Une réponse à une question qui n'est pas posée : L'obtention d'un visa pour l'Afghanistan est encore un casse-tête. La plupart des ambassades demandent une lettre d'accreditation ou un ordre de mission que les touristes bien sûr n'ont pas. D'après plusieurs témoignages Ankara serait la meilleure place pour l'obtenir ( visa délivré le jour même sans lettre d'accreditation ). Tashkent et Peshawar le délivreraient aussi sans formalité particulière. Je viens d'obtenir le mien de l'ambassade d'Afghanistan à Paris. A défaut de lettre d'accreditation il faut joindre à la demande de visa une lettre de motivation à l'adresse de l'ambassadeur.

Hi everyone, I’ll explain my situation. Unfortunately, I lost my passport, and I only realized it two weeks before my departure for a humanitarian mission in Libya. I’m a nurse, and this mission really means a lot to me. First, I applied for an emergency passport, but it was denied by the Val-d'Oise prefecture on the grounds that a planned humanitarian mission wasn’t considered an urgent reason. So, I submitted a biometric passport application on July 20th. Since then, the tracking has been stuck, and the town hall can’t (or won’t) give me any clear information. Every time I call, I get a different story. The last update I received was that the passport had been produced since July 23rd with a status of "about to be shipped," but nothing since then. I’ve managed to push my departure back to next Tuesday at the latest, but I’m starting to really panic. Have any of you submitted an application around July 20th, especially in Val-d'Oise (95)? How long did you wait between the passport being produced and it being available at the town hall? Is it normal for this step to take this long? This mission means so much to me. I had everything organized, and I’m also supposed to attend a friend’s wedding right after near the border. Thanks so much to those who take the time to respond or share their experience. 😔

Autumn 2025 marks my 11th trip to Japan. I’ve neglected the south for too long, so like last year, it’s my main destination again.

We’ll revisit some familiar spots, but of course, we’ll also try plenty of new things. This trip feels a bit strange—no more of that initial magic, but on the other hand, we’ve really explored some off-the-beaten-path and private locations. The variety of regions, landscapes, and vehicles I’ve photographed is pretty remarkable. In search of vintage trains and threatened lines, I think my future trips will follow the same vibe.

I’m diving into planning a trip I’ve dreamed of for a long time: crossing Africa from North to South solo, with a departure planned for October 2025 for about 8-9 months. I’m leaving from Paris with a starting budget of around 7,000 €, aiming to supplement it with work along the way.

My planned route: Senegal → Gambia → Sierra Leone/Liberia (if logistics work out) → Côte d'Ivoire → Ghana → Togo → Benin → Cameroon → Gabon → Kenya (Masai Mara) → Uganda (Bwindi gorillas) → Rwanda → Tanzania (Kili + Serengeti + Zanzibar) → Mozambique → Malawi → Zambia (Victoria Falls) → Botswana → Namibia → South Africa (Cape Town). Madagascar as a bonus if timing/budget allows from Mozambique.

I’m not a backpacking newbie—I’ve done several trips in Europe and I’m familiar with the lifestyle, hostels, local transport, etc. But Africa is my first big adventure on this continent, and I’ve got some very concrete questions I’d love feedback on from people who’ve been there.

🎭 My big dilemma: flexibility vs. pre-organized work

What matters most to me is NOT rushing through. If I feel good somewhere, I’ll stay longer. If a region doesn’t click, I’ll cut it short. That seems totally incompatible with having pre-booked work or volunteer gigs, yet I need that income to stretch my budget.

I’m torn between two approaches:

Option A: The mixed rhythm: 3-4 weeks of volunteering in a country (free accommodation, full immersion), then 1-2 countries in classic backpacker "vacation" mode, then another mission somewhere, etc. This gives a breathing rhythm and avoids burnout from non-stop volunteering.

Option B: The continuous flow: finding gigs as I go, from the previous country, contacting hosts 2-3 weeks in advance with a flexible date range. Keeping maximum spontaneity but never arriving anywhere without a safety net.

Have you tried either? What actually works on the ground in Africa?

🌍 What I’m really looking for in this trip

Not just the classic tourist spots. I want to see the country as it is—eating at local joints, taking local transport (bush taxis, minibuses, sept-places), staying with locals when possible. The big reserves and safaris are part of the plan (Masai Mara, Serengeti, Okavango), but just as much as hanging out in a residential neighborhood in Dakar, understanding how people really live.

Volunteering or work interests me for that reason too (not just for free lodging, but because it’s the deepest way to dive into a country). Working at a school in Ghana, a lodge in Kenya, a permaculture farm in Mozambique—I see it as an immersion that classic tourism can’t offer.

🎒 My concrete questions

About Workaway and Worldpackers: I’ve read a lot but would love on-the-ground feedback, especially for West and East Africa. Are hosts really flexible with dates for long-term travelers? Do the advertised gigs match reality? Are there alternative platforms you’d recommend for Africa specifically (I’ve heard of Help Exchange, WWOOF Africa, local networks…)?

About "off-platform" jobs: Is it really doable to find informal work on the spot (bars, restaurants, lodges) without prior contacts? In which countries/cities is this most accessible for a French speaker without a local work permit?

About logistics between countries: For those who’ve done the West Coast (Senegal → Ghana → Benin), how did you cross borders? Direct buses or local shared taxis at each border? And for the jump from Central Africa → Kenya, is a flight mandatory, or are there feasible overland routes?

