I’m looking for a beach spot within 3 hours max of Bangkok for the end of my trip (January). I know full well I won’t find that postcard-perfect vibe of the more remote islands! But I don’t have a choice. If you’ve got any ideas... no high-rises, obviously not Pattaya, somewhere quiet, swimming possible, a hotel right on the beach (and not too dirty, the beach itself!) I’ve looked at hotels around Ko Samet or, across from it, on the mainland. I spotted the Bann Pae Cabana. But nothing really exciting on either side. New ideas welcome! 🙂

Hi everyone, I’m starting to plan my next trip to Southeast Asia this winter (2.5 months, leaving in early December), and here’s a rough outline of my route—I’d love to share it with you and hear your thoughts and tips.

- I’ll start in Bangkok and already have three spots I’ve marked: Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, and Uthai Thani (I haven’t been to any of these places yet). - Next, I’d like to cross the country from west to east to reach the Laos border. I’d love suggestions for any interesting stops along this route—I don’t know this part of Thailand at all... - Then I’ll head into Laos, probably at Savannakhet (you can usually get a visa at the border). - > I’m tempted to spend a week in Hoi An, Vietnam, since I loved that city and the area when I visited two years ago. No visa needed for Vietnam now, so it could be a nice little detour. On the map, it doesn’t look too far, but I know you’ve got to be careful with these things, and I’m not sure if it’s a good idea. Any opinions on this? - Back to Laos (maybe via Dakta), and I’ll head south along the Mekong, probably doing the Bolaven Plateau loop that I missed last time. Then Paksé, the 4,000 Islands... I’ve been before, but I’d happily go back. - Crossing into Cambodia, I’ll follow the Mekong down to Phnom Penh (I know this area and love how untouristy it is). From there, I’ll probably spend a few days in Kep (quieter than Kampot). Still undecided, though. - Then back to Thailand (BKK), likely by plane from Phnom Penh since the borders between the two countries are currently closed (plus, let’s be honest, Cambodian roads... ;-). We’ll see how things look when the time comes. - After that, I’d like to explore southern Thailand, taking it slow with short hops. I’ve got my eye on Khao Sok National Park, and I’ve heard good things about Krabi... Again, I don’t know this region well, so any info or tips would be great.

So, I think this should be doable in 2.5 months, especially since I prefer short hops of 300 km max to avoid getting too tired, and I like staying 2-3 days in each place to explore. Plus, I’ll take a week off to relax if I find a spot I love—maybe by the sea for some real downtime.

Comme d'habitude : 1 billet d'avion , 2 guides papier et le reste se décide sur place . Quelques questions : - A l'arrivée à Vientiane quelqu'un peut il me donner une adresse d'un hôtel ou guest housse pas cher ? - A l'aéroport quelle est la meilleure solution pour rejoindre le centre de Vientiane ? Bus , Taxi ... -Habituellement comment est la météo au mois de novembre ? - Le visa coûte moins cher quand on le prend à l'arrivée mais est ce facile et pas trop long pour l'obtenir ? - Si quelqu'un connaissant bien le Laos peut me donner des idées sur les choses les plus intéressantes à voir en 1 mois avec un petit budget je suis preneur .

Hello, After a lot of searching, exchanging ideas, and thinking it over, I’ve decided to go back to my original plan of spending two weeks in Bangkok. From January 19th to February 2nd. I’ll also take a quick trip for one night/two days to Ayutthaya (and return to Bangkok, where I’ll have kept the apartment I booked), and possibly the same for Kanchanaburi, depending on how I feel once I’m there—whether I find something more interesting in Bangkok or nearby. The key word is: taking my time to take photos, observe, taste, savor (in every sense of the word), and most importantly, not rushing. Beyond the must-see tourist spots, I’d love to wander around the city and maybe within a 40 to 50 km radius for a day trip to discover unusual and lesser-known streets, houses, temples, markets, gardens, and more. I’ll also be spending two weeks in Chiang Mai and two weeks in Nan. I’m open to any suggestions. Thank you so much!

de retour sur le forum, cette fois-ci je sollicite de l'aide des pros de la Thailande pour un avis sur un itinéraire.. Pour planter le décor, ce sera notre première dans un pays asiatique, nous sommes plutôt habitués aux voyages en Europe et l'ouest Américain, donc très peu de connaissance sur le "mode" Asie si ce n'est ce que j'ai lu a droite et à gauche dans les carnets de voyage... Nous envisageons ce voyage en janvier 2021 (ou on est pas en retard, mais pour commencer à regarder les prix des billets d'avion sans tarder, il fallait que j'ai une base...)

