L'amazonie me fait rêver mais d'aprés ce que j'ai lu, c'est très difficile à visiter à ce moment car c'est la saison des pluies qui commence... Bonjour, Partons le 26 octobre 2006 jusqu'au 17 novembre, itinéraire prévu, Windhoek, désert du Kalahari, Fish River Canyon, Luderitz, Helmeringhausen, Sossusvlei, Victoria Falls, Chobe National Park, Cape Town, et pour terminer par la route des jardins jusqu'à Port Elisabeth. Qui a aimé ces destinations et aurait de bons plans à nous donner, visites à ne pas manquer surtout à Cape Town, lieux historiques, restaurants typiques, artisanat. Ca se précise !!! Sur les conseils de beaucoup d’entre vous je vais essayer d’aller jusqu’à epupa falls en novembre prochain. Nous aurons une 2x4. J’ai besoin de vos lumières pour le choix à faire :

Itinéraire prévu : Cape-cross – Brandberg-Twyfemfontein-Palmwag-Sesfontein (et surtout Warmquelle d’après ce que j’ai pu lire)-Opuwo Epupa-Etosha à logement sur place en bungalow ou lodge quelqu’un a t’il des adresses à Epupa ?

Pour repartir, me conseillez-vous de reprendre la même route jusqu’à Opuwo ? (dans ce cas là je passerais par la c35, ferai une étape à Kamanjab que je ne voudrais pas non plus rater, puis entrerai à Etosha par Okaukuejo)… Ou plutôt de longer la frontière jusqu’à Ruacana (logements dans le coin sans camping ???), puis de prendre la C46 jusqu’à Namutoni (si vous connaissez des étapes intéressantes en route, là aussi je suis preneuse)…et dans ce 2ème je ferais plutôt Twyfelfontein-kamanjab-palmwag et sesfontein à l’aller…

Je suis en train de préparer un safari en AFS. Je pars de Johanesbourg, blyde river canyon, réserves privées, kruger puis je descends vers le kwazulu pour visiter Hluhluwe-Imfolozi, Phinda et la côte de St Lucia à Kosi Bay.

Je prévois de rester deux ou trois jours à Kosi Bay et de descendre vers St Lucia. J'ai vu qu'il y avait quelques points d'accès à la côte: Lake Sibaya, Sodwana, False Bay, Fani Island, Charter's creek, St Lucia, Cape Vidal. Que me recommandez-vous?

Au risque de paraître désagréable, je m'interroge franchement sur l'efficacité miraculeuse que tant de gens prettent au Gore Tex. Certe il s'agit de membranes "respirantes", qui laissent passer l'humidité du corps et sont censées éviter de baigner dans son jus. Mais l'efficacité n'est elle pas limitée à une utilisation non intensive ? Sauf à s'équiper de pied en cape de matériel issu de la Nasa à prix d'or, un tissu imperméable respirant n'évacuera pas la transpiration instantanément. Avec une faible activité physique, d'accord ça fonctionne, surtout par exemple pour les mains ou les pieds. Bien sûr les propriétés respirantes favorisent le transfert, c'est "mieux que si c'était pire", mais avec un vélo (non électrique), on a vite fait de monter en température. Alors de l�� à dire que c'est la panacée... A ma connaissance, le seul moyen d'éviter vraiment de baigner dans son jus, c'est une bonne aération, seule capable d'évacuer les calories et l'humidité. En fait, le principale point fort de GoreTex © ne serait-il pas marketing ??

je pars en voyage de noce an AS, je suis entrain de préparer une carte avec les points ou on s'arréte pour les invites qui contribuent à ce voyage.

Nous allons visiter les Cyclades au mois de juin prochain, Bien sûr nous voulons visiter Santorini et une ou deux autres îles.

J'aimerais avoir des conseils sur le choix des autres îles. Ce que nous recherchons c'est plutôt la tranquilité, les plages, le paysage, pas trop touristique. Nous comptons rester 5 à 7 jours par île donc nous aimerions louer un petit appartement avec cuisinette, sur le bord de la mer de préférence.

En fait je compte aller de Paris à Cape Town en voiture en passant par Le Caire mais le Soudan ne veut plus me délivrer de visa terrestre... il me faut donc contourner et je pensait aller d'Egypte à Djibouti en bateau (cargo ou autre...). As promised, here’s my review of the cruise I took from the 5th to the 19th on the MSC Virtuosa.

As you know, I had initially booked a cruise with Mein Schiff departing from Dubai (from Dubai to Cape Town). It was a 22-day cruise. Due to the issues in the Persian Gulf, my cruise was canceled by Mein Schiff.