About Madagascar: I’m considering adding it from Mozambique (flight Maputo or Beira → Tana). Those who’ve done it backpacker-style on a tight budget—is 3-4 weeks doable, or is it too short to be worth it?

I’m open to all tips, experiences, warnings, and pleasant surprises. And if you’ve got trusted local contacts (Workaway hosts, associations, community lodges), I’m all ears!

Hi there, I live in Casablanca and my parents, who are 80, will be joining me in Marrakech at the beginning of May for a few days. We’ll be renting a car to get around. Do you have any suggestions for things to see or visit within a 2-3 hour drive max from Marrakech that aren’t too touristy? My parents can walk a bit, but at 80, no climbing Mount Toubkal! Hi everyone,

I was in Delhi for work and decided to leave my suitcase there so I could enjoy the rest of my vacation in Southeast Asia. However, my flight from Bangkok to Delhi, scheduled for tomorrow (Sunday, October 5th), was rescheduled, and I’ll miss my connection to Paris. When I looked at flights, I realized that the Bangkok-Paris flight costs half as much as the new Bangkok-Delhi flight (with a different airline).

So here’s my question (a shot in the dark): Is anyone traveling between Delhi and Paris in the next few days? Would it be possible to pick up my suitcase in Delhi’s hold (I’ll pay the extra fee) and bring it to Paris?

I thought about having it shipped, but I need it fairly quickly, and I don’t trust the delivery times. Plus, the costs are outrageous.

I’m heading to the United States for the first time, flying from Paris to Austin with a layover in Atlanta. I arrive at 8:55 PM and leave again at 10:30 PM. Air France told me I don’t need to collect my checked bags, but I keep reading that I *do* have to pick them up after immigration and customs—and that doing all that in 1 hour 30 minutes is basically impossible. I’m traveling with my son, and our English isn’t great. It’s making me a little anxious because the flight I need to catch is the last one of the day, and if I miss it, I’ll have to wait until the next morning.

Do you think this is doable?

Il semblerait cependant que Turkish airlines maintienne mon vol (aucun mail/message à ce sujet, ils parlent juste de nouvelles mesures sanitaires à bord des avions..) De fait, vous imaginez que l'idée de remboursement est déjà mal engagée.

Bonjour Avec le confinement j'ai pris le temps de faire un gros tri dans mes photos. Beaucoup étaient des photos de plages qui m'ont rappelé de magnifiques souvenirs. Donc je me demandais qu'elles sont les 3 plages qui vous viennent à l'esprit quand vous y pensez et qui vous ont marqué d'une manière ou d'une autre.

Personnellement 3 me viennent à l'esprit car elles étaient calmes, pas aménagées, en pleine nature et quasiment personnes dessus.

1) plage barra velha sur l'île de Marajo au Brésil (en plus j'ai pu louer une petite cabane sur pilotis pendant 1 semaine sur cette plage)

2)Mission beach dans l'état du Queensland en Australie

3) La plage du parc de Cahuita au Costa rica

J'aide des amis à organiser leur circuit en Grèce cet été.

Ils seront en août sur les îles de Milos, Sifnos et Paros.

Ils voyagent à 5 avec leurs enfants et ce ne sera donc pas possible pour eux de louer des scooters. Ils souhaitent surtout se déplacer à pied ou en bus.

Néanmoins, si à certains moments ils se rendent compte qu'ils ne peuvent pas faire certaines choses sans voiture qu'ils auraient aimé voir, ils aimeraient se décider au dernier moment de la voiture.

Est-ce possible de louer une voiture pour une journée la veille pour le lendemain à cette période de l'année ?

Nous sommes une famille avec 4 enfants (9-8-6-3 ans) et nous souhaitons partir une année ou plus travailler dans l'humanitaire, en Tanzanie de préférence.

Nous ne voulons pas partir avec une agence qui propose des séjours humanitaires hors de prix. Je me permets donc de vous solliciter, vous qui connaissez peut-être une association sérieuse ou qui auriez de bons tuyaux à nous donner, c'est très volontiers.

Dans l'idéal nous aimerions partir en Tanzanie, mon mari parlant très bien le swahili pourrait être bénéfique à une association. Mais nous sommes ouverts à étudier toutes autres propositions.

Mon vol depuis La Réunion va atterrir au Terminal A de OR Tambo à Johannesburg le dimanche 9 février à 13h55 (une heure en retard suite à une modification de la compagnie Air Austral).

Je dois ensuite récupérer mes bagages avant de filer vers le Terminal B pour une correspondance prévue à 15h30 vers Port Elizabeth. La fin de l'enregistrement est prévue à 14h50.

Air Austral vient de m'indiquer que cela était possible avec un temps d'attente de maximum 30 minutes pour récupérer mes bagages à l'arrivée à Jo'burg.

Est-ce mission impossible selon vous ?

Dois-je présenter mon passeport entre mon arrivée à Jo'burg avant d'aller m'enregistrer pour Port Elizabeth ?

Bonjour, nous sommes en première année de BTS et nous avons un projet à rechercher. J'avais penser à emmener ma classe (ou du moins les élèves volontaires et pouvant partir) dans un voyage humanitaire visant à aider une association à se développer. Je n'ai pas encore de projets précis, et je ne sais pas où aller mais j'aurai plutôt aimer savoir si en BTS cela était quand même possible et si oui, où pourrions nous aller ?
