We land early in Detroit... a nightmare of an airport. A long, dreadful baggage check process, but we still make it to gate A10 just in the nick of time—only for disaster to strike! My passport has my first and last name, my boarding pass has my first and last name, BUT not on Delta’s computer—so we’re denied boarding! We head to the Air France-Delta-KLM desk, where an employee listens to us sympathetically. He books us two seats on an 8:30 AM flight to SF... Then passes us off to two colleagues who offer us a night in a hotel... and send a message to the baggage service to keep our checked luggage safe... In the end, we go to bed earlier, wake up earlier, but since we’ll still get some sleep on the plane, we might be able to look back on this whole mess with a smile... well, we hope so, anyway. 10:17 PM in Detroit—time to sleep. Our clean clothes and toiletries are in the plane. We’ll bounce back!!;

Hi everyone, I’d love to get your thoughts on a 13-night trip to Crete this summer. We’ll be 2 adults and 2 kids (5 and 10 years old), and we’re renting a car to get around. ➔ If you have any tips on renting a car, I’m all ears! (I was thinking of picking it up at the airport.) For now, I’m planning a round-trip flight to Heraklion (I’m still debating whether to return from Chania, in which case we’d spend our last night in Paleóchora or Elos). 18/07 - 20/07 (2 nights) → Paleóchora or Elos ➔ Do you have a preference between these two spots? They both seem like great, low-key places, but Elos is more mountainous.

Hike through Samaria Gorge (full-day trip) ➔ Do you think this is doable with a 5-year-old? I’ve read there’s a bus at the end of the gorge, but I’m worried about missing the ferry and having to rush the kids. Relax at Elafonissi Beach

20/07 - 21/07 (1 night) → Heraklion

Hi, I’m traveling with my 13-year-old son in June and July 2025 for 6 weeks—2 weeks in Flores and 4 in Sulawesi. I don’t want a super "roots" trip because long transport times eat up too much time, so I’d prefer to use only private or shared drivers whenever possible since I’ve read that public transport really slows you down. That said, I don’t want to hire the same driver for the whole trip because I think it’d be way over budget.

My first question is about transport times and approximate costs. I’d like to double-check the times I’ve seen because it’s not clear to me whether they’re for private vehicles or public buses: - Labuan Bajo – Denge (Wae Rebo): 5–6 hours ???? - Denge – Ruteng: 3 hours ???? - Ruteng – Bajawa: 4 hours ???? - Bajawa – Moni (Kelimutu Volcano): 3.5 hours ???? - Moni – Koka Beach: 1.5 hours ???? - Maumere – Koka Beach: 2 hours ????

My second question is about the Maumere–Makassar ferry. It’s impossible to find a clear answer—PELNI’s website shows only about 2 ferries per month, but Rome2Rio mentions a daily departure (with a return the next day, like the Labuan Bajo–Makassar route, I assume). I’d really like to avoid flying since it’s so expensive on this route.

My third question: I’ve read that flight tickets are more expensive when bought from France than from Indonesia. Has anyone else heard this?

Hi there, After visiting southern Sumatra in 2020 (Padang area, Bukkitinggi, Lake Maninjau), we’re heading north in two weeks to explore. We’ll arrive in Medan after Singapore. Then we plan to go to Bukit Lawang, Berastagi, and Lake Toba before finishing up on Pulau Weh. Yeah, I know three weeks is short, but we like taking our time now that we’re in our fifties 😄. On foot, it seems tricky, and the shuttles don’t really appeal to us. Is it better to skip Shark Valley and focus on Loop Road? Is the day too ambitious with the drive back to Fort Myers Beach? I wanted to avoid Naples because I’d prefer to stay two nights in each place to avoid changing hotels every day. But if it’s too tight, we’ll do one night in Naples and one in Fort Myers Beach. - Night in Fort Myers Beach

It was tough making choices for the Orlando parks. As a huge Harry Potter fan, I was leaning toward Universal, but the girls have never been to Disney in Paris and are huge Disney fans, so skipping Magic Kingdom seemed tricky.

Hi everyone, What great news to read that Voyage Forum is back up and running—I’m so happy! 🙂 I need some advice for a trip we’re planning in 2025: New Caledonia and Australia.

