Je ne trouve pas grand chose sur ces 2 villes dans les guides, (3 pages sur kanazawa et 1/2 sur Takayama dans le Loneley planet ) L'un dans vous qui serait passer par ces 2 villes pourrait il me donner de plus amples informations sur les lieux à visiter ou les balades à faire dans les environs, sachant que nous n'avons pas de moyen de transport à disposition. Here’s what I’ve come up with: - Arrival in Tokyo on May 17 - Staying in Tokyo from May 17 to 22, exploring the city, with a day trip to Nikko (round trip in one day): is it worth it, considering it’s a 2-hour train ride each way? - Sending our big suitcases directly to Osaka - Traveling to Kamakura on May 23: 1 night (with small luggage) - Traveling to Hakone on May 24: 1 night (with small luggage) - Heading to Osaka on May 25: staying from May 25 to June 2 in Osaka, where we’ll pick up our big suitcases Day trips from Osaka: - Kyoto: 2 days (round trip in one day) - Nara: 1 day (round trip in one day) My son would prefer to stay in Osaka for all 8 days, but I’m wondering if it’s a good idea to spend at least one night in Kyoto. Hi there! After a wonderful trip in 2024, we’ll be heading back to Japan at the end of July 2026 to reunite with our daughter, who will have been there for a few months.

Last time, we did a route: Tokyo – Japanese Alps – Kyoto – Osaka – Hiroshima. This time, we’ll have 10 days to ourselves before our daughter joins us for a full week. We’re thinking of spending 2 days in Tokyo and 1 day at the end of the trip for shopping.

We’re looking for ideas for a route (by train and bus) that’s a little off the beaten path, especially avoiding the most touristy spots like the best-known temples in Kyoto. Our favorite spots in 2024: Kanazawa, Takayama, and Miyajima Island. We love temples, gardens, and would love to explore the nature, which looks incredible.

Après Tokyo, Matsumoto, les Alpes Jap, Kyoto, Nara, Himeji, Osaka , il nous reste 3 jours et on n’arrive pas à se décider: Okayama, Yoshino, Mt Shigi, balade campagne /rizière, voire un coin sympa en bord de mer ... My wife and I are heading to Japan from March 27 to April 22, 2025. On the evening of the 21st, we’ll be staying in Tokyo to catch our international flight. For this first trip, we’ve prioritized a fairly classic itinerary. Here’s the plan:

- Osaka (arriving at Kansai Airport) - Hiroshima - Itsukushima (also known as Miyajima) - Kyoto - Nara - Kanazawa - Shirakawa-go - Takayama - Tokyo

We’ll likely finish our sightseeing in Tokyo around March 17.

We’re thinking of heading somewhere "quiet" or "by the sea," maybe an island, between the 17th/18th and the evening of the 21st.

I’m planning to return to Japan for 15 days in April. This will be my second trip there. I’m starting to think about my itinerary.

I arrive in Tokyo in the evening and will spend one night there before taking the train to Hiroshima. I’ll stay in Hiroshima for 2 nights. Then, I’m heading to Kyoto (there are still so many beautiful things I want to see there), and I think I’ll stay for 3 nights. I also want to go back to Nara to visit the Pink Temple (probably in the morning before heading back to Kyoto).

And after that? I’d like to return to Hakone to try and catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji (I didn’t see it last time—it was cloudy). I’m thinking of staying one night there, probably in Odawara.

And then? I’ll head back to Tokyo and take the train to explore the surrounding areas and spend the day at some sites?

While in Tokyo, I want to visit Yokohama. I went to Kamakura last time and really loved it, but I don’t think I’ll go back.

I’ll end my trip in Tokyo, with my second-to-last night at the Muji Hotel and my last night near the airport.

That’s the plan so far—I’m open to your suggestions and itinerary tips!

