Bénévolat en Inde English translation pending
by Mamou44 · 2006-01-21 · 4 replies

USA Road Trip - November 2023
by Pinacoladada · 2026-04-24 · 13 replies
After staying in Aruba in November 2023, we picked up our camper van, which we had left in a hotel parking lot in Miami, Florida.

This isn’t our first road trip across the United States. Since we’re retired, we took the opportunity to travel along the American West Coast, starting with the Everglades in Florida to visit a few parks where we could spot alligators.

We also made a few stops in Mississippi and Texas to explore the most important cities in those states.

Did you know that Austin is home to the world’s largest urban bat colony? It’s truly impressive to see thousands of them take flight at dusk.

I invite you to keep reading this travel journal and watch the videos that’ll give you a little more insight into these different destinations.

Motorcycle Companion for Road Trip in Spain and Portugal in April-May 2026
by Rem39 · 2025-12-23 · 5 replies
I'm looking for a fellow biker to join me for part of a motorcycle road trip from the Jura to the Basque Country, then northern Spain, down to southern Portugal, and back through central Spain. I want to avoid big cities as much as possible and stick to small roads.

I'm retired, so I've got all the time in the world—the length of the trip isn't set and doesn't matter. Ideally, it’d be another retiree like me so we can take it easy—no rush. Planned for the second half of April and May 2026. Hope to see you soon!
All-inclusive French-speaking hotel in Sharm El Sheikh
by Didine · 2025-12-15 · 1 reply
Hello,

I’m looking into November (first, will it be warm enough for snorkeling in Sharm El Sheikh?) and especially for feedback on hotels. I’ve read that the clientele is mostly Italian or Russian. Are there any French-speaking hotels—or at least mixed ones? We’re a retired couple and are looking for a hotel around 1,000 € per week. We’ll be in Cairo beforehand and will take a domestic flight. Thanks in advance.
First trip to Morocco by camper van, anyone interested?

We’d like to go to Morocco for the first time at the end of November or beginning of December in our camper van! 😊 Looking for someone to share the road and the crossing with, and head down to Agadir. We’re in no rush—we love seeing beautiful things. Retirement suits us just fine! Couple in our mid-60s. ;)
Questions about a 6-week trip around Morocco using local transport
by An5 · 2025-09-20 · 13 replies
Hello everyone, We’re planning our next trip for this winter and need some advice to put it together. We’d love to avoid renting a car for the whole time. We visited southern Morocco back in 2011—our first trip as retirees! We loved the country so much, and now we’re heading back. Still focusing on the south, mainly for the weather. The plan is to travel down the coast from Essaouira to the Tighmert oasis at a relaxed pace. First question: is this doable without too much hassle using local transport? The idea of driving for the entire 6-week trip doesn’t really appeal to us. After that, we’d head to Ouarzazate, Skoura, the Todgha Gorge, Tinejdad, Erfoud, and then Marrakesh. I’d also like to visit the Fès region, which we can reach by train from Marrakesh. It’s a bit all over the place, and I’m realizing that as I write! Thanks in advance for your valuable input! We haven’t booked flights yet or even decided on a starting point. The trip is planned from mid-January to the end of February. We know the end of the trip will fall during Ramadan.

Kenya - January 2025 - Tsavo East - Tsavo West - Samburu - Meru NP - Aberdare NP
by Sylvie56 · 2025-06-13 · 127 replies
Hello everyone,

I’d like to invite you on a new adventure in Kenya.

Back in 2010, my husband Ben and I fell in love with Kenya, and we’ve been traveling there regularly ever since. This 2025 safari marked the first weeks of an important milestone in my life: retirement.

Of course, Felix—our guide and friend for all these years, whom some of you may even know from this forum—joined us again.

We chose an itinerary that takes us through the parks and reserves we particularly love in Kenya: Tsavo East (3 nights), Tsavo West (2 nights), a transition day in Embu, Samburu (5 nights), Meru NP (4 nights), Nanuyki to visit the Mount Kenya Animal Orphanage (
https://mountkenyawildlifeconservancy.org/) (1 night), and Aberdare NP (2 nights).

This safari wasn’t our most prolific in terms of wildlife sightings and photos (all taken by Ben), but I still think it’s worth sharing our experiences and impressions of the places we visited. Maybe other travelers will find useful information here to help them fulfill their dream of a Kenyan safari one day...

Living in Brittany, we left from Nantes on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, on the 6 AM Air France flight to CDG, then took the direct flight to Nairobi at 10:50 AM. No issues this time on either flight (unlike in October 2023...).

We arrived in Nairobi at 9:20 PM local time (there’s a two-hour time difference with France at this time of year). Going through passport control and collecting our luggage went smoothly. The hotel shuttle (https://67airporthotel.co.ke/) was waiting for us. We shared it with a friendly Swiss couple who were there to climb Mount Kenya. We arrived at the hotel around midnight. The 67 Airport Hotel is 10-15 minutes from Jomo Kenyatta Airport and offers great value for money. Plus, it’s close to the Mombasa road, which is handy when heading that way the next morning.