We’ll arrive in Australia on September 1, 2025, and the plan is to spend 2 nights in Melbourne to explore the city, then rent a car to drive from Melbourne to Sydney, where we’ll arrive on September 12. Unfortunately, we won’t have time for the Great Ocean Road

I’ve checked several blogs for this route and here’s the itinerary I’ve put together:

9/4: Melbourne to Philip Island (140 km) – 1 night 9/5: Philip Island to Wilsons Promontory National Park – 2 nights 9/7: Raymond Island (free ferry to cross a 200 m sea channel) – Lakes Entrance – 1 night 9/8: Drive to Narooma (stop at Quarry Beach) – 1 night at "Bodalla Park Forest Rest Area" 9/9: Batemans Bay – Pebbly Beach – Dolphin Point – Jervis Bay – 1 night (to be found) 9/10: Jervis Bay and surroundings – 1 night at Bendeela Picnic Area 9/11: Blue Mountains National Park (1 hour from Sydney) – 1 night (to be found) 9/12: Arrival in Sydney

I know we won’t be able to see everything, and this 9-day route is just a starting point. The goal is to avoid rushing—if we see a place we like, we’ll stop, even if it means seeing less. A vacation where we don’t watch the clock too much! 🙂 Does this route (a mix of several blogs where not all stops are noted) seem realistic or too ambitious? Are there certain spots that are more worth prioritizing over the ones I’ve listed? For example, in one of the blogs I read, travelers skipped Blue Mountains National Park because they chose another site (which I’ve forgotten 😎).

For accommodation, we’ll likely be camping (free or paid), so if you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear them! 😎

Our arrival in Sydney on September 12 depends on my hope to participate in the marathon on September 15, 2025. After that, we’ll leave Sydney on September 17 for Ayers Rock.

Bonjour Avec le confinement j'ai pris le temps de faire un gros tri dans mes photos. Beaucoup étaient des photos de plages qui m'ont rappelé de magnifiques souvenirs. Donc je me demandais qu'elles sont les 3 plages qui vous viennent à l'esprit quand vous y pensez et qui vous ont marqué d'une manière ou d'une autre.

Personnellement 3 me viennent à l'esprit car elles étaient calmes, pas aménagées, en pleine nature et quasiment personnes dessus.

1) plage barra velha sur l'île de Marajo au Brésil (en plus j'ai pu louer une petite cabane sur pilotis pendant 1 semaine sur cette plage)

2)Mission beach dans l'état du Queensland en Australie

3) La plage du parc de Cahuita au Costa rica

Je devais aller cet été au Groenland mais j'ai annulé. Du coup, je devais passer 21 jours aux marquises en 2021 mais comme je tiens absolument à me rendre au Groenland l'année prochaine, les Marquises ça sera pour 2022.

ça me permet de prendre mon temps pour trouver ce qui me correspond le mieux. J'ai déjà échangé avec plusieurs d'entre vous.

J'ai l'intention de rester 3 semaines dans la même île. Au début, j'avais choisi Maupiti puis mon choix s'est porté sur Hiva Oa. J'ai échangé avec une autochtone qui loue des bungalows. J'en ai trouvé un pour 100 euros/nuit. Elle me fait un prix car j'y resterai 3 semaines. 100 euros en demi pension par jour. ça me semble honnête. Peut être que ça aura augmenté dans deux ans ?

Qui s'est rendu à HIVA OA et peux m'en parler ? Je suis contemplative mais trois semaines au même endroit n'est ce pas trop long ?

Le cas échéant, n'est il pas préférable que je me rende sur une autre île ? Je pense à Maupiti mais la liaison aérienne Maupiti Hiva Oa est est possible et vous me conseilleriez de le faire dans quel ordre ? D'abord Hiva Oa ou d'abord Maupiti ? La liaison aérienne entre les deux îles est elle coûteuse ?

En effet, le vol Paris-Papetee-Hiva Oa est coûteux et je crains qu'il en soit de même pour Hiva Oa-Maupiti.

