Pourquoi voyager vous?

La réponse est facile me direz-vous: pour DECOUVRIR.

Mais ma question va plus loin que ca, qu'est ce qui vous pousse a repartir encore et encore, pourquoi toujours partir plus loin, plus souvent, plus longtemps?

Pourquoi ce couper de ses etres qui nous aiment et nous chérissent pour aller se perdre au fin fond de la jungle et manger des trucs a l'odeur, couleur et gout bizarre? en revenir le coeur a l'envers, la tete ailleur avec l'impression que personne nous comprend et repartir pour trouver des gens qui nous comprennent?

Est ce que vous voyagez pour fuir quelque chose? Pour trouver quelque chose? Pour oublier?

Le 27/11 nous partons pour la 1è fois durant 17 jours à Bangkok, mais mis à part l’avion, nous n’avons toujours rien réservé comme logement, et je dois avouer que ça me stresse un peu 😠… Est-il vraiment nécessaire de faire ça à l’avance ou est-ce qu’on pourra trouver quelque chose sur place sans trop de problèmes ? Il ne nous faut pas spécialement un cinq étoiles, tant que c’est propre, et bien situé, on est content…

On ne sait pas non plus exactement combien de jours consacrer à Bangkok, ni ce qu’il faut visiter en priorité aux alentours. Ce qui est clair, c'est qu'on voudrait voir un maximum de choses sans pour autant faire des distances énormes, la visite du Nord du pays sera pour un autre séjour…

Par contre on voudrait aussi se reposer quelques jours sur une île, notamment pour suivre des cours de plongées, nous avons repéré Kho Tao dans un guide qui nous semble être spécialisé dans la matière. Première question : point de vue logement, faut-il réserver à l’avance ? On parle de bungalow à louer, ça peut être sympa, mais est-ce facile à trouver, et pas trop cher ? Et deuxième question : comment peut-on se rendre le plus facilement de Bangkok vers cette île (ou vers une autre île si vous avez mieux à proposer) ?

Je m'explique :

Cela fait maintenant 1 ou 2 mois que je suis menbre de ce forum et je suis devenu complètement accro : je reste des heures devant mon poste (d'ailleurs je pense que ça ne plairait pas trop à mon patron !!!) en train de lire les discussions sur n'importe quel thème, regarder les profils de chaque membre, ... et tout me fait rêver, chaque destination me donne envie d'y aller ...

Mais je me pose quand même une petite question ... 😕 COMMENT FAITES VOUS ?????? Bon, c'est vrai je n'ai que 23 ans, mais en regardant certains profils (agatha), je me rends compte que certaines personnes de mon âge ont déjà fait pas mal de voyages ... Et puis même les personnes plus âgées (30, 40 ou 50 ans), je me demande comment vous faîtes pour pouvoir partir autant. c'ets vrai vous devez avoir un boulot qui ne vous donne pas forcément la possibilité de partir 1 ou 2 mois en voyage. Et puis si vous avez des enfants, comment faîtes vous pour "bourlinguer"avec des gosses. Et au niveau financier ... Là aussi ça me fait peur. Je sais qu'en cherchant bien on peut se débrouiller pour partir pas cher (j'ai fait un week-end à Londres où le vol m'a couté pour 2 personnes 300 F aller -retour), mais si on sort un peu de l'Union Europééne, alors là, il faut aligner la monnaie. Mais bon, je me dis que si on n'a vraiment envie de partir il faut économiser et c'est tout ... En fait, je crois qu'il me faudrait plusieurs vies : - 1 vie pour avoir une super carrière profesionnelle : j'ai envie de faire pleins de choses, traviller dans une agence de voyage, dans la presse, la communication, la déco, ... - 1 vie pour m'occuper de mes futurs enfants : je veux 4 enfants, donc je pense que ça m'occupera pendant au moins toute une vie non ?!? - et bien-sur, 1 vie pour voyager : je voudrais vivre un peu dans chaque pays pour avoir le temps de découvrir chaque culture, chaque coutume, chaque religion, ... 🤪 Vous vous rendez bien compte vous aussi que je ne pourrais pas faire tout ça en 1 seule vie !!! En fait, si j'ai décidé d'écrire ce message, c'est surtout pour vous remercier, vous tous qui me font tant rêver dans ce forum avec vos multiples expériences autour du monde. 🙂 Merci et à très beintôt. En fait, je viens de decider d'aller au maroc en voiture (je passe par le portugal puis espagne) et tant qu'a faire, aller au maroc et pourquoi pas les canaries :)

