Hello, I’m a young, active retiree looking for someone to join me in Latin America without the obligation of being together 24/7. I’m leaving on 25/09 for Cusco in Peru, then planning to head down to Chile. If the date is too soon, we could meet up there instead.

I used to travel independently with my partner. We’ve been to Peru, Bolivia twice, Guatemala, Ecuador, Cuba, Ethiopia…

Now, I’m on my own and would prefer to share the experience rather than travel solo. I last visited Peru 13 years ago, so I’m excited to revisit it and explore it differently this time. If you’re interested… see you soon! Brigitte

Hello, Active and dynamic young retiree looking for someone to accompany me in discovering Chile and possibly Argentina, at the end of 2025 or early 2026, with no obligation to be together 24/7. I used to travel independently with my partner. We’ve been to Peru, Bolivia twice, Guatemala, Ecuador, Cuba, Ethiopia... Now, I’m on my own and would prefer to share the experience rather than travel alone. I’m planning to leave at the end of 2025 for... I haven’t set the duration yet.

Hello from the Hautes-Pyrénées, I might be interested, as a senior, in your post if you haven’t found a travel buddy yet. Best regards, Jeannine

Hi, I’m Françoise, and I’m based in Bordeaux. I’m interested in your trip to South America since I’ll be traveling for two and a half to three months, from December to the end of February, and I’m looking for new horizons. I’m used to traveling independently, and my track record of 46 countries gives me some confidence in getting around. Maybe we could get to know each other. See you soon

Hello Jeannine, First of all, can we use the informal "you"? To answer your question, I do have people who’ve contacted me, but we’re just at the beginning of our exchanges—we’ll see if it’s a good fit. Spending several weeks, or even months, with a stranger is a big decision, even if you can never be 100% sure. We can get to know each other—no commitment. I’m looking for someone to join me on my journey, which should last 2 or 3 months, and who knows, maybe longer if I like where I am. I have no time constraints. I prefer wide-open spaces and avoid big cities unless something draws me there. I’m not into museums—I love wandering through small streets, grabbing a quick bite at a local eatery, staying in a simple but clean hospedaje, hiking in nature, and traveling by bus. I’m pretty organized and take lots of notes, probably a professional habit. Most of my trips have been planned by me, no travel agencies. I’m sporty, I compete in trail running, so I walk a lot when I travel—not the type to just lounge around. That’s a bit about my personality—there’s probably more to say, but that’s all I can think of for now. See you soon. Brigitte

Hi Françoise, First of all, can we use the informal "tu"? We can definitely get to know each other—it’s better that way! Traveling for several months with a stranger means you can’t be 100% sure, even if you try not to make a mistake. I’m looking for someone to join me on my trip, which should last 2 or 3 months (and who knows, maybe longer if I like where I am). I don’t have any time constraints. I prefer wide-open spaces and avoid big cities as much as possible unless something draws me there. I’m not into museums—I love wandering through small streets, grabbing a quick bite at a local dive, sleeping in a simple but clean hospedaje, and hiking in nature. I’d like to get around by bus. I’m pretty organized and take notes on everything—probably a professional habit. Most of the trips I’ve taken were planned by me, no travel agencies. My partner and I used to travel by 4x4—siphoning gas, changing a tire, or anything like that, I can handle it. I’m sporty, I compete in trail running, which is why I walk a lot when traveling—not the type to lounge around. No sleeping in; I like to make the most of the day to see as much as possible. I’ve already been to several Latin American, Asian, and African countries, but I have a soft spot for Latin countries. I’ve never stayed longer than 3 weeks due to lack of time. This time, it’ll be a first. That’s a bit about my personality—there’s probably more to say, but for now, that’s all I can think of. Oh, and I don’t speak English and my Spanish is just passable, but that’s not a problem. When you want something, you always find a way to make yourself understood. Most importantly, I don’t want to rely on my travel partner. I’m very independent.

See you soon. Brigitte

Hi Brigitte, Oops! I’m not an early riser—I prefer small hotels and Airbnbs, not hostels. I’m fine with walking, but no trails. I don’t think we’re a good match. Too bad.

