Bonjour, J'ai trouvé un appart-hotel dans le quartier d'asakusa. Les commentaires sont très positifs, il offre l'avantage d'avoir du personnel dans les lieux en cas de problème mais offre également une plus grande liberté (pas d'obligation d'aller manger au resto tous les jours) avec sa cuisine et une machine à laver, supermarché à proximité. Bref, ma question est la suivante: l'hotel se situe à 500 mètres d'une station de métro mais pas à proximité d'une gare. Est-ce vraiment gênant sachant que j'ai prévu de visiter Tokyo mais également ses alentours? Je n'ai pas encore d'itinéraire précis en tête mais je sais déjà que je passerai la moitié de mon voyage à visiter Tokyo et alentours avant de me rendre à Kyoto pour visiter la ville et également les alentours. Et je souhaite déjà réserver mes pieds-à-terre dans ces deux villes pour plus de sécurité. Merci

I’m looking for advice from seasoned travelers about a roughly one-month trip to Japan. From late October to late November 2026.

We often travel in Southeast Asia but have never been to Japan. Based on what I’ve read, I’d love to hear your thoughts on:

- Is traveling day-to-day, without booking hotels or trains in advance, possible in Japan? (I’ve read many travel journals and blogs that say everything was booked way in advance… but that’s not how we usually travel.)

- Will the Japan Rail Pass be worth it for us? (According to an old simulator, I’m looking at around 400 € for trains compared to 570 € for the JRP.)

Here’s our rough itinerary (which may change):

- Arrival Osaka: 3 nights with Nara - Hiroshima and Miyajima Island: 3 nights - Kurashiki or Naoshima: 2 nights - Himeji: 1 night - Kyoto: 4 nights - Kanazawa: 2 nights - Takayama and Shirakawa-go: 3 nights - Around Mount Fuji: 3 nights - Tokyo with Nikko: 6 nights (no theme parks) Departure from Tokyo

Here are the routes I’m considering:

**Option 1: More mountain and nature-focused**

Tokyo: 8 nights, with day trips to Nikko and maybe the Izu Peninsula Kawaguchiko (Lake Kawaguchi/Mt. Fuji): 1 night. The place looks stunning, but I’m worried Mt. Fuji might not be visible due to the weather Kyoto: 6–7 nights (including a trip to Nara) Osaka: 1–2 nights, where I’d like to drop off my things to make the Kumano Kodo easier Kumano Kodo: 3 nights—an experience I haven’t seen much elsewhere, but I thought it sounded really interesting Hiroshima: 2 nights Miyajima: 1 night Takayama: 3 days Kanazawa: 3 days (From what I understand, the Osaka–Takayama–Kanazawa–Tokyo route is convenient for transport) Tokyo: 1 night (return)

**Option 2: More varied but a bit vague in parts**

Tokyo: 8 nights Kyoto: 7 nights (+ Nara) Osaka: 2 nights Kobe + Himeji: just passing through—I’m not sure if it’s worth a night Naoshima: 1 night—still pretty unclear for me Takamatsu: 2 nights. An interesting city, but I’m not sure how long to stay Shimanami Kaido: biking from Imabari to Onomichi, then heading to Hiroshima Hiroshima: 2 nights Miyajima: 1 night Kyushu road trip (Aso + onsens + Fukuoka): 5 nights (also pretty vague—I could fly from Fukuoka back to Tokyo) Tokyo: 1 night

**Option 3: More balanced/simplified**

Tokyo: 8 nights Kawaguchiko: 1 night Kyoto: 7 nights (+ Nara) Osaka: 2 nights Koya-san: 1 night Kumano Kodo: 3 nights Takayama: 3 nights Kanazawa: 3 nights Tokyo: 1 night

A few key points: I haven’t made any reservations yet, except for the flight tickets. I know my plans are too packed and will need to be adjusted. I’m specifically looking for advice on which stops to cut or shorten.

24 avril: Départ le matin pour Tanabe, puis Hongu: Kumano Kodo. 2 nuits / 1,5 jour sur place.

