Hi everyone, as a regular in the "bike travel" section, I’m reaching out for some info since I’m planning to come to Montreal at the end of September 2026 for the Road Cycling World Championships. If I get the time off and manage to gather the details, I’ll arrive on Wednesday the 23rd and leave on Tuesday the 29th. Traveling solo with just my backpack, I need answers to: 1°) Do you know of any youth hostels (or similar) within walking distance (less than 3 km) of the finish circuit on Mount Royal? 2°) What’s the best way to get to this accommodation from the airport—metro, bus, etc.?

I’m just starting my research and counting on you all for any tips. My goal is to watch the road races and explore Montreal afterward—restaurants, bars, and more.

I’m planning a 3-week trip in November after having visited Morocco extensively 30 years ago. I’m thinking of taking the bus to Ouarzazate, then heading to Boulmane and Tinghir, and returning. Is this doable by public transport? Next, from Ouarzazate, I’d like to go to Tagounit or M’hamid. Same question—is public transport feasible? If I rent a car, which agency is reliable in Ouarzazate, considering I only have a debit card? Are there any deposits required? I’d also love recommendations for simple homestays. Thanks a lot!

I'm urgently planning a trip to Tunisia in November, backpacker-style (no agency, no guide or taxi, public transport, youth hostels or small hotels, local restaurants). I'm not interested in the beach, and I like to take my time at archaeological sites and museums (twice as long as the average visitor). I'm aiming for about two weeks, give or take.

First, I'm trying to roughly outline a route/schedule so I can book my flight as soon as possible (no desert in the south this time—I went there years ago and want to stay independent). I’ve sketched out the following itinerary, knowing that apparently, there are quite a few towns without budget-friendly hotels (even on Airbnb), which means I’ll be staying longer where they’re available. Three questions: 1. Does this seem reasonable overall (time spent in each city)? 2. Should I add other cities, maybe in the northwest? 3. For hotels, in November, is it better to scout options on booking sites first, then book on the spot for cheaper rates (no site commission + possible negotiation)? Also, are hotels not listed online and found randomly on-site much cheaper?

Worth it? + option: 1 day A-R Mahdia (or 2 days sleeping there)?

OPTIONS -> Gabes to mix things up? But is it easy to find cheap lodging and get around/visit alone? -> Other sights or stops to sleep: Sfax, El Kef, others? -> Kerkenna Islands (easy accommodation?)

We have the opportunity to get away for a little two-week trip at the very beginning of January, just the two of us, without our kids. Because of the kids, we haven’t traveled much in Asia, so we’d love to take advantage of their absence to explore Thailand. Even though I’m used to planning our trips, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed this time.

We’d like to visit Bangkok and head south by renting a car (we have an international driver’s license, and my husband has driven on the left before). I’ve managed to sketch out a rough itinerary that might work for us, and I’d love to hear your thoughts.

To set the scene: we haven’t booked anything yet, we don’t like spending hours on the beach (though a little time at the end of the day is fine), we love walking and sightseeing, and what we enjoy most is being independent (so if we can avoid group tours, that’s ideal).

A few questions and doubts: - I’d considered Cheow Lan Lake but read some not-so-great reviews (crowds, just 3 viewpoints, and the rest was meh). What do you think? - Can we start from Ao Thalane Pier for trips to Ko Hong and Ko Tapu? - I’m not thrilled about driving through Bangkok, but I’m not sure where to rent a car west of the city (since we won’t return it to the same place, I assume it’s best to target rental companies at airports).

I’ve got 3 nights for this part of our trip. But I’m wondering if it’s actually a good idea to hike in the Drakensberg in August, since it’s the Southern Hemisphere winter (I’m from Réunion and we hike year-round there, but I don’t know what the climate’s like in South Africa, especially the Drakensberg). Hi there, Our son is in Canada for a year on a Working Holiday Visa, and we’re planning to join him around September 20th for a 15-day campervan road trip in Nova Scotia. I was thinking of going with Canadream, but if you have other rental companies to recommend, don’t hesitate! Here’s the itinerary I’ve been considering—I tried not to cram in too many stops so we’re not just driving the whole time.

