I'm planning a trip to Brazil as winter approaches, around late October to early November 2026. I don’t have exact dates since I recently retired, so I can stay until mid-December if needed. I’m looking for a travel companion (male or female) for this journey—think relaxed mode, pousadas with locals, parks, seaside, culture, and music.

I’ve already explored the north, like Recife and Fortaleza. What I found most challenging was communicating with locals since I don’t speak Portuguese, and not everyone speaks English. I’m trying to learn now, but the accent isn’t easy!!!! This country is huge, and I’d love to discover the south. The idea is to arrive in São Paulo (without staying long—I’m not a big fan of large cities) and take a flight to Iguazu, then a bus to Paraty and Ilha Grande to enjoy the spots. After that, a bit of Rio is unavoidable, but I’d like to explore off-the-beaten-path places with a guide. To finish, Salvador de Bahia, with a focus on Morro de São Paulo and Boipeba. Maybe a return via Salvador—TAP offers that route. Nothing’s set in stone; we can discuss everything together.

I’ve been looking for a destination for a 2-week trip early next spring, and Cape Verde has been growing on me. (The flight isn’t too long, the temperatures are more than pleasant, and it’s an unknown country for me.)

The thing is, Cape Verde is pretty complicated when it comes to inter-island transfers, and I don’t want to spend my time in airports or on ferries—especially since those transfers aren’t exactly known for their reliability...

So, I’d like to limit internal flights to just 2, meaning the island I arrive on plus one other.

I’ve ruled out the all-inclusive islands: Sal and Boa Vista.

I’m torn between combining Santo Antão + São Vicente or Fogo + Santiago.

The goal of the trip is to see beautiful landscapes, go on day hikes (nothing multi-day), swim a little—though I prefer quiet spots—and enjoy 1 or 2 days in a city, but not much more than that!

Hi everyone, After a year where I’ve worked way too much and with a house under renovation, it’s become essential to take a breather. My contract ends on 01/30, and I’ll try to find a new client for early March, so overall, let’s go somewhere in February! I thought Réunion with the full trek around the Mafate cirque for reconnecting with Nature would be perfect, but since it’s cyclone season, it wasn’t such a great idea. Then came the idea that Southeast Asia could fulfill the peace-and-beach vibe, especially Cambodia with its cultural past, but the flight ticket price and a chat with a friend made me change my mind—and boom, Cape Verde popped up, with Santo Antão for hiking and São Vicente for culture and the beach. So I bought a ticket a week ago, and oh, what a coincidence—it’s during Carnival! Except now, I don’t know if it’s reality or just exhaustion talking, but I feel like I’m making a mess of things. I’ve traveled a lot without even booking the first night, but this time, I pre-booked 2 nights in Mindelo (though one of them ended up canceling itself). But the main issue is that I arrive on Monday, 02/09 at 6 PM and leave on Sunday, 02/22 at 11 AM, and there’s a little hiccup in the logical organization—actually, several hiccups—since I don’t really have any organization right now, and that’s where I need help Because Carnival is in full swing from 02/15 to 02/17, right in the middle of my trip, so the logic of my visit to Santo Antão isn’t clicking for me. Plus, I just checked, and there’s zero accommodation available in Mindelo from 02/15 to 02/18 😕 So I don’t know: should I skip Carnival, should I forget about planning and just wing it once I’m there, should I stay on São Vicente after Carnival (because I read Montaganrd’s trip report, and he made São Vicente sound like a rock !), or should I keep in mind the option of heading to Santiago afterward and buying a return flight to Paris from Praia? We’re making a family dream come true: spending a month in Brazil from July 19 to August 20. We’ll land in Rio and spend 6 days there (we’ve finalized a home exchange for a lovely apartment in the Copacabana neighborhood). After that, we’re heading to Minas Gerais by rental car for 11 days (Tiradentes, Ouro Preto, and the Inhotim Institute), then the Costa Verde, and finally 2 days in São Paulo.

We’ll be traveling with our three kids, ages 17, 14, and 9, who are real travelers and good hikers. Goes hand in hand, right? 😄

For now, we’ve planned to visit Ilha Grande (4 days) and then Paraty and its surroundings (3 days). What do you think? Ilha Grande appealed to us for its hikes and beaches, but couldn’t we do that along Paraty’s coast? I’ve read mixed reviews about Ilha Grande...