Je sais, c'est pas bien de faire ça, c'est malsain, parce qu'on a tous suffisamment envie de se barrer, mais c'est plus fort que nous, n'est-ce pas? J'ouvre, avec l'Usage du Monde de Nicolas Bouvier. Entre 1951 et 1953, Nicolas Bouvier est parti avec un ami peintre (Thierry Vernet) en fiat facile à réparer qui tombe tout le temps en panne à travers l'Europe Balkanique, puis la Turquie, le Kurdistan, l'Iran, l'Afganistan. Il raconte ses souvenirs et ses analyses d'une manière simple et très émouvante. Les rencontres et les moments insolites donnent particulièrement envie de vivre des instants similaires, même s'ils ont quand même pas mal galéré. Mais la galère est un véhicule comme un autre... Donc voilà, pour ceux qui n'aiment pas voyager, lisez ce bouquin, les autres, surtout, abstenez vous, sinon, vous serez irrémédiablement perdus, korzéam.

Three years after exploring northern Argentina and Chile, my two travel buddies and I want to discover the southern part of these two countries. We’re traveling on a budget, backpacker-style, favoring public transport and modest accommodations, but we don’t hesitate to splurge a little when it’s worth it. The classic spots that have been fueling our dreams: Bariloche, the lakes, Chiloé, El Chaltén, Torres del Paine, Perito Moreno, El Calafate, Fitz Roy, Ushuaia and Tierra del Fuego, and wrapping up in Valparaíso. We’ll take a round-trip flight to Santiago, then I’m thinking of a one-way flight from Santiago to Punta Arenas. From there, we’ll explore and do several day hikes in the south, including Ushuaia and, if possible, Tierra del Fuego. Then we’ll head back north by bus to Bariloche and the lakes, followed by Chiloé, then a bus to Santiago and Valparaíso. Based on your experience, could you help me figure out the best way to structure this trip and maybe suggest some ideas? Thanks in advance. Didier

I’ve been looking for a destination for a 2-week trip early next spring, and Cape Verde has been growing on me. (The flight isn’t too long, the temperatures are more than pleasant, and it’s an unknown country for me.)

The thing is, Cape Verde is pretty complicated when it comes to inter-island transfers, and I don’t want to spend my time in airports or on ferries—especially since those transfers aren’t exactly known for their reliability...

So, I’d like to limit internal flights to just 2, meaning the island I arrive on plus one other.

I’ve ruled out the all-inclusive islands: Sal and Boa Vista.

I’m torn between combining Santo Antão + São Vicente or Fogo + Santiago.

The goal of the trip is to see beautiful landscapes, go on day hikes (nothing multi-day), swim a little—though I prefer quiet spots—and enjoy 1 or 2 days in a city, but not much more than that!

In your opinion, which option would be the best, and why?

Now I’m at the stage of buying train tickets for the few segments we’ll need to cover: Tokyo - Hakone Hakone - Kyoto Kyoto - Osaka Osaka - Tokyo Here are my questions: a) Is it possible to buy train tickets for these segments from Canada? b) If so, which website should I use to do this? c) And if it is possible, will we be able to print our tickets from Canada? d) If it’s not possible, where in Tokyo should I go to buy these tickets when I arrive?