Enfin, Maupiti n'est il pas devenu trop touristique par rapport à Hiva Oa ? Je précise que je m'y rendrai au mois d'octobre.

Nous (couple) partons 3 semaines en Crète en octobre. Nous atterrissons à La Canee et louerons une voiture. Nous nous limiterons à l'ouest pour pouvoir passer 3 nuits en moyenne, et donc 2 jours plein, à chaque étape. Nous aimons flâner dans les ruelles, randonner modérément (j'ai acheté le guide Rothier), découvrir de beaux paysages, faire du snorkeling... Voici l'itinéraire auquel je pense, avec quelques points d'interrogation.

- 3 nuits à Chania (nous atterrissons le soir, donc 2 jours pleins). Nous louerons la voiture le jour du départ, pour aller randonner sur la presqu'île d'Akrotiri avant de quitter la région -3 nuits à Kissamos : Balos-Phalassarna, ... En quittant Kissamos vers Paleohora : Elafonissi - 3 nuits à Paleohora : gorges de Samaria, repos, snorkeling

Ensuite, on voudrait aller Hora Sfakion. Quelle est la meilleure option ? Prendre le ferry avec la voiture ? Dans ce cas, faut-il réserver ? Ou alors par la route en remontant vers la Canee avant de redescendre ? Dans ce cas, on voudrait couper la route en logeant 1 nuit. Où faire étape ailleurs qu'à La Canee ?

Ensuite : - 3 nuits à Hora Sfakion : Loutro, gorges d'Imbros - 3 nuits à Plakias : cap Kako Mouri, Preveli, Palm Beach, snorkeling - 1 nuit à Rethymnon. Visite, et le lendemain, monastère d' Arkadi

Pour terminer notre séjour, nous pensons passer 3 nuits à buller dans une maison d'hôte du côté de Krouson, puis une dernière nuit à La Canee avant de reprendre notre vol.

en essayant de sélectionner notre hébergement je me perds complètement. et je me disais que des expériences récentes pourraient sans doute m'aider. entre Sera Beach, Sandy Bay, Malenge Indah, Lestari (j'ai lu que ce dernier venait de changer de propriétaire est-ce exact?)... sur ces endroits je lis un peu tout et son contraire alors pas évident de me faire une idée... par ailleurs je me demande quels pourraient être les avantages et inconvénients d'être plutôt au nord ou au sud...? proche ou loin du petit village... et d'ailleurs est-ce qu'on peut relier à pied Pulau Papan depuis Sandy, Sera etc?

Ma femme et moi envisageons un séjour en campervan de 32 jours pleins (hors trajet avion) en juin au départ de San Francisco. On souhaite aller jusqu'à l'état de Wasington puis revenir à San Francisco en passant par l'Orégon. Nous aimons par dessus tout, la nature, la randonnée et la photo ! Notre itinéraire est en cours d'élaboration. Il est peu-être un peu trop ambitieux .... Etant au début de nos recherches, j'ai beaucoup de mal à me rendre compte du temps nécessaire à passer dans chaque lieu. Que pensez-vous de cet ébauche d'itinéraire ? Mérite-t-il d'être fait dans l'autre sens ? (eu égard à la neige en début de saison dans certains sites...)

Pensez-vous que c'est jouable en partant tôt de faire ce trajet et de prendre un vol à 14h35 ou 15h25 à Tambo, ça nous permettrait d'arriver de jour au Cap pour rejoindre Stellenbosch ?). Le sunset est à 18h47 et la nuit noire à 19h12 ce jour là donc le vol qui arrive à 18h30 est déjà trop tardif...

L'avantage de ce 2e itinéraire est d'éviter les frais d'abandon de la voiture, et d'avoir plus de choix de vols pour rejoindre Le Cap, mais il y a 1h de route en plus. Quelle route est la meilleure, la plus roulante, celle du Drakensberg à Durban ou celle du Drakensberg à Joburg ?

Je pars dans quelques semaines en Thaïlande. Mon trip pour le Nord est bouclé. Par contre je lis, relis les sites et forums, mais je n'arrivent pas à trouver l'endroit et les excursions vraiment chouettes sur le Sud. Je désire éviter Phuket (déjà fait un arrêt de quelques jours il y a qqes années) et Koh Samui qui ne me parle pas. Je pensais me diriger vers Krabi.

