Je suis actuellement en Asie et j'entends plein de routards me dire que le Perou c'est l'horreur pour les vols et la delinquance, j'aimerais bien avoir l'avis de personnes qui y sont allees. Sinon, nous ne disposons que de deux semaines et comptons nous concentrer sur le sud (arequipa - Cuzco...). Je suis preneuse de tout conseil sur l'itineraire sachant que nous y serons au mois d'Aout! Par ailleurs, je pense voyager assez cool car mes parents viennent nous rejoindre et c'est leur premier voyage hors de France. Pensez vous qu'il est possible de louer une voiture? Overall, what do you think?

I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?

We (a couple) are heading to Indonesia from July 9th to August 15th (I already know some spots). > We’re hesitating about the direction of the route: Java/Bali/Nusa/Flores/Sula or Java/Sula/Flores/Bali—does it depend on the rain and flights? (That’s my first question, by the way :)) We land in Jkt on the 9th (follow-up question: where to stay? We saw the Wonderloft for 20 €—does that seem reasonable? I used to pay way less a long time ago). We’d like to leave for Borobudur on the 10th in the mid-afternoon (question 2: train or VIP bus—we’ll have just landed—nighttime or not?). Next question: any chill but nice places to stay in Borobudur, Yogyakarta, and Solo? We’re thinking one full day in Borobudur, then Yogyakarta (1 day), then Solo (1 day). Does that work time-wise without rushing?

After that, we’re heading toward the volcanoes (I always mix them up… any tips?) and crossing over to Bali (2 days?). If I’m calculating right, we’ll be in Java from the 9th to the 18th—does that sound okay to you? Or too much? I’m struggling to estimate how long temples and volcanoes take to visit.

Bali: I used to stay around Seminyak or Canggu. What’s the best place to stay now without breaking the bank? Somewhere not overrun by Australian surfers or hipster restaurants? Another question: where and how to rent a scooter in Bali? (So we can easily get to the temples and Ubud?) Is there still a way to see Kecak without it feeling super touristy, or is it just for tourists now?

We’re detouring to Nusa Penida: same deal—I want to see rays but don’t necessarily want to dive. I’ve heard the sea can be rough. Where to stay for 2–3 chill days? What to do there? It’s all new to me (haven’t researched it yet).

Then to get to Flores: do we *have* to go back through Bali and take a flight? I haven’t looked into Flores or Sulawesi much yet, so I’m not even sure what questions to ask ;) Feel free to point me in the right direction—thanks!

I’m planning my next trip in September, and after two self-drive trips to Botswana last year, I’d love to explore Kruger. Since I’m used to camping, I’m thinking of renting an equipped van from Kitted Africa (a small Suzuki van—thanks Safari Expert!) to sleep in a tent and occasionally in a hut.

Here’s my provisional itinerary, and I’d love to hear your thoughts if you don’t mind. I’ve got 13 nights to plan in Kruger. The rental company is based in Nelspruit.

Entering from the south: 14-15-16.09: 3 nights at Crocodile Bridge or Lower Sabie 17-18-19.09: 3 nights at Skukuza 20-21.09: 2 nights at Satara 22-23-24.09: 3 nights at Olifants 25-26.09: 2 nights at Tamboti or Talamati

Exiting the park on 27.09 via Orpen Gate, then heading to Blyde River Canyon for a night in a hotel or elsewhere. 28.09: Return to Nelspruit, drop off the van, and stay in a hotel. 29.09 (midday): Airlink flight to Johannesburg, then an evening return flight to GVA.

What do you think? Too many nights here, not enough there?

I’ll be traveling solo, I love driving, and I enjoy settling in the middle of nature to listen, observe, and take photos (Botswana was perfect for that).