I’d love to get your thoughts on the itinerary we’re planning for this summer (August) with our three older teens. We’ve booked our round-trip flight from Lyon to Rio. Originally, we were thinking of heading down to Paraty / Ilha Grande... but after checking, the water temperature seems a bit too cool, so we’d prefer to go to Bahia state for a bit more warmth. And we still haven’t seen everything! Before setting off for new horizons at the end of this year, it’s time for me to share my trip to Cape Verde this summer 2025.

I particularly love these spontaneous trips, and our stay in Cape Verde is one of those because it was only at the beginning of April that we decided on this getaway, which had been catching our eye for a while, given our love for the mountains.

As always—well, when it’s open—I turned to VF, and I want to immediately thank Marie, aka ptitortue, who helped me a lot in planning this trip through her travel journals and our exchanges!

Because Cape Verde is both small and vast! We decided not to rush from one airport to another, to enjoy the places and the people, but also to relax, since the work backlog from being stuck in May (see my previous travel journal 😅) had to be caught up on in June.

So, 4 islands will be our winners from 06/28 to 07/19:

Santiago first for logistical reasons, as round-trip flights from the capital Praia were the cheapest (650 €/person from Lyon via Lisbon with TAP, still!)

São Vicente, because it’s the gateway to the next one but ultimately more than that...

Santo Antão, pretty much the main goal of the trip since Marie (and the photos) had really sold it to me.

And finally, Sal Island, for some rest—a non-negotiable condition for my other half—and we’ll see that I should’ve listened to Marie...

That said, what a chatterbox I am—buckle up, flight attendants at the doors, off we go on new beautiful escapes! (Thanks to Sophie for the easy loan)

Last note for my eager fan club 😏: yes, there will be alcohol—how could there not be in the land of grogue!

hi there I’m thinking of heading to northeastern Brazil in January or February—I don’t really have a choice with the dates. Apparently, it rains a lot during that time. Is it really a big issue for traveling? Are these tropical downpours—heavy but brief—or more of a continuous rain? I’m especially curious about the stops in Lençóis, Atins, and Parnaíba. For Lençóis, I know the lagoons are almost empty at this time of year. Hi there, we’ll have 15 days total, which means 13 days of travel on the ground. We’re planning to visit Brazil during the second half of July. I’m not naive enough to think we can see a huge chunk of Brazil in such a short time, so I’m focusing on a specific area to make it relaxed and enjoyable.

We’re flying out of Madrid. I was thinking of spending 3 or 4 days in Rio, 3 days in Iguazu (I initially thought one day would be enough, but I’ve read it’s highly recommended to visit the Argentine side as well), 3 or 4 days on Ilha Grande, and 3 days in Paraty. I’m not entirely sure about Ilha Grande in July, but I’m looking for a place to unwind and enjoy the sea (if the water’s good then).

I’ve noticed a lot of people fly into Madrid and return from São Paulo (or vice versa). What’s the advantage of that? It doesn’t seem problematic (based on Google Maps, though I’m no expert) to navigate from Rio. Is there a more efficient order for visits to minimize travel time?

As you can tell, I’m just starting to plan, but I’ll need to book the international flights soon. I’ll probably have more questions for those of you who are patient enough to help! ;)

Hello, we’re planning a three-week trip to Brazil. What sights and accommodations would you recommend, given we’re a couple with mom in a wheelchair and two older teens, and we’d like to visit: -Iguazu Falls -Rio de Janeiro (Sugarloaf Mountain, Christ the Redeemer, old town... and a beach) -Salvador de Bahia -if possible, another city further north like Recife or Natal We’ll arrive in São Paulo, where we’ll visit the young Brazilian woman we had the chance to host during her high school year in France.

It’s hard to gauge hotel accessibility from France (bathroom photos aren’t very telling and worry us...) Another concern: domestic flights in Brazil.

I asked two agencies to put together a circuit with transfers, hotels, organized visits, and one domestic flight. I don’t speak Spanish or Portuguese. 6 nights in Rio 3 nights on Ilha Grande 3 nights in Paraty Domestic flight to Salvador for 3 nights 3 nights in Morro de São Paulo 1 night in Salvador before flying back to France. For this itinerary, I’m going with Tourlane, but I’m still waiting on the second quote from Comptoir des Voyages. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the itinerary and especially on these agencies—thanks for any feedback! 😊

