Hello, I’m heading to Thailand for two weeks at the end of February with my family. I went there 20 years ago. I’d love your thoughts on a relaxed two-week trip that lets me show my kids the joys of travel while also taking time to unwind (after all, it *is* vacation! :)) I’m planning to spend 2 days in Bangkok, then take the overnight train to Chiang Mai (so my kids can experience that) and stay for 2-3 nights. After that, I’ll fly to Phuket for a few nights, then head to Koh Lanta for a few days before returning to Phuket to make my way back to Bangkok for the last two days before departure. Tons of people travel for two weeks during this time—any recommendations? So far, I only have my round-trip flight ticket to Bangkok. Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone, I’m planning a trip to Thailand. Since we’ll only be there for two and a half weeks, we want to visit the Krabi area and then Chiang Mai. So we won’t take the train—it’s too long in terms of travel time. We’re wondering if it’s more worthwhile to buy the flight tickets on the spot? If so, is the price difference really significant? From what I see on online booking sites, you’re looking at between 35 and 60 € per person for a Krabi/Chiang Mai route.

I’d love to know if any of you have recently eaten on the overnight train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.

We’ve always ordered food on the train, and it was really good (and super convenient). But in 2022, we ended up feeling like total idiots (with our 4-year-old daughter...) when we boarded the train only to find out that this service was no longer available... (It was the first time we’d traveled right after COVID.)

That’s also when we saw once again how kind Thai people are—they all offered to share their food with us, even though we were mortified. In the end, we managed to buy some instant noodles, which was better than nothing. Anyway, that’s the little story behind it.

In the following years, we’ve always brought our own meals.

I’ve read online that meal trays are back in service (could you confirm this, please?), but that the quality is really poor. I’ve also seen multiple reports that, even though you can eat well everywhere in Thailand, the train meal was the worst food travelers had during their trip...

Could you give me a recent opinion on this? We’ll be departing from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Station—do you know if there’s anywhere to buy a meal there before boarding the train?

My friend and I are heading to Thailand for three weeks between December 14th and January 4th.

After a week of relaxation in the south by the beach, we plan to explore northern Thailand to see the mountains and discover the country’s history before wrapping up in Bangkok.

I’m torn about which region to explore. For convenience, we’ll arrive in Chiang Mai, spend a few days in the area, then head to Lampang, followed by Sukhothai, and finally Bangkok.

After Chiang Mai (1 or 2 days—I’m worried the period might be too crowded and we won’t enjoy it much), we’ll have 3 days and could go to: Mae Hong Son (with a potential return flight); Chiang Dao and Fang; or Nan province, though that seems a bit far for just 3 days. We could also spend only one day in Chiang Mai and have 4 days instead.

For these 3 (or 4) days between Chiang Mai and Lampang, we’d love to do some beautiful hikes, preferably on our own, and see stunning landscapes, nature, and small villages.

Among my options, which would you recommend? Or where can we find great hikes that we can do independently and that aren’t overrun by mass tourism? I’ll admit, I’m struggling to find info—there are lots of small national parks, but details are scarce, and even AllTrails doesn’t have much for some of them...

Just to clarify, we’re considering hiring a car with a driver if needed.

Le visa birman peut s'obtenir au Consulate General of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar chercher "Consulate-General of Myanmar" ou "The General Consulate of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar" sur Google Maps adresse complète : Maneenopparat Soi 3, Chang Phueak, Mueang Chiang Mai adresse simplifiée : Maneenopparat Soi 3

Pour s'y rendre à pied, remonter - c'est-à-dire prendre à contresens - l'avenue Manee Nopparat, dépasser KFC et Pizza Hut, puis prendre à droite en direction de l'Icon Park Hotel, et à ce niveau tourner à gauche et marcher jusqu'au consulat

Visa : Application (dépôt) : 9h00 - 12h00 Collection (retrait) : 15h30 - 16h30

Contrairement à Bangkok, pas de formule "visa express" (obtention le jour même ou le lendemain). L'obtention se fait donc sous deux jours ouvrés. Par conséquent, un passeport déposé vendredi matin sera récupéré avec le visa mardi après-midi.