Hi, We’re a young couple planning to travel to South Africa after spending about three weeks in Namibia. We’ll arrive in Cape Town around mid-December, with no fixed travel duration (though our budget will eventually set a limit). After browsing through the forum, we’ve realized the country is packed with incredible spots, which makes choosing an itinerary tough. We’re looking for stunning landscapes, hikes, and so on. Maybe somewhere a bit outside Cape Town, like Fish Hoek, and just visit the city occasionally. After that, we’ll have plenty of time (about 2 to 2.5 months) to explore the country. We’d like to take our time. In your opinion, is it better to focus on the Cape Town region, or is it reasonable to consider more distant areas like the Drakensberg or Blyde River Canyon? Can everything be done by car if we take our time, or are domestic flights sometimes more practical? Budget-wise, how much do car rentals cost? For accommodations, we usually look at Airbnb—are they affordable in South Africa? What’s the average nightly rate outside the biggest cities? Are there other platforms you’d recommend for saving on lodging? Finally, regarding safety, are there any regions to avoid besides Johannesburg? Alright, I’m scaling back the kilometers thanks to the relevance and patience of our Cambodia experts! Here’s yet another hesitation /\ When I arrive early on 01/12 in PP, I have the choice between spending a day in PP (booking a convenience room for half a day and leaving by night bus), sleeping in PP and taking the bus to SR the next morning, or hiring a driver to head back up to PP with a nice little stop and maybe sleeping in Kampong Thom or Kampong Chhnang, then heading to SP on the 13th. Then from the 13th to the 17th or 18th, exploring Angkor. I continue to Kampong Thom and stay for 2 nights (if I didn’t do it on the way there), but I might be templed-out by then. I head to Kampong Cham, where I’ll spend 2 nights—one on the island and one on the mainland. Next, I go to Kampot and Kep: probably 2 nights in Kampot, 2 in Kep, and 1 night on Tonsay Island. On 01/28, I return to PP until 01/29. One detail: how long does it take to get from downtown PP to the new airport? Because I leave on 01/29 around 7:50 PM... I’ve got a ton of questions, but I’ll try to summarize them somewhat:

Do you have any recommendations for tour operators for the safaris? Right now, I’ve planned 11 days for the "safari" portion from Masai Mara to Tsavo, with a lot of returns to Nairobi—is it possible to optimize this without booking a full tour with a single agency? Aside from the cost, I’m worried I won’t feel very free if we do a 9-day experience covering all of it, but maybe that’s the most recommended option? Do all the destinations up to Mombasa require booking a tour and hiring a guide in advance (or having your own vehicle), or are some more open to improvisation? We’d also like to meet people and not just do safaris, but our current itinerary doesn’t really allow for that—would you recommend cutting back on safaris and visiting villages between Nairobi and the coast instead? We were also considering the Taita Hills if possible—what do you think? Is Kilifi a good idea? We’ve heard it’s more authentic than Diani and we’re interested in the bioluminescent plankton, but I feel like the detour complicates the trip a bit.

You can probably tell from my questions that our biggest concern right now is booking the safaris. We can’t really afford to spend 2000 € each for 4 days, but we also won’t be taking a trip like this again anytime soon, so we want to make the most of it!

My partner and I are planning a 21-day self-drive trip from Victoria Falls to Cape Town, flying from Montreal to Victoria Falls and renting a 4x4. Arrival on August 12th in Sofia at 2:00 PM → pick up rental car, visit Sofia. 13th: Sofia → Rila → Sofia 14th: Sofia to Plovdiv, overnight in Plovdiv 15th: Plovdiv to Nessebar (or Sozopol—which is better?) 16th/17th/18th: Exploring the Black Sea coast, based in Sozopol/Nessebar 19th: Bus from Burgas to Istanbul (7-hour trip) 20th-21st-22nd-23rd: Istanbul 24th: Return bus from Istanbul to Burgas. Overnight in Burgas 25th: Burgas → Veliko Tarnovo (Bojentsi) 26th: Veliko Tarnovo to Sofia via Koprivshtitsa 27th: Early flight home

→ In this itinerary, I’ve planned 4 full days in Istanbul. I could reduce it to 3 (since we’ll also spend the evening of the 19th there) and add an extra day to the return trip from Burgas to Sofia, around Veliko Tarnovo/Koprivshtitsa.