Day 1: Pick up campervan in Halifax at 3 PM. Stop at Peggy’s Cove, then drive to Lunenburg and Blue Rocks (151 km) Day 2: Explore Lunenburg, then head to Kejimkujik National Park for hikes or other activities. Maybe there are places to listen to folk music? - If you have any campgrounds or wild camping spots to recommend, I’d love to hear about them. - Do we need to book the ferry this time of year?

Since the forum came back, it's been a bit quiet—no one's sharing their adventures yet. I know it's the start of the season, so let's hope it picks up!

Last Saturday, my buddy Jean Paul (who’ll be 84 next month) and I rode through the cedar forest between Cavaillon and Bonnieux—I highly recommend it! I already knew the area. We started from Pont Royal: me on my latest women’s FUN RIDE SOLO mountain bike (kept it as simple as possible), and him on a road bike with gravel tires. The road starting near Cheval Blanc, called the Vidauque route, is paved but completely wrecked—full of potholes, abandoned for ages, and technically off-limits to cars (though 4x4s still use it). The views over the Cavaillon plain are stunning, but we had to push our bikes a few times. After that, we did 10 km through the gorgeous cedar forest, followed by all downhill and flat terrain through the Lourmarin valley, then Cadenet, before heading toward La Roque-d'Anthéron. From there, we tackled the dirt paths of Provence by bike—beautiful trails—and made our way back to Mallemort and Pont Royal. A great loop: 81.51 km with 908 m of elevation gain. And Jean Paul? Fresh as a daisy at the finish—what an impressive guy!

Now, the real reason for this post: At the start, we followed the Carpentras Canal, which runs from Mallemort to Travaillan (69 km total). I’ve seen some photos on Komoot, and it looks amazing—apparently, there’s always a towpath.

I booked a round-trip to NYC (Newark) from 10/17 to 11/01, 2025 at a good price. Now I need to figure out what to do 😎

The initial idea was to go to Nashville. Why? I don’t really know. For info, we’ve already been to NYC and Washington D.C.

That said, I opened an Excel sheet and put this together:

D1: Arrival at Newark around 9 PM. Pick up car and overnight near the airport D2/3: Philadelphia D4: Lancaster (Amish Village) then drive to Shenandoah NP. Overnight in the northern part of the park (Front Royal?) D5: Scenic road - Overnight in Charlottesville D6: Blue Ridge Parkway - Overnight in Troutville D7: Blue Ridge Parkway - Overnight in Boone D8: Blue Ridge Parkway - Overnight in Asheville D9: Blue Ridge Parkway - Overnight in Gatlinburg D10: Smoky Mountains - Overnight in Gatlinburg

That’s where things get tricky.

If I add 2 nights in Nashville, it really tightens up the end of the trip in terms of mileage.

I thought about doing:

D11/12: Nashville D13: Mammoth Cave > Lexington D14: Fayetteville D15: X D16: Drive back to Newark.

But honestly, I’m not happy with the end.

So I thought about adding Gettysburg by adjusting things and shortening D4, which I felt was too packed: D1: Arrival at Newark around 9 PM. Pick up car and overnight near the airport D2/3: Philadelphia D4: Lancaster (Amish Village) - Overnight in York D5: Gettysburg - Overnight in Front Royal D6: Shenandoah NP Scenic Road - Overnight in Charlottesville D7: Blue Ridge Parkway - Overnight in Troutville D8: Blue Ridge Parkway - Overnight in Boone D9: Blue Ridge Parkway - Overnight in Asheville D10: Blue Ridge Parkway - Overnight in Gatlinburg D11: Smoky Mountains - Overnight in Gatlinburg

This leaves me with 5 days to get back to NYC. Maybe via the coast?