A priori, les tarifs des billets d'avion sont beaucoup plus intéressants sur du Lyon (aeroport proche de chez nous) Bangkok, mais pour un premier voyage en Thailande, nous n'avons pas envie de visiter cette énorme mégalopole... Et nous ne savons pas trop si sur le secteur Chiang Mai ou dans le centre et sud, nous pouvons louer une voiture, donc j'ai pour l'instant fait 2 options... Donc, l'itinéraire serait le suivant ...

J1+2 : Vol Lyon - Chiang Mai J3 - 4 - 5 : visite du secteur de Chiang Mai avec location voiture ou excursions avec chauffeur En fin de J5, vol pour Surat Thani ou le matin du J6 (selon horaires et tarifs des vols) J6 : Arrivée à Surat Thani la veille au soir ou le matin - Option location de voiture (je crois qu'il y a Budget à l'aeroport) : route pour Prachuak KK Option train pour monter à Prachuap KK J7 - 8 - 9 : Secteur Prachuap KK + Sam Roi Yot (grotte Phraya Nakhon) Jour 9, si location de voiture, on commence à redescendre ... Si train, jour 9 train de nuit à PKK 23h56 pour arriver le matin du J10 à Surat Thani

J10 : Si voiture, selon où on se sera posé la veille, suite de la route jusqu'au parc National de Khao Sok Si on arrive au train à Surat Thani, transfert à Khao Sok, ou prise d'une location de voiture à Surat Thani car je pense que dans se secteur jusqu'à Krabi, ça ne doit pas être trop dangereux car pas de trop grandes distances (contrairement à la route entre Surat et Prachuap qui est peut-être longue...) J11 : excursion Khao Sok et nuit sur le lac... A voir comment on peut organiser cela, on voudrait quand même quelque chose d'assez confortable sur le lac, faire une balade sur le lac où il y a les grandes falaises et une petite rando dans la jungle mais sans forcément visiter des grottes en marchant dans l'eau... On est pas très aventuriers "Koh Lantha"

J12 : Route (si voiture) ou Transfert sur Krabi au retour de notre nuit sur le lac

J13 - 14 - 15 : Installation Krabi (Ao Nang ?) pour 3 jours, repos et excursions baie de Phang Nga Si voiture, nous la rendrons fin de jour 15

J16 : Speed boat pour Koh Lipe J 17 - 18 : Koh Lipe J19 : Speed Boat pour Krabi - J20 : Vol Krabi - Lyon / Selon tarifs des vols, eventuellement faire un vol Krabi / BKK en fin de J19 et Vol BKK - Lyon si plus interessant

Voilà en gros, merci de me dire si cela semble réalisable... De plus, pensez-vous que nous puissions arriverà boucler avec un budget de maxi 2000 € par personne ?? En tenant compte que nous essayerons de choisir des hébergement de moyenne catégorie, pas de 25 € la nuit mais pas non plus des hebergements de luxe... A priori compter un hebergement assez cher pour la nuit sur le lac de Khao Sok, mais bon... J'ai vu qu'il fallait compter environ 20 € par jour pour une location de voiture, ce qui reste assez cher pour la Thailande, mais je suppose que sans voiture, si on additionne le train et les coûts de tranferts, guide (même si dans certains cas, on aura besoin de guide avec une voiture), cela devrait peut-être nous revenir largement plus cher ??? J'ai aussi pensé au système location de voiture avec chauffeur, mais cela veut dire qu'on aurait besoin de quelqu'un du jour 6 à 12, donc je pense assez cher aussi surtout si on veut un chauffeur qui parle Anglais. Dans ce cas là, les chauffeurs font-il guide en même temps, ou juste chauffeur et qu'on doive à chaque endroit prendre un guide si besoin ?? Désolée pour ces questions qui peuvent paraître bêtes, mais l'Asie est pour l'instant un grand mystère pour nous.