This time, we’re taking more time—about a month—with the following points of interest: Start of the trip with a few days in Tokyo Osaka International Exposition on October 11–12, 2025 Jidai Matsuri Festival in KYOTO on October 22, 2025 Karatsu Kunchi Festival from November 2–4 Our goal is to blend into the crowd and make connections in festive atmospheres. Do these stops sound interesting to you? Is it a good idea to stay in a central location between October 10 and 23 to get to the Osaka Expo and the Jidai Matsuri Festival in Kyoto using public transport, and to explore the region in between? Between Kyoto and the KARATSU Festival from October 23 to November 1, we’re thinking of traveling by shinkansen with a stopover for a few days to visit Hiroshima and the surrounding area. Jusqu'ici, tout allait bien et l'itinéraire me plaisait bien pour une première découverte du Japon mixant culture millénaire et culture Otaku... 😉

Ça, c'était jusqu'à ce que mes enfants me parlent de l'existence du parc Naruto & Boruto Shinobi-Zato qui a ouvert en Avril dernier... Ce sont des inconditionnels de Naruto, et il paraît inenvisageable de partir au Japon pour "leur" voyage, sans passer par ce parc.

Recherches faites, ce parc est situé sur l’île Awaji dans la préfecture de Hyogo, non loin de Kobe... Une visite est donc envisageable pour nous, mais ça remet une partie de mon planning en cause ! Voici les options auxquelles j'ai songé :

- Sacrifier la journée d'excursion à Osaka depuis Kyoto au profit d'une excursion à la journée vers ce parc... Mais est-ce seulement faisable depuis Kyoto en A/R en train/bus sur une journée ?

- Annuler les visites d'Hiroshima et de Miyajima et planifier plutôt un séjour de 3 jours vers Kobe/Awaji, mais est-ce intéressant ? Hiroshima devait être la visite "devoir de mémoire" de notre séjour, et Miyajima la pause "zen" avant Tokyo... J'avoue avoir du mal à y renoncer (même si j'ai appris que le grand Torii serait en travaux et recouvert d'une bâche lors de notre séjour - quel dommage !)

Voilà... Je venais donc recueillir vos avis / conseils / idées / retours d'expérience.

Mon itinéraire étant presque finit j'ai un doute sur la durée que nous devons accorder à Kanazawa et Takayama. Je ne vous donne pas tout mon itinéraire, mais seulement l'étape d'avant et d'après. Nous serons à Tokyo pendant 4 nuits, nous désirons aller à Kanasawa et Takayama et ensuite nous irons à Kyoto pour 5 nuits, ....... Je pensai à 5 nuits mais est ce qu'il vaut mieux mettre 3 nuits à Kanasawa ou Takayama et 2 nuits à Takayama ou Kanasawa??? n'est ce pas trop???? J'attend vos suggestions. Merci.

In the afternoon, 1h20 train to Takehara Day 9: stroll in Takehara. This coming October or November, we’re planning our first trip to Japan. The only downside is we’ll only have two weeks off.

For this first visit, I’m thinking of sticking to the Kyoto and Osaka area… saving Tokyo for another trip. Do you think that’s a good choice for a first-time visit?

I’ve put together a little itinerary below to get some feedback from those in the know. I’m only counting the days we’re actually there, not travel days.

Day 1: Kyoto Ginkaku-ji – Philosopher’s Path with stops at a few shrines temples Eikan-dō and Nanzen-ji visit to the Samurai Ninja Museum in the late afternoon

Day 2: Kyoto Fushimi Inari (allow 4 hours for the hike through the park) visit to Sanjūsangen-dō temple Shōseien garden participate in a tea ceremony

Day 3: Kyoto Kiyomizu-dera temple stroll through the historic district up to Kennin-ji temple visit Kennin-ji temple Yasaka-jinja shrine and Gion district in the late afternoon return to the hotel via Pontochō Street

Day 4: Kyoto visit Kinkaku-ji and Nijō Castle visit the Imperial Palace gardens end the day in the shopping streets (Shibkyogoku and Teramachi, among others)

Day 5: Kyoto Arashiyama area Togetsukyo Bridge, walk along the river, visit the Bamboo Forest explore the area up to Otagi Nenbutsu-ji temple

Day 6: Kyoto hike from Kibune to Kurama

Day 7: Kyoto day trip to Nara (full day)

Day 8: stroll around Kyoto before heading to Osaka

Day 9: Osaka Katsuo-ji temple, then head to Minoh Falls and hike back via the Minoh Trail end the day in the Osaka Castle area

Day 10: Osaka Himeji Castle and an afternoon in Osaka

Do you think this itinerary is doable? Are some days too relaxed or too packed? I was thinking of adding a trip to Lake Biwa and Uji, but in that case, I’d have to cut some things. Are those places worth dropping some of the planned spots? And if so, which ones would you recommend cutting or shortening?

