Where can we find accommodation close to a pretty beach that's not too touristy but not isolated either, near a small town or village? We've already been to Surin Beach on Phuket Island. We’re planning our second trip to Thailand (2 weeks on-site, late April/early May) as a family with our 5- and 7-year-olds.

On our first trip, we visited Bangkok, Ayutthaya, the River Kwai, Koh Lipe, Koh Phi Phi, and Khao Lak. We especially loved Koh Phi Phi for its limestone cliffs and lush vegetation, as well as Koh Lipe for its crystal-clear waters and snorkeling.

This time, I’m thinking of spending 7 days on the islands. I was considering Koh Tao and Koh Phangan. We’d like some scenery, snorkeling right from the beach, and a bit of atmosphere—but not too much (just enough to grab dinner in the evening).

For the other part of the trip, we’re torn between Chiang Mai and Khao Sok. One or the other… or both? We don’t want to rush, but we’re really nature-focused, so we won’t be hitting too many temples…

Hello, We’re heading to Thailand for 26 days (excluding flights) next July with our two teens (12 and 15 years old). My husband and I have been there several times before they were born—so that’s 15 years ago—and I’m a bit worried about some of the changes that might have happened since, especially with the rise in tourism... I’d also like to keep a pace that allows us to settle in a bit and enjoy local life beyond just the main sights. Plus, we’re pretty active. For now, our plan looks like this:

Arrival in Bangkok, where we’re thinking of spending several days (minimum 4) Chiang Mai for about a week 2 or 3 islands in the Gulf Return to Bangkok for 2 days before departure.

We’re pretty set on Bangkok and Chiang Mai, but we’re unsure about which islands to visit—I’ve read such mixed things that I’m even wondering if we should consider the coast instead. Organization-wise, I’d love any tips or feedback on whether we need to book in advance at this time of year, which transport options to prioritize (train, bus, or plane), and of course, any suggestions for stops or routes. My husband and I are heading to Thailand with our two boys on July 8th. We’ll be moving around: Bangkok (3 nights), Ayutthaya (1 night), Chiang Mai (4 nights), Koh Samui (4 nights), and Koh Phangan (3 nights). We have a flight from Koh Samui to Bangkok in the afternoon the day before our return to France, arriving around 5 PM in Bangkok (it’ll be a Friday). I’m still wondering where to stay in Bangkok for this last night in Thailand. Initially, I thought about booking a hotel near the international airport, but I figured there might not be much to do there... maybe we’ll want one last crowd-filled night at a food market? So, I considered booking a hotel near the metro instead, for easy access to the airport the next morning, while still being central enough to go out for our last evening before heading back to France.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this :-) And if you lean toward the second option, which neighborhood/hotel would you recommend?

Bonjour, Confinement oblige, j'essaie d'organiser tranquillement mes vacances de l'année prochaine (et oui faut bien s'occuper!). Nous aimerions faire la Thaïlande car par un gros budget mais envie de rêver. Nous avons prévu de partir 15 jours en mars en arrivant à Bangkok, y rester 2 jours puis faire 1 île et revenir sur Bangkok encore 2 jours. Je précise que nous serons 2 adultes et 1 enfant de 5 ans. J'ai fais beaucoup de recherches et je n'arrive pas à me décider sur une île ! Nous aimerions ne pas être gêné par une musique assourdissante, des plages magnifiques mais aussi faire des visites car pas la peine de faire tout ce voyage si c'est juste pour glandouiller sur la plage... Voyageant avec un enfant l'idéal serait de pas trop galerer afin d'accéder à cette île! Je sais j'en demande beaucoup mais il doit bien y avoir une île qui regroupe la plupart de ces critères ! Du coup je voudrais bien un peu d'aide s'il vous plaît 🤗

Bonjour je suis en train de préparer mon premier voyage pour la thaîIande nous partons en famille au mois de février pendant 3 semaines et demi avec ma femme et ma fille de 4 ans j'oriente mon voyage itinérant pour que ma fille se sente bien, c'est ma priorité donc je compte ne pas trop passer de temps dans les transports fatiguants: en arrivant nous passerions quelques jour à Bangkok por s'acclimater puis ne pas trop s'éloigner de Bangkok pour -partir voir les anciennes ruines AYUTTHAYA en bus où train? -ensuite à suivre partir dans la region KANCHANABURI en bus où train? voir les casacades du parc d'erawan puis je voulais aller dans un lieu style Ganesha parc où l'on voudrais aussi pouvoir dormir sur place et s'occuper d'éléphant ma grande question est que je voulais savoir si il y a une alternative (cette question a déjà été posé il y a 4 ans mais la réponse était dans la region de chiang mai mais moi je voulais savoir proche de kachanabury...) car il est devenu excessif pour moi avec le cours du bath c'est 190 euros par personne adultes pour 2 nuits et une journée sur place tout compris sauf boisson ce qui arriverait à presque 500 euros pour nous 3 sans compter le taxi...