Enfin dernière chose, normalement nous partons seulement à 2 : si nous proposons à des amis de se joindre à nous et que nous sommes 4 ou 6, vaudrait-il le coup de demander à une agence française de nous organiser ce circuit avec chauffeur ? J'ai remarqué que les tarifs des agences sont chères pour 2 personnes mais que le prix baisse considérablement si on est plus nombreux : dans ce cas, avez-vous des agences à me conseiller car en tapant sur Google, il y en a à profusion...

I have a question about the Rome2Rio app. Can you set it up to show routes using the BTS and MRT (for Bangkok) instead of buses or taxis? For example, I’d like to know how long the trip from Chong Nonsi to Bang Khun Non will take, but the app doesn’t suggest the MRT or BTS, even though it’s totally doable. Any tips on how to fix this?

I’m heading to Thailand in February 2025 with my family (my partner and two kids), and we’ll be spending a few days in Khao Sok.

I plan to fly into Surat Thani Airport from Bangkok, but I haven’t booked the flight yet because I can’t find clear, up-to-date info on transportation between the airport and Khao Sok village (we’re staying at Green Mountain View).

If possible, I’d love to find a direct transfer that doesn’t require going through Surat Thani city.

The site https://12go.asia/ has a lot of options, but I’ll admit it’s pretty confusing—especially since I’m not sure which arrival time to pick:



Then there’s a mix of taxi and minivan offers, some with schedules, some without, and some that don’t even match the destination I chose. It’s all a bit overwhelming!

I’ve also read that Phantip Travel offers cheap transfers, but their website doesn’t list Khao Sok as a destination when you select Surat Thani Airport.

Basically, I just want to play it safe—book the right flight with a schedule that makes it easy to get to Khao Sok without any hassle...

Has anyone had a recent experience like this? Thanks so much!

I really loved Thailand, but it was too touristy for my taste. So I'm hesitating about going back and wondering if Cambodia or Vietnam would be less crowded with tourists...

Bonjour, Nous partons à 2 en Thaïlande en janvier 2020 pour un mois, et j'envisage de partager mon séjour en : 2/3 en Issan et 1/3 de plage. Et j'aurai besoin de vos conseils et avis. Nous sommes allés souvent en Thaïlande, mais jamais en janvier....

-En arrivant à Bangkok de France, j'ai déjà réservé un vol Bangkok/ Loeï afin de rejoindre Chiang Khan le même jour. Je compte rester 5 nuits à Chiang Khan, est ce que c'est correct ou est ce que ce n'est pas trop long ? Y-a-t-il des balades aux alentours( à pied ou en scooter)

-Par la suite je prévois de rejoindre Nong Khaï( que je connais déjà) par la route en longeant le Mékong. Est ce que le transport est facile entre Chiang Khan et Nong Khaï? Bus ? Mini van ? Combien de temps de transport en moyenne ?Est ce que ça vaut le coup de faire une halte d'une nuit quelque part entre ces 2 villes ?

-De Nong Khaï, je veux aller et loger à Bueng Khan pour être assez proche du Wat Phu Tuk. Même question que précédemment...Est ce que les moyens de transport sont faciles et fréquents entre ces 2 villes et combien de temps.. ? Pour rejoindre le site du Wat Phu Tuk je suppose qu'il faut passer par une agence ou un guide ? Doit-on prendre obligatoirement un taxi ?

-De Bueng Khan je prévois de rejoindre Udon Thani en bus ou mini van, Est ce faisable ? J'ai lu qu'il fallait environ 3heures... ? A Udon Thani, est ce que le lac aux lotus rouges vaut le déplacement ? Car j'ai vu qu'il n'est pas tout près.

-D'Udon Thani je voulais aller directement vers Krabi par avion, mais il n'y a que le vol vers Phuket qui arrive à 19h. Donc je dois obligatoirement dormir à Phuket. Quel endroit est le mieux pour passer une nuit afin de rejoindre facilement Ko Lanta par le ferry ? J'ai vu qu'il avait plusieurs compagnies, donc quel ferry est le mieux ? Ou bien vaut-il mieux rejoindre Krabi plutôt que Kho Lanta? Ou rester quelques jours sur Phuket... ?

J'ai lu pas mal d'avis mais je suis encore très indécis pour ces destinations plages de Phuket, Krabi, Kho Lanta et quel serait le meilleur «circuit» sur 10 jours, en arrivant par l'aéroport de Phuket et en repartant de Krabi en sachant que je ne veux pas speeder?

