Hi there, I’m struggling to get back into hiking and I’m considering tackling the GR5 from Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean shores in August-September.

Since I can’t plan daily distances in advance, I’ll be bringing gear to bivouac.

I’m not familiar with this route and wanted to get an idea of water resupply options before setting off: are sources and streams still flowing easily in late summer on this GR, or should I prepare for long dry stretches? 😐

We were invited to a friend’s wedding in this beautiful part of Brittany, so we took the opportunity to spend a few days there—first on the Pink Granite Coast and then in Cornwall. Our friends, who are from the Trégor region, had found us a really nice little gîte in Tonquédec, just a stone’s throw from the coast. It was the perfect base for exploring the area’s iconic sites. We stayed in a lovely little house that combined authenticity, comfort, elegance, and tranquility.

Our first trip to the coast was to Ploumanac’h, a small village we discovered thanks to Stéphane Bern’s show. It’s an adorable little fishing port where we parked the car before continuing on foot along the sea. It’s charming—more than that, it’s magical!



Our first walk, our first hike along the coastal path, and our first photos of these massive rocks bathed in light.





The views change with every turn, and so do the surprises—especially the view of the Château de Costaérès.

The path through the woods leads us to the Chapel of Saint Guirec, which overlooks the beach.





This pretty little beach is famous for its oratory, which sits in the middle of the sand and houses the statue of St. Guirec. In the past, young women hoping to marry within the year would often pray to him—they’d stick a needle into his nose! Today, the statue is made of stone, but back then, it was wooden, which must’ve made it easier.





It’s really charming, well-sheltered, and the water is crystal clear. We noticed that everywhere we went!

I’m torn between starting from the Happy Valley (Agouti, Aït Bouguemez) or the southern slope (Skoura, Kalaat El M'Gouna). I tried to go 5 years ago, 2 weeks before COVID, and ended up switching to Siroua based on Willempsie’s advice, given the season... but mid-May should be fine now, right? There haven’t been many recent stories about Norway in winter, and since I had trouble finding info on winter hikes, I thought I’d share a little travel journal.

Back in September 2024, while planning our summer 2025 trip to Norway, I joined some Facebook groups dedicated to travel in Scandinavia and started reading travel blogs. Since winter trips were being planned at the time, I came across posts with stunning photos of northern Norway in winter. I’d always pictured monotonous landscapes of pine forests and frozen lakes, so I was pleasantly surprised to see fjords, mountain ranges, and charming colorful cabins—just like in the Lofoten Islands. Turns out, the vast pine forests are more typical of Finnish Lapland. Norway, north of the Arctic Circle, is actually much more diverse. That was all it took to suggest this destination to my three guys for our winter vacation. After some research, early March seemed ideal—good weather, long enough daylight, and great chances for northern lights. A direct flight from Paris to Tromsø sealed the deal. The only downside? The cost of cars, accommodations, and activities nearly made us back out! Everything except flights is really expensive.

Since our oldest son had an important school deadline in June, he decided to skip the trip, so we ended up going as a trio. We took a Transavia round-trip flight from Orly to Tromsø for an amazing trip from March 1st to 8th.

Hi there, I’ve been visiting Thailand for about twenty years now. We’ve been there around 5-6 times, always spending 2-3 days in BKK and then heading to Koh Samui. This year, we wanted to explore the southeast coast of Thailand for a change—from Hua Hin down to Surat Thani. We were strongly advised against going any further south.

However, we noticed that the beaches in Hua Hin aren’t exactly stunning, and the further south you go, the more beautiful they get—white, fine sand like in Samui. Do you have any recommendations for gorgeous beaches along this coast? Thanks!

So, summer 2025 is when I turn 40, and to mark the occasion, I had the idea of doing a road trip through Northern Spain. Since I’ll be traveling with my two kids (9 and 6½ years old), I’m tied to school holidays, but I’m hoping the northern regions of Spain are a little less crowded than the Costa Brava.