My questions: -My 17-year-old son and I are passionate about music, especially klezmer, Romani, and jazz. Any good spots in Sofia, Istanbul, or elsewhere? -Things to do with an 11-year-old kid? -Experiences with the Burgas-Istanbul bus?

Hi everyone,

We’re heading to the Pacific Northwest (USA) and Western Canada this summer. We’ve made some progress planning, but we still have a few questions.

Our trip is mostly nature-focused—hiking, wildlife spotting (ideally bears, orcas/whales, otters, etc.), mountains, forests—and a few days in cities, though we’re not big on museums.

We’re looking at flying into Seattle (cheaper than Vancouver), then renting a car and staying in Airbnbs.

A few years ago, we traveled through eastern Canada/USA (Halifax/Montréal/Boston/Halifax) and ended up driving *way* too much and switching accommodations too often. This time, we’d like to settle in a bit more.

Here’s our current plan:

- 2 nights in Seattle to avoid hitting the road right after the flight. One day for a quick city visit, then we’ll leave early after the second night. -> Heading to Olympic National Park from the south.

- 4 nights near Olympic National Park, likely around Forks. -> Then to Port Angeles and a ferry to Vancouver Island via Victoria (maybe 1 night there).

- 7 nights in Port Alberni, which seems like a central base for exploring Vancouver Island (Tofino, Pacific Rim, Cathedral Grove, etc.). We really want to enjoy the area without constantly packing and unpacking.

The issue is, that brings us to 13–14 nights, and we’d like to spend 2 in Vancouver.

We’re wondering if we should head farther north on the island and add a few more days, or reduce our stay in Port Alberni to explore the north as well.

After that, we’d have about a week left. We’re considering a detour near the Canadian Rockies, then slowly making our way back to Seattle via North Cascades National Park.

Anyway, we’d love your input on all this!

I plan to travel mostly by bus and taxi (for destinations where I can’t take the bus), except for the trip from Kathmandu to Chitwan Park, where I’ll take a flight. Should I book the flight now, or can I do it once I arrive in Nepal? Is a trekking permit required for the hike from Panauti to Namo Buddha Monastery? And is it required for the trek from Dhulikhel to Nagarkot?

Is it better to book the Poon Hill trek in advance through an agency, or is it best to do it independently (without an agency) without a guide or porter? Is it easy to do this trek without getting lost? What’s the typical price for the Poon Hill trek when going through an agency? Is it better to book accommodations for the Poon Hill trek before leaving for Nepal, or can I easily find places to stay on the same day without prior booking? Is it possible to do both the sunrise excursion to Sarangkot and paragliding over the lake in one day (on my fifth and final day there)? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi everyone, I’m a die-hard fan of India, but it’s time I discovered Thailand too to broaden my Asian horizons. I’m heading there on January 19, 2025, for a 46-day trip (no visa needed as I’m French). I’ve pored over a few guidebooks and travel blogs. Based on what caught my interest, I’ve put together a rough itinerary and list of sights. But since I know absolutely nothing about Thailand, I’m kind of flying blind here. Since I’m not exactly a spring chicken anymore, I’ve opted for a few bases where I’ll stay several days in the same place. That way, I won’t have to change locations and hotels every day or so, packing and unpacking my suitcase constantly. Instead, I plan to explore the surrounding area each day, within a maximum radius of 50 to 70 km. So, first question: Is that kind of round-trip distance manageable in a day in Thailand? In India, renting a car for a day—with a driver—currently costs around 35 to 40 € per day. Knowing that 1,300 to 1,500 THB would be my absolute max, and even then, only if I don’t rent a car every single day. Which brings me to my second question: Am I being unrealistic? Otherwise—third question—once I’m settled in the city I’ve chosen as my base, can I get around within that 50–70 km radius using public transport? I’ve already booked all my hotels—with free cancellation—on booking.com at an average price of 950/1,000 THB per night. Does that put me in a good range for value for money? Or am I dreaming?

