Nous sommes un couple de retraités du Québec âgé de 70 ans et nous planifions notre prochain séjour dans cette région pour l'an prochain. Du 26 mars au 23 avril nous serons sur la Costa del Dol et ensuite un vol direct (Ryanair) vers Venise pour y passer une semaine .... ensuite on laisse une partie de nos bagages à notre B&B pour faire le circuit suivant en train et en bus.
Je pense prendre une passe 7 jours vaporettos pour découvrir au max ces iles. J'ai lu plusieurs commentaires où on dit que 3-5 jours c'est suffisant, mais le hic c'est que mon épouse ne peut marcher de longue période....
Train vers Peschira del Garda: 2 nuits. Jour 1 voir la ville, jour 2 excursion à Sirmione et croisière sur le lac. L'hébergement est moins dispendieux et l'accès est plus direct que Sirmione...
Bus ou train vers Verona: 2 nuits
Bus vers Vicence: 1 nuit
Bus vers Padoue: 2 nuits
Train ou bus vers Venise: 2 nuits. Le 2ème jour est consacré aux préparatifs et vol de retour
C'est 80 euros / personne = 125 $ CDN. Cela en vaut-il le cout? Est-ce que certains de vous l'avez effectué? Selon le descriptif, cela semble intéressant et il se termine à Venise!
Je suis ouvert à ttes suggestions puisqu'il s'agira de notre 1er et possiblement seul séjour dans cette région.
La gare de Peschiera del Garda n'est pas exactement au centre ville, donc marche (voir s'il existe un bus)
Vérone centre ville, 1 jour possible, mais belles balades le long de l'Adige, notamment pour aller voir San Zeno et d'autres églises (billet groupé pour 4 églises de mémoire). Si de la peine à marcher, alors prévoir 2 jours...
Pour Padoue, faut réserver pour la visite de la chapelle des Scrovegni (près de la gare). Voir pour bus de la gare au centre ville.
2 jours suffisent. J'ai cru comprendre que l'excursion en bateau vous ramènerait à Venise, mais elle ne semble pas avoir lieu tous les jours...
En effet, les excursions se font les mercredis, vendredis et dimanches. Si je me fis à mon horaire ci-haut, je pourrais la faire le vendredi.... arrivée en fin de journée à Venise. J'attends des nouvelles si l'on peut laisser notre valise en tte sécurité dans le bateau pendant que nous irons visiter.
Pour la réservation pour les églises à Padoue, combien de temps à l'avance? 2 semaines ? 1 mois ?
La Vénétie est facile à visiter en train (perso, je n'aime pas tellement le bus pour de longs trajets d'une ville à l'autre). Pour acheter les billets, il y a des automates dans toutes les gares (avec une version française), et des guichets dans les gares importantes (ne pas oublier de composter le ticket avant de monter dans le train).
Peschiera del Garda est pittoresque; on peut y prendre le bateau pour aller à Sirmione (il y a aussi un bus); de Sirmione, un petit "train" automobile vous conduit à la villa romaine du bout de la presqu'île.
Dans plusieurs villes, notamment à Padoue et à Vérone, il y a des bus "hop on hop off", pratiques pour visiter la ville si vous n'aimez pas marcher trop.
La Vénétie est une très belle région, avec de nombreuses autres petites villes pittoresques et intéressantes : Castelfranco Veneto, Bassano del Grappa, Trévise, Vittorio Veneto, etc.
À la suite de vos généreux commentaires, j'ai modifié mon approche pour ce prochain voyage.... même si nous sommes très en avance!
Mon 1er défi sera de convaincre mon épouse de faire une location d'auto car j'ai tendance à recevoir qq contraventions de vitesse à mon retour 🙁 plutôt que de prendre le train ou le bus.
Nous pensons être au moins 17 jours en Vénétie.

Nous arrivons vers 21 h le 23, donc on se familisera avec l'endroit le 24 et achat d'une passe de vaporettos pour 3 jours (25 au 28). Excursion a / r en train vers Padoue le 29 poss.