Hi everyone! I’ve booked flights to Phnom Penh for August 26 (no layover in the Emirates as a precaution...). We arrive on Sunday, August 2 in the morning and leave on August 19 around 9 PM (also from Phnom Penh). We’re a couple traveling with three kids aged 9 to 16. Among the many questions I have about our itinerary, a few are standing out: If we arrive in Phnom Penh exhausted, I imagine we’ll need to stay one night there before heading to Siem Reap... but how much time should we spend there to enjoy Angkor in good conditions? Then, Mondulkiri or Battambang? (Because I don’t want it to be a total rush, changing accommodation every two days and praying that bus transfers or private drivers go as planned...). Where does Tonlé Sap Lake fit into all this? And if we end with a beach stay: is Koh Rong a must, or is there another spot? Also, what about the return logistics: should we spend the night before our flight in Phnom Penh to be safe... or do we do everything on August 19... like taking a boat and then the road from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh, risking missing our flight if anything goes wrong? Hi there, I’m traveling solo to Egypt. Could you give me a rough idea of the budget for: meals hotels taxis including tips visits... Just an estimate, of course. For 15 days, what would the price range be, considering there’s an overnight train and a Nile cruise? I’d like to compare with a travel agency. For once, I'm heading north... I’ve decided to spend a short time in Iceland, alone, during the first week of July. I’ll only have 5 full days there. Sure, it’s not much, so I’ll focus on what attracts me the most: the Highlands. Obviously, renting a 4x4—or even a regular car—on my own isn’t an option. That’s why I’m breaking my (probably unfounded) principles and have contacted local agencies for "day tours" in small-group format. Well, small-group up to 15 people, anyway... Oh well, I’m going for it! I’m really hesitant about visiting the Golden Circle on the last day, since I’ve read it’s become super crowded. I’d love your thoughts on this. Plus, if I visit that area, I’d want to include Bruarfoss, and as far as I know, only the Troll agency offers that detour. There’s also the Snaefellsnes Peninsula excursion that appeals to me, but it seems time-consuming. Time-consuming like the Jokulsarlon tour I’ve already booked. (But that’s on the first day, so I’ll still be full of energy!) By the last day, I’ll probably be running on empty... Otherwise, I’ll be doing 3 4x4 excursions that I’m really excited about: 1 in Thorsmork Valley, 1 in Landmannalaugar, and 1 in Kerlingarfjöll.

So, Golden Circle or no Golden Circle—that’s the question... Or maybe a relaxed day visiting Reykjavik and a lagoon. Blue Lagoon? Sky Lagoon? Meh...

Hi, just a quick note mainly for Samsong, even if he’s still giving me the silent treatment. I’ve been in Nan since yesterday and... I love it! So thanks, Thierry. It’s exactly the kind of place I’d been dreaming of... Even if communication is a bit tough, it’s not impossible. They don’t even know the most basic English words! Everyone laughs and they’re the first to pull out their phones to... translate. They’re even quicker on the uptake than I am. And then there’s the time I say Nan (pronounced "Nane"). They don’t understand me. After a while (sometimes a long one), they reply: "Ah, Nan?" (pronounced "Nane") 😵🤳😃

The town is exactly how you described it back in 2022. Though I’m surprised to find so many trendy, slightly intellectual "Cafés." Apparently, coffee—excellent everywhere—is king in Nan. It feels like a university town. And it seems pretty lively at night! But for now, I’m going to bed early. I caught a nasty cold, which didn’t stop me from walking 12 km this morning. But I came back to my accommodation by 3 PM (gorgeous and luxurious with top-notch service for 800 baht—even a cute local welcome gift this morning, plus other unexpected touches like a bottle of honey and chrysanthemum flowers for tea. The lady must’ve guessed I was coming down with something yesterday). I thought about going out for dinner but didn’t have the energy. I think I’ve got at least 39°C fever...

Anyway, I’m sending you this message, Thierry, because you mentioned a daily bus to Chiang Rai, so I didn’t look into it. But now it’s a real problem—no buses to Chiang Rai, only taxis. At least 2,500 baht for the cheapest one! I’ll check the bus station directly tomorrow. Online, it’s all taxis, no buses. I’d like to explore the countryside/mountains if I can find an affordable driver. Any ideas for destinations or itineraries? Thanks.

Hi everyone, I’m planning a trip from mid-January to the end of February but I just can’t make up my mind 😕 I’ve looked into a few different options: Brazil, Cambodia, and Ecuador. The last one really appeals to me, but what’s making me hesitate is the risk of our trip being a bit too rainy (literally ), We’re more drawn to the Andes, exploring colonial cities, typical villages, markets, and a bit of the coast. We’ve already gotten a taste of this in Bolivia, Colombia, and Chile. Plus, we’d love to do part of it by car since we’re used to driving at our own pace and stopping whenever we feel like it. Anyway, time’s running out, and I need to decide so I can finalize a route and book the tickets!! Can anyone help me make up my mind or decide to postpone it for later? But for this year, I don’t have any other time slot to travel. Thanks for reading this far! !

I'm urgently planning a trip to Tunisia in November, backpacker-style (no agency, no guide or taxi, public transport, youth hostels or small hotels, local restaurants). I'm not interested in the beach, and I like to take my time at archaeological sites and museums (twice as long as the average visitor). I'm aiming for about two weeks, give or take.