We already have a rough idea of the route we’d take, and I’m reaching out to the community to help us refine this journey. Here’s the plan: Day 1: Flight to Quito Days 2 and 3: Exploring Quito Days 4 and 5: Picking up the rental car and driving to Otavalo and Laguna Cuicocha Day 6: Drive to Papallacta via Cayambe to enjoy the hot springs in the evening Days 7 and 8: Drive to Lasso via Malachi – Excursions in Cotopaxi National Park. Laguna Limpiopungo Days 9 and 10: Laguna Quilotoa Day 11: Drive to Baños via Latacunga/Ambato to enjoy the hot springs in Baños Days 12 and 13: Hiking in the Chimborazo Reserve Day 14: Hiking in Sangay National Park Day 15: Drive to Guamote to arrive by late afternoon Day 16: Guamote market in the morning. Mon voyage prévu au Pérou a été annulé et du coup j'envisage de partir a la Reunion. Je préfère ne pas prendre de risque a partir a l'étranger avec ce covid et ses restrictions. Et franchement la Réunion ça fait longtemps que ça me tante. Je voulais déja savoir si 2 semaines est assez long ou il faut mieux prévoir plus long? Sinon pour ce qui est des logements vous conseillez quoi, plutôt changer de logement presque tous les jours ou prendre juste 3 ou 4 reservations pour la durée du séjour? Si c'est la deuxieme option, vous me conseillez de loger dans quels secteurs?

Avec ma femme et ma fille qui aura presque 4 ans en Aout, nous réfléchissons à partir en Grèce. Pas forcément dans les îles, plutôt Continentale. Dates : vers le 02/08 et jusqu'au 18, 19/08.

J'ai regardé un peu à gauche à droite et je ne tombe que sur des road trip. Ce qui est génial (j'en fait aussi) mais moins avec un enfant de même pas 4 ans.

En gros nous souhaiterions alterner les 2, c'est à dire prendre 2 3 points de chute et rayonner avec voiture de location. Nous arriverons et repartirons d’Athènes.

L'escapade serait éventuellement dans ce style là : Athènes Nauplie Leonidion Mistra et Sparte à côté Gythio Monemvasio (peut être) Athènes Nous sommes vraiment ouvert à toutes idées.

Notre style de voyage est surtout orienté, rencontre et paysages extérieurs. Pas intéréssé par les hotels resorts (location style AirBnb est le top). Et quand même un peu de détente et plage.

C'est pour ca que sur l'itinéraire indiqué plus haut, je pensais faire : - 2 jours Athènes (En air bnb par exemple) - 5, 6 jours ailleurs (toujours airbnb) - 5, 6 jours encore ailleurs (toujours airbnb) - 1, 2 jours sur Athènes avant de repartir

Du coup, vous qui êtes expert, avez vous des idées d'endroits où je pourrais louer et ensuite rayonner ? obligation d'avoir la voiture pour 10 12 jours ? ca ne me dérange pas de louer au jour le jour en fonction.

En ce qui concerne Miyajima, je me demande si l'île vaut toujours le détour étant donné que le torii est en réparation bien que le Mont Misen et le temple Daisho-In semblent très beaux.

Le premier itinéraire me semble plus équilibré en terme de trajets mais le second permet de pouvoir tirer profit du JR PASS au mieux.

Suite à un premier message posté en décembre et vos précieux avis et conseils (notamment Jungletroll ! merci), j'ai revu notre itinéraire pour le simplifier un peu car premier voyage en Asie...

Je pense également laisser tomber l'idée de louer une voiture de location 🤪 mais plutôt voyager avec un chauffeur privé (sauf Koh Phanga) pour plus de confort et sécurité .... Donc la question est comment organiser cela ? Par une agence ? Connaissez vous Evaneos que je viens de découvrir et qui semble organiser tout sur mesure avec des agents sur place... Je ne me sens pas vraiment capable de tout organiser par moi même et je n'aime pas partir à l'aventure...