26 avril: Départ le matin de Hongu pour Osaka. Visite de la ville. 1 nuit (départ le 27 au matin).

Nous savons que pour beaucoup Tokyo est l'endroit à ne pas manquer, mais actuellement ce qui nous intéresse ce sont les temples, la nature, les villages, etc. C'est donc un choix conscient que nous avons fait pour ce premier voyage de ne pas aller jusque là-bas...

Nous aimerions partir au Japon en septembre prochain et si possible sans agence! Nous avons déjà beaucoup voyagé à travers le monde de cette manière mais, nous étions beaucoup plus jeunes et ''ce n'était pas au Japon''. Mes questions sont d'ordres pratiques, à savoir : Le Japon se visite de manière itinérante, donc refaire les bagages tous les deux ou trois jours et prendre le train ou le bus etc, ! Si l'on se trouve à Tokyo par exemple, comment fait 'on ? un taxi , un bus ou autre mais pour se rendre où et à quel endroit ? Il doit y avoir une multitude de gares ou d'arrêts de bus dans cette immense ville ou l'anglais n'est pas courant ? Ne perdons nous pas trop de temps à chercher ce que l'on doit faire et comment le faire ? Est-ce vraiment pratique pour des personnes de 70 ans , même si l'on est en pleine forme… C'est vraiment la chose qui me turlupine, c'est devoir être sur le trottoir sans vraiment être sur de trouver de l'aide et de se perdre . Le Japon, ce n'est pas New-York ou Paris voir même Bangkok, c'est vraiment un endroit des plus dépaysant qui ne ressemble à aucun autre endroit dans le monde. Je voulais ajouter que nous sommes très très visite, nous prenons tout notre temps pour chaque endroit donc les voyages en groupe ne sont pas notre tasse de thé ! Bref ... Hi there, My girlfriend (23) and I (24) are heading to Japan for the first time from October 20th to November 6th. Here’s our itinerary:

6 nights in Tokyo 1 night in Hakone (ryokan already booked) 4 nights in Kyoto (hotel already booked) 2 nights in Osaka 4 nights back in Tokyo I’d like to book hotels for Tokyo (both stays) and Osaka, but I’ve gotten so many different recommendations.

I’ve read that Shinjuku is the place to be for its huge hub, accessibility, and things to do, but I’ve also heard about Shibuya, Asakusa, and Ueno. I’ve looked at hotels, and first off, I’m surprised by the prices compared to what I’ve seen on forums (I guess inflation’s hit here too… and maybe I’m late to the booking game?). I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the options.

For our first stay in Tokyo, I’d prefer a hotel (not a residence or Airbnb) since we’ll be arriving at night, and it’s our first time in Japan. It’d be great to have a place with a reception, staff who speak at least a little English, and can give us some guidance. For the second stay, we could consider other options if it’s better. Budget-wise, we can go up to 150–180 € per night, but if we can save some money to spend elsewhere, that’d be amazing!

I’m open to all recommendations, hotel suggestions, or any other tips for Tokyo (first stay), Osaka, and Tokyo (second stay).