I’m currently planning our first trip to Japan. We’ll be traveling with our two teens, aged 16 and 17. We’re doing a pretty classic loop, but I’d still love to hear your valuable input.

Here’s the itinerary we’re considering:

- Tokyo (5 full days) - Fuji Yoshida (1 night) - Matsumoto (1 night) - Kamikochi / Gokayama (1 night) - Kanazawa (1 night) - Ine (1 night) - Himeji - Kyoto (5 full days)

We’re thinking of renting a car for the Japanese Alps portion.

We’re planning a 3-week trip, so I still have a few days to allocate—maybe in the Japanese Alps.

What do you think of the itinerary? The detour to Ine might seem odd, but I really want to include a coastal part—any thoughts? Is renting a car in Japan a total hassle?

And finally, is it absolutely necessary to book all accommodations in advance if we’re traveling in August? Or can I leave some flexibility for the Kanazawa / Ine / Himeji portion? Maybe if we really love a place and want to stay longer?

Logiquement, nous avons prévu de partir avec ma femme au Japon mi Mai 2021 (On verra si cela est possible étant donné le contexte actuel). J'essaye tant bien que mal de préparer un itinéraire sympathique mais cela s'avère beaucoup plus complexe que prévu étant donné le nombre de choses incroyables que ce pays propose. Sachant que nous sommes intéressés par pratiquement tout (ville, nature, gastronomie...) et surtout on aime mixer et varier les journées.

Honnêtement, les choix a réaliser sont compliqués. Etant donné que ça sera notre premier voyage au Japon, nous souhaitons faire les incontournables bien entendu (mais je sens bien qu'il va falloir choisir les incontournables des incontournables 😉 )

Du coup, je suis intéressé par vos avis et conseils concernant une première ébauche que j'ai prévu.

Je me pose la question pour Osaka notamment (3 soirs) et Kyoto sur 4 jours complets ou j'ai un peu peur d'une "lassitude" concernant les temples même si ils ont l'air magnifique (sachant que ces 4j sont à Kyoto même).

_Il nous semble possible d'ajouter une journée dans le circuit mais je ne sais pas ou cela serait le plus judicieux (Tokyo, Nikko, Nara, Uji, Himeji, Kyoto, Miyajima ou autres)

Nous allons faire avec ma compagne un voyage de 18 jours courant octobre en partant de Fukuoka jusqu'à Tokyo, en explorant l'île de Kyushu et les montagnes de Tokushima et Ehime.

Je cherche quelques conseils et recommandations de lieux à visiter : villages, trek, temples et lieux incroyables et zen, adresses de ryokan et autres minshuku.

On cherche de l'authentique, un peu en dehors des sentiers battus et des zones trop touristiques (tout en s'y obligeant surement pour certains spots incontournables), de la nature, des beaux paysages, des contacts sympas avec les gens (un peu de couchsurfing).

Nous pensons aussi prendre la tente pour pouvoir s'arrêter un peu où l'on veut. J'ai trouvé différentes cartes de camping : www.google.com/...x3to&usp=sharing www.hatinosu.net/camp/ www.autocamp.or.jp/ Si vous en connaissez d'autres, n'hésitez pas à les partager. :) Le camping sauvage est interdit me semble-t-il sur les terrains publics... des retours d'expériences ? Il fait froid là-haut dans les montagnes (nous y privilégierons les ryokan entre 2 treks) ?

Côté pratique, nous nous déplaçons principalement en stop (on prépare le vocabulaire et la méthode assimil), et en bus / train quand il faut. Peut-être un peu de vélo si l'occasion s'y prête, mais étant essentiellement en itinérance, d'un point A à B à C, ça ne sera sans pas pas idéal, d'autant que ma compagne a du mal avec les côtes...

