Hello Community!

I’ll be in Iceland from June 26 to July 14 (19 days). The trip is split into two parts: Day 1 to Day 13 as a 4x4 road trip / Day 14 to Day 19 as the Laugavegur Trek. We’ll be in a 4x4 like a Jimny with a roof tent, and for the trek, we’ll be self-sufficient (tent, sleeping mat, etc.).

I’ve tried to put together a summary below. Even though I’ve already used the forum a lot to build this itinerary, I’d love to hear your thoughts: any improvements? additions? priorities? recommended campgrounds?

Hi everyone, I’m planning my first trip to Greece from October 29th to November 23rd and I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions on the itinerary I’m considering. For a first visit, I’ll definitely cover the traditional tourist route, but I’m also open to off-the-beaten-path ideas. I’m curious and interested in history, archaeological sites, and the islands—more for culture than beaches, anyway, especially in November!

Here’s the plan: 3–4 days in Athens, 2 days in Nafplio: visiting Epidaurus and Mycenae, Stop in Olympia on the way to Delphi via Patras by bus? To avoid backtracking to Athens; 2 days in Delphi, including the site and Mount Parnassus, Explore the Ionian coast and a few islands? A few days in Corfu, 3 days in Meteora, 2–3 days in Thessaloniki, Direct flight from Thessaloniki to Heraklion, Crete, 3–4 days in Crete, November 22nd–23rd: overnight ferry back to Athens to catch my return flight to Montreal.

You’ve probably guessed I’m traveling solo. It might seem a bit scattered right now—I’ve started reading up on Greece, and there are must-see spots. What feels unclear are the 4–5 days between Delphi and Corfu. Also, mid-November in the islands might not be ideal if the weather’s bad.

Is Corfu worth it? Maybe there are other options—like a few days in Albania? Just throwing the idea out there.

Hi everyone, I’m supposed to be heading to Romania (Bucharest & Transylvania) next week for 10 days, and I’m really worried about the weather. Every day, the forecast seems to show rain (Sibiu, Brașov, Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca). But it’s never clear like "rain all day"—it looks like a mix of sunny spells, rain, and clouds. So I was wondering, for those who know Romania well, what’s the weather generally like in Transylvania in spring? Is it common to have mountain thunderstorms in the late afternoon, or is it more persistent rain that lasts almost all day? Thanks in advance! 🙂

Who among you has explored northern Italy along the Mediterranean, in Liguria? I’m dreaming of cycling there from Nice, crossing through villages like Menton, Ventimiglia, Dolceacqua, Apricale, Monte Ceppo, Triora, Ponte di Nava, Ormea, Garessio, Ceva, Mondovì, and Cuneo.

Beyond that, it’s the route toward Queyras in France via the Col dell’Agnello, on the slopes of Monte Viso.

A few questions for those who know the area: Is it interesting by bike? Is the road surface decent? Is car traffic low, or at least manageable?

We had this plan back in 2009 as part of a Nice-Rome crossing, but we ended up doing it differently. I might get to revisit it this summer (solo this time, not on a tandem like we usually do).

I’m so happy to share my climb with you, and if it inspires you to take it on, then it’ll be a success. Sometimes I’ll use the local language because I think it’s essential to connect with the people we meet along the way.

This adventure took place last year, just before winter, right after summer, and smack in the middle of autumn. That really sets the time of year. After climbing Mont-Beuvray—a story I shared here ages ago—I decided to tackle a much more adventurous peak: the summit of Haut-Folin, which rises to 901 m, and that’s no small feat, let’s be honest. It’s located in the Bois du Roi massif. Up there, you often brush against the clouds, which seem to take a mischievous pleasure in wrapping around you.

I’m going fully self-sufficient—no porters, no guide, no cook. I’m just treating myself to a very short approach flight. The flight is early in the morning on a small plane, the *Spirit of St Bernadette*, and it’s perfect. I’ll enjoy watching it deliver mail in the mountains. The pilot will drop me off at the hamlet of *La Pierre en Eau*, near Anost, a small village at the foot of this forest-covered giant.

Physical condition I’m now really seasoned for such an expedition because I’ve trained every day by walking to the village grocery store—round trip, in all weather, that’s 2.1 km. The 451 m elevation gain won’t be a problem for me. .../...

While looking into other things to do and see in the area, I’m wondering whether it’s better to book ready-made excursions or if it’s possible—and preferable—to hire a taxi for the day (Mount Sinai and St. Catherine’s Monastery, Nuweiba, and Colored Canyon). Important: I’ve been living in Myanmar for several years now, and I speak and write Burmese correctly (though I still have a strong French accent). I really don’t want this post to make you think that traveling in Myanmar right now is easy. It’s crucial to understand that the country is unstable—this isn’t the place for a relaxing vacation. The security situation and areas open to tourists are constantly changing.

I started my trip in Bagan. Flights were fully booked, so I took a VIP overnight bus from Yangon. Along the way, we encountered 4 checkpoints run by the military. The bus conductor announces that it’s forbidden to use your phone during these stops. Each time, the conductor hands over the passenger list to the checkpoint, and sometimes one or two passengers are asked to step out for questioning before we’re allowed to continue. I didn’t have to interact directly with the soldiers.