I’ve tried to balance things so we can see as much as possible while still giving them time to enjoy the evenings. Here’s what I’ve come up with: - Arrival in Tokyo on May 17 - Staying in Tokyo from May 17 to 22, exploring the city, with a day trip to Nikko (round trip in one day): is it worth it, considering it’s a 2-hour train ride each way? - Sending our big suitcases directly to Osaka - Traveling to Kamakura on May 23: 1 night (with small luggage) - Traveling to Hakone on May 24: 1 night (with small luggage) - Heading to Osaka on May 25: staying from May 25 to June 2 in Osaka, where we’ll pick up our big suitcases Day trips from Osaka: - Kyoto: 2 days (round trip in one day) - Nara: 1 day (round trip in one day) My son would prefer to stay in Osaka for all 8 days, but I’m wondering if it’s a good idea to spend at least one night in Kyoto. What do you think? - Leaving for Himeji on June 3: is it possible to leave both big and small luggage in a coin locker to visit the castle, or is it better to do a round trip from Osaka? - Traveling to Hiroshima: 3 nights from June 3 to 5: - Hiroshima: 1 day - Miyajima: 1 day - Okayama and Kurashiki: 1 day: is it better to do a round trip from Hiroshima and return to Tokyo from there, or spend the night of June 5 in Okayama and head to Tokyo from there? - Back to Tokyo from June 6 to 9, with departure on the morning of June 9. I just lightened my wallet by 3000 € for 3 tickets: Paris > Tokyo > Osaka > Paris (well, not just mine—I’m exaggerating, there are two of us). For my daughter’s 10th birthday, we’re heading to Japan—it’s her "decade gift," though I thought she’d pick London🏴‍☠️. But I’ve been dreaming of going back to Japan since my 2013 trip, so I’ll admit this trip is (a lot) for me too. We’re traveling during school holidays, so the ticket prices are unfortunately sky-high. Maybe I could’ve gotten a better deal if I’d waited, but who knows... oh well, it’s done now. We leave at the end of October, so we still have a few months to prepare. That said, I’d rather start early to make sure we don’t miss anything (like the Ghibli Museum—I couldn’t go last time, and anyway, I’ll have to wait until September to book). Last time, there were three adults, so it was pretty straightforward. Eleven years later, well, now it’s two adults with a 10-year-old😛.

So I’m wondering how many days to spend in Tokyo. My daughter idealizes the city (that’s why she wants to go to Japan), and she’s really drawn to Japanese culture and food. Actually, what first got her interested in Japan were all the *kawaii* character products... Tokyo is such a fascinating city, but it can also be exhausting—especially for a kid, and I’m not sure what to expect. Beyond Tokyo, honestly, I’m not entirely sure. I was thinking of Hakone and maybe stopping by Fujikyu Highlands. Then heading down to Osaka for a few days in Kyoto before flying home (our return flight is from Osaka). We only have 11 days there (not counting the arrival day, and since our flight leaves at 11:30 PM on departure day, we’ll have the whole day), so it’s not a ton of time. I already spent a week in Kyoto on my last trip (huge crush on it), and I’d love to have two months there, but... well, you know how it is.

For example: 5 days in Tokyo 2 days in Hakone 4 days in Osaka/Kyoto

What do you think? If you’ve done this trip with kids, do you have any tips for family-friendly accommodations in Tokyo and Hakone? My daughter would love to try an onsen. We have a decent budget, but it’s not unlimited. We’d like to book as we go to spread out the costs a bit.

We’re arriving as a group of three in Tokyo on Saturday, October 17th, then heading straight to Kyoto by direct train. On Sunday and Monday, we’ll explore Kyoto, and in the evening, we’ll take a train to Osaka to spend the night. On Tuesday, we’ll pick up a rental car at Itami Airport for a 6-day/5-night road trip around Shikoku: - 2 nights in the Iya Valley - Thursday morning, we’ll head to Matsuyama for 2 nights. - Saturday, we’ll visit Mima (town, a few temples + overnight stay) and return on Sunday to drop off the car in Osaka. We’ll leave very early on Monday the 26th by plane for Aomori in northern Honshu, where we’ll pick up another rental car at the airport for a 5-day/4-night trip: - Day 1: Tsugaru Peninsula (Takayam Inari, Cape Tappi, Kanita); overnight in Kanita - Day 2: Ferry transfer to the Mutsu Peninsula (cliffs, Lake Usori); overnight in Shimofuro - Day 3: Head to the Hakkoda Mountains and onsens galore; overnight TBD - Day 4: Return the car in Aomori by noon and explore the city before taking the train to Tokyo in the evening We’ll spend Friday night in Tokyo, wander around on Saturday, and head home on Sunday.

