we’re traveling as a couple to Guatemala from Feb 8 to 22. We’ve realized that given the distances, it feels a bit short. So, we’ve decided to limit ourselves to:

- Antigua: 3 nights (from Feb 8 to 11), including the arrival day - Lake Atitlán: from Feb 11 to 14 – 3 nights in San Juan La Laguna, including the morning trip from Antigua to Lake Atitlán - Chichicastenango: from Feb 14 to 15 – 1 night to attend the Sunday market and visit the cemetery

We have 7 days left that we’re not sure how to organize to cover: Flores – Tikal – El Remate, then head back to Guatemala City for our flight on Feb 22. Actually, I have a few questions: Do you think the time in Antigua and at the lake is enough? We might do the Pacaya Volcano, which is accessible for beginners, and that’s it. Should we spend a bit more time at these two spots: Antigua and the lake? If so, we’d have to skip the Chichicastenango market. We’re also thinking of leaving Chichicastenango to head to Flores, then staying overnight in El Remate. Does that seem doable in one day? We’ve noted that the trips are long, and since we don’t want to rush, we’ve reduced the number of accommodations. Even though we know we won’t see everything, we don’t want to miss the must-sees. We’re also wondering if we’ve planned the route in the right direction, or if we should head straight to Tikal when we arrive. Anyway, I know this is long, but we’re a bit lost. Hi there, We’re planning a solid six-week trip (July/August) to Sulawesi with our two kids, aged 5 and 7. I’ve been browsing various forums and have a lot of questions:

Can we "improvise"? We love traveling without planning every step, going with the flow based on fatigue, encounters, and discoveries. So, can we book NO accommodations in advance (except maybe our arrival in Makassar)? On the Togian Islands—is that possible? Same question—can we "improvise" local transport like buses, taxis, or scooter rentals, and book flight tickets (e.g., Makassar-Luwuk) or ferry tickets just a few days ahead? Is it safe enough to travel by scooter for day trips with the kids? Do they generally have child-sized helmets available? We’re struggling to map out an itinerary. Our priorities are hiking (trekking) in the Mamasa Valley and Toraja region, and seeing at least one volcano. Then, of course, we’d love to enjoy the water—easy snorkeling. The Togian Islands look dreamy, but are they the best for "easy" snorkeling (from the beach) with young kids? The journey there is long, too. The Banggai Islands look amazing—could they be a good alternative to the Togian Islands (where finding accommodation might be trickier)? Any feedback?

Other questions: My oldest is crazy about crystals and geology. Has anyone explored the karst region north of Makassar? I also just learned there’s a volcano in the Togian Islands—Una Una (Colo Volcano). Any feedback on that?

Drive to Antigua (1-hour shuttle) / Afternoon: Stroll around Antigua / Night: Antigua Day 2: Explore Antigua / Night: Antigua Day 3: Visit the area around Antigua OR hike a volcano (Acatenango?) / Night: Antigua Day 4: Drive to Chichicastenango for the big market (how many hours?) / Afternoon: Iximche ruins? Or the hanging bridges at Atitlán Reserve? Or spend the day in Chichicastenango / Night: Panajachel Day 5: A day by boat visiting villages around the lake and checking out local crafts (which villages to pick?), Night: Panajachel Day 6: Drive to Flores with 1 stop? Should we go to Semuc Champey? (how many hours?), Night: ?? Day 7: Drive to Flores (how many hours?), Night: Flores Day 8: Yaxha (1.5-hour drive each way with a driver), Night: Flores Day 9: Day trip to Tikal, Night: Flores Day 10:: Flight from Flores to Guatemala City, then departure at 4:30 PM

About hiking a volcano, I’ve read mixed reviews. Some say it’s easy, others say it’s tough. Is there a kid-friendly hike where we could see lava from a volcano? Is it only visible at night? Do we *have* to sleep at the top and come down the next day? I’ve heard of people doing it with 2-year-olds by carrying them, and others using horses—but I guess the horses don’t go all the way up? Seeing a real volcano would be amazing! I think it’d be a memorable experience for the kids. It’d be so cool to say, "We did that as a family!" But maybe it’s way too hard and a bad idea...