J'avais l'habitude de voyager en Thaïlande en juillet, et pour ceux qui connaissent, ma plage préférée pour juillet , était Thong Nai Pan Noï à Kho Phangan, mais c'est la première fois que je voyage en janvier et donc je ne connais pas du tout Phuket ou Krabi. Est ce qu'il est intéressant de rester quelques jours sur Phuket et si oui, quelle plage.... ? Hors Patong ou Kata... et surtout pas pour faire la fête mais un endroit cool( j'ai compris que janvier était la haute saison.....). J'ai entendu parler de Railey ? Freedom beach ? ou d'autres?

Et pour Kho Lanta et Krabi quel est votre plage préférée....?( qui ressemblerait à Tong Naï Pan Noï...!lol).

Our family trip (2 kids, boys aged 6 and 9) is coming up fast, and I have a few questions. I’ve seen that quite a few people on this forum are active about Thailand, so I hope you can help me out :-)

- I have a Free mobile plan with a good amount of data abroad (35GB). Do you know if the Bolt or Grab apps work well with a French SIM? I’ve read that the app might not work if the SIM isn’t Thai, but I’ve also seen French travelers using their SIMs in Thailand, so I’m not sure what to think.

- What tips do you have to avoid traveler’s diarrhea (especially for our 6- and 9-year-olds)? I’m already preparing them to wash their hands often and not put their hands in their mouths or brush their teeth with tap water (they’re still little and might not control the water well in their mouths). Are there certain dishes or food stands to avoid? Are ice cubes really off-limits too?

- We arrive in Bangkok at 9 AM, and we have a French-speaking guided tour scheduled for the next morning (all day). The itinerary isn’t finalized yet with the guide—I need to get back in touch soon. What do you recommend doing on that first day, which might be tiring after the long flight and jet lag? Our hotel has a nice pool, but I’d love for us to get out and explore a bit :-)

- Is the Grand Palace really best visited early in the morning to avoid crowds?

- I’d love to visit a night or floating market, but they’re all on weekends. Unfortunately, we’re in Bangkok from Wednesday to Saturday morning (then we take the train to Ayutthaya in the morning). Is there a market on Friday night? I saw Chatuchak, but Friday night doesn’t seem like the best time—is it still worth going?

I’ve looked for answers to these questions, but I’m either not finding a definitive answer or I’m overwhelmed by all the things to do/see in Bangkok. So, I’m hoping your advice or experiences can help me out!

My husband and I are planning a trip to Thailand from January 2 to 10. Departure from Brussels on January 1 – arriving in Bangkok at 6:00 AM on January 2. Departure from Bangkok on January 11 at 2:00 AM, arriving in Brussels at 1:25 PM the same day. For professional and personal reasons, we can’t extend the trip.

I don’t plan on just lounging on a beach in Phuket, so with 9 days on the ground, I know it’s short... But having done this before in Hong Kong and Shanghai, I know it’s doable, refreshing, and enjoyable. We did it with the kids and included a 2- or 3-day stay at Disneyland in each city. Basically, we spent 5-6 days in each city.

Anyway, I’m reaching out because I’ve heard and read so many conflicting opinions that my head is spinning.

Following the saying, "don’t bite off more than you can chew," I’m assuming I should keep it simple. So I’m torn between just Bangkok or Bangkok and Chiang Mai.

If I go with the second option, I’m debating whether to head straight to Chiang Mai on the day we arrive (but given the flight times, we’d lose pretty much the whole day) or spend two days in Bangkok first, then go to Chiang Mai for 3-4 days, and return to Bangkok.

Je suis actuellement à KohNgai et il n’y a pratiquement personne, c’est à la fois agréable et inquiétant sans parler de la perte économique pour ceux qui vivent du tourisme. En théorie.... je rejoins Bangkok le 26 mars pour repartir à Paris avec la Qatar mais d’ici là....qui sait ?.?

Hi, As the title says, I want to get to Chiang Khong after arriving at Chiang Rai Airport at 7 PM. At that time, there are no more buses. So I’ll have to take a taxi. Should I book it in advance? If so, through which service? Or are there taxis available at the airport? What’s the most cost-effective way? And what’s the approximate fare? Bonjour Voilà mon problème pour fin avril prochain. J'ai calé une visite au park de khao Yai avec Greenleaf et je me retrouve en fin de journée à Pak Chong. Je veux rejoindre Nonk khai ou a defaut Udon Thani pour y être le lendemain. Je n'ai qu'un train à 22h10 avec arrivée Udon à 3h45!!!! Ma question : Y a t il d'autre moyen de transport fiable et si non puis-je trouver un hotel ouvert à 4h00 du matin sachant que je reste quelques jour à Nonk khai pour revenir après sur Bangkok en avion ?

