I’m looking for that hidden gem in the Philippines for a month-long trip as a couple with our 4½-year-old in January 2026. We’ll be flying into Manila from Bangkok after spending a month traveling around northern Thailand.

Our criteria: - Good weather, obviously. From what I’ve gathered, it can still be pretty variable depending on the area at that time of year. - Not too far from Manila (max 4–5 days of travel, since we won’t be taking any internal flights). - Not too crowded, authentic vibes, beautiful beaches, and great snorkeling/diving spots.

I get the feeling we might find it quieter in terms of crowds than in Thailand—am I wrong?

How do we go about this? What documents do the French and Philippine authorities require? Do we need to be married first?

Hi there, I’ll be on Palawan Island during the last week of January and early February 2025—any other solo travelers (or accompanied ones) around at the same time? I’ve browsed the forum a bit, and there seem to be fewer activities than before, but we’ll see. Just FYI, Air France launched a direct route from CDG to Manila on December 7, 2024.

We’re planning a month there, and there are definitely some beautiful—*very* beautiful—islands, but which ones to choose? Can you point me to the must-sees, the ones that are easiest to reach by boat, bus, or flight if it saves a ton of time and isn’t too expensive? Also, which island should we start our loop on, given we’re coming from Vietnam and our return flight to Paris is already booked out of Manila? Thanks in advance for all your tips. Philippe

Hi there! Looking to head off by the end of this year, no later than between December 10th and 15th, for the Philippines. Any recommendations for regions like the Batanes Islands and Mindanao, away from mass tourism and off the beaten path?

Plan: Beaches, snorkeling, diving, hiking, and visiting the most interesting sites depending on each person’s preferences (I’m not really into old stones but more about nature, jungle, flora, and fauna).

When? Between December 10th and 15th, but no later than December 15th–17th.

Where? Northern Philippines, starting with a few days of beach and relaxation to recharge after the bad weather and winter in France. Then, off to trek in northern Luzon with its stunning rice terraces, followed by the Batanes Islands, which are the epitome of off-the-beaten-path destinations. After that, we’d head down to the Balicas Islands, where you can swim with turtles and where tourism is minimal due to very limited hotel infrastructure (accommodation is in tents by the sea). Next up: the island of Mindanao.

Depending on time and everyone’s interests, we could continue to Sumatra and then the Moluccas Islands, which, unlike the rest of Indonesia, are much less affected by the monsoon.

With whom?

Someone who’s already traveled and hiked beyond just their imagination and dreams . Independent and resourceful (I’m looking for a travel partner, not a tourist to guide). Good-humored and adaptable. Loving adventure and eager to explore off the beaten path.

I’ve traveled a lot and I’m a fan of the unexpected (go where the wind takes you).

If you see yourself in these few lines, it would be a great pleasure to share this new adventure with you for a few days or weeks.... This is just a rough plan I’m proposing, and it can be adjusted based on everyone’s preferences.

Hi everyone! We’re spending a month in the Philippines from mid-December to mid-January. We’ll be taking a flight from Cebu to Boracay for some kitesurfing. After that, we were thinking of heading back to Cebu Island via public transport or taxi, crossing Panay and Negros, and then going to Moalboal, Bantayan, and Malapascua. Do you think it’s worth crossing Panay and Negros? We’ve heard there were floods on Negros, and Google Maps shows that the volcano on Negros is erupting, so I don’t think hiking it is an option. We’re flying into Caticlan Airport on March 22, 2025, at 5:30 PM. Is that too tight to hope to catch the boat to Boracay the same evening? I’ve read that the regular ferries only run until 7 PM. Also, we want to book a round-trip airport transfer package from Caticlan Airport to the boat for Boracay and drop-off at our hotel with Klook. Has anyone tried this before? What’s the difference between all their different options on their site? Thanks so much! Celine

Hi there, I’ve booked my one-way ticket from Paris to Manila on December 6th, flight at 4 PM. I’ve already visited 6 out of 7,000 islands 😅 traveling on a small budget but not roughing it 😄 I’ll be traveling for 3 months, and nothing’s set in stone, so if anyone wants to join for part of the trip or suggest their itinerary, I’d love that. Could also be India or somewhere else. I’m an early riser, energetic, and resourceful. I’ve traveled quite a bit—Colombia, Mexico, Malaysia, India, etc.—mostly on budget flights. I love visiting iconic sites, nature, diving in warm, vibrant seas, and so on… over to you! I’m definitely not looking for hardship, just a travel buddy 😊

- Le tourisme représente quel pourcentage du PIB des Philippines ?

- Est-ce que vous savez combien de personnes travaillent dans la branche touristique aux Philippines ?

- Je lis, un peu partout, qu'il arrive assez souvent que les transports en commun aient un peu, voir beaucoup de retard. Si vous deviez vous déplacer d'un point A à un point B et que ce trajet requière plusieurs transports publics. Est-ce que vous prenez vos billets, un à la fois, par étape ? Ou est-ce que vous prenez tout vos billets en même temps ? Exemple aller de Cebu à Pandan, il y a des bus et des ferrys.

- Je regarde des vlogs sur Youtube. Je vois que dans les principaux endroits, comme Manille, Cebu, la plupart des gens portent un masque. Par contre, j'ai l'impression qu'ailleurs, c'est nettement moins populaire. Est-ce que je me trompe ? (j'ai regardé la courbes des nouveaux cas journaliers concernant la Covid-19, c'est pas joie en ce moment aux Philippines).