Le 3, en route vers Vérone, arrêt à Bardolino...
Le 4, en route vers Vicence, arrêt à Soave
Le 5, visite de Vicence, les villas Rotonde et Valmarana
Le 6, en route vers Trevisse en passant par Bassano del Grappa
Le 7 retour à Venise et remise de l'auto... sans contravention 🙂
Le 8 derniers préparatifs et le 9 retour vers Montréal.... avec de beaux souvenirs en tête et un blog intéressant. 😏
Pour les contraventions, se renseigner aussi sur les zones ZTL en Italie... Prendre des hôtels en dehors de ces zones ou se renseigner auprès de l'hôtel comment y accéder (numéros de plaques à transmettre avant, éventuelle heure d'ouverture de la ZTL, etc.)

Départ le 30 vers Ferrare, visite des principaux points et par la suite vers Mandova. Difficile de visiter Ferrare et Mantova (Mantoue) le même jour... A la limite, je supprimerais ce jour et je commencerais directement par le jour 2 plutôt qu'organiser une course poursuite...
Le 1er, en route vers le lac de Garde en passant par le côté ouest du lac jusqu'à Riva del Garda ou Malsicine (arrêt aux nombreux petits villages que l'on croisera). Je ferais Peschiera del Garda et Sirmione, dormir à Desenzano par ex. Attention, le 1er mai est férié, c'est un vendredi, on s'achemine vers un pont de 3 jours et beaucoup de monde dans le secteur... Si Malcesine, réserver le téléphérique avant. Nous, en septembre, on a renoncé, 3 heures d'attente annoncées, alors le 1er mai... 😛
Eventuel jour supplémentaire pour Salo, Riva del Garda, Malcesine, selon décision sur le jour 1
Le 2, escapade en bateau sur le lac, là on pourrait faire arrêt à Bardolino, pour gagner du temps pour Vérone ensuite.

Une ZTL .... je ne connaissais pas cette accro. et viens de le découvrir dans un article. Merci de l'info. C'est sur qu'au moment de la réservation de notre hôtel on fera attention à ce gros détail.
Mantoue / Ferrare ensemble peut-être difficile... et si je me consacrais uniquement à Mantoue en passant par A 31 (150 km - 2,5 h). En partant vers 9 h 30 de la gare Sta-Lucia (c'est à cet endroit que ce trouve le locuteur) je pourrais arriver avant 13 h à Mantoue. Je devrais faire des choix sur les "must " de Mantoue Tous ces points sont dans le même secteur: Palais duqual, Rotonde, Eglise San Andrea, Place Erbe, Place Sordello... sauf le Palais Té qui est un peu à l'écart.
Il me faudra trouver un hôtel et un parking à proximité.
Vu ce long w-e, tous mes hôtels auront été réservées d'ici septembre.
Tour du lac.
Le 1er mai au Québec n'est très couru!
En consultant sur Booking, déjà on voit que plusieurs hôtels sont complets pour ce w-e. J'avais mis principalement mes efforts sur le circuit, je devrai me pencher aussi sur les hôtels.
Possiblement comme tu dis me loger à Descenzano ( à moins de 50 km de Mantoue).
Est-ce qu'à cette période du 1er, le circuit autour du lac peut devenir un enfer à cause du flot touristique comme la côte amalfitaine... où on est obligé de suivre à la file indienne ????? et passer plus de temps dans l'auto que prévu...
Si c'est le cas, je vais éviter de faire le tour du lac en auto, et m'en tenir à visiter à mon arrivée autour comme Sirmione. Éviter les bains de foule. Pour le jour de la croisière, je ne veux pas passer 8 heures dans le bateau, plein soleil. Si je dois monter jusqu'à Garda .... je dois revenir ! Il existe un tour opérateur où il divise le lac en deux partie et où il ya des départs de Descenzano pour pour me rendre à Salo, ensuite attendre le prochain pour aller à Bardolino et revenir ensuite à Descenzano. J'espère que malgré la foule du jour, je pourrai effectuer cette ballade et revenir avant 20 h . 😉