In Bagan, there are quite a few local visitors but very, very few foreign tourists... I remember my trip in December 2019 when I’d hear French spoken regularly...

I’m staying at the Bagan Thande Hotel for 130,000 kyats, or about thirty dollars at the current exchange rate.

Hi everyone on Voyage Forum! In mid-September 2025, a group of friends and I are heading to Montenegro for a week. On my must-see list, I’ve obviously got the Bay of Kotor and Lake Skadar. Besides those two excursions, what else would you recommend seeing or visiting? Just to note, we’ll be staying in the Bijela area.

Another question: Is Tivat Airport operating during that period? I think Transavia flies there. Otherwise, we’d have to go through Dubrovnik, which I’d prefer to avoid—partly because I’ve been there before and partly to skip the border wait.

A turbulent period came to an end around 2022.

Many of us have returned to big trips after making only very small ones—or none at all. For a little anecdote, my dentist told me that due to the lack of travel, a lot of clients treated themselves to implants they would’ve otherwise skipped. The joy of traveling again probably gave some vacationers smiles they hadn’t dared to show before!

Here, you can share what’s on your mind: Have these new, real trips disappointed you, rejuvenated you, or just relieved a long frustration?

For my part, not being so young anymore, there was definitely relief but no explosion of joy. I just had the feeling of picking up the thread of life after a foggy pause, with the bitter taste that 2 or 3 years of my life had been partly stolen from me.

J'ai réalisé aujourd'hui que la chaine France O allait s'arrêter. J'en suis extrêmement triste et en colère contre les gens qui ont pris cette décision. C'était la seule chaîne de France Télévision que j'aimais regarder, la seule qui montrait une culture riche dans ce pays de nos jours (la musique, la littérature). Il parait qu'on ne va rien perdre et qu'elle va enrichir les autres chaines du service public. Je pense au contraire que ses sujets seront dilués à dose homéopatique et qu'il ne sera plus possible de s'en imprégner.

Après avoir du renoncer à notre projet 2020 dans l’ouest américain suite à l’annulation des vols de fin juin et avec l’actualité actuelle non propice aux voyages ( bon, nous avons quand même pu partir 10 jours dans les Cyclades en plan B) j’envisage, si la situation s’améliore, un nouveau projet pour l’été 2021 avec un départ mi juillet ( au lieu de notre préféré fin juin..).. on va essayer d'y croire!!

Bonjour, Nous avions un périple Paris New York puis New York Salt Lake City - Yellowstone et retour Denver - Paris. 15 jours tout de réserver par nous mêmes : hôtels, activités, vols avec 4 compagnies. Norwegian, compagnie low cost a remboursé sans difficultés. Level : nous avons appelé en Espagne et bien dit que la loi nous permettait de recevoir un remboursement. Reçu 7 jours après JetBlue : sur leur site pas de réponse, par Messenger nous avons reçu un accord pour remboursement Air France : les pires!! ils ne répondent pas, un robot sur Messenger, et nous avons rempli un formulaire ( mes réservations, référence dossier, vos vols et à droite de modification il y a annulation de vol et avoir)

J'aimerais savoir quels sont les meilleurs endroits pour randonner en Grèce continentale ? Nous avons deux enfants de 8 et 10 ans qui marchent bien, nous souhaiterions effectuer des randonnées en montagne de quelques heures dans des jolis coins. Merci 🙂

je souhaite organiser une randonnée itinérante de 2 semaines avec mes deux garçons dans la Haute Ariège (environ 8 kms/jour, avec 500 m de dénivelé positif journalier environ). Je recherche des endroits sauvages, aux paysages variés. Mes enfants apprécieront : lacs, cascades, et cours d'eau, forêts, mais aussi pics acérés (ils aimeraient bien voir ce que c'est que de se piquer les fesses au sommet d'une montagne). Enfin, ils seraient amusés de passer la frontière, et évidemment de voir un ours 😉. Les infos que j'ai pu obtenir à ce jour : Vicdessos et Auzat sont les points de départ apparemment, de belles balades dans des vallées sauvages. La zone du Mont Valier semble sympa. Il y a aussi le cirque de Cagateille. Et j'entends parler aussi du Couserans. Apparemment le Val d'Aran en Espagne est magnifique selon un opérateur de randonnée, et j'ai trouvé un circuit le Pass'Aran de 5 jours (donc peut-être 8 jours avec les enfants !) (traverser la frontière offre-t-il des paysages et une ambiance différente ?) En gros, tout est joli dans cette zone ! Je pense qu'il faut que je choisisse : soit partie Ouest : (Couserans + Val d'Aran), soit partie centrale (Mt Valier), soit partie est. j'ai dit ça, j'ai rien dit ! Quels sont vos conseils ? Je vous remercie !

Je cherche des idées et suggestions pour une escapade du 12 juillet au 25 août 2020, sinon peut-être en septembre ! Dans l'idéal, je prévoyais un voyage en Inde à l'automne, mais les restrictions d'entrée à cause du Covid-19 s'appliquent peut-être encore pour longtemps.

Je suis éventuellement partant pour un covoiturage et preneur de toute info au sujet déplacement. Je voyage en sac à dos, évite foules et tourisme de masse et privilégie les spots naturels et authentiques hors des sentiers battus.