Je me tourne vers vous en quête de renseignements ! Avant tout, n'hésitez pas à consulter mon profil et mes destinations qui pourraient soulever certaines questions pour vos prochains voyages, je répondrait avec plaisir !

Voici donc mon projet, pour janvier 2021, un road-trip à moto en Inde et au Népal. Le but serait d'arriver en Inde du sud ( Madurai / Chenai ou autre, peu importe pour le moment) et d'acheter une moto pour rejoindre le Népal.

-1ère question : Combien peut coûter une moto de type royal enfield, après de nombreuses recherches sur internet, le prix semble varier entre 300$ et 1300$, avez vous plus de précision ? Bien entendu je ne cherche pas une moto neuve, une occas' dans un garage ou a un voyageur fera très bien l'affaire.

Je compte longer la côte pour rejoindre Bombay, avec quelques escapades dans les terres sur les lieux à voir (Mysore, Hassan, Badami...). Une fois à Bombay, je partirait directement sur Indore, puis Kanpur pour rejoindre la frontière Népalaise la plus proche.

2ème question : Est-ce pour vous envisageable de faire ce trajet en 3 mois (durée du visa) en prenant son temps dans les endroits "coup de cœur" ? J'ai entendu parler du désastres des route indiennes et de la vitesse de conduite qui ne survole pas les 40km/h. MAIS Après avoir fait une bonne partie d'Asie du Sud Est (vietnam cambodge etc) à moto, je me rend compte que les avis ne reflètent pas vraiment la réalité...Tout est toujours très...dramatisé. Je m'attendais au pire, mais il n'y as finalement pas de quoi s'alarmer... Certaines personnes sont logiquement moins débrouillardes que d'autres, et je ne juge pas, mais merci de prendre en compte que j'ai un bon niveau en moto, et en road-trip 😉

L'étape suivante est donc de visiter le Népal, puis de rejoindre l'Inde du Nord (Jammu-et-cachemire), faire une boucle dans le Rajasthan jusqu'à la frontière Pakistanaise pour revenir sur New-Delhi et bye bye la Moto, retour en France, normalement 😉

Bonjour à tous, j'aimerai faire un trek au Népal entre tumingtar et lukla en passant par le sherpani pass, et le mera la puis lukla en autonomie avec un ami. Pour les 3,4 jours d'autonomie en repas que nécessite ce trek, j'ai besoin de savoir quel carburant je prends, soit un réchaud essence ou un rechaud en gaz. J'aimerai donc savoir si il est possible de trouver de petites recharges de gaz à tumlingtar étant donné que normalement on ne peut transporter ce genre de bouteilles en avion. Je vais faire l'ascension du Mafadi, le plus haut sommet d'Afrique du Sud dans le Drakensberg, départ le 25 avril 2020. C'est une expédition de 4 jours - 3 nuits, avec guide. Je recherche des compagnons de voyage. Si vous êtes intéressé(e)s, merci de me le faire savoir.

Pour info, je serai dans le Drakensberg du 16 au 28 avril. Quelques jours dans le Royal Natal National Park, basée au Thendele campsite, ensuite, quelques jours dans le parc de Monts Cowl. Je compte faire Sterkhorn. Enfin, je me rendrai à Injisuthi pour faire le Mafadi.

Je voyage seule, donc si vous êtes dans le coin ou planifiez de faire le meme genre de hikes, faites moi signe!

Bonjour, nous revenons d'un voyage de deux mois en moto. Nous avons commencé par un mois au Srilanka suivi d'un mois en Inde au Kérala. le SL, je connaissais pour l'avoir déjà fait 4 ans avant en moto (3000 kms)....Trés beau pays, magnifique, la gentillesse et le sourire de ses habitants. Nous avons parcouru 2000 kms merveilleux, à part 3 controles de flics (motards) sur les routes....Mais tout c'est bien fini ! J'avais loué une Kawasaki 250 cc Estrella, trés bonne moto de route... L'Inde, du moins, le Kérala, c'est une autre paire de manche....Une circulation de dingue, sans lois apparentes, c'est rock'n roll ! nous sommes partis de Fort Kochi pour Kovalam, dont 2 allers-retours sûr Allepey...Au total, un peu plus de 1000 kms avec une Royal Enfield 350 Classic. Si vous avez des questions sur, contact locations motos, prix, papiers ou autres, n'hésitez pas...

