Par exemple si je prend des travellers chèques en USD, à QUITO, la banque me donnera en échanges des USD ou bien la monnaie locale ?

Bonjour à tous !!! Je suis nouvelle ici et aprés 3 ans d'activité dans le milieu bancaire j'ai envie de changer d'air (ben vi travailler dans un bureau avec des clients pas tjs sympas ça use !!! 🙂) . Mon souhait serait de partir dans un pays étranger (Australie, pays asiatiques, Hawaii) afin de travailler et de découvrir de nouvelles cultures (notamment celle du surf car je suis passionné par ce sport (je vais faire mon premier stage de surf cet été) L'idéal serait que je bosse dans un surfshop mais je me contenterais de ce qu'on me propose! Alors tout conseil ou tte aventure vécue sera la bienvenue !!!

Au Sénégal et en Afrique de l'Ouest en général quel type de cartes bancaire sont le plus acceptées, ''Plus'' ou ''Cirrus''?? J'aimerais également savoir si c'est mieux partir avec des chèques de voyage (en Euro?) ou s'arranger avec des carte bancaire et cartes de crédit. Je part en septembre pour Sénégal, Mauritanie, Mali et peut-etre plus...pendant plusieurs mois (environ 6 mois)...

I’m planning a trip to Georgia this summer and I’ve been comparing some airlines. I’m not particularly set on flying with Pegasus (though it’s convenient with direct flights from Lyon to Tbilisi), but right off the bat, Pegasus states this:

As of January 1, 2026, all foreign nationals traveling to Georgia for tourism purposes will be required to present valid travel health insurance. Guests who fail to provide the relevant health insurance will not be accepted on our flights to Georgia. Sincerely, Pegasus Airlines

In other words, if you don’t show proof of travel health insurance, you’ll be denied boarding. Personally, my credit card insurance has always been enough for me, and I’d rather not take out extra coverage... Have any of you run into this issue before? If not, what do you think? Why is Pegasus asking for this proof? Other airlines don’t mention it at all.

Eight months after our vacation in Croatia, Europcar took 1,611.25 € from us... yes, you read that right—1,611.25 €!! At first, we thought it was a credit card scam, but after a little investigation and the documents sent by the rental company (which had the wrong email address), it turned out the city of Dubrovnik had hit us with this huge fine. Following the GPS on June 9, 2025, we were simply heading to our accommodation with parking on Zagrebačka Street. This one-way, busy street has been off-limits to vehicles without a pass issued by local authorities since June 2, 2025. There’s a checkpoint at the entrance with license plate scanning, but the signs announcing the zone are in Croatian! Our landlord didn’t warn us and hadn’t registered our plate with the authorities, as recommended on the city’s website. The result? A prohibitive fine for both the vehicle and the driver. On top of that, the rules say you only have 8 days to appeal... super convenient when you’re on a road trip abroad and no one flags the issue when you return the car a few days later. This is a real blow for us, but more importantly, it’s a massive tourist scam set up by the city of Dubrovnik. 🙁

Gosuslugi / Госуслуги is the Russian administrative portal. EBS / ЕБС is the unified biometric system.

Since 2025, foreigners (residents or not) must have a biometric profile in addition to a Gosuslugi profile to obtain SIM cards and open a bank account.

Administrative services are mostly centralized in MFCs, МФЦ (Multi-Functional Center), nicknamed "My Documents" Мои документы.

A non-resident foreigner can register with the pension fund, which provides a social security number, SNILS / СНИЛС. To do this, you must present your passport and a notarized translation at an MFC. The SNILS can be issued on the spot or within a maximum of five days. If not issued immediately, you receive a receipt, and the deadline is communicated by the administrative agent. You return to the MFC after the deadline to collect the certificate with the SNILS.

Once the SNILS is obtained, you revisit an MFC counter to register on the Gosuslugi portal. You must present your passport and notarized translation again, along with a phone number and email. The Gosuslugi portal authenticates users with three pieces of data: SNILS, email or phone number, and password. The agent creates the profile and completes the initial email and SMS confirmations on your phone.

After the Gosuslugi profile is active, you register on the biometric portal. If last year’s law centralization measures are fully implemented, you can do this at any MFC; otherwise, you go to a SBERBANK (or VTB) branch. Again, as always for foreigners, you must present your passport with its translation and show your open Gosuslugi profile on your phone. The employee records your voice (reading a series of numbers) and takes a photo of your face.

After that, you can go to a telecom agency to buy a SIM card. The staff will take your passport details with the translation and your Gosuslugi profile info. Then, they’ll take a photo with their webcam, which is verified by the online EBS biometric portal. However, procedures may vary depending on the provider (Megafon, MTS, Beeline), and some employees may not be familiar with the process.

Potential delays can be caused by network maintenance or slowdowns due to peaks in administrative activity.

I’ll illustrate this process as I experienced it in February and April 2025 in the next post. Just need to gather the photos I took on the spot.