Pour le moment, nous avons prévu l'itinéraire suivant :

KYUSHU : Départ de Fukuoka : ville et environs (2 jours) peut-être l'île aux chats d'Ainoshima (c'est très touristique ?) > Nagasaki > Kumamoto > Kagoshima > remonter à Oita

EHIME / TOKUSHIMA : > de OITA, passer en ferry vers Ehime > Tokushima et notamment la vallée d'Iya (trek de 2 jours, onsen et nuit en ryokan :) > direction Kyoto (peut-être Osaka si nous avons le temps, mais ça me semble court) > Yokohama (voir un ami) > Tokyo > retour en France :'(

I’m reaching out to you because I’m planning our next big trip (Japan is really tempting us for the autumn!) and I have to admit, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed.

My husband and I have always loved traveling, and at 75, we have no intention of stopping... But I find that everything’s getting so complicated. I try to be "modern" by booking online, but as soon as there’s a problem, we hit a wall.

A friend nearly missed her departure last year because of a visa issue that wasn’t explained properly on a website... and no one to call for help, just automated messages.

It makes me a little nervous to be alone in front of a screen so far away, especially since at our age, we like knowing there’s real support if our health takes a turn while we’re there.

Anyway, I’m tired of seeing my file passed from one person to another without ever having the same contact... Do you know of any small, trustworthy agencies or people who still work the "old-fashioned" way and really look after their clients? I love my independence, but I need a real face behind my project.

I’m heading to Japan with my partner in November 2025. This will be my second trip there and his first.

I was planning to go from Tokyo to Matsumoto, which I haven’t visited before, and from there, check out Shirahone Onsen and then hike from Magome to Tsumago. However, after reading several travel journals, I’ve realized that the village of Shirakawa-go and its surroundings look amazing. Back in 2006, I visited Takayama, which I loved, but I don’t want to stay there again.

To visit the places mentioned above (Shirahone Onsen, Shirakawa-go, Magome, and Tsumago), I’m thinking that a car might be more convenient than public transport, especially for getting from Shirakawa-go to Magome. Could you confirm if that’s the case? If so, is it easy to rent a car for a few days to do a loop starting from Matsumoto?

Hello everyone, what a pleasure to be back on this forum!

My partner and I are heading to Japan for the first time from mid-December to mid-January for 31 days. It’s a long-held dream we’ve been saving for over two years, and we want to enjoy ourselves while also being mindful of our budget for parts of the trip. We’d love to explore Tokyo, but we’ve chosen to spend more time in nature. My partner plans to get his driver’s license translated locally so we can rent a car. We’ve heard from friends who’ve been that Japan isn’t the best place for improvisation, so we’ve tried to allow plenty of time in each location to avoid rushing. Still, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the itinerary we’ve planned—whether it’s feasible in terms of travel and how interesting it seems. Given the recent increase in the JR Pass price and the fact that we’ll spend about ten days on Goto, Ojika, and Yakushima (where the JR Pass doesn’t cover travel), we don’t think it’s worth it for us. Instead, we’re planning to take the train from Tokyo to Fukuoka and then use buses and ferries for the rest of Kyushu. Here’s our itinerary:

1- December 13 / Arrival in Tokyo, one night in Tokyo, then departure for Fukuoka by train on the morning of the 14th.

2 - December 14-16 / 2 nights in Fukuoka, sightseeing, then departure on the evening/night of the 16th by ferry to Ojika Islands.

3 - December 17-21 / 4 nights on Ojika, cycling and exploring, then departure on the 21st by ferry to Fukue on the Goto Islands.

4 - December 21-24 / 3 nights on the Goto Islands, renting a car to explore, maybe a trip to Hisaka. Departure for Nagasaki by ferry on the morning of the 24th.

5- December 24-26 / 2 nights in Nagasaki, visiting the city and memorials, possibly the hot springs in Unzen. Departure on the evening of the 26th by bus or ferry (?) to Kumamoto.

6- December 26-29 / 3 nights in Kumamoto, sightseeing, day trip by car to Mount Aso and surrounding areas. Departure on the 29th in the late afternoon by bus to Kagoshima, overnight in Kagoshima.

7- December 30 to January 2 / Morning departure by ferry to Yakushima for 3 nights, hiking and exploring the island. Departure on January 2 on the only ferry (?) in the early afternoon back to Kagoshima.