Ensuite nous voudrions pour la fin du séjour soit + d'une dizaine de jour partir pour le sud louer un bungalow sur la plage en pleine nature... faut il repasser par bangkok pour prendre l'avion où y a t-il un aéroport à kachanabury pour des vols vers le sud ? -nous pensions au îles comme ko tao, où ko pha ngan où Samui pour que ma fille puisse profiter de la plage mais il est vrai que l'on ne m'as pas dit que du bien car c'est peu représentatif de la thaîlande et très touristique... Si quelqu'un a d'autre lieu et bon plan intéréssant je suis ouvert à tous conseil d'expérience dans le sud de la thaîlande avec un enfant,

Hi everyone, I know my post might sound a bit repetitive with the questions asked regularly on this forum, but I’m feeling a little lost and thought I’d still ask for your help. Here’s my situation: I’m traveling to Thailand with my wife and 12-year-old son during the February 2025 school holidays. We’ll be spending 12 nights in the country. So far, I only have our flight tickets to and from Phuket. Now, I need to plan an itinerary that lets us discover beautiful places and the culture of this country. I’d like to stay by the sea, with stunning fine-sand beaches and breathtaking landscapes in areas that aren’t too urban, but also be able to see some beautiful monuments, typical villages, and wildlife not too far away. That said, I don’t want to be lost deep in the jungle either—I’d like a bit of atmosphere in the evenings (no nightclubs, but rather nice bars with music). I’ve done some research and here’s a first draft of what I might do:

Spend my first 3 nights in the suburbs of Phuket to explore the city and the province more broadly, Then head to Ko Yao Noi for 2 nights to discover the charms of Phang Nga Bay, Next, fly from Krabi to spend 4 nights on Koh Samui (maybe with a little excursion to Ko Pha Ngan?), Then fly back to Krabi to reach Koh Phi Phi for 2 nights, Finally, return to the Phuket area for my last night in Thailand to be close for my flight the next day.

The idea is to explore several places without having to pack and unpack every day, and to avoid spending hours on transport every day. What do you think? Do the places seem relevant? If so, does the number of nights seem appropriate? Thanks in advance for your help, Best regards, Lionel

I’m heading back to Thailand soon, and from what I’ve been reading, it seems some beaches/islands are infested with these dreaded sandflies!

I’ve noted the remedy: rub the bitten area with 90% alcohol, then apply soothing cream.

But prevention is better than cure!

Which areas should I avoid right now?

Are there seasons that are more prone to these itchy invasions than others?

I’ve already stayed in Hua Hin, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, Krabi, and Phuket without any issues like this.

I’d love to keep it that way...

Hi there, I’m heading to Thailand at the end of June (I know it’s not the best time, but I don’t have a choice) for three and a half weeks, and I’d love your advice on the itinerary. I’d like to visit Koh Lanta, Ko Lipe, Ko Chang, and Ko Kood. What do you think is the ideal order based on the travel logistics? My initial plan was this, after a night in Bangkok to recover from the flight: 1: Flight Bangkok – Krabi, then boat Krabi – Koh Lanta 2: Boat Koh Lanta – Ko Lipe 3: Boat Koh Lanta – Krabi, then flight Krabi – Bangkok, then flight Bangkok – Trat, and finally boat Trat – Ko Chang (quite a long day!) 4: Boat Ko Chang – Ko Kood 5: Boat Ko Kood – Trat, then flight Trat – Bangkok for the return trip.

Is there a better order or a more efficient way to organize this? (For example, starting with Ko Lipe from Hat Yai and then taking a boat to Koh Lanta?) Anyway, thanks in advance for your thoughts and tips, and have a great weekend!

