the landlords.

When you call the residence directly, you don’t need to go through CNOUS. The residence director can give you an answer right away. That’s what I did.

Thanks for your replies! I found some backpacker places for 24 € a night, and in the end, I’m staying with a friend.

Now I need to find a studio or a shared flat around Paris by the end of January. The problem is they’re asking for 3 months’ deposit and agency fees, even though a law was passed limiting it to 1 month. It’s outrageous!

A really good price—I don’t think you’ll find anything cheaper in Paris.

Don’t go through agencies—they charge outrageous fees! And watch out for "list sellers" (they’ll ask you to open a PAID file just to access a list of... nonexistent apartments).

Look for private listings: - www.pap.fr - www.leboncoin.fr - www.souslouer.com (free sign-up to get advertisers’ contact details) - www.recherche-colocation.com (free sign-up to message advertisers) - www.colocation.fr (careful—you have to pay to see advertisers’ contact details on this site), but they organize the famous "Thursday Flat-Sharing Day" in Paris: http://www.colocation.fr/pages/jeudi.php

These are the sites that helped me the most for finding housing in Paris, and I actually found my place through a Leboncoin ad. There are others, of course.

Normally: 1 month’s deposit, even for furnished places, but many ask for 2 months (the max!). 3 months is illegal—don’t accept it.

Make sure to ask if the place is officially registered by the landlord and if you’re eligible for housing benefits (APL). Depending on your income, CAF can pay up to 200 € in housing aid.

Good luck! (You’ll need it)

thanks so much, I’m already checking Le Bon Coin. I’m not eligible for housing benefits, so no worries—I’m on a CIF leave (student with a salary).

see you soon

If you're arriving from abroad and don’t have all the documents required for a traditional rental yet, shared housing (colocation) is often the easiest way to find a place quickly in Paris. Take a look here: https://www.appartoo.com/recherche/colocation/paris You’ll find rooms in shared flats offered directly by private landlords or coliving managers, with processes that are usually more flexible than traditional agencies. It can be a great way to find a place while you complete your trial period and build a stronger rental application.