First, I'm trying to roughly outline a route/schedule so I can book my flight as soon as possible (no desert in the south this time—I went there years ago and want to stay independent). I’ve sketched out the following itinerary, knowing that apparently, there are quite a few towns without budget-friendly hotels (even on Airbnb), which means I’ll be staying longer where they’re available. Three questions: 1. Does this seem reasonable overall (time spent in each city)? 2. Should I add other cities, maybe in the northwest? 3. For hotels, in November, is it better to scout options on booking sites first, then book on the spot for cheaper rates (no site commission + possible negotiation)? Also, are hotels not listed online and found randomly on-site much cheaper?

Hello, I’m heading to Réunion in early October with my girlfriend for two weeks. Out of the 15 days, we’d like to do about 5 days of hiking—maybe a 3-day/2-night trek and two day hikes.

I’ve seen tons of hiking options online, but I’m a bit overwhelmed when it comes to choosing. Hikes like the Tour de Mafate trek, Piton des Neiges, Piton de la Fournaise… we’d love to do those too.

We’ll have a rental car if needed. No problem walking for 6 hours a day (we’re pretty active).

Which hikes would you recommend?

Our flights are booked, and we’ll arrive in Thailand at the beginning of January.

Originally, we were supposed to spend 14 days there. But after booking the flights and seeing the prices, we’ll now be there for 20 days instead.

Our initial plan was: 2 days in Bangkok 1 day in Ayutthaya 4 days in Chiang Mai 6 days around Krabi

So we have 7 more days to fill. What do you recommend?

An extra day in Bangkok? Adding more days in the north? If so, where? Exploring another region, like Kanchanaburi or Cheow Lan Lake? Traveling north in stages instead of taking the overnight train?

A few extra details about us: For us, vacation isn’t about relaxation—we love walking, exploring, and packed days don’t bother us. Hiking for hours and doing active things is what makes us happy. That said, we also enjoy visiting villages and towns if they’re worth the detour. In Thailand, we’d like to visit temples too. We’re early risers, so our days tend to be long. 🙂 In short, we like to keep things moving during our trips. 😉

Unfortunately, seeing terraced rice fields isn’t possible in January. I read there are rice fields around Sukhothai. Are they green in January?

In the north, do you recommend Doi Inthanon, Huai Nam Dang, or Doi Chiang Dao National Parks? Which one is the most beautiful and best for January?

Okay, Palermo—we know it. We go there to marvel at the architectural wonders born from the Arab-Norman-Byzantine-Gothic mix. And rightly so. We also go to treat our taste buds to all kinds of delights, both savory and sweet. Again, rightly so. We go to succumb to the charms of Palermo’s women, their sun-kissed skin glowing with golden highlights. Still, rightly so. And all while fantasizing about a mafia we’ll never actually see. Anyway.

But you’ll also find street art everywhere, even in the historic center. Sometimes, you just need to step a few meters away from the main tourist highways like Cassaro, Via Maqueda, or the main arteries of the Ballarò, Capo, or Vucciria markets to stumble upon some amazing murals. Duck into one or two slightly grimy alleys, weaving past trash and crumbling walls, and you’ll find real gems.

For example, just 50 meters south of the main artery of the Mercato del Capo, there’s a great spot with dozens of murals in a tiny neighborhood of run-down mini-houses. You’ll find plenty more south of the Mercato di Ballarò, in the Albergheria (the grittier side, not the one near Cassaro). There’s some in Ballarò itself too, but it’s hard to spot when the market’s in full swing with stalls everywhere. La Kalsa isn’t left out either, nor is Vucciria—just step away from the restaurant-packed streets.

January 26th marks my first steps in Africa. I usually organize my trips without any assistance. But for Tanzania-Kenya, I need some advice. There will be 4 adults looking for authenticity over a month. How do we visit southern Kenya and northern Tanzania? Do we need guides? A driver-guide? What are the must-see spots? How do we get around? Rent a car? The cost of safaris seems exorbitant—is it justified? Isn’t there a way to do it with a local guide on foot? Can we improvise once we’re there? In August, is it easy to find accommodation/homestays in Bialowieza without booking in advance? What about the other parks in the area?

Hi there, We’re joining an MSC Preziosa cruise in early July from Hamburg via Iceland. The MSC shore excursions are way overpriced, so we’d like to book through Get Your Guide or Tripadvisor. Even though we’re seasoned travelers, this is our first cruise, and we’re not sure about docking durations, arrival ports, disembarkation times, or how far excursion meeting points are from the ship...