I’m struggling to find reliable info on travel times: - How long is the drive from Antigua to Chichicastenango, please? I’ve read shuttles leave at 7 AM and arrive at the market by 8:30 AM, but I’ve also seen people say it’s a 4-hour trip 😕. Are the times on Google Maps reliable?

A blog mentioned visiting Chichicastenango’s market in the morning and Iximché in the afternoon. That seems like a lot of driving, especially after leaving Antigua in the morning. What should we do in the afternoon instead?

Days 6 and 7: The trip from Panajachel to Flores. Any advice on taking an overnight bus? Should we go during the day with a stop at Semuc Champey? Or fly and spend the extra day somewhere else?

Day 8: Is a full day at Yaxha too much?

Regarding homestays, especially places like ex Casa Luciano or Cha de Feijão at Dona Antona’s—is it possible to book ahead? I can’t find any contact details. If not, what happens if there’s no availability? Do we pay in euros or escudos? Also, is it possible to get meals and a packed lunch for the next day? We’re planning a trip to Central America and South America, but we’re still unsure about the destination. It’s for a trip in July 2025, so weather is definitely a factor. For Ecuador, the weather seems favorable, but my wife knows an Ecuadorian woman who told her that the security situation has really deteriorated, especially on the west side (beaches, etc.).

Has anyone traveled to Ecuador recently (in 2025) and could share their experience? (security situation, recommended itineraries)

In terms of things to see (typical villages, landscapes), weather, and prices, Ecuador seems more appealing to us than Costa Rica or Panama, which we’re also considering.

Hi, I’m traveling with my 13-year-old son in June and July 2025 for 6 weeks—2 weeks in Flores and 4 in Sulawesi. I don’t want a super "roots" trip because long transport times eat up too much time, so I’d prefer to use only private or shared drivers whenever possible since I’ve read that public transport really slows you down. That said, I don’t want to hire the same driver for the whole trip because I think it’d be way over budget.

My first question is about transport times and approximate costs. I’d like to double-check the times I’ve seen because it’s not clear to me whether they’re for private vehicles or public buses: - Labuan Bajo – Denge (Wae Rebo): 5–6 hours ???? - Denge – Ruteng: 3 hours ???? - Ruteng – Bajawa: 4 hours ???? - Bajawa – Moni (Kelimutu Volcano): 3.5 hours ???? - Moni – Koka Beach: 1.5 hours ???? - Maumere – Koka Beach: 2 hours ????

My second question is about the Maumere–Makassar ferry. It’s impossible to find a clear answer—PELNI’s website shows only about 2 ferries per month, but Rome2Rio mentions a daily departure (with a return the next day, like the Labuan Bajo–Makassar route, I assume). I’d really like to avoid flying since it’s so expensive on this route.

My third question: I’ve read that flight tickets are more expensive when bought from France than from Indonesia. Has anyone else heard this?

Then we plan to go to Bukit Lawang, Berastagi, and Lake Toba before finishing up on Pulau Weh. Yeah, I know three weeks is short, but we like taking our time now that we’re in our fifties 😄. Hi everyone, I’m planning to spend 15 days on the beaches of the Nicoya Peninsula but I’m having trouble picturing the villages and the vibe. Since I don’t want to rent a car and would rather base myself somewhere and get around by bus, I think I’ll need to stay a bit in the center of a village. I could also move around—spend a week in two different villages. I don’t surf but I’m not opposed to trying it, and otherwise, I’m really into yoga and horses.

Any other must-sees in Costa Rica? I’m thinking of visiting a volcano and a national park; I’ll be there for a total of 3 weeks.