Avez-vous des bonnes idées pour excursion en bateau (sans qu'on ne soit 50) pour les visites des îles ?

Nous avons les réservations pour un croisière MSC au port de Miami pour février 2020. Quel est la distance entre l'aéroport et le port. Y-a-t-il des autobus? Combien coute un taxi?

Je construis mon périple entre ces 2 destinations et me voilà bloquée. Help! 6 semaines pour faire ce voyage et après un petit break d’acclimatation vers Gokarna, je remonte lentement en suivant tous les bons conseils du forum de Badami à Indore en une trentaine de jours De Indore l’idée était de redescendre sur Bombay en passant par Nasik mais entre ces deux villes c’est bien long et je n’y vois pas de points d’intérêt. Arrivée à Indore ou Ujjain j’ai encore du temps une grosse semaine et je peux m’écarter du chemin. J’aimerais juste éviter de revenir sur mes pas. Alors si vous avez des conseils à me donner Je vous en remercie d’avance.

Avec le relâchement (a confirmer !!) des exigences de visa au SL (visa on arrival a l'aéroport et aux frontière terrestres) j'envisage un relativement court séjour (10/11j) en Guinée et SL en novembre.

L'idée étant d'atterrir a conakry, de tenter de rejoindre le plus tôt possible le fouta djalon pour 4/5 jours, puis de rejoindre Freetown (j'imagine changement possible a Coyah) pour 4/5 jours a Freetown et ses plages !

Questions pour les spécialistes ! -Les pistes et routes en Guinée sont elles si horribles ? -Est ce que ce déplacement sur 4/5 jours en fouta djalon fait tellement sens ou est ce trop court ? Ou vaut il mieux se baser et est il nécessaire de "monter" jusqu'à Labe ?

J'ai envie d'apprendre l'anglais depuis un moment, j'ai de la famille qui habite a Fort Lauderdale, je me suis déjà rendu chez eux pour 2 semaines et cela à été une super expérience.

Maintenant je souhaite y retourné pour parler Anglais et pour bien sur les voir, bien sur je sais que c'est Miami, que l'on parle souvent espagnol, je suis d'ailleurs portugais (double nationalité) donc je comprend assez facilement l'espagnol, mais j'essayerai de vraiment insisté sur l'anglais.

Maintenant j'ai deux choix qui me viennent à l’esprit, sois partir avec l'école Education First qui réside à Miami south beach, pour une durée de 12 semaines avec 20h de cours par semaine, demi pension et logement compris on est à 7000€ sans billet d'avion, c'est une somme colossal. Mais je m'occupe de rien.

J'aurais préféré trouver un job "étudiant" dans un bar ou caissier ou vendeur, mais de ce que j'ai vu c'est compliqué pour l'affaire des Visa, je suis diplômé d'un DUT GEII suivis d'une Licence pro Infrastructure Ferroviaire Signalisation (RATP métro parisiens), j'ai entendu parler de stage qui comptait pour un visa je me dis pourquoi pas trouvé un job la bas pour quelques mois ? mais je pense que ça ne se fait pas comme cela... Si je demande à mon oncle de me trouver un travail, ils vont faire un visa pour un caissier barman ou autre ??

Avez vous des retours sur des expériences semblables a la mienne ? si je peux mettre une croix sur le job "étudiant" ? et donc commencer à économisé pour l'école ?

Le site SANParks indique "Internationals may only purchase an International All Parks Cluster unless in possession of a valid South African residency/work permit." ce qui, sauf erreur de ma part ne s'applique qu'aux étrangers ayant un permis de travail ou de résidence (du moins en traduction littérale). Ma question est de savoir si, en tant que simples touristes (nous passons 15 jours en AfS) nous pouvons bénéficier de la Wild Card ?

Je ne souhaite pas acheter un pass qui, au final ne me permettrait pas d'accéder aux parcs que nous souhaitons faire et m'obligerait à en prendre un autre sur place.

Dans les divers sujets lus ici ou là, personne ne semble avoir relevé cette subtilité.