Thoughts on the road feasibility of this trip? We’ll be there right in the middle of Koyo season, so it’ll be busy... I know it’s a lot of driving, but there are two of us who can take turns. We’re not afraid of driving, even in the mountains and on the left side! Just wondering, are we going to be rushing, or is this manageable? AI says it’s all good, but it’s not the one driving... Any tips for booking accommodations in the Iya Valley? Not many places have email addresses or websites (I know Booking.com exists, but not all listings are on there... and given the season, I think it’s better to book ahead!). Same question applies for northern Honshu. For the rental car, I’m thinking of going with Alamo since at least it’s in French and straightforward, but are there any direct rental companies with user-friendly websites (Toyota Rentacar, ugh... 🏴‍☠️)? Another question: With so many trains, is it even necessary to book them in advance? Can we just go to the ticket counter and grab seats on the spot? For paying for the rental car, do we need a credit or debit card?

I’m planning to return to Japan for 15 days in April. This will be my second trip there. I’m starting to think about my itinerary.

I arrive in Tokyo in the evening and will spend one night there before taking the train to Hiroshima. I’ll stay in Hiroshima for 2 nights. Then, I’m heading to Kyoto (there are still so many beautiful things I want to see there), and I think I’ll stay for 3 nights. I also want to go back to Nara to visit the Pink Temple (probably in the morning before heading back to Kyoto).

And after that? I’d like to return to Hakone to try and catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji (I didn’t see it last time—it was cloudy). I’m thinking of staying one night there, probably in Odawara.

And then? I’ll head back to Tokyo and take the train to explore the surrounding areas and spend the day at some sites?

While in Tokyo, I want to visit Yokohama. I went to Kamakura last time and really loved it, but I don’t think I’ll go back.

I’ll end my trip in Tokyo, with my second-to-last night at the Muji Hotel and my last night near the airport.

That’s the plan so far—I’m open to your suggestions and itinerary tips!

I’m reaching out to you because I’m planning our next big trip (Japan is really tempting us for the autumn!) and I have to admit, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed.

My husband and I have always loved traveling, and at 75, we have no intention of stopping... But I find that everything’s getting so complicated. I try to be "modern" by booking online, but as soon as there’s a problem, we hit a wall.

A friend nearly missed her departure last year because of a visa issue that wasn’t explained properly on a website... and no one to call for help, just automated messages.

It makes me a little nervous to be alone in front of a screen so far away, especially since at our age, we like knowing there’s real support if our health takes a turn while we’re there.

Anyway, I’m tired of seeing my file passed from one person to another without ever having the same contact... Do you know of any small, trustworthy agencies or people who still work the "old-fashioned" way and really look after their clients? I love my independence, but I need a real face behind my project.

en recherchant déjà sur booking, nous avons trouvé une petite villa de 80 m² très proche de la gare de Shibuya avec deux chambres, sdb, salon, cuisine, ect... le propriétaire nous en demande 100 € / nuit, pensez vous que ce soit une bonne affaire, ou est ce que nous pouvons encore attendre un peu, pour peut être trouver une meilleur affaire !

Bonjour à tous je prépare mon deuxième voyage au Japon qui se fera fin juin/deux premières semaines de juillet 2020 pour un total de 3 semaines. Destination Kyushu et Okinawa - par précaution nous commencerons par quelques jours sur Okinawa. Nous atterrissons directement à Fukuoka (sur Finnair via Helsinki) et repartons de même (sur JAL via Tokyo). Je sais que ce n'est pas la période idéale il risque de pleuvoir et d'y avoir peut être des typhons, mais nous ferons avec :) Avez vous des conseils ? mon compagnon est plus âgé que moi (il a 71 ans) et je voudrais éviter de trop bouger sur les îles (je préfère faire des haltes en général de 3 jours pour profiter des endroits que nous visitons). En même temps pour Okinawa ne pas m'éloigner de l'île principale est dommage - mais j'ai du mal à mettre en place un itinéraire avec des vols internes par exemple vers Miyakijima qui ne coutent pas trop chers. Je pensais pouvoir partir de Fukuoka et revenir à Kagoshima (point de départ de nos visites de Kyushu) mais j'ai l'impression que ce n'est pas possible. Je n'arrive pas à voir si c'est possible d'arriver à Miyakijima en partant de Fukuoka, et repartir de Naha vers le Kyushu. Par ailleurs - sur le site de la compagnie Peach les vols ne sont déjà plus disponibles, est-ce que c'est parce que les réservations ne sont pas encore ouvertes ou qu'il n'y a déjà plus de place ? Ce sont beaucoup de questions qui recoupent certainement d'autres discussions, je suis désolée. Merci par avance et bonne soirée !