Le papier suivant m'a été remis, listant les pièces à fournir :

(1) : il est possible d'imprimer les réservations à l'Hôtel Icon Park, situé à 150 mètres environ, en leur envoyant les documents en pièces dans un courriel adressé à info@iconparkhotel.com ; les employés sont très agréables et serviables, l'impression est gratuite, n'oubliez pas la boîte à pourboires située sur le comptoir... (2) : face à cette contrainte, j'ai réservé un hôtel au Myanmar sans règlement d'avance et proposant l'annulation gratuite par le biais de Booking, c'est très facile à trouver, et une fois visa en poche ...j'ai annulé ma réservation (3) : j'ai tenté de présenter mon billet d'avion Bangkok-Lyon, mais ça n'a pas fait l'affaire... une réservation de billet de bus (voucher) Mae Sot-Bangkok, non annulable mais obtenue immédiatement via 12Go Asia, a convenu; un aller d'une ville de Thaïlande vers Mae Sot aurait également suffi, selon le préposé qui m'a renseigné.

On vous remet un récépissé avec votre nom et un numéro de dossier, qui permettra le retrait du passeport. Pensez à conserver une copie de votre passeport pour les hôtels, le change, etc.

Donc aucun souci pour l'obtention d'un visa pour le Myanmar à Chiang Mai. Très peu de monde, pratiquement pas d'attente (NB : j'étais présent vendredi à 9h00 pour le dépôt, et le mardi suivant à 15h30 pour le retrait)

Je ne parviens pas à trouver les horaires de bus ou un site sur lequel réserver un billet de bus (bien que j'ai vu qu'il n'était pas nécessaire de réserver, se présenter le matin de bonne heure au Terminal suffisait ...) Je vais envisager d aller en Thaïlande l année prochaine, je souhaite avoir votre avis concernant le train de nuit Chiang Mai – Bangkok. Au niveau confort et durée du trajet c est plutôt comment ? J hésite à prendre cet option mais c est plus économique au niveau des frais de faire se trajet en train de nuit.

Bonjour, J'ai vu sur le site «Trip Advisor» une excursion à Chiang Rai organisée par « Yada travel Chiang Rai » pour 1000 Baths. Visite du Temple Blanc, Black house, et surtout, Long Neck village qui m'intéresse particulièrement. J'aimerais savoir si cette agence est fiable. Habituellement, je passe par Expédia pour mes excursions, mais ce n'est pas offert sur leur site. Y a-t-il d'autres activités intéressantes à Chiang Rai en novembre. Merci.

Je souhaite visiter le nord de Chiang Rai, précisément Thaton puis Mae Salong et Mae Chan. Sur le site du Ministère des affaires étrangères, il est formellement déconseillé de se rendre sur la zone frontalière avec la Birmanie mais la carte reste imprécise, une bande rouge le long de la frontière est dessinée sans aucun nom de village, aussi impossible de savoir si ces villages sont concernés. cette année, nous avons choisi de rester 6 jours à Chiang Mai. Ayant découvert cette ville lors de précédents séjours, nous avons déjà fait le Doi Suthep, quelques temples dans la ville, un cours de cuisine, un cours de massage, une journée dans un sanctuaire pour éléphants à la retraite et un spectacle de danse des doigts.

Au programme cette année:

* suite de la découverte des temples et de la ville, * Doi Inthanon? (si pas trop loin en voiture) * Wat Pa Lat * Warorot Market * Wat Ket Karam * Wiang Kum Kam?

Je suis en pleine lecture de messages sur le forum et de carnets de voyages, mais pour le moment, je ne trouve que ça.

Avez-vous des choses à nous conseiller? Des choses ou lieux que vous avez aimé en particulier? Nous voyageons avec un bébé de 2 ans, donc on oublie la région de CHiang Rai, temple blanc etc car il y a trop de route. J'aimerai visiter une ferme/culture d'orchidées, est-ce qu'on trouve ça dans le coin?