Je ne suis pas sûr de faire le tour du lac en auto puisque j'anticipe bcp de circulation pour ce w-e et ma patience risque d'être mise à rude épreuve 😉
Après avoir reçu une réponse du tour opérateur, ce dernier me dit que cela prend moins d'une heure pour me rendre au bout du lac à Riva, avec un transfert à Garda. Je dois vérifier les horaires. J'espère qu'il n'y a pas trop d'attente entre les 2!
J'ai la possibilité de revenir à Montréal le dimanche, ce qui me donnerait une journée de plus soit faire Ferrare pour y découvrir son côté médiéval et son quartier juif ou passer une autre journée à Descenzano pour faire d'autres excursions....
Si je prend cette option, je ne ferais pas l'option de traverser le lac jusqu'à Riva et m'en tiendrait à la partie sud avec une escapade en matinée à Salo en bateau (avec un retour par le bus à Descenzano que je crois plus fréquent que le bateau) et autre tour en pm vers Bardolino avec aussi un retour par le bus.
Une autre possibilité serait d'oublier mon hébergement à Trevisse et de profiter de mon séjour à Venise pour y aller ( à moins de 45 min. en train), en partant tôt le matin, on pourra voir peut-être les principaux pts d'intérêts en moins de 8 heures.
Cette option ainsi me donnerait plus de temps pour Ferrare et le lac. La fin du parcours serait Vicence et direction Venise. .. au pire on pourrait faire un détour vers Bassano del Grappa.
J'aime bien cette 3e option: moins de temps en auto, moins de temps à chercher un stationnement, pas de valises à trimbaler....
J'ai des doutes pour le Desenzano - Riva en 1 heure. Attention les horaires sur le site internet sont dès le 1er juin, il faudrait avoir ceux en mai...
Si je suis bien, 1 jour sur le lac pour aller à Riva, etc. un autre jour pour Salo et Bardolino. Cela fait 2 jours de location de voiture pour rien si elle reste à l'hôtel...
Tu pourrais retaper le plan avec les nouvelles propositions, je m'y perds un peu là... ?
Désolé du délais, nous étions en camping sauvage au cours des derniers jours.

J'ai glissé un mot à mon épouse du trajet que j'avais en tête avec la location d'une auto.... etc. Et elle s'est sentie déjà très angoissée à l'idée de.... Déjà qu'elle a une santé fragile. Pour ton info, il est impensable de faire une journée de visite où elle sera debout plus de 6 heures. On ne peut partir tôt le matin, faire des marches qui durent des heures pour se balader dans une ville. On doit prévoir des haltes. L'an dernier quand nous avons passé 9 jours à Rome, c'était parfait car il y avait de nombreuses églises ici et là pour se reposer. 😉
On va tenter de concilier chacun nos objectifs sans trop de stress.
Comme prévu initialement, nous allons passer 1 mois sur la Costa del Sol à Fuengirola. Cela sera notre 4ème fois. C'est vraiment pour fuir notre hiver. Nous retournerons surement à Estepona et Malaga (musées)... Mijas qui est à moins de 25 minutes en bus. Peut-être Marbella, puisqu'on n'y a pas été l'an dernier.... On verra selon l'humeur!