We’d leave from Lyon to reach the Atlantic coast, head down to the Basque Country, cross the Spanish border, and then visit: Cantabria - Asturias - Galicia. It’s not exactly around the corner—I’ve seen that it’s about 1,500 km (one way) from Lyon to Galicia. But for this adventure, I’ve got 3 to 3½ weeks. The twist would be doing it in an electric car, stopping for 2-3 days here and there before moving on (alternating between wild camping and hotels). Why electric? Because it’s my company car, and my employer covers the charging and toll costs. Over 3 weeks of vacation, that adds up to big savings.

Question: Do you think this plan is doable? Aside from the charging stops, does the route seem too ambitious for 3 weeks with two kids? And in July/August, are these regions not too packed?

I’ve just got two tickets for my partner and me to spend 18 days starting from Oaxaca. We arrive on the morning of 10/27 and leave on the afternoon of 11/13.

I’ve already booked a lodge for 7 nights about 20 km from Oaxaca. The idea is to be nearby, especially for Día de los Muertos, which my partner has been dreaming about.

I’ve got a few questions:

- First, do you think renting a car is essential, or are the local bus networks (around Oaxaca) dense and reliable enough? - Roughly how much do taxi rides cost? - After our stay in Oaxaca (where the schedule is still flexible), I plan to head to the Pacific coast around Mazunte, with a goal of visiting a lagoon at night to swim in the bioluminescent algae and possibly witness turtle hatchings. But so far, I haven’t noted much else. Any suggestions for things to do/see around Mazunte, or along the route between Oaxaca and the Pacific coast?

I’ve gotten a lot of conflicting advice—on many websites, it says February in Mauritius is strongly discouraged, but when I check the temperature history, it seems like the best time (for those who love the heat and swimming without any issues). I’ve noted that it’s a month with frequent showers, but nothing compared to the monsoon season in Asia. Any thoughts? Thanks

Hey Cyclists! So, here we go—departure this Thursday from Giromagny (90), still in bikepacking mode, but this time with my wife’s bike lol.

12 years later, back in the Alps for a crossing all the way to Barcelonnette. From there, I’ll head toward Vaucluse and face Mont Ventoux for the first time 🚴‍♂️. Until then, the Alps will most likely leave their mark 😅🚵‍♂️🚴‍♂️. I’m a bit nervous about the Col de la Colombière—if all goes well, I should leave a wreath there lol! The return after Mont Ventoux should be less traumatic (or maybe not).

Bonsoir, nous avons effectué cette croisière du 25 juillet au 1er aout. C'est vraiment une croisière dédiée aux randonneurs (il y a d'autres activités mais en minorités). Donc comme c'est pas notre passion, on a été déçu. De très jolies paysages, de chouette visites guidées (trop peu) mais une majorité de randonnées. C'est le première fois qu'on faisait Ponant, on était dans le bateau L'Austral, étions environ 60 croisiéristes avec quelques employés français (deux ou trois au bar, 4-5 au restaurant, et d'autres à la réception. Pour le reste, une majorité de Philippins pour les cabines bien sur, restaurant, bars, etc... (toujours aussi aimables, souriants, bravo à eux). On trouve un petit théâtre avec 5 danseurs (qui ne se produisent pas tous les soirs, mais qui sont très doués), 2 chanteuses et un chanteur qui se produisent dans les bars en fonction des heures (que si on applaudit pas, personne n'applaudit.....bien triste tout cela). Et vers 23h00 il y a peu ou plus rien. Dés l'embarquement, on nous change de numéro de cabine, durant la semaine 3 jours où wc hs le matin, on a eu aussi des drôles de réflexions de certains guides d'excursion..., et pas de chance, un moteur de la navette en pleine mer qui lâche. Le conducteur Philippin, bravo à lui nous a amené à quai avec un seul moteur. Nous étions au pont 3, cabine avec balcon au départ 319, mais en fin compte on nous met au 317. On a pas eu d'explications, on sait juste qu'ils ont mis un guide des excursions à la cabine qui nous était attribué au départ... Invités d'honneurs : Docteur Simes avec sa femme ou son amie, et un autre couple. Ponant a sorti le tapis rouge😄. Ils ont fait trois conférences, des excursions et semblent n'avoir eu aucun problème de wc 😏. On ne connaissait pas Ponant, et bien pour nous on s'est trompé de croisière. Ils auraient du expliquer à la réservation qu'il y avait beaucoup de randonnées... Même un couple belge, ralaient un peu car ils n'avaient que leurs baskets (ce qui est suffisant selon les guides) mais ils auraient préféré leurs chaussures de randonnée. Les visites guidée étaient très bien surtout à Calvi. Il y avait du canoé aussi mais on nous a dit qu'il fallait des choix.. On a pas pu en faire car le lundi complet, le mardi uniquement réservé aux familles, le mercredi on pouvait pas car visite guidée (notre choix) à Calvi, le jeudi il n'y en avait pas... et le vendredi visite guidée d'un jardin (notre choix aussi). Il pouvait y en avoir le vendredi après-midi, et bien non. Enfin bref, on a pu sortir car Costa pour le moment est en croix, mais on ne devrait pas y revenir. Cependant, pour les randonneurs c'est une superbe croisière. Mais attention en Corse et dans le Sud de la France le soleil tape fort, même si vous partez à 08h00. Certains ont souffert de la chaleur. C'était une croisière avec beaucoup de croisiéristes très aisés, certains sympathiques, d'autres peu respectueux du personnel....(quelle honte quand même). Le commandant de bord aimable, mais qui va souvent discuter avec les mêmes personnes. A part un bonjour, nous n'avons eu aucune discussion avec lui. Pourtant avec 60 croisiéristes à bord sur 180 je crois, il a le temps..... On le voyait tous les jours au restaurant, bars etc.. c'est pas lui qui était à la barre du bateau !!! Donc, ben bien pour la sortie mais des déceptions, parfois grandes.