Fin de journée sur place Jeudi 21/01 : matin Hin Bad Hot Spring ? et route vers Erawan OU monter jusqu'à Sangkhla Buri puis retour à Erawan (mais beaucoup de route il me semble) Vendredi 22/01 : Visite des cascades Erawan le matin et route vers Amphawa pour 2 nuits (si possible installation au bord du Mae Klong pas trop loin du marché flottant. Voilà, voilà, en gros avec certains endroits plus détaillés que d'autres en fonction de mes recherches.... La question se pose sur la fin du séjour, après Koh Phangan : chauffeur ou location de voiture car moins de route donc peut-être faisable... D'autre part, comment ça se passe avec un chauffeur privé ? Est-il en mesure de nous emmener voir des endroits auxquels nous n'avons pas forcément connaissance ? Sans être vraiment un guide, va-t-il quand même être en mesure de nous donner quelques infos essentiels ? Nous n'avons pas du tout l'habitude de ce mode de déplacement et avons peu de connaissance sur la culture et les habitudes de la Thailande (mis à part les mises en garde sur la façon de conduire, lol !)

Avez-vous des adresses à nous indiquer qui pourrait nous organiser cet itinéraire ? : je voudrais juste réserver les vols internationaux, voire les hébergements moi-même, mais c'est la partie, tranferts, déplacements, visite qui me posent énormément d'interrogation..

Est ce que vous aurez des conseils d'itinéraire pour voir un maximum sachant que nous allons attérir et repartir de Tel Aviv?

Est ce que vous conseillez la location de voiture? est ce que l'on peux aller en Cisjordanie/Palestine avec une plaque israellienne?

Quel est la sécurité sur place? est-ce la cisjordanie/Palestine dangereuse?

Je viens solliciter votre aide et vos précieux conseils pour une idée de road trip dans l'Ouest Américain prévu en avril 2020. Une chose est figé actuellement le VOL: => On arrive à LA et repart de SF. En tout, nous restons 11 jours sur place grosso modo.

Notre séjour est certes court mais avons d'une part l'habitude et d'autre part, nous y reviendrons. Nous partons en avril et ma femme est enseignante (déjà dit sur d'autre topic), d'ou le créneau disponible de 15 jours lié aux vacances scolaires.

Du coup, nous avons décidé de faire court à LA. Nous ne sommes pas intéressés plus que ça et nous pensons ainsi faire le premier après-midi sur LA puis une partie de la matinée avant de partir sur la route 66 vers le GC.

Autre concession, Yosémite et Death Valley. Ce sont évidemment des incontournables, mais au vu de la distance entre LV et San Francisco, il nous semble préférable de s'attarder (par exemple) une demi-journée suppl à Bryce ou Zion et ensuite depuis LV, prendre un vol direction SF. Nous avons vu des vols abordable avec SouthWest qui partent tôt et en moins de 2heures, on a rejoint San Fr. La route dans Yosemite et Death Valley est pour le coup très longue si j'ai bien compris surtout si c'est pour visiter ces 2 régions en 2 jours. Nous remettons ces sites pour notre prochaine venue (sniff, faut savoir faire des concessions dans la vie héhé).

Nous rendrons la voiture de location à l'aéroport de LAS Vegas (on la récupère dès le premier jour à LA). Qu'en pensez-vous ?

A San Francisco, nous avons noté que la voiture n'est une obligation pour visiter (contrairement à LA). Nous y passerons les 2 derniers jours avant de reprendre notre vol le samedi en fin d'après-midi pour Londres.

Et le matin du DAY4, on reste sur Flagstaff avant de partir vers MV. Bref, ce sont des ajustement que je n'ai pas indiqués sur l'itinéraire ci-dessus à ce stade. Je m'occuperai des détails dans un second temps, une fois que cet itinéraire semble ... okay.