Bonjour, je termine mon voyage en Thaïlande, et en remontant, de Krabi (aonang) a surat t hani (où j'ai mon train), je voudrais m'arrêter au lac. Mais quelle galère pour trouver un moyen de transport. A part les excursions a la journee hors de prix, on ne trouve rien !! J'ai fini par trouver à me faire déposer en route en prenant un voyage pour kao sok (mais même ca il n'y en a pas bcp qui comprennent, ils vont tous akao soi qui est bcp plus loin), je dois ensuite finir en taxi... Et pour le retour ?? Je dois être à surat tani le soir pour le train de nuit. Que conseilleriez vous ? Est ce que j'ai une chance de trouver un transport collectif une fois sur place ? Hi everyone, I’m a die-hard fan of India, but it’s time I discovered Thailand too to broaden my Asian horizons. I’m heading there on January 19, 2025, for a 46-day trip (no visa needed as I’m French). I’ve pored over a few guidebooks and travel blogs. Based on what caught my interest, I’ve put together a rough itinerary and list of sights. But since I know absolutely nothing about Thailand, I’m kind of flying blind here. Since I’m not exactly a spring chicken anymore, I’ve opted for a few bases where I’ll stay several days in the same place. That way, I won’t have to change locations and hotels every day or so, packing and unpacking my suitcase constantly. Instead, I plan to explore the surrounding area each day, within a maximum radius of 50 to 70 km. So, first question: Is that kind of round-trip distance manageable in a day in Thailand? In India, renting a car for a day—with a driver—currently costs around 35 to 40 € per day. Knowing that 1,300 to 1,500 THB would be my absolute max, and even then, only if I don’t rent a car every single day. Which brings me to my second question: Am I being unrealistic? Otherwise—third question—once I’m settled in the city I’ve chosen as my base, can I get around within that 50–70 km radius using public transport? I’ve already booked all my hotels—with free cancellation—on booking.com at an average price of 950/1,000 THB per night. Does that put me in a good range for value for money? Or am I dreaming?

Here’s my plan:

BANGKOK (13 days, 14 nights): 1 week for exploring Bangkok – Kanchanaburi/Erawan National Park? – Ayutthaya/Lopburi? – Muang Boran – Samut – Songkram/Amphawa

Bangkok -> Chiang Mai by overnight train in first-class sleeper

CHIANG MAI (6 days/6 nights): Mae Hong Son – Hot springs – Chiang Dao – caves – Lamphun – other places to be decided on the spot based on what’s worth seeing and transport options

Chiang Mai -> Chiang Rai

CHIANG RAI (7 days/8 nights): Fang – Tha Ton – Chiang Saen – Doi Tung – Chiang Khong – Doi Ang Khang, Phu Chi Fah, etc.

Chiang Rai -> Phrae

PHRAE (4 days/5 nights): Lampang and surrounding areas, depending on what’s interesting to see

Phrae -> Loei

LOEI (4 days/5 nights): Phu Kradung – Chiang Khan and surrounding areas, depending on what’s worth seeing

Loei -> Buriram

PHIMAI (Nakhon Ratchasima/Khorat) (5 days/6 nights): Phimai – Prasat Muang Tam – Phanom Rung – Prasat Phanom Wan

Phimai -> Khorat (airport or train station) -> Bangkok (overnight in Bangkok)

Day 46: BANGKOK -> KOCHI

Nous sommes en famille donc pas un quartier pour la fiesta. Facile d'accès des 2 aéroports car on arrive à suvarnabhumi et on repart de don muang le lendemain.