Après avoir fait y'a deux ans (snifff ça manque) un beau voyage sur la cote EST (New York, Niagara, Washington, Miami) avec ma maman, nous envisageons pour Juillet 2021 (si Covid le permet 😎) de faire la cote OUEST (Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco...).

On aurait plusieurs questions 😉😉 : - La première, la plus importante, c'est la voiture, pour se déplacer de parc à parc, de lieu à lieu et être autonome dans nos déplacement, on souhaiterait louer une voiture accessible, mais on sait vraiment pas trop vers quelle société se rapprocher, qui a déjà fait appel à un tel service ? Peut-on rendre la voiture ailleurs que du point de départ (exemple début San Francisco, dépôt Las Vegas) ? J'ai déjà contacté "MobilityWorks" mais pas de réponse depuis 5 jours. - Ma maman possède un permis de conduire français, cela est suffisant ? - Le climat durant cette période est bon (j'ai horreur du froid 😛) ? - Quels sont les incontournables, choses inutile selon vous ? - Par rapport à l'avion, vous avez une astuce 😏, pour voyager en business avec un billet éco (impossible de faire un si long trajet assis en éco pour mon dos 😕) ?

Mon amie et moi avons pour projet de faire la côte atlantique de l'Argentine du Nord au Sud. Nous prévoyons ce voyage pour janvier/février 2021.

Notre but est de faire un itinéraire "only beach", de passer de plage en plages, mais pas n'importe lesquelles. Nous aimerions découvrir des plages "tranquilles", mais de qualité. Les plages dans les villes ne nous intéressent pas trop car on pense qu'elles sont surement trop bondées.

Avez-vous des idées de plages ? en connaissez-vous qui répondraient à nos critère ?

Croisieurope vient d'annoncer que la Belle des Oceans (ex Silver Discoverer) va démarrer fin aout des croisières entre Nice et la Corse. C'est un bateau de petite taille (64 cabines) très sympathique (voir mon compte rendu https://voyageforum.com/v.f?post=9827073 ) qui est actuellement en arrêt à Trogir en Croatie (d'où sont originaires une bonne partie des navigants) et devait gagner le Canada. Croisieurope fait des efforts pour ce redémarrage : acompte 15 jours avant le départ, annulation gratuite jusqu'à 15 jours du départ.

J'ai pour projet d'aller a Turin en vélo en partant d'Avignon en Avril, de la je pense aller sur Gap ou Embrun et monter jusqu'à Briançon, mais pour traverser les Alpes j'ai aucune idée des itinéraires conseillés, je suis assez limité dans le temps ( 6 jours ) donc je ne voudrai pas m'attarder, le plus rapide sera le mieux.
