J'aimerais me rendre au Panama, à partir du Québec, en motorisé et en famille (3 jeunes enfants). Nous comptons demeurer un certain temps au Costa Rica et au Panama, puis revenir.

Le voyage suppose de traverser, par la route, le Mexique, le Guatemala, l'Honduras et le Nicaragua.

Pouvez-vous me renseigner au niveau des risques d'un tel voyage. Comment sont les routes dans ces pays ? Est-ce sécuritaire ? Y'a-t-il des endroits à éviter, surtout avec un motorisé et des enfants ? Le passage douanier est-il facile ? Est-ce facile de trouver un endroit pour passer la nuit (camping ou autre), etc..

😉 nous voulons partir en amerique centrale pour un mois, d'ici une semaine a deux, avec un budget de 15 a 20 euros par personne et par jour.on a envie de plages, de nature, ballades, ...on cherche sur internet et nous sommes perdus .

guatemala n'a pas l'air sur;costa rica on se demande par rapport au budget et si c'est pas trop touristique, americanise.et panama on sait pas trop, c'est sympa???

je planifie un voyage debut janvier en Amerique centrale et j' aimerais savoir si je peus voyager par voie de terre(Bus)du Costa Rica au Guatemala. Combien de jour ais-je besoin? est-ce que la securité est difficile? Si le voyage par voie de terre n' est pas possible, est-ce que les vols sont chèrs du Costa Rica au Guatemala? actuellement au mexique depuis 6 mois le depart se dessine a l horizon du 13 novembre, a la recherche d infos sur belize city point de chute hotel et punta gorda, pour seulement un passage de 3 jours pour quelques achats, par la suite envie de connaitre le lac tical guatemala mais actuellement il y a les elections presidentielle je ne le sens pas trop, apres en direction des iles du honduras et du nicaragua je suis un peu fana de plongee et de plage paradisiaque tout ca, pour petit budget...

J'ai lu qqpart un classement des 10 pays les plus violents au monde...Mais JEN, ARRIVE PLUS A ME SOUVENIR SUR QUEL SITE j, ai lu cela....Je me rappelle que la palme de la violence revient a la Colombie....que les USA ne sont pas loin dans le classement et que le Guatémala (ouffff) ne figurait pas dans les 10 premiers....

Qqun aurait-il vu cet article et s, en souviendrait-il mieux que moi...????

Preamble

I could have titled my travel journal like Carmen: "Some trips are born twice." Indeed, we had considered this destination back in February 2020. However, an honest tour operator advised us against traveling at that time due to the climate. So, we gave up and opted for Guatemala instead (see "On the Mayan Lands" on this site).

So, why this title? When I was in primary school, over 65 years ago, the illustrations in my history books (Machu Picchu) and geography books (Lake Titicaca) made me dream, and those images stayed in my mind. It took until 2026 to finally make this dream come true!

We prepared our trip with Tout Pérou, a French-speaking "agency." Everything was handled via email and WhatsApp exchanges with our contact: Laurent, who was both competent, friendly, and full of good advice. For 200 €, Tout Pérou provided us with drivers and guides whenever we wanted, helped us buy our domestic flights (cheaper when purchased in Peru), booked shuttles between airports and hotels, and got us a discount on the train ride to Aguas Calientes, as well as on the buses between Chivay and Puno and between Puno and Cusco. In short, Laurent took care of all the logistics and the Machu Picchu tickets. It was up to us to book our hotels. Tout Pérou provided a list, but we weren’t obliged to follow it. Another advantage of the package: we didn’t have to pay in advance; we paid the service providers directly day by day.

We didn’t meet Laurent in person because he was on vacation in Europe. Before his departure, he gave us a briefing, provided a summary table with the entire program, the service providers, their phone numbers, their fees, the schedules, and gave us plenty of advice (money, exchange, safety, etc.). After returning at the end of our stay, he kept checking in on us.

Lastly, we had also gathered information from Arnaud Lagadec, who runs a hotel in Cusco and offers tours of the region. He gave us a lot of useful information. Another contact: Thomas Montaigne, very friendly, who runs an agency in Arequipa (Agence Pérou Exclusif).