Avant de réserver des hôtels, j’aimerais bien savoir si notre projet est réaliste. J’ai déjà réservé la 1e nuit à Bangkok et les 5 nuits suivantes dont 3 nuits à Hua Hin pour se remettre du décalage horaire et pour faire quand même un peu de plage et 2 nuits à Phetchaburi pour voir le parc national Kaeng Krachan. Voilà ce que j’imagine pour la suite et où j’ai besoin de vos lumières : revenir à Bangkok et y rester 3-4 jours, puis le pont de la rivière Kwai (1 nuit), ensuite 2 nuits à Ayuttaya, 2 à Sukhotai, 1 à Lampang, 3 à Chiang Rai pour voir le triangle d’or, et pour finir 3 à Chiang Mai d’où nous prenons l’avion pour le Laos. Ce qui fait en tout 15 nuitées à prévoir. Ma question aux connaisseurs : faut-il rester plus longtemps à certaines places et moins à d’autres ? Comment se déplacer d’un endroit à l’autre? D’ores et déjà merci pour les réponses à venir.

Hi there, I’m so glad the VoyageForum is back up. Reading 'Montagnard74’s' Laos trip report (which I read yesterday) made me want to share my own (which I already posted a year ago on another forum). Here’s a little recap of our 3 weeks in northern Laos, plus a few days in Vientiane. By the way, we could easily go back to the north—there’s so much to see and do; probably in a few years.

This was our 3rd trip to Laos after having already done:

1st trip in 2012 (3 weeks), a quick overview: Vientiane Vang Vieng Luang Prabang Plain of Jars

2nd trip in 2017 (1 month): Vientiane all the way to the 4,000 Islands via Thakhek, Kong Lor, the Bolaven Plateau, Savannakhet, Pakse...

Our 2023 itinerary (1 month): Vientiane Luang Prabang Muang Ngoi Nong Khiew Luang Namtha Muang Sing Boten Vang Vieng Vientiane

Some general info (2023): For those who’ve already been to Laos: everything has gone up a lot—I think prices have almost doubled for transport, accommodation, meals... everything. But Laos is still a budget-friendly country for us. As a couple, we spent 1,100 € for a month, all included (and we definitely didn’t skimp on massages :)).

Don’t trust the transport signs posted everywhere—at travel agencies, bus terminals, hotels... THEY’RE ALL WRONG (especially the schedules). They haven’t been updated since before Covid.

There are hardly any bikes for rent anymore, but scooters are easy to find everywhere. We switched our mode of transport toward the end of our stay: from bikes to scooters, which let us go farther. In Vientiane, we only saw one bike rental place, near Ong Teu Pagoda.

BCEL bank doesn’t charge a commission on foreign currency exchanges. Using ATMs is expensive due to fees. Outside Laos, Lao kip are basically worthless. There’s so much inflation that I couldn’t find a single bank or exchange office willing to swap the kip we had left. So, don’t exchange too much toward the end of your trip.

Some little tips from our experience (2023): The Muang Koua to Muang Ngoi boat still runs daily. At the dam, you have to get off and take a bus, then get back on the boat.

The boat from Muang Ngoi to Nong Khiew only leaves at 9:30 AM (don’t miss it or you’ll pay a lot for a private boat). From Nong Khiew to Muang Ngoi, there are at least two boats a day.

From Luang Namtha to Muang Sing: 4 to 5 buses a day, the last one leaves around 3:30 PM.

From Luang Namtha or Muang Sing to Nateuy or Boten (to catch the new train): 3 to 5 buses a day.

The new train is really hard to book—it’s often fully booked 48 hours in advance, even the local train (5 hours from Boten to Vientiane instead of 3 hours on the high-speed train). (That makes it tough to travel day by day, which we love... too bad.) For baggage checks: don’t bring anything flammable (sprays...) or sharp. My mosquito repellent (flammable but in a small plastic bottle) got through. Water bottles and a tiny pocketknife are okay. But it seems to depend on the station.

Some guesthouses prefer to be paid in dollars, otherwise the price is much higher.

If you’re entering Laos from Vietnam via Dien Bien Phu, you have to get your visa at the embassy in Hanoi—otherwise, you’ll be refused at the border (no e-visa or visa on arrival).

Apart from Luang Prabang, Vientiane, and Muang Ngoi/Nong Khiew, there are very few tourists.

Je prépare un voyage de près de trois semaines exclusivement dans le Nord du Laos avec mes parents (arrivée Luang Prabang / retour depuis Vientiane).

Il y a quelques années, nous avions été enchanté par la semaine passée à la rencontre des ethnies peuplant le Nord-Vietnam et souhaiterions revivre ce type d'expérience au Laos.