8- January 2 to 5 / Uncertain leg... We’d like to spend the night of the 4th to the 5th at a ryokan in Kurokawa Onsen and then head back to Fukuoka and Tokyo by train on the 5th. From the 2nd to the 4th, since we’ll arrive in Kagoshima in the late afternoon, we thought we could head back up to Kumamoto by train or bus—going to Yufuin or Beppu would take much longer and leave us with very little time. But is it worth staying another 2 nights in Kumamoto to explore the area, given we’ll already be there for 3 days from December 26-29? Or should we stay in Kagoshima and head up to Kurokawa Onsen on the afternoon of the 4th for our overnight stay?

9- January 5 to 13, Tokyo and its endless things to do and see, then back to France!

Dans 2 ou 3 ans (en espérant que le coronavirus soit passé depuis longtemps), je compte faire avec ma mère un second voyage au Japon, durant environ 3 ou 4 semaines vers mai-juin. En effet, au premier, nous étions restés 20 jours à Tokyo et ses alentours, c'était vraiment magique. Malheureusement, il y avait beaucoup trop de touristes (comme on pouvait s'y attendre) et on aimerait bien retenter l'expérience mais d'une manière différente. On a envie de parcourir la campagne japonaise et même parler avec les habitants. Donc surtout pour voir un Japon plus rural et loin de la ville si possible et dans des zones avec peu de touristes. La question de la langue ne se pose pas dans le sens où j'apprends intensivement le japonais depuis maintenant 1½ et que dans 2 ans j'aurais sûrement un bon niveau (en plus de cela j'étudie également l'anglais). C'est pourquoi je voulais avoir vos envies concernant les destinations possibles. On envisage: - d'atterrir à l'aéroport du Kansai pour visiter la région quitte à rester par là (on m'a parlé de Shizuoka notamment ou bien de Nara) on hésite pour Kyoto et Osaka, tous deux très fréquentés - ou bien, d'atterrir à l'aéroport du Kansai mais repartir soit en train ou en avion vers le Kyuushu et/ou le Shikoku  - ou sinon, d'atterrir à un des aéroports de Tokyo pour visiter les Alpes japonaises

Personnellement nous avons réfléchi aux modes de transports et notre cœur balance pour la voiture (liberté de déplacements dans les campagnes) mais peut-être aussi le train ou le bus. Au niveau de l'administratif, nous nous sommes renseignés (pour le changement de permis de voiture, etc.), donc il nous faut juste nous décider pour les destinations.

Nous prévoyons de partir au Japon en famille au mois d’octobre 2020 pour une durée de 15 jours. Nous n'y sommes jamais allés.

Voici les sites que nous aimerions visiter en arrivant à Osaka et en repartant de Tokyo ( sites tirés des guides de voyage que j'ai consultés).

Dans les environs d'Osaka : Himéji ; Koyan san ; Nara ; Kyoto (7 jours) Dans les environs du Fuji San : Hakone ( 2/3 jours) Tokyo (3 jours) Nikko ( 2 jours)

Est-ce que cela vous paraît cohérent ? Y a t-il un site "incontournable" que nous avons oublié (hormis Hiroshima que nous ne souhaitons pas visiter) et qui soit compatible avec la durée de notre voyage et notre itinéraire ?

bonjour, nous envisageons de partir quasi un mois au japon de mi mai à mi juin 2020. Notre fils étant sur place nous souhaitons bien sur lui rendre visite. Il est dans sur l'ile d'Okaido, mais nous voulons en profiter pour visiter les incontournables de ce pays, une première pour nous. J'ai bien sur regarde les brochures touristiques mais j'avoue ne pas savoir par ou commencer. Je pense que nous arriverons à Tokyo en premier. mais après dans quel sens cela est il le plus judicieux (selon les sites incontournables ) (monter sur le nord ou descendre vers le sud avant de remonter sur Okaido pour repartir ensuite en direction de Tokyo ? nous aimerions utiliser les transports en train et louer une voiture pour avoir plus de liberté. Nous sommes plutôt nature que ville mais il y a des villes à ne pas manquer non ? Que me conseillez vous au vu de vos expériences japonaises ? merci à tous.