Après ce séjour, le 23 avril , vol Ryanair / Venise vers 16 h, arrivée à Venise en fin de soirée, donc la découverte de Venise se fera à partir du 24 avril. Notre hébergement à Venise est trouvé et non réservé. On a une entente avec la proprio qui retient nos dates sur son calendrier. Je lui ai expliqué ma problématique avec Ryanair où on pourra réserver notre vol qu'en septembre..
Pour cette portion de nos vacances on va maximiser les transports publics.
Du 23 avril au 2 mai : Venise
Achat d'une passe de vaporettos pour 3 jours (25, 26, 27)
Excursion en train, départ tôt le matin et retour en PM : Padoue (28), Trévisse (30). Je laisse une journée de répit entre les escapades en train afin de permettre à mon épouse de récupérer.
Du 2 au 5 mai: Train vers Descenzano. Cela nous donne 3 jours pour découvrir le lac et ses environs en bus: Simione, Limone Sul, Bardolino. Comme tu dis, se rendre jusqu'à Garda sera bcp plus long que ce que le préposé m'a dis.
Du 5 au 8 mai Train vers Vicence, 2 jours pour cette ville et les villas
Rotonda Valmarana ai Nani.
Le 8 Train vers Venise
Le 9 Avion vers Montréal (vol direct)
Cet itinéraire n'a pas encore été soumis.... 😉 un voeu pieux.
J'aimerais bien réservé tous les hôtels en septembre.
Cela me paraît déjà beaucoup mieux que la course poursuite précédente, surtout avec quelqu'un qui a de la peine à marcher...
Pour le lac de Garde, il existe un village dénommé Garda (qui a donné son nom au lac) à côté de Bardolino. Ce qui est "long", c'est d'aller à Riva del Garda tout au nord du lac, mais Riva est en même temps assez proche de Limone sul Garda.
Notre circuit initial a pris du plomb dans l'aile puisque suite à des événements imprévus notre séjour en Vénétie sera amputée d'une semaine.
Par le fait même, cela nous oblige à reconsidérer certaines destinations.
Suite aux bons conseils reçus, je crois que nous pourrons quand mm découvrir une partie de la Vénétie à un rythme pas trop effréné.
23 avril : arrivée à Venise en soirée vers 21 h. Notre futur B & B est à moins de 15 minutes de Piazzale Roma et sera notre pt d'ancrage pour notre séjour
24 avril : découverte des pts d'intérêts autour de notre B & B, comme la basilique Maria Gloriosa, Chielsa San Pantalon, Ca Rezzonico, etc
25 avril : train vers Padoue et retour en pm à notre B & B
26 avril : vaporettto vers Burano, arrêt au retour à Murano (1 h )
27 avril : Bas. Santa Maria Salude, L'Arsenal .... profiter au max de cette dernière journée de la passe vaporetto pour circuler sur grand canal. Clic, clic, clic, clic
28 - 29 avril : le train vers Vicence et séjour 1 nuit
30 avril : les pts d'intérêts autour de la Place St-Marc: palais des Doges (billets coupe-file), basilique avec audio-guide, chiesa San Zaccaria, campanile, etc.
1er mai: train vers Trevisse, retour en pm vers notre B & B, Venise
2 mai ; Sta Maria Gloriosa, Scala Contarini (ext.) etc.
3 mai : navette à 11 h vers l'aéroport... c'est déjà fini😐
En espérant que la Mère Nature ne nous causera pas trop d'ennuis pour chambouler cet itinéraire et que l'on ne perdra pas trop de temps dans les dédales pour trouver notre chemin...