I’m planning a trip to Japan from May 11 to 26 with Air China.

I’ll be taking Ouigo from Lyon for both the outbound and return trips to get to Roissy CDG.

For the outbound TGV from Lyon, I’ll arrive at Roissy with plenty of time—at least 6 or 7 hours before my 8:30 PM flight (Paris to Beijing, then Beijing to Tokyo). For the return on May 26, I was wondering what time you’d recommend booking my train to Lyon, given that I’ll land at CDG at 7:30 AM (flight from Tokyo). I was thinking of booking a train leaving at 11:00 AM from the SNCF station at CDG to Lyon Saint-Exupéry—does that seem too tight based on your experience?

This is my first time traveling this far with a layover in Beijing, and I’m not familiar with Roissy CDG Airport at all.

Voiture : - en dehors des grandes villes, est-ce que les trajets se font facilement (facilité de conduite, monde sur la route)? - Qu'en est-il du prix des péages (cher ou pas? péages que sur certains tronçons?)? - pour passer entre certaines îles j'ai vu qu'il fallait prendre des ferry : est-ce qu'ils sont assez régulier de manière à pouvoir arriver sur place sans devoir anticiper la réservation de billets? Et auriez-vous des exemples de prix (personne + voiture)?

Logements : - nous avons l'habitude de réserver au dernier moment nos logements de manière à pouvoir adapter notre itinéraire sans trop de contraintes. Est-ce possible au japon de choisir les logements le jour d'avant ou le jour même assez facilement? Y a t'il suffisamment de choix?

Dés notre arrivée à Tokyo, 10h50 pourrons nous avoir nos bagages ( s'ils ne sont pas restés à notre escale de 30mn à Munich, cf ma discussion précédente 😕 ) le même jour à l'appart que nous avons réservé? nous voudrions visiter l'aéroport d' Haneda les mains libres? et puis c'est mieux de voyager sans bagages...

Pour le déplacement Tokyo - Takayama même question? et les autres déplacements ?

We’ll wrap up with 3 days on Yakushima, but we’re planning to fly back to Osaka from Tanegashima after stopping by the space center. To get from Yakushima to Tanegashima, I’ve found two options: - Depart from Miyanoura port and go to Shimama with the Taiyo II ferry, but it arrives a bit too late for us (it gets in at 10:05 AM, and we need to be at the space center by 10:30 AM…) - Depart from Anbo port, but in that case, the boat goes to Nishinoomote, which is all the way at the north of the island—super inconvenient since the space center is at the very south!

Does anyone here know if there’s another way to make the Miyanoura/Shimama trip besides the Taiyo II ferry (like a private boat, a fisherman’s boat, or something else)? It feels silly to go all the way to the north of the island just to head right back down…

So happy to be back here !

I’m currently planning our first trip to Japan. We’ll be traveling with our two teens, aged 16 and 17. We’re doing a pretty classic loop, but I’d still love to hear your valuable input.

Here’s the itinerary we’re considering:

- Tokyo (5 full days) - Fuji Yoshida (1 night) - Matsumoto (1 night) - Kamikochi / Gokayama (1 night) - Kanazawa (1 night) - Ine (1 night) - Himeji - Kyoto (5 full days)

We’re thinking of renting a car for the Japanese Alps portion.

We’re planning a 3-week trip, so I still have a few days to allocate—maybe in the Japanese Alps.