Hi Françoise, Too bad, but in Latin America the sun sets early, which is why it's better to get up early (7 AM) to make the most of it. As for accommodations, I prefer simplicity—not necessarily hostels, but sometimes the water isn’t very hot or you have to rinse off with a bucket. And I prefer a backpack over a suitcase, which is too cumbersome. When traveling, I hike, but I don’t do trails.

Anyway, it’s hard to find someone who’s a good match. But it’s better to be clear to avoid surprises. Have a great day, Brigitte

Hi Françoise, finally someone who’s a late riser like me! Long live retirement and time to enjoy life! We’d chatted a bit privately last November (2024), realizing we had quite a few things in common, but you wanted to go to Colombia and I didn’t. That’s how we lost touch. We should reconnect. I have your phone number.

Hi, You can remind me whenever you want, just not today because I’m busy, but starting tomorrow there won’t be any problem. It’d be great if we could chat. Have a nice day

Hello Yllen, I’ve been browsing the site to find someone who might want to travel with me. I was about to post an ad, but yours caught my eye. Like you, I’d love to visit these South American countries (among others). My travel style is similar to yours—simple but with a minimum of comfort. I adapt pretty easily to different situations or obstacles that might come up during a trip. I’m an early riser because it’s often quieter and more peaceful before the hustle and bustle starts. I’ve already been to a few countries in Asia, but in the Americas, only the western U.S., Canada, and Colombia for 6 weeks. I’m in good health, can handle treks (depending on the elevation gain), and I prefer villages and the countryside—unless, of course, there are must-see spots or big cities to visit briefly. Like you, I’d like to leave at the beginning of next year, but it could be a little before or after—I’m flexible. The best thing would be, if you’re up for it, to discuss this over the phone. No commitment, just more friendly and less tedious than typing on a keyboard. What do you think? Here’s my number: 0682075325 Looking forward to your reply. Best regards, Chantal

Hello, I came across this post and it really resonates with me. The idea appeals to me, but timing-wise, it’s a year too early for me. If your plans are set for next southern summer, too bad—but if not, we could revisit the idea.

For my part, I’ll definitely be heading to Argentina and Chile in November/December 2026 to visit friends. But I’m also looking for company to explore these regions a bit more—I’ve traveled through them many times, alone, with family, or in groups, on foot, by bus, car, or boat. Now, retired and on my own, I’d love to experience them with new travel partners. Let me know if something could work out for that timeframe. And if so, we could exchange emails and phone numbers directly. Warm regards, Marc

PS: I live at the foot of the Pyrenees.

Hi Marc, And thank you for your reply. Would it be possible for you to call the number I gave you so we can discuss it more easily? I’m heading south for a few days later today and won’t be back until July 1st. So after that date would be great. Have a wonderful day. Chantal

Hi Brigitte, retired, 70 years old, living in the Dordogne (24). I’ve been traveling since retirement, backpacker-style, mostly in Asia. Earlier this year, I did a bike trip with panniers in South Korea and Japan, which allowed for great interactions with locals, more authentic customs, and a deeper discovery of the country. Accommodation at moderate prices, plus the added bonus of camping, which is perfect for adventure. Your way of traveling really resonates with me—I’m curious about new places to explore and available at the start of the year. Looking forward to exchanging travel stories—WhatsApp: 06 08 05 81 58. Hi Chantal, Sorry for the late reply—the site didn’t notify me of your message, and I haven’t logged in for a while. Anyway, have you found someone to accompany you yet? As for me, I’ve booked my flight ticket. I’m finally leaving on 25/09 for Cusco, Peru. I’ll stay there for a while to revisit the area and take some Spanish classes. After that, I’ll head south by bus toward Chile, hoping the border officials aren’t too much of a hassle. Still interested? See you soon, Brigitte

Hi Brigitte, So, change of destination because my priority was to leave at the beginning of next year (early January). I’ve joined up with two people and found a fourth (2 men, 2 women—gender parity!). We’ve put together a little group of four. We’re heading to Brazil (all between 65 and 70 years old) for about three months, with maybe a side trip to a neighboring country. One of us speaks fluent Portuguese, so that should work out. We’re meeting at one of our places for a few days in August to get to know each other. Chile and Bolivia will have to wait for the next trip. Wishing you a great trip—enjoy it! Chantal

Hi Chantal, Thanks for your reply—I kinda figured. Looks like it’ll be solo for me! Have a great trip, you four. Brigitte