I’m all set with the route up to eastern Turkey.
However, I’m just starting my research for the rest of the journey—namely the Caucasus (no trains as far as I know, so buses and/or ferries), then Central Asia and China.
So, I’d love to hear any info or tips (general and forward-looking at this stage) about the train route through Central Asia and China to reach the east coast.
I’m particularly interested in details on:
- How far in advance to book / any potential difficulties with reservations
- Whether there are PASS systems (or equivalent) between countries and/or if some tickets allow stopovers, meaning you can hop on and off as you please
- Day trains vs. night trains (the latter option lets you explore cities between two legs of the journey)
- A rough idea of ticket costs

Tokyo - Hakone
Hakone - Kyoto
Kyoto - Osaka

Here are my questions:
a) Is it possible to buy train tickets for these segments from Canada?
b) If so, which website should I use to do this?
c) And if it is possible, will we be able to print our tickets from Canada?
d) If it’s not possible, where in Tokyo should I go to buy these tickets when I arrive?
Hi everyone, I wanted to take the Paris-Berlin overnight train with a sleeper berth, the new service operated by European Sleepers.
24/05/2026 17:45 Paris-Nord (actually 16:00 from Paris Bercy Seine) -> 25/05/2026 9:59 (actually 7:30 in Berlin)
05/06/2026 18:31 Berlin (actually 20:00) -> 06/06/2026 10:00 Paris Nord (actually 12:30)
Part of the journey was operated by bus instead of the promised overnight train.
For 2 people: 340 € round trip
A total disaster. Never again. I was really looking forward to taking the overnight train, but we faced last-minute changes and truly unpleasant travel conditions. Here are the details:
1) 2 days before departure: email announcing a change of departure station for the outbound trip—Bercy Seine bus station instead of Gare du Nord.
2) Change of schedule: 4:00 PM from Bercy instead of 5:45 PM from Gare du Nord.
3) Change of transport mode!! A bus from Paris to Brussels, then an overnight train from Brussels to Berlin. No functional toilets on the bus. No children under 4 allowed on the bus.
4) On the sleeper train at 9:30 PM: no functional toilets in our carriage, so we had to go to other carriages, even in the middle of the night, to find working ones.
5) The onboard staff, though very friendly, were as lost as we were. In particular, they didn’t know how to handle the lower berths, so people using them had less space (armrests and backrests). Berth numbers weren’t respected, so some passengers had to move. The staff also didn’t know who was supposed to join the compartment during the journey.
6) Arrival at 7:30 AM in Berlin instead of 10:00 AM. No arrival announcement. Passengers had to search for staff to get breakfast and ended up with just a coffee (breakfast = 15 €, not bad for just a coffee).
7) Return trip: drastic schedule change announced by email on 26/05/2026—departure at 7:30 PM instead of 6:30 PM, with arrival between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM in Paris instead of 10:00 AM. No change in transport mode announced.
8) Change in transport mode announced by email on the same day (05/06/2026)!! Overnight train from Brussels to Berlin, then a bus from Paris to Brussels. No functional toilets on the bus. Children under 4 banned from the bus, and families in this situation were asked to find another way—after being notified the same day.
9) The overnight train arrived at Berlin station with a 30-minute delay on top of its initial delay (scheduled for 6:31 PM, then 7:30 PM, finally arriving at 8:00 PM). The heating was blasting in the compartment with no way to turn it off. No functional toilets in the carriage. From that point on, customer service stopped responding to my messages.
10) Woken up at 5:00 AM with an announcement in all carriages about arrival in Liège.
11) Woken up again at 6:00 AM to be told we’d arrive in Brussels at 7:00 AM.
12) Arrival in Brussels at 7:00 AM and a one-hour wait for the bus to Paris. No functional toilets on the bus.
13) Arrival at Paris Nord at 12:30 PM, so 2.5 hours late compared to the originally scheduled time.
14) The overnight trains used are very old—I recognized the carriages from 20 years ago!! No functional power outlets, no Wi-Fi, no air conditioning. Five people per compartment is a bit cramped, but I consider these conditions expected (especially the air conditioning), so I’m not complaining about that. There’s already plenty to gripe about with the travel conditions.
I have little hope of getting even a partial refund. Customer service emails acknowledge the discomfort but only offer to reimburse the cost of a coffee on board if we send them the receipt... a bit weak.
I’m sharing this experience in the hope it might help others.

Tomorrow afternoon, I arrive at Lyon Part-Dieu on the TGV at 5:50 PM and take the TER to Mâcon at 6:16 PM. Is a 26-minute transfer doable? Are the TGV and TER on the same departure board? And are they on the same platforms too?
I’ve been to Lyon before but never had to make a connection after arriving.

Starting November 15th, I’ll be arriving in Thailand, and during my stay, I plan to visit the north, around the Chiang Mai area, then head south to the Krabi region.
After Krabi, I’m planning to take an overnight train to Bangkok. I was wondering if there’s a train that leaves from Krabi or Trang, or if I absolutely have to go to Surat Thani?
Also, which official website can I use to book my ticket?
Next, since I’ll be arriving at dawn in Bangkok, I’ve planned to spend 2 days in Kanchanaburi. What’s the most convenient way to get there—bus or train? And if you know any companies or websites, that’d be great.

Does anyone know if there’s a bus from Luang Namtha to Boten to catch the train coming from China to Vientiane? If so, what’s the name of the company? Also, how long does the bus take to cover that distance? What’s the condition of the road like?

I just realized there’s only one payment method accepted for booking the Mombasa-Nairobi express train ticket online: M-Pesa, a mobile money transfer service used in Africa. Would it be impossible to book as a European?
I’d love to know if any of you have recently eaten on the overnight train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.
We’ve always ordered food on the train, and it was really good (and super convenient).
But in 2022, we ended up feeling like total idiots (with our 4-year-old daughter...) when we boarded the train only to find out that this service was no longer available... (It was the first time we’d traveled right after COVID.)
That’s also when we saw once again how kind Thai people are—they all offered to share their food with us, even though we were mortified. In the end, we managed to buy some instant noodles, which was better than nothing. Anyway, that’s the little story behind it.
In the following years, we’ve always brought our own meals.
I’ve read online that meal trays are back in service (could you confirm this, please?), but that the quality is really poor. I’ve also seen multiple reports that, even though you can eat well everywhere in Thailand, the train meal was the worst food travelers had during their trip...
Could you give me a recent opinion on this?
We’ll be departing from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Station—do you know if there’s anywhere to buy a meal there before boarding the train?