What do you think of the itinerary? The detour to Ine might seem odd, but I really want to include a coastal part—any thoughts? Is renting a car in Japan a total hassle?

And finally, is it absolutely necessary to book all accommodations in advance if we’re traveling in August? Or can I leave some flexibility for the Kanazawa / Ine / Himeji portion? Maybe if we really love a place and want to stay longer?

Bonjour, Nous faisons un trip/voyage Asie fin avril (on est 2 en couple, avec un sac à dos) JAPON > CORÉE DU SUD > CHINE. Sur env 3 semaines. Nous voulons passer d'un pays à l'autre en bateau, de préférence un ferry, de nuit. On a l'impression que le bateau de nuit entre FUKUOKA et BUSAN n'était plus ? Idem pour celui entre SAKAIMINATO et DONGHAE ?

De même, pour quitter la CORÉE vers la CHINE, depuis INCHEON ou PYEONGTAEK, il semblerait que des lignes de ferry n'existent plus ?

Quelqu'un a circulé récemment sur ces lignes ? Des infos ? Merci par avance pour vos réponses et commentaires.

Nous avons déjà visité Tokyo l'été dernier. Nous sommes tombes amoureux du Japon et nous aimerions visiter de nouveaux lieux chargés d'histoire et un peu plus authentique. Savez vous s'il est complique de louer une voiture ? Comment ça se passe par rapport au parking ? Nous savons déjà que nous devons modifier le permis avant de pouvoir l'utiliser. Bonjour à toutes et tous ! 🙂 Mon ami et moi prévoyons un voyage au Japon l'année prochaine (première fois !). Je commence à peine l'organisation du voyage et suis donc à la recherche de plein d'infos, avis, retours d'expériences... 😇

Je vous explique : l'idée serait de partir 3 semaines fin avril/début mai. Nous souhaitons profiter du voyage pour voir le plus de choses possibles mais nous ne voulons pas passer notre temps à changer d'hôtel ou à faire des "sauts de puce" avec nos valises. Nous avons déjà voyagé sur ce mode et cela devient trop fatiguant.

Nous avions donc en tête de diviser le voyage en deux, avec un premier hotel à Tokyo et un second à Kyoto. De là l'idée serait de faire des excursions à la journée en train avec le Japan Rail Pass (pris pour 14 jours entre le J8 et le J21).

Que pensez-vous de cette idée de ne faire que 2 lieux de résidence (Tokyo/Kyoto) ? Cela semble-t-il faisable, pratique, pertinent ? Les excursions prévues sont-elles facilement accessibles en train ? Que pensez-vous des excursions justement, certaines ne valent-elles pas le coup ? d'autres manquent-elles ? Avez-vous des conseils sur des activités à faire sur place ? Type spectacle de Geisha, combat de sumo...

Je ne vais pas être original, dans ma demande. Nous avons décidé de visiter le Japon et c'est la 1ère fois que nous allons faire ce voyage. J'ai déjà réalisé moi-même un road trip dans l'ouest des USA, en août 2016. Nous sommes un couple (la cinquantaine), avec une fille de 14 ans (fan de mangas). Je suis un peu perdu dans le choix du parcours et des lieux à voir. Ne connaissant pas le Japon, nous souhaitons un parcours un peu classique (avec ado). Nous souhaitons partir du 2 août au 19 août 2020. Nous pouvons rajouter le 20 août si besoin. En première intention, j’ai pensé à ce type de parcours - Le 2 août, vol Genève – Tokyo - Le 3 août, arrivée à Tokyo - Du 3 au 8 août Tokyo (5 nuits) - Du 8 au 9 août Hakone (1 nuit) - Du 9 au 14 août Kyoto (5 nuits) - Du 14 au 16 août Hiroshima (2 nuits) - Du 16 au 19 août Osaka (3 nuits) - Le 19 août, départ pour Genève Il me reste à définir, les sites précis à visiter, le rythme, le mode de logement, de transport, choix d’un guide, restauration, etc… Il me semble que début août, il y a encore les jeux olympiques à Tokyo.