Hello, We just spent nearly 3 weeks in Costa Rica and had rented a car from ADOBE RENT-A-CAR. For the occasion, I had provided a document from my bank confirming that my VISA Premier card (gold card) covered—by far—the additional CDW insurance that this rental company strongly recommends. On-site, when it came time to pay the mandatory third-party insurance, my card was declined (luckily, we had another basic debit card that worked without any issues). The reason given by the rental company: my card was invalid or I had a banking problem. The same result and comments occurred at a second ADOBE agency. After contacting my bank and their customer service, they confirmed there was no issue! What’s more, throughout the trip, we used this same card to pay for various purchases (gas, restaurants, attractions, etc.) without any problems... After expressing my dissatisfaction to this rental company on Trustpilot (you can check the site), ADOBE refused to address the issue but admitted that this mandatory insurance is required... In reality, it’s clear that this rental company refuses this card so that tourists will purchase their additional insurance. The travel agency we booked through has requested a meeting with ADOBE for clarification. I’m waiting for their conclusions. Additionally, I noticed on certain sites like tripadvisor.ca or itinego.com/fr/costarica/guide/43/location-voiture-suv-4x4 that this card is no longer accepted...

So, BE CAREFUL: Before leaving, make sure to check with the rental company you’re using to confirm that your card is accepted Always have another bank card as a backup

1) In the Faroe Islands, you pay in Danish kroner—that’s clear—and mostly by card. But there are also Faroese kronur, and I’d love to bring some back. Are they available at ATMs? There don’t seem to be any real exchange bureaus in the capital.

2) The Faroe Islands aren’t part of the EU roaming agreement. Local SIM cards are supposedly available everywhere, but does anyone have an idea of prices or an operator to recommend?

Hi there, - Rented a Budget car online, pick-up and drop-off at the airport: 11 days for 540 €, 1,400 km driven, gas at 0.85 €/litre. Driving was very easy in the country. - Two weeks was enough to see the highlights of Taiwan, especially with a car. - Withdrawing cash with a Revolut or Wise card: no bank fees at Cathay Bank ATMs. They’re yellow and green, often found in Family Mart stores. - Hikes: we did a few, the landscapes were interesting, but the trails were often too artificial for our taste (concrete, slabs, endless stairs, etc.). - Accommodation: averaged 42 €/night, booked in the afternoon for the same evening with no issues. Often stayed in B&Bs run by locals in remote areas—sometimes hard to find and with little English spoken, but no problem with a car. - Food: Chinese cuisine everywhere was excellent. - Weather in December: 8 great days, 5 average, 1 bad. Temperatures were pleasant, a bit chilly at higher altitudes. - Chungwa SIM card: 15 days for 20 €. - Most comprehensive website: taiwanobsessed.com. - We loved the hikes through the tea plantations in the Alishan region, Kenting Park, and the incredible Chung Tai Chan Monastery (tour with an English-speaking nun). en Novembre dernier ( 2019 ) je réserve 2 billets d'avion pour Birmingham. Tout se passe bien. Je procède simplement au paiement de mes billets d'avion, sans prendre d'assurance et refusant toutes offres commerciales. En me connectant sur mon compte bancaire aujourd'hui ( 14/05/2020) je suis très surprise de voir que Opodo me débite 54,99€ pour un compte Prime dont je n'ai JAMAIS vu la couleur ni même entendu parler !! en faisant des recherches ( très très rapide ) je m'aperçois que je ne suis ni la première ni la dernière à être victime de ces voleurs ! Bien évidemment, il est impossible de les joindre et compte tenu de la situation seuls les appels concernant le Covid-19 sont acceptés. Ma question : avez-vous déjà été victime de cette société ? Avez-vous réussi à obtenir un remboursement ?

Je suis preneuse de toute aide, car je ne compte pas laisser passer cette fraude.

J’ai réservé une croisière chez MSC Croisières directement sur le site Web avec paiement en ligne par carte bancaire, il y a environ 8 mois.

Cette croisière devait se dérouler au mois d’Avril 2020.

Suite à la situation sanitaire actuelle, au mois de Mars 2020 (un peu plus d’un mois avant), j’ai demandé l’annulation de cette croisière. Des frais de 25% ont été appliqués et j’ai reçu ma facture d’annulation.

J’avais réservé des excursions, des forfaits boissons, ... et ils ont été remboursés environ sous 48 heures après mon annulation.

Cependant, ma croisière n’a pas encore été remboursée. J’ai relancé le service Compta de MSC Croisières plusieurs fois et on me dit que c’est normal que cela prend du temps mais ils ne savent pas quand le remboursement sera effectué mais par contre on me dit qu’il est bien validé.

Je souhaiterais savoir si d’autres personnes sont dans le même cas, s’il vous plait ?

Combien de temps faut-il pour obtenir ce fameux remboursement, cela va faire un mois environ, est-ce un délai raisonnable, je vous prie ?