Je suis arrivée il y a maintenant une semaine à Paris. Je voulais depuis longtemps connaître la capitale de France : j'avais déjà voyagé en Europe mais je n'avais pas encore eu l'occasion de faire cette expérience, Je suis à Paris pour poursuivre mes études à l'université de la Sorbonne.

En formant une spirale en allant du centre, les 20 arrondissements de Paris forme un escargot qui ne laisse pas ses visiteurs indifférents ! Dès mon arrivée et avec beaucoup d'enthousiasme, je me suis servie du plan de la ville de Paris pour découvrir les quartiers parisiens. J'avais commencé par visiter le quartier du Louvre dans le premier arrondissement qu'on nomme aussi le palais royal. J'avais un peu peur à plus de 300 mètres en montant la Tour Eiffel, mais je me suis ensuite habituée à l'idée. Quelques jours après mon arrivée, j'ai découvert les quartiers parisiens les plus connus, j'ai particulièrement aimé le quartier de la Bastille où la beauté de la Colonne de Juillet et la sérénité de la Seine s'ajoute à une nature resplendissante.

Au bout de quelques jours dans la ville des amoureux, on découvre des monuments époustouflants ! Au fur et à mesure que je me promène dans Paris, cette ville me plaît de plus en plus. Demain, je visiterai d'autres quartiers parisiens... j'ai hâte d'y être 🙂

Le but voir des jardins, châteaux et petits randonnée dans le nature sauvage d'Ecosse. On est membre de National Trust Scotland pour cette année. D'abord 1 semaine en France en montant vers Pays Bas. (Notre Pays d'origine) Le 28/04 on prend le ferry de Calais vers Dover. Camping à côté de Dover. Le 29/04 direction camping Northwich. 30/04 camping à Dalbeattie en Ecosse. 2 jours pour Threave Garden, Castle Douglas et un randonnée au Clatteringshaws Loch. Le 03/05 direction camping à Gartmore. 1 jours pour Geilstone Garden à Dumbarton et 2 jours randonnée dans Trossachs National Park. Le 07/05 direction camping à Oban. 1 jours pour Arduain Garden et 2 jours pour des monuments néolithique à Kilmartin et Dunnadd Fort. 11/05 direction camping Portree sur Sky. 2 jours pour Dunvegan Castle/jardin, Old Storr, Kiltrock, Duntulm Castle ou randonnée. 14/05 direction camping Kinlochewe. 2 jours pour Inverewe Gardens, Falls of Measach, Corrieshalloch Gorge. 17/05 direction camping Inverness. 2 jours pour Urquehart Castle Loch Ness, Clava Cairns, Cawdor Castle/jardin. 20/05 direction camping Kintore. 2 jours pour Drum Castle/jardin, Crather Castle/jardin et Dunottar Castle/jardin. 23/05 direction camping Pitlochry. 3 jours pour Crannog Centre Aberfeldy, Killycrankie et Blair Castle. 27/05 direction camping Crieff. 4 jours pour Branklyn Garden Perth, Royal Burgh of Culross, Drummond Castle/gardens et Campbell Castle/Gardens Dollar. 02/06 direction camping Wombleton. 2 jours pour Helmsley Walk to Rievaulx Abbey et North York Moors National Park. 05/06 direction camping Petersborough. 06/06 direction camping Maldon Essex. 5 jours chez ma fille à Witham. 11/06 ferry Dover/Calais et 4 jours pour descendre dans l'Ariège. Bonjour Je voudrais faire un raid moto en Éthiopie pendant un mois ou plus avec mon fils. Apparamment il n'est pas possible de louer sur place, j'envisage donc un achat et revente.