Hi everyone! We’re spending a month in the Philippines from mid-December to mid-January. We’ll be taking a flight from Cebu to Boracay for some kitesurfing. After that, we were thinking of heading back to Cebu Island via public transport or taxi, crossing Panay and Negros, and then going to Moalboal, Bantayan, and Malapascua. Do you think it’s worth crossing Panay and Negros? We’ve heard there were floods on Negros, and Google Maps shows that the volcano on Negros is erupting, so I don’t think hiking it is an option. Je pars au Costa Rica du 17/10 au 01/11/2020 avec mon compagnon. Nous souhaitons louer un 4x4 pour parcourir le pays. En restant 12 jours sur place, nous sommes bien conscients de ne pas pouvoir tout voir, mais nous voulons quand même découvrir au maximum ce pays. J'ai préparé un itinéraire mais souhaiterais savoir s'il est réalisable et pas trop ambitieux, notamment en temps de trajet. J'ai compris qu'ils pouvaient être beaucoup plus long que prévu. Qu'en pensez-vous ? Nous aurions aimé visiter le volcan Poas et La paz waterfall gardens mais faute temps j'ai enlever cette étape, d'autant plus que d'après mes recherches, le volcan peut être fermé selon la météo et son activité volcanique. J'ai beaucoup suivi ce forum et ses membres formidables, merci beaucoup à vous pour tous vos retours d'expériences et propositions, c'est grâce à vous que j'ai visité beaucoup de lieux en Indonésie. Je suis un féru d'Indonésie depuis 2012 je souhaite organiser un trip de 3 semaines moyennement rythmé en transports avec mon meilleur pote.

J'ai déjà visité West Java (Jakarta, Bogor, Bandung, Kawah Putih et campagnes environnantes ) - Central Java (Yogja, Temples Hindous), Bali et ses Nusa, Lombok et ses Gili, Komodo, West Timur, Sumatra (Padang, Medan, Banda Aceh, Pulau Weh) et les Togean (Sulawesi). Il faudrait donc exclure ces endroits.

Je suis preneur de tout itinéraire sympa (en dehors de ce que j'ai déjà fait) voici notre style de voyage :

Bon rythme mais pas trop effrené non plus, l'avion est toujours privilégié. Pour le confort moyen +, faut que ce soit propre c'est tout. Diving Snorkeling, 1 Jungle Trek , lieux culturels (s'ils existent), 1 ou 2 villes sympa max, 1 volcan à faire

Voici ma proposition de parcours je reste à votre écoute pour toute remarques :

Semaine 1 :

Arrivée Manado ( 2 jours de repos et visite ville) après c'est le flou conseillez-vous Tangkoko pour un beau trek en jungle et voir les primates ? Par rapport aux îles on veut éviter Bunaken, que recommandez-vous entre Bangka, Talisei et Lembeh pour seulement 2/3 jours ? (Diving, Plages de qualité, un peu de vie ?)

Semaine 2 :

Hésitation entre une semaine dans la région d'Ambon et 1 semaine dans la région de Ternate. Pour ceux qui l'ont fait que recommandez-vous de faire en 1 semaine dans l'un de ces coins ?

Semaine 3 :

Puis il nous restera 3 jours pour se reposer, là on voudrait un seul coin (une seule plage) pas loin d'un aéroport pour rentrer sur Jakarta puis Paris (généralement c'est Canggu Bali) que me conseilleriez-vous pour changer ? Sumbawa ?

Bonjour à tous ceux qui souhaitent se rendre dans ce beau pays, Nous sommes partis 3 semaines et nous aurions souhaité 1 semaine de plus. Notre périple fut le suivant : Managua, Granada et la laguna Apoyo, 2 jours Ometepe, 3 jours Big Corn Island, 4 jours Laguna perlas, 2 jours cayos de perlas, 3 jours sur une île déserte Leon, 2 jours Masayas 1 jour et Managua, 2 jours. Quelques remarques personnelles (je le précise) : Managua n'a aucun intérêt touristique La côte caribéenne est à ne pas manquer, un paradis A Leon faire l'excursion qui permet de voir le volcan (el hoyo je crois), vue superbe. La nourriture à l'exception des langoustes est de moyenne qualité Les gens sont vraiment aimables Les voitures sont inutiles, nous avons fait l'essentiel en bus et pris l'avion à 2 reprises (pas très cher) Très peu de touristes où nous sommes allés, La vie sur place est plutôt bon marché. Attention au retour si vous ramenez de beaux coquillages (vendus en boutique) des douaniers zélés nous ont ennuyé à l'arrivée, pour finalement se rendre compte que c'était permis...Si vous avez des questions, bien que le confinement soit plutôt réducteur en terme de voyage.