Ça fait un moment que je ne suis pas retourné sur le coin et je m'interroge sur la régularité/ponctualité des trajets : une arrivée à l'aéroport 1h avant le vol, est-ce suffisant ?

Une des compagnies (Lomprayah, Rajah, Phantip) est-elle plus fiable qu'une autre ?

I’m planning my trip for July–August 2025. After Bangkok and the Chiang Mai area, we’re heading to Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. I read on Le Routard that the water level is low during this period. On Koh Phangan, I’d like to stay on the west/northwest side of the island (Koh Ma? Haad Khom?) Could you let me know what the water level is like there? Will we be able to swim during this period? And if you have any beach/hotel recommendations for Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, that’d be great! Thanks!

Hi everyone, we’ll be in Thailand from August 2nd to 21st, arriving in Bangkok on the 2nd for a visit. From the 5th to the 8th: Angkor temples. Then, starting on the 9th, we’re planning to head to Chiang Mai, and by the 14th or 15th, we’d like to be on an island until the 19th, when we return to Bangkok. Five days in Chiang Mai seems a bit long to us. What do you recommend between the 9th and 15th, and which island? We’re not big fans of sunbathing—we’d love to snorkel and explore the island. Ideally, I’d have liked to find a house to rent, but every time, I end up with places far from the beach, whereas we’d really like to be able to walk to the beach for strolls. By the way, are there a lot of shells? Can we collect them? It seems that in August, swimming can sometimes be tricky due to tides—is that true? Thanks to all the contributors! 😊

Bonjour, nous arrivons à Koh Samui le 15 mars . Nous ne connaissons pas cette partie de la Thaïlande. A la base, il était prévu 4 jours sur Samui et une semaine sur Koh Tao. Réflexion faite, autant également visiter Koh Phangan. Ce qui est sûr c’est que nous arrivons à Koh Samui et que nous y resterons qq jours. Après, faut il commencer par Koh Phangan et finir par Koh Tao, ou le contraire, et comment répartir les 11 jours dont nous disposons, ou faire l’impasse sur une île ou n’y consacrer qu’uNe excursion ? Je précise que je n’ Ai pas envie ni le temps de visiter chaque île de fond en comble. Ces qq jours nous permettent d’avoir une approche globale. Nous aimons prendre notre temps en vacances. Le ministère du tourisme étudie une ouverture aux touristes étrangers à partir d’août donc plus tôt que prévue, septembre/octobre initialement. Ça concernerait 5 îles seulement pour commencer et avec un nombre limité de touristes. Phuket, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan et Koh Tao.

Pour ceux qui transiteraient à Bangkok, interdiction de sortir de l'aéroport et correspondance dans la foulée.

Bonjour à tous, Je pars en solo dans 15 jours pour 3 semaines en Thaïlande. Ça fait de nombreux mois que je me renseigne à l'aide de blogs et des forums sur les villes/îles/régions à voir mais je me perds et j'ai beaucoup de mal à sélectionner des lieux, et à 15 jours du départ je ne suis toujours pas fixée sur mon itinéraire. Je souhaite faire le nord et le sud. En ce qui concerne le sud, je suis plutôt au clair. Je pense y consacrer une semaine entre Khao Sok, Koh Tao et Koh Phangan. C'est pour le nord que je n'arrive pas tout à fait à me décider. Il reste donc 10-11 jours si on enlève 2 jours à Bangkok. Je précise que je me déplacerai en transports en commun et que je n'ai jamais conduit de scooter donc je ne pense pas en louer. Ce que je sais, c'est que je veux aller à Sukhotai et à Chiang Mai mais j'aimerais aussi voir d'autres endroits. Je précise que je ne veux pas faire que des temples car dans tous les cas j'en verrai un certain nombre dans les villes. Je suis à la recherche de nature, de beaux paysages, de petits villages authentiques. Je pense faire également un treck. Les autres endroits auxquels j'ai pensé sont bien sûr Chiang Rai, mais aussi Thathon, Mae Salong, le Doi Inthanon, Lampang, Patong, Phayao, Pai, Nan, Phrae, Khao Yai... Mais ce qui est certain, c'est que je ne pourrai pas aller partout, loin de là! Donc pour ceux qui connaissent le bord de la Thailande, pouvez vous m'aider à choisir, bien que nos goûts peuvent être différents ? Et comment répartir ce temps consacré au Nord? Je suis désolée pour cette question probablement compliquée, mais il est temps que je me decide et je bloque complètement ! Merci infiniment à ceux qui voudront bien m'aider 🙂

During this trip, we want to discover a new culture, beautiful landscapes, eat well, do some beach time (with snorkeling), all while trying to keep it authentic and close to nature.