TREK DANS LA REGION SUD DE PHONGSALY – Massif de l’Elephant (PhuSang) question 2 : Je souhaite éviter (pour des questions de longueur de transport) de me rendre à Phongsaly mais il semble que la région du sud soit accessible depuis BounTai ou NamLy. Quelqu’un qui est passé dans cette région a-t-il des conseils à me donner ? question 3 : Connaissez-vous un guide local francophone ou anglophone susceptible d’organiser un voyage dans cette région ? ou bien une agence à recommander ?question 4 : Si je passe par une agence, à quel endroit est-il préférable que je réserve : PhongSaly, Oudomxai, Muang La, Pak Nam Noy, Boun Tai ?

J9. Fin du TREK - MUANG KOUA - MUANG NGOI en bateau question 5 : Je ne trouve pas beaucoup d’infos mais il semble qu’il n’y ait des départs que le matin vers Muang Ngoi ?

J10. MUANG NGOI question 6 : Plutôt que de dormir deux nuits à Muang Ngoi, je pensais y dormir la première, et passer la seconde dans un village alentour avant de revenir à Muang Ngoi le lendemain et repartir pour Nong Khiaw le même jour. Est-ce envisageable?

VANG VIENG question 8 : En discutant, je trouve des avis très divers sur Vang Vieng, je suis moi-même passé par le Laos en 2012 en venant de Chine et j'avais décidé de continuer vers la Thailande sans descendre plus bas que Luang Prabang. Les commentaires que j'en avais eus par les voyageurs rencontrés étaient souvent très négatifs. Il semble néanmoins que depuis quelques années il y a eu un effort de la part du gouvernement pour transformer ce bourg en coin paisible... Je trouve aujourd'hui de très bons avis avec des personnes qui ont trouvé les alentours de Vang Vieng très beaux et toujours "authentiques"... On pensait donc y consacrer une ou deux journée à se balader dans la campagne environnante. Et vous, vous y retournerez ?

question 9 : Sinon, entre LP et Vientiane, avez-vous d'autres coins à nous recommander? Ou bien une route particulière à emprunter pour profiter des paysages et d’arrêts le long du chemin ?

Venant de koh-lanta, je vais me rendre à Krabi town ( le ferry étant au matin, c'est ce que je voulais..)

Je me demandais ensuite du pier de krabi town , ou dois je prendre le bateau ou longtail pour Railay beach? y'a t'il différends endroit sachant que le ferry de koh lanta arrive vers 10h30 je crois.

Hello, it’s been a while since I last asked for your help on this forum—I’ve really missed it! I hope you’re all doing well, whether you're new or returning members.

I’m planning a trip from February 6 to 18, 2027, with my sister (we’re 47 and 50—time flies!). I’ve got my eye on a flight from Paris that lands in Bangkok on February 7 at 3 PM, with a return flight from Bangkok on February 18 at noon.

My sister has never been to this destination, and it’ll be her first time in Asia. Her priorities: beaches, sunshine, and cocktails by the shore. For me, I love that too, but I also enjoy exploring, nature, forests, and a bit of comfort (mixing guesthouses and higher-end hotels with pools). A little evening entertainment would be great, but not too much—good cocktails in a nice atmosphere rather than a rave party ;-). And I can’t help but dream of taking her on a little trek through a tropical forest (guaranteed memories and laughs, though she might curse me at the time) and showing her some karst landscapes.

I’ve been to Thailand before, but it was 15 years ago...

The idea is to give her a taste of Bangkok for 1 or 2 nights, a few days on an island (but which one...?), a tropical forest excursion with 1 or 2 nights on-site (Khao Sok?), and then back to Bangkok.

For the "main" island, even after reading the *Guide du Routard*, I’m still undecided. It’s hard to find a place that ticks all the boxes without feeling as crowded as the French Riviera in August: Koh Lanta? Khao Lak (though it’s not an island)? Koh Tao (I could maybe get my PADI certification, but I’m afraid she’d get bored, and it might be better to save that for a solo trip)? Koh Yao Yai (I worry we’d be bored in the evenings)? What a dilemma!

For those wondering about driving: no problem at all. The road network is excellent, with plenty of four-lane highways. Driving is easy if you're careful. Avoid driving at night and stay alert around two-wheelers. I’ve been driving there since 2016—I’m no spring chicken—and I’ve covered Thailand from north to south and east to west, even Bangkok. Maps.me and vigilance are all you need... It gives you incredible freedom and lets you discover places that aren’t too crowded yet.