Day 1 – Paris to Lima

Foreword I’ll share our trip without any pretension—I don’t have the talent of some contributors on this forum—and I’ll illustrate it with a few photos (taken with an ordinary smartphone). My comments are personal and only reflect my own views. So, please be kind! Feel free to comment on my story as you like, but let’s avoid pointless debates.

Even though we live in the south of the Paris region, true to our habits when the flight is in the morning, we chose to spend the night before our departure in a hotel near CDG and parked our car in a parking lot in Garches. This way, we avoid the stress that often comes with traveling around Paris (accidents, roadworks, traffic jams, etc.).

Check-in and border control went smoothly on that Sunday morning. Our Air France flight was uneventful. In Lima, border control took a particularly long time, and for the first time, we didn’t get an entry visa stamped in our passports.

As planned, a driver took us to the Miraflores district, where our hotel was located. We were surprised by the numerous signs about possible tsunamis, having forgotten that Peru is prone to such events and regularly experiences earthquakes. We’d see the consequences of these during our journey.

Exhausted from the early wake-up, the 13-hour flight, and the 7-hour time difference, we had dinner at the hotel before a restful night.

Note that this day was Peru’s presidential election day. As a result, we weren’t served beer—the sale of alcohol was banned that Sunday.

Introduction: For years, I’ve heard about Costa Rica, which seems like a country "made for me"—nature, not cities. I almost went in 2019, but a family issue made me cancel. Initially, I wanted to spend at least three weeks there, planning to go in our summer despite it being the rainy season. Then I realized what I wanted to do could fit into two weeks, so I ended up going in February. Plus, January’s weather was so awful that some sunshine should do me good. I found a flight at a decent price, but with two downsides. The first is that it leaves from Paris CDG, and the second is that it’s with Air France—a airline I’d sworn off after my misadventures with them back in 2008. We’ll see how it goes!

Hello, We're heading to Peru at the end of July 2026 for 18 days. We're a couple with two teenagers aged 14 and 16. I'm considering booking our Paris - Lima - Paris flight with AVIANCA because the fare is very competitive compared to other airlines. The return trip would include a 15h30 stopover in Bogota, with the idea of spending the night in a hotel near the airport to catch the 1:30 PM flight the next day. The arrival and departure times in Bogota work well. Have any of you already flown with AVIANCA on a Paris - Lima route? What was your experience with this airline? Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts. I'm hesitant to book with them, but the price difference with the cheapest alternative (Air France) is 1500 €, which is significant... thanks for your help! !

Hi there, after my trip to Nicaragua in January, I’m planning to visit Honduras and El Salvador during the same journey. Can anyone tell me where to cross the border from Nicaragua to Honduras by bus? Is it doable? Safe? And most importantly, what’s a good route to take and what’s worth seeing in Honduras in a safe way?

Is it better to travel with a group (through an agency) or is solo travel no problem?

P.S.: And for El Salvador, same question—what’s a good route and what’s generally worth seeing? Is it better to start in the south (El Salvador) and then head north to Honduras before continuing to Guatemala, or...?

Hi everyone! I’m looking for a travel companion for next year, specifically for May 2026, to explore Latin America and the Caribbean. Ideally, I’d prefer a woman aged 25 to 35—I’m 34—but I’m also open to a friendly guy in the same age range.

I’d love to visit all of South America except French Guiana, and Central America except Mexico and Guatemala (since I’ve already been there). I’d also like to explore some Caribbean countries. I’m based in the Lyon area and open to connecting with people in the Rhône-Alpes region to get to know each other and discuss the trip.

The journey would last between 9 to 11 months max, but you don’t have to commit to the whole trip—just part of it if you’re interested. I plan to start in Colombia in May. I’d love to meet people who are passionate about travel and around my age.

quel est l'endroit, mer et plages ou il peut aller se poser 3 mois, ou il peut aller dans une guest house, et normalement..pas bouger pendant ces 3 mois...cette année il est allé a madagascar mais ce n'est pas la bonne période et il a eu pas mal de pluie.

en revanche, il l'avait choisi car cil ne parle pas anglais, mais je pense qu'il peut s'organiser avec les quelques mots dont il aura besoin... un grand merci si vous pouvez m'aider a lui faire quelques propositions, jeanne