CHENAI le 15/03 : arrivée à 2 h du matin et départ le soir même : bus de nuit direction Madurai

- MADURAI le 16/03 matin - départ le 20 matin - KODAIKANNAL le 20/03 fin milieu d'après midi - départ le 24 - THANJAVUR Entre le 24 et le 28 visite de Tirichirapalli / Tajore /Kumbakonam est il possible de voir traquillement ces sites en si peu de jours? je préfère voir que 2 sites et prendre mon temps que voir tout et bâcler les visites... dans quelle ville séjourner ? Thanjavur ou trichy? le choix de ces sites est il un bon choix ou il y a mieux? le site de mahabalipuram m'a l'air pas mal non plus. - FIN DU VOYAGE A PONDICHERY le 28 /03 et retour le 01/04 (avion le soir à Chenai)- envie de flâner à Pudu.... ou peut être le retour le 02/04 le soir

je prépare un voyage en Irlande pour l'été 2020, avec nos deux ados qui auront 14 et 16 ans. Je cherche à varier les activités car les beaux paysages et les randos, pour les ados, ça va un peu, mais bon... 😛

Nous arrivons le samedi 18 juillet à Cork et repartons le samedi 8 août de Cork également, ce qui nous laisse 3 semaines pour bien découvrir le pays. Nous ferons l'impasse sur toute la partie Sud-Ouest (Connemara, Burren, Kerry, etc.) que mon mari et moi avons déjà visité. Le passage par le comté de Tipperary (région de Cashel) au départ est obligatoire, car nous devons récupérer notre fille dans la famille Irlandaise qui l'accueillera les 15 jours précédents.

J'aimerais savoir si l'itinéraire ci-dessous tient la route, et surtout, si nous n'allons pas trop courir. J'ai bien conscience du fait que les distances sont trompeuses en Irlande avec les petites routes, mais je fais néanmoins le choix réfléchi de nous poser plusieurs jours aux différents endroits pour rayonner, afin de ne pas changer d'hébergement trop souvent.

Quelles seraient vos suggestions de points de chute dans les différentes régions où nous allons nous "poser" afin de rayonner correctement ?

Par ailleurs, avez-vous des suggestions d'activités ou de visites à faire avec des ados ? Je pense que mon programme ci-dessous est déjà pas mal et assez varié, mélant paysages, vieilles (voire très vieilles) pierres, histoire et "insolite", mais si vous avez d'autres idées, je prends !

Je viens vous proposer mon itinéraire pour l'été prochain, avec les interrogations qui vont avec : est-ce que les points de chutes pour dormir sont judicieux, est-ce que la durée des étapes est correcte, faut-il rajouter des nuits à un endroit et en enlever à d’autres etc… Que faire sur la route de chaque étape? Arrêts sympas, incontournables? C’est une ébauche et les questions sont encore nombreuses ! De plus, je ne suis pas encore complètement fixée sur les lieux précis où nous dormirons puisque hormis l’avion je n’ai encore rien réservé. Je n’ai pas prévu de dormir dans les Parcs car je ne souhaite pas me “trimballer” des duvets (ils ne sont la plupart du temps pas fournis) et j’aimerais ne pas dépasser les 90 euros par nuit... C'est un itinéraire très classique puisque nous sommes novices sur la destination. Ce sera également notre premier road trip puisque malgré nos nombreux voyages nous n'avons jamais loué de véhicule, nos destinations précédentes se prêtant bien aux transports en commun. Nous serons 3, un couple avec notre fils de 15 ans.

J’ai des interrogations aussi par rapport aux parcs. Si j’ai bien compris, deux organismes se partagent la gestion des Parcs : Sepaq et Parc Canada Si je résume les Parcs que je souhaite visiter, ça donnerait : SEPAQ : Fjord Saguenay, Gaspésie, Bonaventure/Percé, Bic Canada : Mauricie, Forillon Est-ce que j’en ai oublié? Les tarifs : on paie à chaque entrée, c’est ça? exemple si on y va deux jours, on paie 2 fois? Alors est-ce que cela vaut le coup de prendre le pass annuel? Mon fils de 15 ans ne paie pas. J’imagine qu’il faut aussi rajouter le prix du parking au prix du parc? Excusez-moi pour ces questions naïves mais j’ai du mal à faire le tri dans toutes les infos que je lis en ce moment !