So, we started looking for a Plan B because we really wanted to go. Especially my wife, who had just had a minor procedure and needed some rest. Since she had already taken time off, she was determined to travel. However, we were looking for an affordable Plan B since we weren’t sure when Mein Schiff or the airline would reimburse us.

While browsing online, I found a 15-day cruise departing from Pointe-à-Pitre (including flights, transfers, the cruise, and drinks) for a price of 1,200 € in a Fantastica balcony cabin. We thought, *Why not?*

I should mention that I’m not usually a big fan of MSC. My last experience with them was post-Covid (I took two cruises, one in 2021 and another in 2022), and it was honestly a disaster. We didn’t want to repeat that, but after talking to Catherine, who told me she was very happy with a short Christmas cruise, we decided to give it a try.

I have to say, I was left speechless. Honestly, the cruise was absolutely perfect. There’s nothing to complain about (or just a few minor details). In terms of service and food, I felt like I was on a premium cruise line. I’d even say MSC has nothing to envy from some of those companies. While premium lines like Holland, Celebrity, and Royal are cutting back on services, I think MSC has made huge improvements. Seriously, I wasn’t expecting this at all. You’ll see what I mean as we chat more.

I won’t do a full review like I usually do because there weren’t many stops: 1. We boarded in Pointe-à-Pitre 2. We stopped in Saint-Martin 3. Then it was a direct crossing to the Azores...

This cruise was really about relaxing, even if it’s not the kind of trip we usually take.

First off, I’m not a big fan of "flight and cruise" packages. I asked if we could leave two days early, but they said it wasn’t possible. We had to take the flight, then the bus, and board the ship directly.

It’s not really my thing, but given the price we paid and since we really wanted to relax, we thought, *Why not?*

Here’s the itinerary:

But as I mentioned, it wasn’t about the itinerary. It was really about taking a break and unwinding. Honestly, I came back thrilled.

Good evening, I’m drawn to the siren call of Voy.. priv... offering a lovely Namibia itinerary, but I won’t hide that our last trip with this same "organization" left a bitter taste... though to be fair, the destination had lost all its charm—or maybe it was just too much so: Bali! I loved it in 2001, but when I went back in 2023, I hated it. Still, we let ourselves be convinced by an enticing price...

But that’s not the point. Now, we want to take this dream trip to Namibia. There are so many options, from the simplest to the most sophisticated: tourist buses, self-drive 4x4s, or private guides. Each has its pros and cons.

The bus: I hated Bali *because* of this—too many people, too touristy... On the other hand, you just let yourself be guided. No stress about driving.

4x4: Waking up in the middle of nature must be incredible—being self-sufficient with a travel journal, knowing every day is full of surprises. The downside? Only my partner drives. A former sales rep, he’s logged so many kilometers it’s wrecked his back...

With a guide: That’d be the dream... but we don’t have the budget.

So, I’m looking for a solution—contacts, advice—to make this trip match our tastes *and* our budget. For early April, of course!

Hi there, Our son is in Canada for a year on a Working Holiday Visa, and we’re planning to join him around September 20th for a 15-day campervan road trip in Nova Scotia. I was thinking of going with Canadream, but if you have other rental companies to recommend, don’t hesitate! Here’s the itinerary I’ve been considering—I tried not to cram in too many stops so we’re not just driving the whole time.

Day 1: Pick up campervan in Halifax at 3 PM. Stop at Peggy’s Cove, then drive to Lunenburg and Blue Rocks (151 km) Day 2: Explore Lunenburg, then head to Kejimkujik National Park for hikes or other activities. Overnight in the park (91 km) Day 3: Drive to Annapolis Royal (visit), Port-Royal National Historic Site, then on to Digby (111 km) Day 4: Ferry to Saint John (visit Reversing Falls), then drive to St. Andrews (103 km) Day 5: Whale-watching excursion and explore St. Andrews Day 6: Drive to Alma and Fundy National Park (233 km—we’ll probably leave St. Andrews the night before to split the drive and arrive earlier in Alma) Day 7: Hopewell Rocks (check tides) (43 km) Day 8: Hopewell Rocks—Tatamagouche (dinner train)—Pictou (237 km). Any suggestions for this day? Day 9: Drive to Baddeck, Cabot Trail to Chéticamp (317 km). Ideas for breaking up the drive? I thought of Pomquet Beach Provincial Park for a walk on the boardwalks, but any other suggestions are welcome. Day 10–11: Cape Breton Highlands National Park for hikes and Cabot Trail to Baddeck (208 km) Day 12: Explore Baddeck, Graham Bell Museum, and Bras d’Or Lake Drive. Drive to Louisbourg (118 km) Day 13: Fortress of Louisbourg, then drive to Liscomb (302 km) Day 14: Drive back to Halifax via Lawrencetown Beach (or other suggestions?). Fisherman’s Cove (205 km) Day 15: Return campervan by 10 AM