After some research, I’ve come up with this itinerary—what do you think?

Arrival in Bangkok on Tuesday, July 7 in the morning = 2 days Ayutthaya = 1 day Travel to Chiang Mai = 1 day (flight) Chiang Mai = 2 days Trek = 2 days Travel to Khao Sok = 1 day (flight to Surat Thani + bus) Khao Sok = 3 days (4 nights total) = For this part of the trip, would you recommend staying in Khao Sok village and doing day trips, or planning an overnight stay on the lake? Travel to Koh Phangan = 1 day (bus + ferry) Koh Phangan = 4 days (we’re thinking of staying in the northeast part of the island) Koh Tao = 2 days Return to Bangkok = 1 day (taking a ferry to Chumphon then a flight) Bangkok = 1 day

On the southeast coast, we're torn between Ko Chang and Ko Kood—we're looking for tranquility and the chance to do some snorkeling along the coast. Est il possible de faire la visite d'ayutthaya et le temple wat tha sung dans la meme journée? sachant que le temple ferme à 16h.

Nous souhaiterions louer une voiture de Hua Hin à Chumphon... Après plusieurs heures de recherches, alors qu'il semble impossible de trouver un loueur de voiture international à Chumphon, j'ai trouvé (quelque part sur un ancien post de ce forum) un lien pour ce site de fastcarhire. https://www.fastcarhire.co.uk/thailand_car_hire.asp qui semble proposer une prise en charge à Hua Hin avec un retour possible à Chumphon bien qu'écrit Chumporn Airport (je n'ai pas trouvé de Chumporn Airport sur Google map !). A priori, ce loueur propose de louer via Budget (donc un peu le même fonctionnement qu'autoescape ou rentalcar ??) J'ai pourtant regardé sur le site de Budget qui ne propose pas la ville de Chumphon, donc je ne comprends plus rien

Connaissez-vous ce loueur ?

On préfererait rendre la voiture à Chumphon depuis Hua Hin pour prendre le ferry pour Koh Phangan tout simplement car c'est notre premier voyage en Asie, donc en Thailande et après avoir hésité longtemps si nous pouvons louer une voiture ou non, on se dit que oui mais seulement sur des petites portions .. Et il nous semble que la portion Hua Hin Chumphon serait mieux en voiture pour avoir plus de liberté pour ces 4/5 jours dont nous disposons dans le secteur. Nous prévoyons une nuit à Sam Roi Yot Beach, 2 à Prachuap KK ou Ban Krut Beach et 1à Chumphon. Merci de votre aide....

Bonjour les voyageurs En pleine organisation et réflexion pour relier Yangoon à Koh Samui: Il y a l'avion bien sur via Bangkok, facile mais couteux. MAIS une autre option est possible: rejoindre Kawthaung en avion (départ Yangoon via Myanmar Airways) traverser la frontière en bateau pour ranong puis rejoindre Koh Samui via le bus (le train? le taxi?) et le ferry. L'un d'entre vous l'a t-il déja pratiqué? Est-il facile de sortir de Birmanie dans cette zone? Des choses à faire à Ranong? Par avance merci pour ce que vous pourrez partager :))

Bonjour à tous! Bonne année! 2 ème fois pour nous cette année sur la Thailande, l'année derniere nous avons été du côté de la mer Andaman, nous avions visité Phuket, Koh Phi Phi et Krabi! Nous avions trouvé une belle villa avec vue sur mer et nouss avions fait des excursions à la journée autour de Phuket! Nous avions eu la chance d'être tombé sur une agence francaise donc le guide pouvait nous expliquer en Français!

Cette année nous partons en février du coté de Koh Samui et son archipel ! j'ai entendu de tout Nous voulons louer une villa, connaissez vous des adresses? Quel quartier nous recommandez vous?

Nous cherchons aussi à faire des excursions sur Koh Samui et les îles aux alentours, nous cherchons une agence de préférence francaise car nous parlons très mal anglais, des excursions avec pas trop de monde, je ne veux pas être entourer de chinois comme a Koh Phi Phi!

Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news. I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us? • Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia? • Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?