Day 1: Flight, rental car, stop at São Lourenço in Almancil, and visit to Loulé Day 2: Olhão, walk at Praia do Barril, Tavira, and evening in Faro’s old town (park at São Francisco parking lot) Day 3: Walk on the boardwalks at Quinto do Ludo, Falesia beaches, Carvoeiro Day 4: The boardwalks in Alvor, Praia da Rocha in Portimão, Ferragudo, and the boardwalks around Algar Seco Day 5: Ponta da Piedade in Lagos, walk to Praia de Luz from Praia Camilho Day 6: Burgau, Cape Sagres, Cape St. Vincent, Carrapateira, and Praia da Bordeira Day 7: "Sete Vales Suspensos" hike from Marinha Beach

Our disappointments: - The towns and villages (Tavira and Lagos stand out) - The traffic off the highway - The English, the English, and more English everywhere

J'envisage de partir cet été avec bébé qui aura presque 1 an à ce moment-la. Est-ce une destination bien indiqué pour un bébé ? Vu que c'est notre 1er voyage avec lui, nous qui d'habitude parcourons tout le pays, je pense qu'on va se restreindre bien plus et y aller "pepere". J'ai cru comprendre qu'i y avait de quoi faire sur l'ile principale Sao Miguel, est-ce suffisant pour avoir un bon aperçu sur 2 semaines, ou est-ce qu'il y a vraiment des incontournables a voir sur d'autres iles (qui valent la peine du déplacement/ changement de lieu de villegiature/ de location voiture tout ça )?

Nous aimons les randonnées (mais attention maintenant à l'altitude avec bébé), les plages, les balades diverses, les jolis paysages...

20 février, aéroport de Roissy: RV à 18h au stand de Rivages du Monde, Thomas, notre accompagnateur est là. Dès le départ, on nous attribue un numéro de bus, que nous devrons respecter tout le long du voyage, avec une trentaine de passagers . Il y aura 3 bus à notre arrivée, et il y en aura 2 autres le lendemain. Comme nous le redoutions nos billets sont à des rangs différents, mais nous pourrons nous rapprocher sans problème dans l’avion. Le vol est long, mais nous dormons une bonne partie du voyage, ce qui fait que ça passe assez vite, avec l’escale de Sao Paulo qui coupe un peu la longueur..juste avant l’arrivée, nous franchissons la Cordillère des Andes. C’est impressionnant l’avion survole tout juste les montagnes! A l’arrivée, nous sommes accueillis par notre guide Rémi, qui nous conduit vers notre bus. Déjeuner au restaurant, premiers contacts avec les membres du groupe... qui paraît assez sympathique dans l’ensemble! L’âge moyen est assez élevé, je dirais environ 75 ans, ce qui nous étonne beaucoup puisqu’il s’agit d’une croisière expédition avec sorties en zodiac...il y a même un homme en fauteuil roulant...il marche un peu, mais restera tout le temps sur le bateau sans sortir.. Après le repas, nous traversons Les Halles puis visite panoramique de la ville, avec arrêt devant le Palais de la Moneda. Mais la fatigue se fait sentir, et l’arrivée au très bel hôtel est la bienvenue. Repas sur place et repos immédiat!

Sauriez-vous si l'eau à Madère est-elle potable ou s'il vaut mieux consommer l'eau en bouteille ?

Comment le Carnaval se passe-t-il à Madère ? Certaines rues sont-elles fermées ?

Y a-t-il une saison pour voir les dauphins ? Peut-on voir des baleines à Madère ? Si oui, quelle est la meilleure période ?

Bonjour, Nous souhaiterions partir 1 semaine en Juillet avec une amie et nous hésitons entre les Canaries et les Açores. Objectifs du voyage :

- Se balader au milieu de paysages sauvages et dépaysants (nous apprécions en particulier la verdure, les forêts tropicales). Nous sommes motivées à l'idée de faire de belles randos mais je suis personnellement très peu sportive au quotidien donc il faudrait des sentiers faciles pour commencer...

- Pouvoir faire de belles plongées (sous-marines et/ou snorkeling), accessibles aux débutants (je suis niveau 1 et mon amie souhaiterait s'initier en réalisant un baptême)

- Eventuellement un peu de plage si possible.

Des avis sur ces 2 destinations ? Des personnes ayant fait les 2 et pouvant comparer ? Je sais que les Canaries sont très variées, nous avons déjà effectué quelques recherches et La Palma ou La Gomera nous ont semblé très vertes puis nous avons vu des photos de Sao Miguel aux Açores, et là dilemme, car l'île a l'air magnifique aussi...