- All suggestions are welcome, as long as they don’t add too much detour from the main stops. We’d rather skip some places to fully enjoy the ones we visit. We love hiking in beautiful landscapes, charming and lively towns or villages, etc. - I wanted to add a museum dedicated to Acadian culture, but I didn’t find anything along the route—or they’re closed this time of year. Maybe there are places to listen to folk music? - If you have any campgrounds or wild camping spots to recommend, I’d love to hear about them. - Do we need to book the ferry this time of year?

I’ve been working on our itinerary for a while now and would love to get your thoughts and/or recommendations on this road trip. Day 3 - Tuesday, April 8: Miami - Marathon (2.5-hour drive) - Stroll through the Wynwood neighborhood in the morning - Walk around Little Havana or downtown, or hit the beach in the afternoon, depending on the kids - Drive to Marathon for the night

Day 4 - Wednesday, April 9: Day trip to Key West (2-hour round trip from Marathon) - Fort Zachary Taylor State Park - Stroll through Old Town in the late afternoon and sunset at Mallory Square - Night in Marathon

I wanted to avoid Naples because I’d prefer to stay two nights in each place to avoid changing hotels every day. It was tough making choices for the Orlando parks. As a huge Harry Potter fan, I was leaning toward Universal, but the girls have never been to Disney in Paris and are huge Disney fans, so skipping Magic Kingdom seemed tricky.

In these post-COVID years, South Africa (SA) has drawn me back again... The long-time forum members will say I'm a bit obsessed (I've now surpassed 20 trips to this country, including 2 in Namibia)... But new readers can find my old travel journals and enjoy this new installment. So, three new trips... each lasting a month... always too short. I’ll try to be pragmatic.

Let’s start with the basics! You can plan your trip from your couch with complete peace of mind. Through any Booking site or directly (sometimes cheaper), I’ve never had any issues with my direct bookings—they’ve always matched what was promised. For national parks outside KwaZulu-Natal (where it’s KZN Wildlife), use the SANparks website, or Nature Reserve for that type of "accommodation." Air France, Lufthansa, or KLM... depending on the year and circumstances. Most flights are overnight, allowing you to arrive early in Joburg and... leave this city I don’t much like as quickly as possible. KLM offers a daytime flight to Cape Town... just arrange your first night’s stay. You drive on the left in SA (you knew that, right?)... you get used to it. Passport: must still be valid for 6 months with several blank pages... Car rental? A car is pretty much essential, whether for short or long trips. It’s safer too. Aside from the secure Gautrain in Joburg and Cape Town (CT from now on), I don’t take the train. Except for the red bus drop-off/pick-up in CT, I don’t take the bus. In this specific case, it’s practical because you can access all of CT’s spots—including the famous Lion’s Head—without worrying about parking or traffic. These past three years, I’ve chosen Around About Cars as my rental company. I’m very satisfied with them. What kind of car? It depends on what you’re doing and your budget. The vast majority of roads don’t require a special vehicle. In a park, the "high ground clearance" of SUVs lets you see animals better and helps avoid potholes (the SA version—ostrich-sized), speed bumps (our "sleeping policemen" with a big belly), and tackle the last few kilometers or 100 meters that can be a bit rough with complete peace of mind. Do your research. For me, it’s 4x2 or 4x4 depending on... South Africans drive fast... and I feel safer that way. International driver’s permit? Legally required! Never asked for by a rental company, only once by the police—but I stood my ground, confident, and it went smoothly. Road checks? Yes, often—at least two every time, but they’re relaxed... Note that if a police officer wants to give you a fine, it must be done at the police station—insist on going there... they’ll usually drop it. If they suggest paying on the spot in cash to "make things easier"... it’s just for their pocket. There’s a special "police alert" number—remind them of it! The rand is the South African currency. Nowadays, cards work in many places. But note: a car rental company will ask for a credit card, not a debit card. Be careful: cash is no longer accepted in SANparks camps and other places (entrances, etc.)! It’s card only! I always carry some cash. I order it from Yeschange (sounds dodgy, but it’s very reliable). Phew... What an introduction!