On Thursday, January 9, we had breakfast at the hotel restaurant at 6:30 AM, and as planned, Felix arrived around 7 AM. We got to check out his brand-new 4x4 Nissan—we’d be the first to test it! 🙂

We set off for Voi, making our usual stop in Mtito Andei. Traffic was heavy on the Mombasa road, with lots of trucks.

We arrived at the entrance of Tsavo East around 1 PM and made it to Sentrim Camp (https://www.sentrim-hotels.com/sentrim-tsavo.html) just in time for lunch.

We found Tsavo East unusually green—there had been heavy rains in December, which isn’t typical. As a result, the animals were scattered and harder to spot. The watering hole visible from the camp’s dining area was completely deserted, whereas it’s usually bustling with herds of elephants and other mammals.

Our tent, No. 9, for 3 nights.

This camp is well-located inside the park. It’s simple but comfortable enough for our tastes, the staff is super friendly (as is often the case in Kenya), and the buffet-style meals are varied and good. Tsavo is the main destination for tourists staying on the coast who come for a night or two on safari. In January, some days at the camp are very quiet, while some evenings, the restaurant is packed with groups (lots of Italians, in particular).

Tsavo is, of course, famous for its elephants. This time, we didn’t see many large herds, but we did have some great encounters with solitary males.

Around this small watering hole, we saw a gathering of African open-billed storks—we’d never seen so many before!

Tips for a motorcycle road trip across Asia
by RoyalHimalay · 2025-05-13 · 7 replies
Hi, I’m Franck and I’m planning to head to Asia this summer on my 410 Himalayan. No set destination—just a hankering for China, Mongolia, Laos… Now that I’m retired, I’ve got all the time in the world. I’m not planning to tackle hardcore off-roading, but I’ll probably leave the tarmac every now and then. If anyone has any tips on potential administrative hassles, essential tools and spare parts, or anything else, I’d love to hear them. Thanks for sharing! Best, Franck
Recommendations for Hanoi and Halong Bay
by Jaquot · 2025-04-26 · 12 replies
Hello fellow travelers! We’re planning to visit Vietnam at the end of 2025, arriving in HANOI, which we’d like to explore, along with HALONG BAY. I’ve seen that the ideal option is to take a 2-day boat trip. We’re retirees aged 79 and 75, used to traveling, so I’d love to hear your thoughts and recommendations for spending 4-5 days in this region.

Could you share some hotel addresses with private rooms and bathrooms, as well as tour agencies for Halong Bay that offer reasonable prices?

Thanks in advance!
Review of a cruise on the Celebrity Infinity in Greece
by Poupou10 · 2025-03-09 · 33 replies
Hi there, Here’s a little recap of my cruise on the CELEBRITY INFINITY from February 14th to 23rd. Itinerary: Athens / Thessaloniki / Thessaloniki / Kusadasi / AT SEA / Cyprus / AT SEA / Rhodes / Heraklion / Athens / Athens Since the cruise ended on Monday, we had to leave the ship on Sunday to go back to work on Monday 😕 Bring on retirement! This was our 34th cruise, and the price was around 1,300 € per person for AQUACLASS. Just to remind you, AQUACLASS includes spa access, a cabin with a hydro-massage shower, and a dedicated restaurant. For once, I have to say we didn’t get a good deal—prices dropped two months before departure, and we could’ve had AQUACLASS in a guaranteed cabin for 1,000 € per person. So, I think for January/February cruises, it’s better to book last-minute. We arrived in Piraeus on the 12th in the evening. The hotel was great—"Phidias Piraeus Hotel"—close to the center, with a spacious room (upgraded by Booking to a junior suite). The breakfast was decent, and the price was 125 € for two nights, all included. The cherry on top? The hotel offers free shuttles to the cruise ship on departure day—really awesome! We’d never visited Piraeus before, and it was a lovely surprise. Not only was the weather gorgeous, but the walk was really pleasant—the port, the beach, the little streets. It was way nicer than I’d imagined! TO BE CONTINUED: BOARDING 😉

Looking for chill biker(s) for a short Morocco trip

Hi there, I’m looking for travel companion(s) for a little 10-day trip to Morocco. I’ll be riding my RE 500 Classic, but you can bring whatever bike you like! It’s gonna be a relaxed, easygoing ride. Since I’m recently retired, I’ve got plenty of time on my hands. If you share the same philosophy about biking and travel, feel free to get in touch.
Morocco and possibly Mauritania by vehicle, late February 2025

After swapping our Patrol for a Duster, we’re planning a trip to Morocco to test the off-road capabilities of this new vehicle—and if we’re happy with it, we might push on to Mauritania. We’re a retired couple used to this kind of trip, and we’ll be leaving around late February 2025... Our passions: off-the-beaten-path travel, photography, wildlife, prehistory, and meeting locals. Looking for one or two other crews with similar interests...

Serena Fisseau & Vincent Peirani: «So Quiet» English translation pending
by Taamaden · 2020-07-05 · 1 reply

Serena Fisseau : voix, body percussions Vincent Peirani : accordéon, accordina, Wurlitzer, piano, plastic bags, music box, voix

by Louloupierre · 2020-04-26 · 2 replies
Bonjour,

Merci, Lou