Connaissez-vous un endroit, en Amérique Centrale de préférence, ou secondairement en Amérique du Sud, ou en dernier lieu dans le Monde, où il y a, dans un périmètre d'activité raisonnable :

- des bons spots de surf - des bons spots pour la plongée en apnée - des bons sports pour l'escalade, le must, du "deep water solo" pour les connaisseurs (sinon cherchez sur google, c'est une forme de grimpe ou l'on tombe dans l'eau) - des bons spots pour le kayak en eau vive - des bons spots nature pour la randonnée (montagne, volcan, forêt, rivières...)

Et bien sûr, Inévitablement, une vie locale pas chère !

Vous l'avez comprit, je fais appel à votre aide, votre expérience, pour répondre le plus justement à ma question, plutôt difficile !

Bien sûr, il est difficile d'avoir un endroit qui regroupe tout ces critères parfaitement, mais le but est de trouver quelque chose qui s'en rapproche le plus possible ! LE MEILLEUR COMPROMIS quoi !

=> Le surf, la plongée et l'escalade étant indispensables pour pouvoir présenter un endroit !

Je prépare un voyage à Yellowstone pour septembre. je suis passionnée par les volcans et aimerais loger à l'intérieur du Parc au moins pour quelques nuits, de préférence au plus près des sites actifs. J'ai besoin de conseils ! je pense rester une semaine en tout (je logerai le reste du temps à West Yellostone pour limiter les frais), j'aurai donc le temps de faire quelques randonnées, j'ai là aussi besoin de conseils. Pouvez-vous nous dire si cela vous semble envisageable ? Surtout au niveau des transports, nous avons lus pas mal de discussion sur les difficultés des transports en Indonésie. Après, nous ne programmons pas les hôtels, transports en avance pour se laisser une marge de liberté dans notre parcours une fois sur place. Bonjour, Notre voyage se concrétise et nous avons une idée un peu plus précise de notre itinéraire, pouvez vous nous donner votre avis :

Nous avions fait une pré selection : au nord Banaue, Batad et Sagada. Puis l'ile de Mindoro pour que mon amie puisse passer son PADI. Bohol pour les Chocolate Hills. Moalboal pour le snorkling. Padre Burgos pour la plongée. Palawan avec Sabang, Port Barton, les Bacuits et l'ile de Coron. L'ile d'Apo, Siquijor et Malapascua nous faisait envie aussi et dernièrement Camiguin...

Ceci est évidement trop pour 21jours... mais dur dur de sélectionner! Nous essayons de faire des coupes franches dans l'itinéraire pour éviter de perdre trop de temps dans les trajets, nous voulons profiter...

Du coup voici ce que nous pensons faire : - Nous arrivons le 8 mars à Manille, nous pensons prendre un vol interne pour Tagbilaran sur Bohol. Ici mon amie devrait passer son PADI (nous abandonnons donc l'idée de le passer a Mindoro ou à Padre Burgos, est ce une bonne idée? ) et visite des Chocolate Hills, Tarsiers, Bambou Bridge... - Puis aller sur Camiguin pour plonger, voir des chutes, rondo sur un volcan... - Retour sur Bohol pour rejoindre Cebu : Moalboal et Malapascua. - Puis les Palawan et Coron - Enfin le nord avec les rizières de Banaue, Batad et Sagada avant de repartir de Manille.

Qu'en pensez vous? Est ce deja trop? Avez vous des suggestions? Des lieux à éviter dans cet itinéraire? On fait donc une croix sur Mindoro, l'ile d'Apo et Siquijor... Ou vaudrait il mieux faire une croix sur autre chose à leur depend?

Je souhaite partir en Indonésie en Juillet 2020. J'ai déjà passé 15 jours à Bali en 2016.

J'aimerais avoir une idée du parcours à faire sur l’île de Java.

A Bali j'ai aimé le nord de Ubud (Tegalaland) mais pas du tout le sud. Ubud c'est limite "overbooké" mais ça passe encore... Cette fois-ci ce sera le Nord de Bali.

Concernant Lombok je ne connais pas du tout...

A vrai dire la grande interrogation pour le moment c'est JAVA... J'ai juste été voir le Kawa Ijen de nuit en 2016 mais sinon aucune connaissance de l’île..

Si vous avez un conseil de parcours sympa sur Java, je prends...
